Question Google Locked Galaxy Tab A8 - Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2021)

Hello everyone,
A few days ago I was given a sm-x200 at a local tech shop that is google locked. A factory reset was done, but sadly the account is still there and nobody has the original info. I'm very unfamiliar with tablets so I don't know to remove the account. Is there a way to remove this account? I'd hate to throw this tablet away since it's in good condition.

That is an anti-theft lock and the only way to unlock it is to contact Samsung tech support and show "proof of purchase". Back in the Android 6 and 7 days, there were ways to circumvent it, but Google has since made it next to impossible to get around.

That really sucks! I guess there is nothing I can do since I didn't buy this. Thank you for replying.

One more thing. Do those programs like Tenorshare 4uKey actually work?

I might take the risk since it was a completely free tablet. I'll post if it works once I do it.

Nexus 5 Stolen After Delivery

Got 2 phones, 1 for me and one for my Girlfriend.
They arrived Friday.
Hers was stolen today from a local college.
I called T-MO and had them blacklist The IMEI
Is there any recourse I can take through Google?
I called them but it seemed they were only familiar with UPS as the theif.
I had text'd the phone telling the person I would pay a cash reward for the return or they could turn it in to Lost and found. But they turned the phone off half hour later.
Keep your eyes out for any too good to be true deals.
Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.
************UPDATE*************
Amex didn't cover anything.
T-mobile claims They cant block it because it was purchased through Google.
Google says they cant do anything after the phone was "Activated" although All we did was put in a sim and turn it on.
So basically a big F You from google
I WILL NEVER BUY A GOOGLE PRODUCT EVER AGAIN!
Basically if you bought a phone from google as soon as you open the box Anyone can steal it free and clear.
There is No recourse possible. You cant block the IMEI. Nexus Devices are Gold Mines for theifs. Steal it Factory reset it and you got yourself a free device.
I AM SHOCKED that Google is So Stupid.
*****************
Update.
I dont blame anyone for the phone being stolen. BUT ALL NEXUS OWNERS BEWARE!!!!
If your phone is stolen Google doesnt give a ****. and neither does your carrier.
Its gone and it wont be turned into lost and found because its a perfectly functioning free device for anyone to find or steal with NO RECOURSE. that can be TAKEN
you are God Dam **** Out of luck.
Deal with it thats what you get for going with GOOGLE. See page 8 for details And I do have the emails from google still.
DAMN!

That SUCKS. Google can do nothing for you, my best advice would be to report it stolen to your local authorities. Make sure to give them the serial number and stuff so they can verify that it's yours if they find it.

Check with the credit card company that you used to pay for the phone, I think they have some kind of purchase protection within 60 or 90 days.

Did you try using the Android Device Manager to locate it before contacting the thief? Or was she not able to even open the box to register it?

Actually I called google first, They directed me to my carrier. All google will do is Blacklist The IMEI if its stolen in transit. I asked and pleaded with the google support guy who was very sympathetic but he said there was nothing they could do.
I had my girlfriend "Ring" the phone from google devices. hoping the guy is in class and it makes a big scene.
She also then "Locked" the phone via Google devices.
I really appriciate all the input guys. I actually dont feel so screwed over even though it still sucks. Having NO recourse is like the absolute worst!

A few things:
1) You should always have a lock on the phone (ALWAYS). It's simple to put a password or pattern unlock on the phone and it pretty much completely prevents someone from using the phone. It's still possible to reset the phone, but it's much more difficult for the average thief (too much so to make it worth it).
2) Activate Android Device Manager immediately after turning on any Android phone for the first time. It'll let you track the phone, ring it loudly if you need to, lock it remotely (and permanently), and wipe it, if necessary. It's the best built-in protection possible, and it works really well.
You shipped a phone at college dorm?
Hindsight my friend. This is the first phone I or her have had stolen.
I already activated it on everyone I knows device. And its only been 14 hours :good:
Phone was out of the box, Literally the first day she left the house with it is when it was stolen.
Must have been someone who knew the phone was there
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Nexus 5 met Tapatalk 4
If u enabled it you can track the location of the phone as long as it is logged into your gmail account.

To the OP, it's an awesome thing that you used AmEx for the purchase as they have incredible benefits. Their purchase protection is second to none (Up to $1000 per incident/$50,000 per year). It's also good you've filed a police report, since you'll need the report number.
1) Call 1-800-322-1277. That's AmEx's purchase protection department.
2) File a stolen item report with them. They'll ask for the supporting documentation or info from the police report.
3) Once they've done their stuff (usually a couple business days) you'll have the funds credited back to your card.
I always use my AmEx for important/expensive purchases just because of this benefit.

Nobody said google was at fault.
So here is a horrible update...
I called google initially to report it stolen so they could blacklist the IMEI, Google said they couldnt help so I should call the carrier. I called Tmobile and they claimed they were blacklisting it. a day and a half later nothing is done.
I call Tmobile again and this time they claim they cant do anything since the phone wasnt purchased from them.
So Im pretty upset at this point I try calling LG and they cant help me.
So I call google back Yesterday Friday the 15'th and the CSR tells me there is nothing they can do.
At this point Im Enraged. How can they let this fall through the cracks?
If it was an Iphone it wouldve been HANDLED that day.
But I get the bounce around and now its Saturday and the phone still isnt blacklisted.
Basically googles Inability to Do anything has allowed the theif to either sell it or trade it in for money. basically ensuring I never get the device back.
To make matters worse My Amex is a Bank of america AMEX and people are saying it doesnt have purchase protection only warranty extension.
So at this point I cant get anyone at google to help me. Ive called 6 times, Been referred to 2 specialists and basically told that there is nothing that can be done. Google is telling me they cant black list phones and so I should just deal with it.
I find it unacceptable and I am looking for a way to voice my disdain for google customer service.
They really botched the situation.
Considering.
I called google within 1 hour of the theft and they told me to call my carrier to black list the phone.
This could have been handled on the spot.
If anyone has any information that could help. Even google corporate contact information it would be nice.
I will never buy another product from google after all this BS.
The Google needs to stop screwing the customer.
If we buy a phone from them and the carrier has no authority to blacklist it then Who will ?
Basically you can steal anyone's nexus device and not ever worry about a blacklisted IMEI??????

Sorry for your issue, but Google has no play whatsoever to 'blacklist' an IMEI. Carriers do that. If TMO refuses, there is nothing else to do/say about it. You need to focus on getting your money back.

this device was reset ( Google Account )

Hello, I have a big problem with my note 5 I have always this message : this device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device
I flashed it with Odin but I have the same problem !!
That is not a problem. Simply sign in using the Google account that you used before you reset the phone.

This is a Google security feature designed to protect against theft and personal data loss. If you have changed your Google password and then done a factory reset, you must wait 72 hours before you can log back into your device with your new password. If you have purchased the device in this condition, you must return it to the seller and have them unlock the device.
Since the onset of Android 5.1 and up, you must remove your Google account first, prior to a factory reset if you are planning to sell your device. Otherwise, when the new owner starts up the device they will see the same message you are. If you have stolen this device, this prevents you from getting their information and also being able to use the device.
There may be ways around this, but that falls into a gray area of what is allowed on XDA and what isn't. Please be mindful going forward with this discussion.
Thank you.

I understand where you're coming from. And I in no way condone theft of any kind. But I do also realize that I am unaware of the situation at hand and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. What if someone sold it to him in that condition? What if he genuinely did screw something up and get locked out of his Google account? There could be any number of situations and yes, theft can be one of them. I just don't like to assume the worst. But maybe I'm just naive.

Fair enough, but my view is that if the device was acquired legally, it would be a simple matter to go back to the seller to rectify the situation. We have had a number of people on here recently trying to find ways past locked/blocked phones etc., when the simplest (and most logical) solution if the phone was acquired legally would be to go back to the seller for help, and not seek a way past such security measures here - as such, and to avoid the risk of potentially aiding and abetting phone theft, I prefer to see such discussions shut down.
Theres actually a work around thats very simple and requires a otg cable

While I understand your point, there are many instances where individuals have purchased devices legal (e.g., via eBay or Swappa) and the seller is either unwilling or unable or not knowledgeable enough to help. Many of these instances have been reported here on XDA. Hence there are indeed valid reason for threads like this to exist. That said, any indications or suggestions of fraud will not be tolerated.

Why is there no discussion about the new FunkyHuawei 'kinda root' service?

FunkyHuawei has taken kind of a weird turn recently, starting with a total conversion from a 'credit' system to a subscription model. They released info about this on the 10th, on their Twitter account:
https://mobile.twitter.com/FunkyHuawei
A monthly fee... Hmm, I wonder why. Could it be that their new workaround to get 'root' on the Mate 20 Pro is a very fragile hack that doesn't actually unlock the bootloader, and can (and will) be disabled with *ANY* kind of update - be it firmware or otherwise? Yeah, that is what else they announced - that they have a working hack to 'kinda' get root on the Mate 20 Pro. It is detailed here:
https://funkyhuawei.club/root
A few things to note from this:
1) They seem to only be able to do it for 3 distinct models: LYA-L29, LYA-L09, LYA-L0C. Yay for Canadians, I guess?
2) They can (or will) *only* perform this service over remote control of your computer, via TeamViewer. That kinda makes me cringe, for too many reasons to list. It doesn't mean it is necessarily shady, but if given the option I would rather not go down that road.
3) The service is PRICEY. Even though they only announced it three days ago, the 'opening sale' is over after today, and will normally cost $190 USD. (It is on 'sale' at the moment for $165). This is pretty damned expensive, given the, er... 'transient' nature of the hack - and the obvious reliance on the subscription model as a result.
4) They are a little vague about this one, but even though they have also come up with a way to flash any firmware to any phone, even if the OEM bootloader unlock is grayed out, this hack seems to only work with specific versions of firmware. In other words, they are likely going to do a downgrade and they certainly aren't going to promise future proof. This... Isn't good.
5) They clearly state that any changes to anything will break the hack, and that is on YOU. In other words, they are hinting that even with the new subscription model you would need to pay full price for them to perform this remote service every time. Not only that, they are not responsible for anything going wrong, even during their initial attempt. That is standard practice for this kind of thing I guess, but at that price?
I can't see myself going for this. It sounds too flakey to be worth it. Honestly it looks like we just have to hold out hope that someone brute forces the encryption on the algorithm used to generate the bootloader unlock codes, or a solid working hack to get around it. FH is charging this kind of money because they are betting that there will never be any other way to get 'root' on a Mate 20 Pro, even though this smells a lot like the tethered jailbreaks for the iphones that were so fragile they could break if the wrong app was executed never mind rebooting the phone.
To anyone who goes this route, let us know how it works out. It sounds like once successful (and if you never flash the firmware) you ARE able to install a working SU/Magisk onto the phone yourself. They go out of their way to say that they will flash a TWRP recovery to the phone if you wish, but they won't put any root on it themselves. Again, probably a legal thing more than anything else.
I wish Huawei would just sell us bootloader unlock codes.
I think there's no discussion because of what you've already outlined and that, based on their recent track record, no one really trusts them.
The reason they'll only do it over Team Viewer is because they don't want to give you the tools in order to 1) force you to go back to them when it gets reverted by an update and 2) to stop the tools getting shared. If they connect to your PC then they can download what they need from their servers (securely using authentication) run it then clean up after themselves so as not to leave anything behind.
As you say, they're relying on there being no alternative and that M20P owners become desperate enough to go this route but I can't see that many going for it.

Hmm, that sounds exactly like what they would do. We need someone to go through this and pull off a bit of a hack of their own and keep all the software/data they download onto your computer. I wonder how paranoid they are, surely they don't go so far as to run tools that wipe the free space left when they delete their own stuff? Meh, this sounds like kind of a flaky hack - so far. I don't have a problem with them charging for a good service but $200 is a LOT for something that can't survive basic firmware upgrades.
I am glad no one is talking about this, because they are a piece of crap. They only want to steal our money. 100$+ for crap hack... Ahahah.
Funkyhuawei are nothing but scammers.
Yes, Just scammers, First of all, we should not promote them on XDA.
Fully agree with what is written in the previous post and I would never go to this service.
What remains is to point at the real source of all this, namely Huawei and their refusal to allow bootloader unlocking. Why in all heavens is it not possible for them to do it like many other companies do? In the light of all this I sadly state that the Mate 20 Pro was my first and last Huawei phone !

There's always One Plus where you pay $700 for a $300 phone with an upgraded processor and have to use custom ROMs that always have bugs because Oxygen is an ineptly coded train-wreck.
Strange how nobody seems to mind that XDA has been shilling for One Plus for years.
But at least you can unlock the bootloader, right?

You can always use a downgrade file that funkyhuawei customer service told you would work and have thay file brick your phone and be told 'its your fault the file didnt work' after paying out 150 in unlimited passes and bootloader unlock codes.
But you can always use your huawei warrenty and get a battered device returned to you right?
$190 for a "root but not root" solution is just daylight robbery. I dont think FH are welcome here anymore...

ok are you still within your 90 day paypal protection ?, if you are write them an email detailing everything and tell them their decision is against paypal buyer protection. You did not receive the level of service you were shown on funky (scammer) website and than your phone got messed up as well that's enough to appeal, try it and see what they say. Happened with me on a eBay purchase, they decided in favour of the seller, I wrote them they refunded me the full amount. Hope this helps, cheers.

touchscreen issues

Hey
Is anyone having issues with say the top 1/4 of the top of the screen
Occasionally and I cannot reproduce it on command. The top 1/4 of my screen stops responding to touch. I have to turn the screen off and then back on and then it will work fine.
Software or hardware issue?
Anyone else notice this?
Nope. I would try a factory reset at this point and see if it still persists. I think you were also having issues with deep sleep right? If that hasn't been resolved, I'd do a fresh start at this point, especially if you have a possible HW issue on your hands.

Or I bring to a repair facility. Which is BS. The device is less then 30 days old
So far no support that is actually acceptable.

Google isn't the same... I don't know where you got that - at least, if you purchase it from the Google store. I've exchanged the original pixel 6 times (they had a lot of issues with microphone) and the pixel 3 xl a couple times. Google has always done an advanced replacement so I'm never without a phone. The only thing they require is a hold on a credit card until the return is cleared.
That's one reason I like Google so much and could never go with something like oneplus or htc. That and Google could care less if you root your phone - warranty is still intact.

Since i got it from a retailer (and not the google store), the only option presented to my by google was:
1. send in for repair/replacement, no device sent to me first (advanced replacement)
2. bring to authorized repair center
Bestbuy warranty was the same, except no authorized repair was provided, only to send in the device and wait for it to come back to.
Neither provided me with advanced replacement options, even when asking or offering to place a credit card hold/deposit.

Unfortunately this is the case if you don't buy direct from Google. I experienced this the hard way last year with my pixel 3XL... I had a Pixel 1 and 2 XL from Google and loved the advanced exchange program. But when I bought my 3XL from a vendor (because Google were out of stock) it becomes a little annoying being without a phone when you have a warranty issue... Just chalk it up as a lesson to be learned and next year get it from Google directly.
Makes me worries now as I purchased one today via best buy, unlocked, non carrier version.
@OP, was yours also purchased at best buy?

So is it a carrier branded version? And not the unlocked variant?
Side note : if you have a uBreakiFix store, bring it in, online is saying it's a same day repair

It's unlocked.
Went to bestbuy to do the upgrade instead of the carrier store.
I have a ubreakifix nearby but that's not the point. I shouldn't have to do a repair on a 30 day device. Should be a swap out. Not a repair.

If you did the upgrade, then you must have gotten one of Carrier version (Verizon, att, etc)
You said you went to BB to do the upgrade instead of going to the carrier store, which service is it?
BB also sells the pure unlocked version, Im not sure if carrier branded upgrade offers the pure unlocked version as it's 'upgrade'
Ahh I understand now. Yeah lesson to be learned for next year! Sorry that sucks

Yes they do. No devices are allowed to be locked in Canada. Against the law now.
Its frustrating. Regardless. It's a manufacturer device and I'm stuck with either being out of a device for days. Or repairing it

I would recommand to unlock bootloader, install a TWRP recovery wipe Data, dalvik cache/art and system, then it should brick it / bootloop it and a recovery menu should appear askip u to download last recovery or something like that, and then if u want relock the bootloader (it will also wipe TWRP)

Expect the worse; it may have not been registered... yet.
If you paid with a Visa or MC do a charge back.
You need to return it to the seller ask bank if there's a problem doing so.
Personally I'd hammer the seller to a pulp.
&
Stay off FB, it's nothing but trouble. Only buy from trusted vendors...
if really you cant contact the seller or send it back, well try methods to unlock it, either by removing FRP with somes tutorials or by unlocking bootloader (but you need access to your phone so eh)

Always use a card as it gives you some protection. Think of it as a tune up... at least it didn't cost $600 or more. Courses from the U of Hard Knocks are generally quit expensive.
You can bypass it like others have said.
