[FIX INSIDE] "Certificate expired" error after replacing front camera - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I was sold a pixel with cracked front cam glass.
I replaced the module and the camera works fine. But I get 'certificate expired' trying to register for face unlock. I tried a different camera module, same error.
Does anyone know of a fix please?
FIX FOR ANYONE GOOGLING!!
Keep your old front camera module. Using a flat head screwdriver, twist just the camera itself from the camera array. The camera isn't what holds the module ID. If you then slide out the camera from your new module, and connect that to your old one, it'll think it was the old front camera. Can't believe it worked!

Have you tried hard resetting the phone?

Hi @mistyhands,
My selfie camera and face recognition has not been working for a while. I just replace the entire array of front camera and sensors. Selfie Cam works perfect but getting the expired cert error like yourself.
When you say take just the camera out of the array, do you mean including the metal box around it and the one ribbon cable? Then just add to the new array?
Thanks for your help in advance,
P

Yep! You'll probably have to pry it out with a flathead

Thanks! Have the phone apart again now. Do you need to heat it to get it out? Seems to be moulded into the array

Nice one! Surprised nobody else had done the same

Oh so you can't acctually change Face unlock sensors? I mean if one of the sensors breaks, and you change all the sensors(as they are all on one piece), is it going to work back again or not?

Oh yeah I know I already tear down my phone, my rear camera wasn't working.
My question is, if you replace the sensors that enable face unlock to work, is it going to work after the replacement or not?

I got the same issue, is anyone tried to replace only the new front camera into old camera module and received Faceid work as normal yet?

some way to repair new face id without previous face id working?

Still doesnt work , I pry out the middle sensor from replacement module assembly, which i suppose its the front camera sensor, combine with my stock sensor array, and camera still force closes whenever i switch to front camera.
I put the replacement back to the module assembly, as expected, front camera works but face unlock doesnt work.
Pic below shows the sensor im attempted to replace, am i replacing the wrong sensor?

The camera modul is not related to face id sensor modul, try replacing the only camera that works ok, just keep your old face id for original mainboard. work fine.

Front Camera Hotness

Okay, so I finally did it. This evening after work I took my phone (Att Tilt), some torx drivers, some tiny philips and sat down at my desk. With a beer in hand, my phone in pieces, and the front camera from a kaiser on the desk in front of me, I made awesome happen.
Now, the fact that I was three or four beers deep by the time I finished probably contributed to the hairline crack in my case near the new camera, but that's nothing some superglue won't fix. At any rate, my Att Tilt now has a front camera, and it was auto recognized by the camera software. Needless to say, this is awesome - the next step is to flash a rom that supports all the nifty things I can do with a front facing camera, and make the most of what I now have.
Here's where I get confused, though - all my poking about on the forum and elsewhere seemed to say that this wasn't possible - that the tilt /could not/ be modified to have a front camera. Was I misreading things that badly?
If it helps, I've got some very blurry pictures (my camera's a piece of junk), and might take some more if people want.
Love to hear back.
Nice work Harrson...BTW, a few questions...
Do you have to dismantle the whole phone or can you do it just by removing the torx screws behind the sliding screen?
And is the front camera of the tilt modular? cause i hawked a camera off an old treo 650 and I know it's angled diferrently from the tilt as to the wire but do you just pop it on the front camera module? thanks

I was not able to find a method of removing the front cover by itself, and had to go through the entire disassembly (just about) as detailed at Mike Channon's website, removing all those damned tiny screws and bending distressingly thin pieces of plastic to get to the front case.
The front camera is modular, yes - it's a tiny little thing comprised of a small camera(about the size of a pea or so) mounted on a flat flexible cable kind of thing, which terminates in one of those miniature plugs that you find elsewhere inside the phone. The socket lives under the front cover, right next to the power/wifi/bluetooth LEDs near the earpiece.
On my Tilt, the cavity that was intended to hold the camera had been filled by a cube of black foam rubber that had been glued to the board (which you can kind of see in my crappy picture). I removed that, plugged in the camera, and reassembled.
(I apologize for the atrocious pictures - as I said, the camera's a piece of junk)

As to using the camera from another HTC phone, I called HTC about using the one from the TYTN 1 (which I'd bought off of ebay without knowing any better), and I was told that the part numbers were different. Now, I have no idea whether or not the parts are technically compatible (but geometrically different), or if they're just no good for each other (like alcohol and me).
Sweet!
That's pretty sweet! What are you using the front camera for?

Um... Not much, actually. Not yet, anyway.
See, the next step in my plan was to flash my rom to something with a 3g dialer and something a damn sight quicker than the stock rom - I've been eyeing the latest stable Phoenix release for a while now, but I admit that I've been hesitant for fear of bricking my phone.
Really, I've just been showing it off, and hoping that someone who sees it will ask "Oh, cool! Are you using it with application X?" and inadvertently give me a good idea, and then I can say "Application X? That's old news - I haven't used application X in, like, months!" And then I'll go download application X immediately.
In truth, I haven't been able to find all that much in the way of video chat for Windows Mobile, whether over wifi or 3g.
Anyone heard of anything good?

Htc hd2 front camera

Did anyone ever think about installing/making this possible? Like with a spare Evo front camera or something? Just a thought. I'm not even sure if it's possible. But if it was I would be interested.
LOL: it would be impossible since no hardware support for front cam, the sensor on top left is a photo sensor which is used for Brightness adjustment and proximity measurement
I have 2 phone's with front cam and i think i have used them twice.
When do you need a front cam ?
Do you video call with your girlfriend.
No. i do not use it, and i do not miss it on the HTC HD2
I know about the proximity sensor and stuff. And I do video chat. And couldn't someone make software to run it. It would be interesting. Maybe put it on the right side...
No need for the hostility either. Just a thought.
maybe someone will mod a USB laptop camera and gorilla glue it to the front?

lol
I'm gonna install a Core i7 into mine - it's time for the upgradings
(upgrade spelled wrong intentionally)
I think it's impossible. Use mirror.
i do not miss a front camera at all
now that skype supports video call. Front camera on skype would be a dream for me on hd2
it would be nice, but most likely impossible
So where are you going to solder that camera to if you manage to drill the plastic part of the center frame? I don't see any room on the motherboard...
in fact there has a most simple (and cheapest ) way to get a "front cam function" with your HD2, all you need to do is to find a small vanity mirror like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or this:
then open it in 90° angle and put this mirror behind of your hd2, in front of camera. now you can launch your camera app and adjust the mirror to the best position to show your face in app.
Done!
it's so easy! isn't it? the only bug is your face is inverse in app (if you are graduated from school you should know why), but who care! video talk is just for fun for most people! so you want it, you get it!
PS: you still need use a app which support not just front cam but also main cam, to do this. it's the only limitation my dud.

ok. someone has made a more "beautiful" mirror.

I think it will cost a little more than my "cheapest" way, but it's still a nice choice. people always like getting more choices, so here you are.

The whole idea is for sale for manufacturing. If this happens I'm gonna get my hands on one of these.
Very good invention. But i rather buy something it had built in, no fall out and all way there when i need it.

So you removed everything what can obstruct the camera. Right? ... the lens are perfectly clean, no screen protector or something like that and you try again to do some pictures and they still bad?

the original back protector is removed but i think there is one thin layer which is attached originally by Sony to protect surface of back side of it and it is hardly removable
the place of the lens is cut in circle ,
what you think?
i will make more picture and inform you

On mine there is not any thin layer on the lens, just a round silver aluminum frame and glass, you should easily recognize a glass from any kind of plastic protector and probably there is not any, it can't be.
Anyway try testing, because the camera can't have any plastic protector on it to working properly.
If you do not find any solution go to the store and ask for a replacement via warranty.
EDIT: Ok, I finded what you said, is kind of shatter resistant screen protector but is not on the lens because they cut it out properely, so if there is not anything which obstruct the camera you definitely should go via warranty for a replacement.

that should be it, don't remove the last layer as it's not supposed to block the camera.
if the problem is still there mybe one of your camera lens are defective :/

Made one with illustration board. I tried using the magnifying glass lens I have laying around (I conveniently have 2) but it doesn't get the job done. Everything looks blurred until I move the phone 4 inch farther... so that's why it is required to have lens with 40-45mm focal length (regardless of diameter, I think)
I'll be making another one out of vinyl tiles while I'm looking for the proper lenses here in my area.

depends on the app. Do a search for Google Cardboard. Its still a very young market, so apps are limited. I have one app that's for watching videos, but the rest are pretty much demos of 3d experiences (google earth, roller coaster, street view). The apps split the screen into two and the headset allows each eye to get one view
But the first time people use it..... A long ....woooooowwwwww....

Hi, the magnetometer is near IR blaster, so I have to lock my phone in the glass as high as possible to make the magnet stick work
Thank you, it work, but very shaky. May be we can change magnet to more powerful (from hard drive, e.g.)? Or can use voice, or headeset button?
In my case, I use 2 ferrite magnets and hold the phone like I do above. I think you can modify the glass with a lower magnet slider
I tried a bigger neodymium magnet (20mm diameter, 5mm thick) and it didn't work.
Voice or headset button: depends on your apps

Front camera off centerd. Should I care?

Hello.
So recently got my replacement of note 5 due to screen issue.

My S3 had a similar problem, but for the back camera. They fixed it in half hour. That's why I suggested taking it repair center.
Oh ya! Rear is actually easier to fix.. For front they will need to replace the screen or. The whole unit. Thats why debaiting.

Would love to know other people thoughts as well.
my note 5 looks the same. it seems like the lens they are using causes it to look like off centered. Don't worry about it. Better that then them trying to dissemble the whole phone for one camera that has no defect.

OCD stinks! Thanks for making me check mine. It is slightly off. Nothing to worry about. My Lumia 1520 rear camera was way off and I never had an issue. It should be fine as long as there is no vignette. ?

Have you seen my front camera pic i attached ? Do you think its way off center? Should i be worried? I know it dosent harm anything just my damm ocd.
It probably won't make difference unless your phone is pointing at an extreme angle to the sun to cause adverse vignette shading. I liken it to that micro scratch on the screen you never noticed until that one day when the sun hit it just right. Now you can't take your eyes off it...LOL!
Well, if it's a $50 phone I wouldn't care but for me it's a $1000+ phone so yeah they can fix/replace it until I get what I paid for....a premium phone.
