Low vibration motor? - Moto G9 Plus Questions & Answers

i've bought this phone yesterday, coming from a moto g7 plus. It feels like the vibration motor is too weak in comparasion. I don't even feel notifications when the phone is in my pocket. Is this normal?

Yeah its normal its not amazing. Seems a downgrade from other moto devices.

Vibration

Does anyone think the vibration feature is a little loose/rough? I am coming from an iPhone 5 so I am not sure what to expect. It is almost as if rattles but the case and buttons seem rock solid.
Mine is loud. Almost more of a rattle than a vibration.

Same, only thing that feels cheap...maybe the power and volume buttons too.

Me too. It's pretty annoying. I had a razr hd when it was released and it never made this noise. I was given a refurbished razr hd and sure enough, it's vibration (more like rattle) sounds just like the vibration the Moto X makes. Two more replacement razr hds and they both had the same weird rattle. I'm wondering if they changed the vibrate component in the razr hd and are using the same one in the Moto X.
Mine to. I've got haptic feedback turned off, and reduced the intensity for the keyboard. Only thing left is the vibration for the active notifications but there doesn't seem to be a setting for it. I'm going to be ordering a replacement for other reasons, hopefully the motor will be a little weaker on the new one.
The vibration is indeed pretty harsh and bad.

Not that I am happy but at least it is normal. Everything else seems nice about the phone so I am moving on now...

Vibration is one thing Samsung seems to get right with the linear vibration motors they use

I just want to be able to turn off vibrate on the active notifications, hate how it vibrates when pressing and sliding the icon.

I have both the Droid Mini and the X and strangely the Mini doesn't do the annoying vibrate stuff with active notifications. Hopefully they will get rid of it from the X too.

I've owned the iPhone 5, I think its vibration is a little rough.. It was bad on my RAZR M as well, I love my Galaxy Nexus' vibrate.
Maybe we should consider the Mini....?

Isn't a rough vibration better than a smooth one? Your body is more likely to detect harsh vibrations that startle you as opposed to smooth continuous ones that feel like a tickle. Previous phones I have had (N4, Gnex, SGS2), the vibrations are too soft to grab my attention, especially when in the jeans pocket. MotoX is probably the first one that doesn't seem weak.
I have no issues with feeling the GalNex vibrate, but I mean... I see your logic.

I've got to agree. On my S4, I miss almost every call due to the vibration being too soft. I remember one of the first thoughts I had when using the X was how cheap the vibration feels. After having it a few days, it's really grown on me though- it feels more substantial. This could be genius or pure accident, but to me it sounds like the "plastic on plastic" sound physical phone keyboards used to make.
On the flipside (literally?), when the phone is on a desk and it vibrates - its basically an 8 on the Richter scale...lol
Wonder if we can side load the mini`s apk and it will not have the vibrate then. Could anyone post it?

Definitely one of the first things I noticed on mine was the rattling. Very disappointed as its probably the only thing I don't like so far. Couldn't it be remedied by a kernel update or something that controls vibration strength?
So this rattling vibration is actually normal? I just got my Moto X and it's the first thing I noticed. I was about to call Sprint and exchange it but if this is normal, I guess there's no point.

I just purchased a black Moto X from at&t yesterday. Same exact vibration as described by multiple people in this thread.
Coming from a Samsung it is very disturbing, but I am sure I will get used to it. Planned on doing an exchange until I saw this thread. No other complaints about the phone other than this.
I like a smooth sounding / feeling vibration like the Samsung. This one just sounds rough, but is much more intense than Samsung.
Anybody else just get a newer one and notice this?
you guys have to remember that the vibration motor is the only moving part (well, besides the camera shutter) in the entire phone. it's literally a weighted piece of metal that rotates, to give the sensation of vibration. frankly i'm glad it can be felt at all, given the size and weight of the motor itself. older devices that had tons of room could vibrate off of your table and on to the floor (think pagers).
really, as long as it's audible and i can feel it in my pocket, i'm just happy it vibrates.

[Q] Moto X Dev vs. S4?

I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S4 on Mk2 build. That basically means it's a worthless piece of locked down crap. Sure I can use safestrap and stuff but in the end it just doesn't compare to having the ability to flash normally and have a unlocked phone. I'm thinking of buying a Moto X dev edition and selling my S4. Is there any reason I should abandon this idea? Is there anything you would recommend other than the Moto X for Verizon? Is there anything you have to say about the S4 or the Moto X? Thanks
The main reason I want to switch is A. touchwiz is terrible in my opinion, B. modded touchwiz is still bad, and C. I like that the Moto X is really close to stock android and even if I flash on the dev edition, it is covered by warranty.
No brained. X dev. Edition.

I recently made the switch from an S4 I got at launch... my opinions as follows:
-The S4 has a beautiful screen, hands down. However, it's dimmer than the X and I've found that the S4 had a blue tint to the screen with whites. My X doesn't have the yellowing, so it's pretty close to an actual white. The X's screen is awesome for only 720p, no doubt.
-Form factor... definitely have to go with the X. It got annoying all the time trying to use the S4 single-handed, you'd have to reach for the moon in order to pull down the notifications. The X with a Speck Candyshell case fits in my hand perfectly and can operate with one hand.
-Call quality is much better with the X, the S4 wasn't bad though.
-The X has a louder earpiece and rear speaker, sounds much cleaner and clearer than the S4's rear speaker, which was oddly placed to begin with.
-Speed... no comparison. The X absolutely runs circles around the S4 stock-for-stock. The S4 was a little faster with a ROM like Hyperdrive, but the janking and lags made it a pain especially when you're in a hurry. My debloated X has ZERO lag or hesitation. Opens apps instantly, connects to calls quickly, no delaying when waking the phone.
-The camera is a little better on the S4, I will admit. However, the S3's camera trumps both the S4 and X. Not to say the X has a bad camera, but don't expect super "beautiful instagram" quality or whatever. If you want to take pics, go buy a digital camera, that's what it's made for.
-Battery life is a toss up right now because I haven't had the X activated for a full week yet, so the battery is still "breaking in", if you will. However it's getting better day by day. The S4's battery was a little bigger, but the phone wasn't optimized for power-efficiency like the X. I would imagine once the battery gets settled in, I'll get better life than I did with the S4.
-The X has the on-screen nav keys, so it takes some time to get used to. I still subconsciously go to hit the physical home button to wake the phone, only to realize I don't have one anymore... lol. I had the same issue when I transitioned from the Droid X to the Thunderbolt, physical keys to soft capacitive keys.
Last but not least... the Dev X is open for modding how YOU want, unlike the S4. I too was stuck on the MK2 base and hated life for the last couple of months. I honestly don't think that the damage Samsung caused in the recent updates will be reversed, and if it does, everyone will have moved on to the latest and greatest anyhow. So, go get yourself a Dev X, it's worth it.

Alright. Also I understand the X is close to stock android, but there wouldn't happen to be any stable AOSP roms for jellybean? I don't really like kitkat that much

Kitkit in my opinion is better then jellybean but if you don't like it you can still revert back to 4.2.2.

Does Your Moto X Ever Get Hot?

I'm thinking about getting a Moto X. I usually get a top-tier phone, but this one has really caught my eye.
I want a high-end device, but the "best" phones are all rather large. When I started looking at all the different "mini" versions, it turns out most of those phones are about the same as the Moto X. Nobody is really packaging their best phone with a smaller display; all the minis are pretty much 1.7GHz dual core units with 720-line displays. Compared to most of those the Moto X really fits my hand, and I like a lot of the features.
One thing I'm curious about is the operating temperature. My last three phones have all gotten pretty hot from time to time, but I read in a review that the Moto X draws a bit less current, and as a result it also runs a good bit cooler than some faster phones. This phone does seem to get a lot of life for a 2200mah battery.
Has anybody noticed any heat from this phone, or that it's particularly cool compared to other phones you've had? FWIW, I'd be using the Verizon version with 32GB.
Thanks in advance.
It gets warm when in my truck with GPS on, charging, and listening to podcasts... but no where near as warm as my Nexus.

I must say the Moto X is the of the coolest higher end phone I've used. There is absolutely no issue with heat on mine, even with a few hours of video running.
Both Samsung and LG phones can quite hot for me. Naturally any phone will get hot with prolonged GPS use.
i mean it gets warm, but thats it. i wouldnt call it hot compared to my Gnex, which would literally be on the verge of burning my face off. only time my X gets warm is if im using it while its charging. other than that, no problems at all

I guess it all depends on what you mean by top tier. If by top tier you mean a phone that works great as a phone, feels good in your hand, has a nice screen for its size, no lag and stock android plus, with the plus being very useful extras like touchless controls, motorola assist and active display, then the Moto X is top-tier. If by top-tier you mean has the best specs on paper but has lag due to its ridiculous OEM skin, drops calls and can't hold a 4G LTE signal well in weak signal areas, then by all means get the top-tier GNote3. I had it and returned it and got 2 Moto X's instead.

What do you mean by faster? The CPU clock speed? Because I tested it side-by-side with the GNote3 and the Moto X beat the GNote3 in every data speed test I ran and opened apps and loaded web pages noticeably faster than the GNote3.
I don't think so. My note3 consistently pulls faster data TMob vs TMob on speed test.

I am on Verizon. The Moto X and the GNote3 and even my GNex all do well in strong signal areas. Where the signal is weak, the Moto X outperforms them all.

Hmmm... Probably. Didn't get to test x at work on day off. I switched to T-Mobile. My note has been pulling faster on TMob vs x on atnt. Note is still pulling down faster at apartment. At work, that will probably be true, x pulling down faster on a weaker signal. My refill runs out today on my note and might be awhile before I get to test again.

To me it seems that the front and back of my TMo Developer Edition is too hot. Just got an app to meaure the temp and its 39C without any serious load (facebook or just web browsing).
Anyone else has measurements to compare?
My dev edition gets hot with Maps navigation such that Maps just dies. If I charge it when using navigation, Maps dies quickly. Else it lasts for a while longer before dying. My note 3 and note 4 can go on and on with navigation even being charged at the same time.
That's nothing to worry about. If it actually overheats, it will shut down before damage is done. ?

Scrolling and input lag G6 Play

Just bought a G6 play for boost Mobile and am immediately noticing some input lag with scrolling, typing, accessing the status bar/lock screen. I wasn't expecting this at all. I've owned an E4 Plus, G5 plus and even an X4 and never had this issue. Seems software related. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Wait on a update for the most part the phone runs just as smooth as e4 plus

About the notch of Moto G7+

Hi,
I ask you: What you prefer, the notch of the Moto G7 Plus or the G7 Play?
Personally, I feel the G7+ is very ugly!
I got the plus version and I gotta say... At first it seems odd, a weird notch at the top, but you get used to it...

The G7 Plus is awesome! The notch actually looks nice in my eyes...
I really love my G7 Plus, it's fast, i got really, really good battery life, it has a big nice screen. I come from LG G6 and my moto g7 plus is better in every regards. Sure I would like a smaller notch but every other aspect of the phone is so damn nice so I dont really mind.
The G7 plus is one of the bests phones that I've had
Nacho Notch and notch doesn't exist.
Also I think that G7+ is one of the most complete phone right now.
Real DualSim (2x sim + 1x microSD)
NFC
Stereo
Jack
TurboPower
USB-C
Stock Android
Moto Actions (specially flash and photo...very like it)
Wish I had wireless charging and better cpu but for that price point is the most complete phone right now.
