Recover Data - Smashed screen - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Hello all.
My girlfriend dropped her S10, and the screen has smashed. The top ~20% of the screen is visible still, but the rest doesn't work. The screen is responsive some of the time - but hard to tell where I'm hitting anything... and becoming increasingly difficult to unlock (Might be locked out for ___ minutes? Can't tell!)
She's gotten a new phone as the cost of a new screen was prohibitive... but I'm trying to recover the data (photos) from the phone and not having much luck. Plugging in the USB, I'm unable to allow the access to the storage....
I've done a quick google search and have found plenty of 'free download' options (which you have to pay to use of course) to recover data.... is there any actual free tool anyone can point me to in order to get her photos off of the phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hello nogoodname, try with USB adapter on usb-c with a mouse you should see the cursor is able to navigate.
If not as USB debugging not activated try with recuva or samsung dex

You will hardly be able to bring it back. I have everything that matters to me and on PC. In the case of something, I switch everything from PC to the phone. I am writing to you that from now you everything that is important to you, you save for PC.

That's a good shout. I did actually manage to download Google Home .. then managed to cast the screen to my Nest Hub. Then I was able to see where I was touching and managed to allow access to the PC. Photos copied over successfully.
recuva / Dex...... I'll look into these to see if anything else wanted off the phone! Thank you!

Yeah... It's not my phone. All my stuff is backed up automatically. My girlfriend has learned a valuable lesson though!

Hello
My friend has Nexus 6, or should I say had. Unfortunately, he dropped his phone really hard on concrete. LCD is completely dead. He is dumb enough to never make a backup of his photos etc. Is there any way to get his data back ? Phone is pure stock.
Thanks for any help

If the phone turns on and boots just plug it in the PC and you might be able to port them to the PC.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app

Well a very annoying thing about Marshmallow is that the phone requires you to unlock it and select file share over usb mode otherwise it will only charge off a computer, if he had ADB enabled AND had it used on a computer in the past then you can do an ADB pull, but again on a new computer you'll have to confirm that you trust the computer to get adb to work. And even if he had TWRP recovery installed you'll still need to decrypt the phone using a passcode unless he used a unsecure lockscreen. Also if you have ADB access then you can use a chrome extension called "vysor" which mirrors the phone screen onto your computer to interact with it.
EDIT: just read pure stock...
Debugging is unfortunately off.
Is the actual screen destroyed, or just the digitizer?
If the actual screen is toast along with the digitizer, replacing the screen is the only means of retrieving his data. The good news in that regard is that taking apart the Nexus 6 is actually quite easy, based upon iFixit's teardown of the device.
If only the digitizer is gone, there may be some hope. Grab a USB OTG cable and a PC mouse. Connect the mouse to the OTG cable and plug the OTG cable into the MicroUSB port. Android should then generate a mouse cursor that you can use to maneuver around the device. From there you should be able to enable USB debugging if you want, or simply copy his data to Mega, Mediafire, Dropbox, or Google Drive for later retrieval.
I had the same thing happen to my N6. With nothing to lose, I banged it against my palm and saw the screen flicker. After a few more taps, I got the screen to come back long enough to back up data and get me through till a replacement arrived.

Accessing Information from a Broken Device

Hey everyone.
So I've got a question that I'm hoping you guys / girls can help me with.
I have this old Lumia 520 that fell to its inevitable demise in 2014. The digitizer is cracked and unresponsive, but the screen itself powers on fine and isn't damaged from what I can tell. I saved what I could from the SD card I had in it, but there was still a lot of photos that I wanted that was stored on the device's local storage.
Here's the thing though, I cannot access it from my PC via USB cable unless the screen is unlocked, and I can't unlock it because the touch panel is broken! And so the phone has been laying in a drawer ever since.
Is there any workaround to this? Some way that I might be able to save these long-lost pictures? I really have no interest in repairing the phone. If I can get the photos off it I'll probably just throw it away, as I have a way better device now anyway.
Cheers! :good:

password lock will reset phone

tried to google for a solution, but found nothing. Here is the problem my sister autistic son dropped her galaxy s6 phone and somewhat broke the screen. he tried to unlock the phone but it would not register now the counter is on the 14 try and if one more attempt is made it will reset the device. Now my sister has no knowledge of where the memory was so she attempted to open the phone to retrieve the memory card (yea I know it doesnt have one, but she didnt) not only did she totally screw up the lcd ,charge port and everything else. When she brought it to me I had to ask her did you use a hammer to open it up . So now I managed to buy a used lcd and connected her motherboard on it. To my surprise it turned on but it is saying it will take 869 minutes before another attempt can be made to unlock it. My question is there any way I can retrieve her pictures and files. Connected the phone to the computer but it will not show any files. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She has alot of pictures of her son and daughter she does not want to loose.

If the computer won't recognize the device then maybe try having the photos upload to drop box or Google Drive or something.

Please help- screen dead (bright white light), backup data?

This forum has been so helpful to me when I've tried to root older devices or flash ROMs to change carriers. I'm hoping you can help with a more basic problem.
My son's S10 that is 13 months old basically just died yesterday with no warning. He woke up in the morning and had no display. The screen is just a bright white light. If I swipe down from the top I can see one tiny strip of the quick menu and can slide that strip up and down, but can't actually tap on any menu icons. (We have insurance through Best Buy, so $200 later, a new phone is on the way, but we're hoping to salvage some stuff off of it).
He didn't listen to me when we got our phones last summer and never set up Google Assistant, apparently never changed his contacts to be stored on Google instead of the phone, didn't use an SD card, and apparently never attempted a PC backup because USB debugging is not enabled (and I can't tap the screen to do it now).
The phone is backed up to Google Drive, but I don't think his pictures are. Is there any way to recover the pictures (and maybe the contacts, but we can live without those if we have to)?
I've tried using an OTG adapter (USB C to HDMI) on the TV. We see the lock screen but can't get to a place where we can enter the PIN.
I've tried APowerMirror, but can't do it without USB debugging.
I saw something that would let me try to something in Odin, but I have to boot the phone into download mode and I can't even power it off right now, unless I were to let the battery die.
ANY thoughts or solutions would be appreciated. TIA!
I've purchased a new case and an SD card for the new one and will be doing the setup myself this time!
Here are pics of what it looks like, if that helps (fix space before com to see):

Turned out contacts were backed up after all So it's just the pictures missing. Pretty sure there's nothing I can do, but bumping just to see if there's any last thoughts. Letting the battery die so I can try booting in download mode. But USB debugging wasn't enabled, so I'm not super hopeful. (The alarm still goes off every morning at 11:30 and I can swipe the screen up to turn it off... so some part of it still functions).

Broken screen - how to backup data?

My son has smashed his p20 pro, the screen is totally dead. I'm kind of new to this stuff, how can we get his photos videos etc off the phone? As far as I know it has stock software on it.
Thanks
Use Vysor, google it, it allows you pc/mouse access to whatever you CANT see on your broken screen.

Thanks for that, I've downloaded and run it, looks like he hasnt enabled usb debugging on his phone, so I'm still stuck
Have you tried a fone to hdmi lead in order to possibly see phone screen on a tv/monitor?

I'm trying to get hold of one now, I've been reading other threads and it seems like a good option!
With that lead you only need to enable usb debug, then Vysor all the way
