I have the phone for a week now and more and more it's shut down when I want to switch it on. I then have to press the power button a bit longer and it will then restart normally.
And there is something else that I think is strange (I just found out while testing because of the other issue). When I press the power button multiple times then sometimes it doesn't switch on again. After a wait of a few seconds and another press it switches on again.
Anyone else has these issues? Can I track why it switches off? Is there a log to see what happend before?
Only when it's cold
I noticed that the random shutdowns are not so random. It only happens when the phone is cold. I can put it 3-4 minutes outside (a bit below 0 degrees celsius) and it switches off every time.
When it's warm - it never happens.
Anyone else have this problem? what's the temperature range which it should work in? I never had that with another phone and it's really not that cold.
Not me, but it's not that cold here.
But it is coldest time since i have z3c and i noticed that in camera when switching from superior auto to manual, or anything it lags a bit when it's cold.
I couldn't find operating range for our battery but it looks like that most Li-Po batteries suffer when temps go below the 0C
I'm going to assume that's your case.
Standby phone = no heat being generated = available current dropping = phone shutting down

thr s always process in background so the phone temp will be always above 0 C
unless the environment temp be too below 0C (like -20C)
contact service center and tell the story and please inform us here what s their response
:good:
Thanks for the inputs. I know that there is a limit on lower temperature for the batteries. But as I easily was able to restart the phone and it showed no strange value for the battery-power, I don't think it can be only this. Also - we had 5 other phones with us and they all worked in the same environment. I'll keep you posted what the service center answers...
I have been in low-temperature environments(-18,+4,0 C) I did not stay too long, but phone survived without any hassle
I am having a very similar issue. Since day 1, my phone randomly reboots especially during the night every 20 minutes or so, and i usually find it switched off in the morning when i wake up. I even had to go work late the first morning because I use the alarm of the phone to wake up and since the phone was switched off, the alarm didn't work.
Last week i went to ski. Up in the mountain, the phone was almost completely useless ( Tempererature was just below 0 C ). It was constantly rebooting in my pocket and shutting down every 5 minutes. Whenever i wanted to use it, the screen opened and as i unlocked the phone it rebooted, however if i continue to use it afterwards ( opened mobile data and gps, talking, etc. ), it did not reboot. So i thought that it might be due to battery getting too cold. Also, i realized the rebooting happens more frequently when i put the phone in a very low power usage state like Ultra Stamina or flight mode. ( I also put the phone in flight mode during the night when i go to sleep )
I have contacted Xperia Care. They assumed this might be a software malfunction and suggested resetting my phone using PC Companion. I played along and reset my phone but it didn't fix anything. I will call them again tomorrow. I am suspecting the battery itself is faulty or the background task that is supposed to heat up the battery is not working properly.
Update: : Appaerently the phone was in fact faulty. They changed it with a new one which is working pretty fine
I'm having tons of issues. The camera is super laggy. The battery is draining extremely quickly. The phone also requires me to hit the power button 2 or 3 times to wake from sleep.
Right now id like to tackle the battery issue since its making the phone unusable if I take it outside for more than 3 hours. Last night I left the phone with its screen off all night. The battery went from 85 to 25 in 7 hours. Not sure what's going on. I looked at cpu spy and the phone is not going to deep sleep at all. Anyone know what I can do to trouble shoot this? I got the phone from eBay. Its running nougat. The first thing I did was flash it with stock Rom. Factory reset has been done also wipe cache. Thanks.
Here's a screen shot of cpu spy.
I don't particularly have an answer either but for what its worth I've been having a similar issue with my s6 edge although the battery wasn't the greatest even before 7.0 I also feel like the upgrade did make it a little worse too. I always have power saver on and i still have to charge it mid day (sometimes twice) if I'm running around anywhere, it'll go down about 10% even just during my 15-20 minute drive to work in the morning
My Galaxy Tab S2 is about 4 years old and I use it daily for email checks in the morning and watching reruns of House MD in the evening. System update is set to manual, but I always accept.
Problem: Screen takes significant length of time to repopulate icons after video playback or other tasks. I can actually see each icon appear on the home screen in a sort of ripple effect. This problem became noticeable about two weeks ago. Previously screen refresh was virtually instantaneous. Turning the tablet off for 10 minutes and restarting produced no improvement. There is about 50% available storage on device and card. Any ideas?
Is battery capacity low compared to when it was new? Might want to replace it. I suspect that cpu gets throttled when battery ages.
Sent from my VOG-L29 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the response Lukeb.
No, the battery seems about the same as when new. That is to say I had to charge it once per day when new and that is still the case.
I have the same issue with every Android device I ever owned especially Samsung devices. I think the problem is the "bad" flash memory which wars out over time and becomes slower. Or some secret algorithm in the ROM which slows down your device so you want to buy a new one. I sent my S2 for repair 3 months ago for battery replacement, because it randomly crashes when doing some updates over the Google store when the battery is under 20%. I got it back and it still crashes and is slow. Even with factory reset.
Just got the S21 Ultra (from note 8). Stumbled upon Bixby Routines. It's great.
Always tried using Tasker but never used it much because it wasn't as easy as using Bixby Routines. Tried using similar apps as well but they never seemed to work well.
So far I've got auto-rotate for when I use video watching apps such as YouTube. Power Saving mode while I'm asleep.
Care to share some ideas?
Love Tasker but now giving a chance for Bixby Routines. So far I have set driving profile to start playing YouTube music, set audio to 100%, turn Dolby on, keep phone unlocked. Then Show AOD when charging, auto rotate on when YouTube is launched. Would like them to go crazy like tasker with some Good lock module but doubt it Had few htlm get task so I might go back to Tasker, but imo it should drain more battery compared to Bixby Routines
When i go to work, since i don't touch my phone that often, it auto changes resolution to fullHD, and turns on AOD + turns off bluetooth.
During the night turns on energy saving and airplane mode
Wireless charging between 10p - 7a will NOT fast charge so the charger fans aren't buzzing on my nightstand next to my head.
I hated everything Bixby but I see that I now have to use routines.
Good topic. How to see more useful usages posted.
I use Routines with my Android Car Stereo to Automatically start the Hotspot when it connects to my Cars bluetooth. It also turns up the volume on the phone and reads aloud text messages.
Definitely looking forward to a couple new ideas myself.
AOD & Sync on when charging, off when not charging (apps like whatsapp and outlook have their own sync which isn't affected by this)
Button on my homepage for 5G/4G
Power saving to turn on at 20% (I only turn this on if I plan to go out for the day)
Is there a way to perform an action on switching out of one app to another e.g. To close the app you switch from e.g. Chrome, so that it doesn't chew up battery in the background? Or when closing an app to put it to deep sleep?
I've set it to disable 120 Hz in apps like YouTube and tiktok and games where I wouldn't notice it anyway.
Also set network mode to 3G and disable data when connected to WiFi.

So I think the WiFi one is sort of redundant as your mobile data swtiches off if you're on WiFi with WiFi calling.
The YouTube one is actually a great spot - at low brightness the screen stays in high refresh mode, so forcing it to switch to 60 is useful!
I created a button to force to 2G only in areas where reception is poor and i dont require mobile data (2g gives better reception).
But does anyone know where this button can be used other than as a widget on homescreen?
Set location services on when opening google maps
Play playlist from spotify when bluetooth connect to my car
Put on do not disturb when opening camera application
I love bixby routines, the only thing i keep after debloating a Samsung phone
Anandtech has a write-up on the S21U display. It appears it has the same odd behavior of forcing 120hz full time during low ambient lighting, like the Note 20. The screen therefore consumes more power in dark rooms than in a bright setting. I have an (arguably bad) habit of reading my phone in bed before I fall asleep, and before I get up. So I've set a routine to switch in/out of adaptive mode during my normal bed times, so much of my usage in darkness is in 60hz mode to save battery.

It does this because 60hz changes the tint at low brightness. The oneplus 8pro was bad for this, you could see the display flicker and change tint when the refresh rate changed at low brightness , it was horrible.

I can't comment from personal experience, but from the Anandtech article:
it’s still not exactly clear at to the technical reason why Samsung is employing this limitation in the first place, as I’m not seeing any difference at all in the screen quality when tricking the phone’s ambient brightness sensor and it switching between VRR/LFD on and off.

Regardless, switching to 60hz is a solution if you want to prioritize battery life in those conditions.

Hmmm, I set a routine @ 10PM to switch to 60hz mode, that was supposed to end at 7AM with the actions reversed. It didn't switch to 60hz mode @ 10PM, so I manually switched it, and it didn't revert @ 7AM. I'll try two distinct routines.
EDIT: I set up a distinct routine to set to 60hz AFTER the existing "time period" routine, and the existing time period routine took effect properly this time, so the redundant distinct routine wasn't needed. Don't know why it didn't work the first night.
Brightness turned down and Power Saving mode turned on during my sleeping hours.
I always leave my phone unplugged while sleeping (charge fully before sleep).
I guess if I were to charge while sleeping, I'd plug into a smart plug, then have the plug turn off after the charge reached 100.

Yeah, a couple times my YouTube rotate didn't turn on. But on my wife's note 10 plus, so far has been flawless.
Just bumping this up since Routines is very useful. Been using this since my last phone and it made life a bit easier.
My settings are:
1. IF connected to home wifi, THEN keep phone unlocked.
2. IF charging, THEN sync is on.
3. IF connected to car bluetooth, THEN media volume is set to max and play favorite playlist on spotify.
4. IF time period (12AM-6AM), THEN power saving mode on, DND on, bluetooth off, NFC off.
5. IF camera app opened, THEN DND on.

Oh, gave me a great idea of keeping phone unlocked! thanks. I'll have to set one to keep phone unlocked when hooked up to android auto or the car BT.
I mess with my kids with the Low Battery Announcement (Phone needs charging, Bruh. No Cap). Lol
If it isn't connected to my Home WiFi between the hours of 10PM and 8AM, it alerts me because this typically means that the power has gone out.
Hi everyone,
I got my new S20 FE just a few days ago, and I'm still getting used to it, but I wonder if having to charge the battery every day on average is "normal" or not.
When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery is never flat. Rather, it's hovering at around 30%, and I usually stop charging when it reaches 85 to 90%. I use the 15W (?) charger that was in the box, so no ultra-quick charge for this one.
I tried to plug it into a Xiaomi/Poco 33W charger for a few minutes, just to see if it would speed things up, but the remaining charging time was the same as with the regular charger so I reverted to it, just to be on the safe side.
Still, I wonder if it's normal to have to recharge the phone every day, when my Poco X3 Pro needed to be charged every two days on average. Granted, the Poco has a bigger battery, but it has an LCD screen instead of an AMOLED.
I spend a lot of time on Twitter, especially in the evening, mostly, but that's it. No gaming of any kind.
What say you?

Hi,
I've turned Auto brightness off. I'll tell you if it changes anything in terms of battery life. I've also set AOD to fixed brightness instead of auto.
Thanks for the tip!
No problem, thank you for the question!
I think that debloating is not a bad idea, also try to go to all individual apps settings and set the battery to Restricted, except mail and messaging apps, so they won't drain the battery when you're not using them. Lowering the screen refresh rate also helps a bit, as well as restricting mobile data to 4G only, if you don't need 5G. Also, you can limit processor speed, turn Adaptive battery on and Enhanced processing off.
Hi again!
I've changed network settings to 4G and below since my SIM doesn't give me access to 5G yet, but battery life was still iffy. I then changed the network settings to something called "GLOBAL", and it's a bit better, though I don't know what that setting does exactly.
It also depends on how much your using your phone, what apps your running (games vs non-games, etc).
For example, I've played some games, but mainly have been on the internet via apps like social media, email, web browser.
I'm currently at 55% And it's been over 24 hours since I last fully charged it. The Battery graph says based on how I've been using the phone that I still have about 1d 3h left.
I do usually charge once a day, but it's definitely more than 24 hours after the last charge. I went to bed last night with over 62% left after having charged it probably 12 hours prior. When I woke up this morning, it was done to 59% and since then, is now at 55%.
So I've been pretty pleased with the battery life for me. Whether that's good or bad, I have no idea but it's definitely better than my last phone.
I don't do games on my phone (in fact, I don't do games at all, period), but I think the AOD being set on automatic lighting could have something to do with my relatively poor battery life. I'll try to set it to a fixed brightness and see if it changes things, though the brightness scale is pretty rudimentary. Maybe the light sensor is turned off when automatic brightness is off.
I usually spend more time on Twitter when I'm on the phone, so this could explain that.
Another possible factor is my application launcher: I use Microsoft Launcher, which I adore, but every time I wake up the screen, it does a position fix to update the weather widget. That could also explain why my battery drains faster than I expected.
I've just set AOD to fixed brightness. I'll tell you if it helps or not. Thanks for your input anyway!

I used to use Microsoft Launcher, but then switched to Nova launcher. However, since getting this phone, I've moved to OneUI and I'm loving it. I haven't really changed anything. AOD is set to whatever it was out of the box and I've been on Twitter and the web since I last posted and I'm currently at 53%.
I think I have seen MS Launcher be a battery hog if I remember. Nova isn't as bad, but OneUI seems to work great.
Also, the number and type of widgets you have installed could also cause battery drain. For me, I only have one screen. I use smart widgets to "stack" widgets I need which are calendar, weather (from WeatherBug), Brave Search, PowerAmp (for music) and then the phone maintenance widget. So far, battery life is pretty good like I've said.
You can also go into Settings->Battery and Device Care and maybe check in there to see what might be eating up your battery the most.
I like the look and feel of MS Launcher, compared to others (I believe I've tried them all over the years...), even if I have to admit Nova is a close second. MS Launcher is a possible culprit, obviously. I may switch back to One UI to check how things are going, I don't know.
I've just topped-off the battery, and just idling, the phone is supposed to last over 2 days until the next charge, but I know it won't last that long.
So I got my phone used (only 2 months, still has back poly attached) and it came with august 1 update and the battery drain on it is abysmal. I can see the battery go down while I'm browsing insta or whatever, not even gaming. You know what instantly fixed it? Downclocking my gpu and cpu using FKM. But this is not a pretty solution as it requires root and I would like to experience stock without root for a bit.
Which makes me think the system isn't properly downclocking the soc when idle leading to increased drain. I would like to know if anyone has a better fix than just disabling all the options on your phone.

Well, considering it's used (was it refurbished or did you purchase it off eBay or some other market)? That might be why it was being sold. You said 2 months. Does that mean it was only used for 2 months or you've had it for 2 months? If the phone itself is only 2 months old, who knows how the previous owner used the phone.
Did you do a factory reset when you got it to ensure it was back to stock settings? If so, then it might be your battery is bad and could be the reason it was sold/returned by the previous owner. If you haven't factory reset it, that is possibly the only other option that I can think of if you've already rooted and downclocked it.
Mine was new when I got it a few weeks ago and the battery lasts 1.5 days for me, even with the refresh rate set to 120 Hz. And that's with moderate use (playing games a bit, browsing the web, texting, phone calls).
You might want to try setting your screen refresh to 60 Hz to see if that helps as well if you haven't done that yet.
Go to Settings->Display->Motion Smoothness and select "Standard" to set it to 60 Hz refresh. That will save some battery as well.
See if that helps as well. If not, and as I stated, if you haven't done a factory reset, that might be your only other option unless someone else has something I haven't thought of.

Yeah I got it from a store second hand. Came with the back poly still attached and no damages on the body. A killer deal. As for the battery issue, I had flashed wrong region stock rom. After learning what csc meant and figuring out I was on the wrong region I flashed the right rom and now my battery life is top notch. On a side note it has only 54 charge cycles after I got it.

Glad you were able to figure it out. Even though the phone is reaching 2 years since it's release, I've been very happy with it. My S7 finally died over a week ago after 5+ years of dependable service.

This is actually the second device I bought this year. At first I upgraded my Redmi Note 5 Pro which gave me 4 years of great service. Could have reached 5 but then I would not be able to exchange it so I did and got a Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g. Considering how much I paid for it I was more or less satisfied except the camera. Then I bought this after months of careful consideration and also because it was a killer deal. I got a brand new device for half the price. Flagship specs at 33k bdt. You can't get a better deal.
