I have an old 7'' Kindle Fire HD (serial D025, FireOS 7.5.1) I haven't used in ages, I charged it and I found I had already rooted it and have TWRP 2.8.3.0 on it. I wanted to try and use it with a Chromecast, so I searched for an android ROM, and found CyanogenMod 13 (cm-13.0-20160214-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip + open_gapps-arm-6.0-mini-20151206.zip), I flashed it and it worked pretty well, much better than the original OS.
I installed Google Home (I think it asked me to install Google Services too which I did), the app runs fine, but when I click "Cast my screen", the TV turns black, I can control the volume from the tablet for a few seconds, and then it disconnects with the error "Casting screen to TV has ended" and the TV shows a chromecast error saying something like "Connection lost". I also tried "Settings > Device > Display & lights > Cast" with the same results.
Any workaround or other ROMs I could try to get screen casting working?
I tried crDroidAndroid-7.1.2-20181021-tate-v3.8.9.zip and screen casting works but pretty laggy, not usable for videos, the entire OS is quite sluggish compared to CM.
Any other ROMs I could try?

So just a quick review of the NETGEAR Push2TV Wireless Display Adapter PTV3000 I just bought. Got it for a bit under $60 USD from Amazon. Did the firmware update at work before coming home -- didn't even have a TV to connect it to there! You do the update from a PC over Wifi and web interface. Now, I first tried to update the firmware from a Mac laptop I had lying around but couldn't. I could bring up the update page, but when I browsed for a file, I couldn't pick it! Tried both Safari and Chrome... Either way, just used a Windows laptop and IE 9 and the update worked fine.
Anyway, at home plugged it into my TV, picked up my Note 10.1 tablet and it works great. With the latest firmware on the Netgear, connection speed is pretty quick -- a few seconds. Video from my Note 10.1 was slightly letter boxed due to the 1280x800 resolution of the tablet ... but when you played video it would go full screen. When playing video, any on screen graphics do no show up on the TV at all. Also, on the Note 10.1 when playing video through it, you do not see video on the tablet anymore. Just black where it should be. This is fine (IMHO) ....
When using the UI of the tablet, the speed on the tablet felt unaffected (butter smooth in other words) but on the TV it was maybe running at 30fps. You could see some flight artifacting but I was sitting very close to my 52" LCD.... Text was totally readable and it looked just as good as Airplay does on the Mac.
NOW, I cannot test with my phone. Why? Well, I didn't know this, but when I tried to connect, it would connect, but after about 10 seconds disconnect. On my TV it would say HDCP Connection Error (or something along those lines.) After a little reading, turned out because my phone is rooted and has a flash count of 1 and System Status: Modified, you cannot use AllShare Cast! That is crap if you ask me, but it's how Samsung set it up.
I tried flashing stock recovery and then using Triangle Away, but the phone still says "Modified" and that sets the count back to 1. Pretty lame ... I am on a stock rom/kernel and now recovery, but something is flipping the status. I'm sure if I flashed back to 100% stock it would work fine, just like it does on my bone stock tablet .....
Honestly, this is a real bummer to me as I was excited at how well it worked with the tablet and for travelling, this tiny little box would be great for using in hotel rooms.
Oh I didn't mention, the size of it is very small -- like a deck of cards, and very light. Also it has a Mini_USB input (not Micro) and while the power adapter is 5v/1amp, it says when you turn it on you can easily power it from the USB port on a TV. Very handy.
So to sum it up:
Stock phone with unmodified system status? Get it. Cheaper than Samsung AllCast dongle and more functional because it supports Miracast (Sony Xperia, Nexus 4, some LG phones) and also Intel WiDi so basically all the current crop of Windows 7 and 8 laptops running with 3rd gen intel processors.
Modified phone like me? Better stick to the MHL HDMI adapter and you will have to get up to walk to your phone to switch the video or buy a long HDMI cable.
Fire away if you have any questions.
Edit: I made a quick Youtube video showing this thing in use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnqhZdjm16s
I've tried everything I can possibly think of and I still can't get this to work. Here's my problem:
I have a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx phone, a Nexus 7 Tablet, and a Asus Transformer TF101 Tablet. I have my chromecast set up and displayed on my TV. I can cast with 0 problems from my Nexus 7 and my TF101. On the phone, I am able to cast from the Netflix app and the YouTube app however I am not able to cast from the Google Play Music or Google Play Movies app. I can cast from these apps on the tablets, but not the phone. On the phone, there is no cast button in the upper right corner.
Here's the troubleshooting I have done so far:
Ensured the Play Music and Movies apps were up to date.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the updates to these apps
Disconnected and reconnected to WiFi network
Disconnected Mobile Data leaving WiFi as only available connection
Reset Phone to factory defaults, reconnected to wifi, updated apps
The TV is on the input for the Chromecast, and like I said I can cast from the tablets and other apps on the phone, just not the Play Music and Play movies apps.
Anyone have any more ideas???

ok so initially I thought there was no way this could be true since it works fine on my 1st gen nexus 7 (4.3) 2nd gen nexus 7 (4.3) galaxy nexus (4.3) and my girlfriends galaxy s3 (4.1.2?) as well as her galaxy note 8.0 (4.2.1?) but I just tried with my moms droid4 and youtube, google movies and music all dont work by not showing the cast icon. Note she is on 4.1.2 and not rooted. I just tested with my 4.2.2 rooted first gen galaxy tab 10.1 which worked fine. I just booted up my OG droid rooted on 2.3.7 cm7 and it DOES have chromecast icon to choose a tv. My thunderbolt on 4.0.3 rooted does also have the chromecast icon to choose a tv. I would check with the droid 2 I have laying around but its dead and I am too lazy to fix it lol.
So i assume there must be something on the newer motoblur crap or something causing a problem for newer moto devices
I'm having the same problem with my wife's Droid Razr (original). Youtube and Netflix work fine, but Play Music and Movies and TV don't show the casting button. I just sent an e-mail to the support folks, so we'll see if they come up with anything.
I have a SGS3 and a TF101 that work fine (also have a GNexus, but haven't tried it, but I'm willing to be it will work). One thing I did try was to set up the ChromeCast from my wife's phone, but it didn't work. It can see the stick, but when trying to connect to it to verify the code, it fails every time. After I set the stick up from another device, the stick shows up in the chrome cast app on my wife's phone, but says "Ready for Setup", and on my phone it says Ready to Cast.
Looks like it is a problem with the Razr phones. Hopefully they can find a fix. One of the major reasons for buying this was so my wife could play her music collection through our sound system. At least the tablet works, so she can use that for now. If they don't fix this, I'm considering rooting my wife's phone just so it works.
I've had the device about a week now and we have been streaming a lot of content to it without any issues. But I had a strange issue with my Chromecast yesterday and I wanted to make note of it here. This isn't so much as a request for help, but I would like people to post if they are having similar issues so we can see how often it occurs and see if there are any similarities which may help pinpoint the bug.
After watching a Netflix show, I tried casting another show but could not. The TV screen switched to the red "Netflix" screen and it seem to try and buffer the show, but it never started playing. After a while (perhaps a minute), the tablet from which I selected the show to cast came up with a "Could not Connect" error. I tried selecting the show again, and could not get it to connect. I ended up unplugging the device and even then it would not connect. I think I was finally able to fix the problem by selecting another show which did start to play and then selecting the show that I really wanted to watch. However, I was trying lots of things, so it could be something else that actually fixed it. For example, I don't remember if I de-selected the chromecast and then re-select it. I've read that fixed similar issues that other people have had with the Youtibe app.
Here are some more details:
- chromecast is plugged into the TV via the short HDMI extension cord.
- it is powered via the USB power cable plugged into the USB transformer and 110v power (ie not powered via a USB port on the TV)
- the TV does not have HMDI control-ability
- the TV is a LG model 46D64U
- between the two shows when I had the problem, the Chromecast went to a black screen for a second or two and I thought I heard an audible click. In fact I thought the TV turned itself off because the click I think I heard is the same click I hear when the TV turns on or off. However the screen did come back on its own pretty quickly.
I just wanted to see how common this issue may be. So if you have had problems with your Chromecast timing out when trying to stream content, please post as many details about the situation as possible.
Thanks!
Brian
I am having the same issue. netflix can't send the request to chromecast through my tablet. it started a week ago and I haven't had it working since. I have tried clearing cache, uninstalling and re-nstalling. I have had to use my S3 to do it.

1. Change the date and time settings on your device to Automatic.
2. Clear the Netflix application data
Navigate to Settings.
Under Device, choose Application Manager or Apps section.
Can't find your Application Manager? Refer to your owner's manual or contact your phone manufacturer for further assistance.
Under Downloaded, choose Netflix.
Choose Clear data, then OK.
Re-enter the Netflix application and try playing again.
Chromecast Audio with Pandora Sleep Timer

i have tried several methods to get whole screen mirroring working with both miracast receiver and with a chromecast ,all of it fails
so is there any way make miracast or whole screen casting work ?
i tried it with chromecast app but it connects and then disconnects in 2 seconds
Chromecast works for me on rooted stock rom by using the google home app.
It failed on cm12 as well as on the nexus rom. I tried the "share display" function in cm12 as well as the google home app. They both see the chromecast, but when I tryed to connect, it disn't work.
Anyone knows what components are relevant to
make the screenmirror function work?
At least the cast function in the youtube App worked on all roms i tryed.
I have two Chromecasts -- one first generation and one second generation. I also have an old Firestick. My wife's Galaxy S 9 works fine with all three devices. My phone worked fine with all three until a couple of weeks ago. Now, my phone can only cast to the Firestick (and obviously only from supported apps like YouTube and Netflix). If I open the Google Home app on my phone, both Chromecasts appear in their appropriate rooms, but that's about where my control ends.
In Home, I can tap and connect to the second generation device to control the volume and I can also tap the "Watch live TV" button below the icon and it will start casting some weird network with old game shows. I can do absolutely nothing else with that Chromecast including screen mirroring, casting from any app, or even viewing or controlling playback of media cast from a different phone. I can tap to connect to the first generation device, but it says "Not available" and that's the end of that. There is no "Watch live TV" button below it.
Again, all of these devices work fine with my wife's phone. I have tried all the usual culprits from unplugging every relevant device and waiting a few minutes, resetting the Chromecast, clearing Home app data, uninstalling and reinstalling apps, verifying all devices are on the same network, making sure Home and Google Play Services have full permissions, the phone isn't in power save mode, sensors are enabled, etc... Google Home has no trouble managing other connected devices in my home including light bulbs and speakers. I can reset the Chromecasts and actually set them up with my phone from the Home app, but as soon as they connect to Home, my phone can no longer control them.
Anyone ever had a similar experience? Can you think of any obscure settings that might be causing me issues? I already spent an hour or more with Google's Chromecast support and I'm about to see if I can find a good Samsung support channel.
