So, just have a quick question.. i just picked up a bc today, and have loved rooting it and modding it. But i noticed one thing, the back of the case (and somewhat the front too) around an inch below the power button has somebflex and creek. I don't think it is a huge problem, but am curious if this is normalor just mine. . .

Yeah I have seen a few others mention that and I can confirm that mine is the same. For that kind of price there has to be more than one thing that suffers and in this case it seems to be build quality to some extent.
My volume buttons feel loose and rattle easily, also if you tap the back of the nc you can feel that the case is not solid at all. I'm not really bothered by it though.
/mr
I haven't taken my nook apart but from the zdnet teardown picks it looks like you could put some foam or something inside the case to give it a better feel.
/mr
My book as a slight creak but only because i was looking for it, I couldn't tell otherwise. It is on the top of my book where the front bezel frame meets the case. It does not bother me. On my wife's book there is no creak at all. They probably should have glued or used adhesive along the edge of the bezel to prevent the minor flexing that creaks.
I have a similar issue on mine. Mine creaks right where your hand goes when holding it in portrait mode. I'm considering exchanging it for a different unit.
Many people are noticing this:

My apologies on a duplicate thread - i did a quick search and didn't find this.. i ll be sure to look better in the future.
I decided to change my aging Galaxy S II because its dev community becane stagnant (no kernel sources, tons of kangs). The XT sounded perfect on paper : 720p screen, 13mp camera, Krait chipset, good sound quality and some great devs migrated to it. However after a week of use I can't help but feel a bitter taste in my mouth for buying it sight unseen (this phone is very hard to get in my country). Here is my little "rant", structured in in bullet points:
1) The screen acquired TONS of microscratches in just a week. I knew sony doesn't use gorilla glass, but this is terrible. I can't even pull it out of my pocket w/o fearing that it will scratch . I am very careful with my phone (my S2 was in pristine condition after two months of use with no screen protectors/cases), so I doubt it's me. Also, the screen itself is pretty bad, but I won't complain too much about it since I read about this in reviews and various topics around here.
2) The case paint already started peeling. Not much, but at this rate it will look like it's 2 years old in just a month. Such a shame since I love the finish.
Another point of concern is the audio quality. It has a discernible hiss no matter what headphones or music app I use. It's even worse on CM10 and since I got this phone mostly for the dev community this just sucks donkey balls. Every respectable reviewer complained about the SQ of the S2 and its background noise caused by the CPU/radios and none about the XT and yet it is easier to notice on the XT.
What is your opinion about this? I've seen that some topics already covered some of these issues, but I think they need to be brought again to the attention of potential buyers.
LE: It seems that my headphone jack port is also very flimsy. It falls off every time I try to put on / take off my case.
Strange... My XT seems very robust, difficult to scratch and the ruberish coating seems perfect. Perhaps you should contact Sony and request a replacement. Check the booklets that came with it perhaps?

1) There is a shatter proof sheet applied on it. So the micro scratches is technically on that, not on the screen itself. Peel that off and apply a new screen protector.
2) Is a known issue for LT30p? I havent seen anyone posting issues with LT30at or LT30a atm.

Is that sheet made of glass? I can't seem to be able to peel it. I heard that it should come with a screen protector, but i haven't found anything in the box.

It's a very, very thick screen protector. It comes off but it takes some work. Trying to peel it off at the corners using a piece of paper seems to work best for most people, but you'll just have to spend some time on it if you really want to get it off
You should leave it on though, unless those microscratches really bother you.
On sound quality: it's perfectly fine for me and I use audiophile earbuds (these: https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-MDR7550/). It lacks a tiny bit of stereo separation and clarity, but not worse than any other phone at all.
I thought it's something like this one, but preapplied since it didn't come in the box. Any tutorials on how to do it? I already ordered a 3M screen protector which should be much harder to scratch.

In contrast to you, I am not discouraging anyone to buy it.
Well, I am using Xperia V (LT25i) and perhaps it has different build quality since it has to withstand dirt and water? It has a metal frame (looks like atleast) and rubber on the backside. It also came with an extra screen protector in the box. I know you don't care about Xperia V but maybe somebody reading this wants to know? Only downside are all these flipp flop USB-, charger and headphone openings that has to be sealed after use.
In regard to music player, PowerAmp is a must for best sound! :good:
Hope you don't feel too bad about the Xperia T and Happy New Year!

Of course it has different build quality. The IP57 certification is pretty rough. And the screen might be different too.

I had mine since December 3rd with lots of time to test and use it. Maybe you got a faulty device, it happend to me before and I made DOA. Got a new phone in the shop next day.
Xperia V Walkman is good too, don't know if it is the same version as Xperia T.
Conclusion of Xperia V (if someone wants to know).
*No scratch on the display (one extra sheet in the box).
*Feels good in hand and sturdy built quality, no squeaky parts.
*Music and sound is fine, but if I want louder volume -I buy PowerAmp.
If it gets dirty-, too hot or scratched, just wash it with cold water.
My XT is perfect for me, I havn't any problem on screen or anything.
Sony Xperia T - Stock ROM - Firmware 7.0.3.195 - 4.1.2 Stock Leaked Launcher - Rooted soon.
Xperia V is also good and maybe more, but I like my phone !
Sony Xperia T - Stock ROM - Firmware 7.0.3.195 - 4.1.2 Stock Leaked Launcher - Rooted soon.
My T is perfectly working. No scratches, and the screen quality is superb. It also doesn't peel in the back.

The only thing i'found is that the back cover makes a little sound sometimes if I press it, like if it wasn't well attached. Sorry for my english.
Sucks to hear that op. I have my XT since 15 November and I have no problems. The phone looks and works as new. No scratches, no poor performance. I have the newest firmware available and everything works just fine.

Well, it isn't the performance that bothers me. Actually, the performance is great. And finally having CM10 with working project butter features is like a godsend. I'm just worried about the outer casing.
Ive had my XT since it came out in UK, its great but the only problem I have is the build quality, I don't have the flaking issue, but more the phone creaking, its quite a annoying sound. I have a case but I only have it on when I go out.
Apart from that its awesome phone
Sent from my LT30p using xda premium
I've also got the creaking issue. Also removed the rather thick shatter protector that has improved screen responsiveness and contract, slightly...
Would be interested in the Xperia Z though, if the price is right i'd exchange.
had my xperia t since october3rd not one scratch looks like new guess i take better care of mine that anyone else
Had mine since the 26th October. It's on O2 UK with the Bond branding.
Build quality is excellent thus far. No peeling. Screen has pre-applied protector, plus the one that came in the box. Very happy with it. Previous phone was an iPhone 3GS and had the original iPhone before that.
Android seems to have acquired 'polish' since I last tried it about a year ago.
My T seem perfect until now (buyed 12/12/12)
The only problem si the poor wifi range.. it's too low compared to my previous LG optimus black.

No problems here so far...
I was just wondering if it is just my phone. I got the developers edition VZW and when I push on the logo in the back of the phone (back/bottom of the phone) I get a tape sound when I release. Like they forgot to put padding or something in the back.
Is this normal?
I was going to go to the VZ store and see if they have the issue.
Same!
I have the regular vzw moto x and it does the same thing! I thought mine was defective or something. Weird...
I have had three Moto Maker AT&T models and none have had this issue. They have had other issues, including faulty haptic feedback, WiFi antenna, and varying degrees of smoothness at the edges (the wraparound glass or whatever they called it) and on the flash (one phone was completely smooth at the edges and at the flash on the back, another has a more pronounced lip).

also moving onto my third moto x. 2 gsm dev editions, and now i'm just going on to a used at&t model. for me:
1st gsm dev: marks on the screen in low light
2nd gsm dev: dirt embedded in the white backing, rattley/loose vibrations, creaky back
i figure, as long as i'm compromising and not getting a perfect device, might as well save $300 and get a used one where my expectations aren't so high. i just hope i get one with tight vibrations. i wish moto would get their crap together, this is such a beautiful phone.
Wait.. so I'm really interested in getting a moto x but it sounds like there are a lot of problems with the build quality.. Is this only with the phones that are manufactured in the US?

there are a lot of issues on every new phone released. but there seems to be a good bit from the usa factory. if you are in the states... a motomaker phone is your best bet as far as quality goes. my first one was perfect. but dropped it on day four and busted the glass. so they gave me a new one. this one seems to have a weak vibrator. but that is something i can easily live with. as im not a fan of haptic. but i have yet to turn it off because i dont need the battery savings.
Well, I just tried and mine does it too. I never hold the phone in such a way that I'm actually touching that area so not really an issue for me. It does sound like tape, though.

while i have no plans of testinf it out...there were leaked pics just before the release that show the x in layers. those pics show that there is some empty space as the back curves up at the camera all the way to the top. there is a lip at the top of the camera to keep the back from flexing in. id imagine that is why you can press down in the first place. just fyi.
OK. So it is normal. From the answers here and going to the Verizon store. They must have a piece of tape for the entire back and a gap at the bottom of the phone. Causing the issue. I am not going to try to do an RMA because it seems to be a design issue.
Aside from this issue, this has been by far my favorite android phone.

makes sense and agree. i didnt look at ifixit, so i didnt want to say there was tape. but i know the og droid razr had a back that was taped to the battery. and then the battery was connected by a ribbon. of which i ripped and ruined when taking it apart. so be careful if you ever decide to diy. it helps with twist/flex. so i would have to assume they did the same thing on the x. and it sounds like the tape is a bit bigger than it needs to be. no doubt because the usa plant isnt as good at building phones so they made it easier on the employees. which is why peeps are able to push in and hear a tape sound. it sounds like if it were an eighth inch shorter... this would be a non issue.
and i also agree with you that its not worth worrying about. the bad assedness of the phone makes up for the design flaw.
I guess the subject says it all but just to be clear. I put my brand new Z3 Compact in my back pocket, too it out 2 minutes later and had a nice crack over the screen. The durability of the Z3 Compact screen is just a joke when it breaks this fast.
I carried my old HTC One S in my back pocket for the last 2.5 year and it just has some scratches (it also survived some nasty falls).
I've contacted Sony for support and I'm curious how they will respond...

You must have buttocks made of steel.
I'm pretty sure it didn't just sponaneously crack in your back pocket, you must have sat down or something while it was in there.
By the way, keeping your phone in your back pocket is like asking for it to be stolen by pickpockets.
The biggest joke here must the be that you're angry and surprised that a phone breaks when carrying it in you're back pocket.

I get the impression that the black version seems to be more sensitive.... Fingers crossed 'cause I got the white one
I suppose you didn't use a case or protection of any kind?
I hope Sony say 'Tough titties don't sit on your phone moron!'
Seriously what do people expect...
Looks like some scratches on the right side as well as a chip. Your leaving a lot out it wasn't just a "stuck it in my back pocket and it broke".
Even tho phones never used to break in back pockets, suddenly iPhone 6 and now z3c owners are saying, what do you expect.
I'd expect a phone to not be weaker than the old ones actually.
Hope you get it sorted op.
i'm sure they broke too. but no one took the time to post about it until now because they knew that it was their fault for breaking it. now all of a sudden, they are like, hey i should tell everyone about this because it makes me cool.
I carry my Z3C naked, not a single scratch yet.

Phones are steadily getting larger & thinner, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that sitting on your phone isn't going to do it a world of good.
In other news: camera in phones aren't as good as dedicated cameras.. (thought I'd better mention that too, as that's something else many people have difficulty grasping)
you're right, planes have got larger, thinner (skinned) and lighter too .
Best not fly anymore then as by your rationale we should expect breakage and not expect improvements as technology advances.

People too seem to have got larger and more thin skinned...
I'm not sure how to spell this out.
The laws of physics dictate, larger thinner objects are more likely to break/bend when pressure/weight is applied than smaller fatter ones.
Nothing to do with technology, people need to stop being sheep and apply a little common sense, before doing stupid things then 'blaming the technology' - take some responsibility for yourself ffs.
My Z3C was in front pocket (not very tight pants) and front screen was cracked with no reason.

that is basically identical the crack that i had except mine was on the back. Mine is back with Sony at the moment! mine was in my front pocket though.
Just because manufactures make the phone thinner and lighter does not mean the way people use them are any different. people still put them in pockets etc. I have kept my nexus 5 in my back pocket for ages, sat down on it etc and its not cracked. (im 6ft4 and about 17st) i get my sony and breaks in 5 days...when its in the front pocket. There are making things lighter and thinner sure but not to the point where i have to make sure i carry a phone in bubble wrap because they cant make it strong enough for everyday use. Something is wrong with the phones not with the way are they being carried!

Quoted for truth
You really should get a phone with more durable material if you plan to pocket it. It's just common sense it is fragile..... Belt clip for me!
Glass on Back Of Xperia Z3 C may be inferior.
Inferior meaning not the Asahi Dragontrail or Gorilla Glass 3
Equivalent we HOPE is on the front.
Does Sony specify exactly what is on the front of these phones ?
And I think the specs on the back glass are more vague.
Seems like design flaw / substitution glass or maybe illogical
design flaw.
One of main reasons I want a phone this
size is to put in front pocket and carry ..
Use to play Internet Radio while I work and
browse play on when not working.
In a good case is this phone rugged enough for physically active
People ? Or too fragile .

The front glass seems good, no micro scratches so far. I'm just going to get me a Spigen Ultra Hybrid clear bumper case as soon as it comes out for the Z3C, then it'll be fine.
Right now I have this as a temporary case: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/flexishield-sony-xperia-z3-compact-gel-case-frost-white-p49135.htm
Some people seem to think scratch resistant = shatterproof. Actually the most scratch resistant materials like diamond etc are not hard to shatter/break at all. It has nothing to do with one another.
I was going to buy the Z3c and apply a shatter resistant film on the front and back, but that only protects from knocks to the panel from resonating and breaking the glass, not from pressure from lifting your leg with the phone in your front pocket.
If anyone has a go-to brand of protective film they use to prevent breaking (not so much scratching, as I can replace the film every now and again), I want to know!

I bought just the case and the circular polarizer, I already have a camera grip I use and the other filters I have no use for. Will post about them when I get them delivered.
The case and circular polarizer arrived yesterday.
Initial thoughts are that the case fits the phone nicely, it does seem thicker than the stock case, and the camera bump housing is a lot thicker. Unusaly they have put a clear glass in the case and then you add the circular polarizer on to it, it connects magnetically.
I am not particularly fond of the thickness and the fact the polarizer connects magnetically makes it a bit fiddly and a couple of times it fell of whilst trying to adjust.
Another issue is that because the case has glass as well as the camera and the circular polarizer, it means that it is very easy to get dust/dirt etc on any of the lenses.
The CP works well as a polarizer.

I have expected worse for a third party manufacturer. Would be great if vivo would made a setup themselves like Xiaomi did for the 13 ultra. I'm really enjoying my Xiaomi photography kit.

i bought fotorgear vor vivo [90 pro plus. beautiful, well made. but the bluetooth phone grip does not connect to the phone. tell me the correct sequence of actions to connect phone. what am l doing wrong?
w
3 things that bother me:
- there is an additional piece of glass between the camera and the magnetic filters. Will remove the glass from the case if possible
- the case looks kind of cool and it has "magsafe" but jugding from the pictures with the phone inside the case, it seems there is no lip to protect the display?
- red and white are the only 2 color options available? Settled for the red one but wish there was a black version
1) I took it off immediately leaving the stickers and breaking it (it came off beautifully)
2) in fact I noticed that the screen protector corners are too low and are therefore useless
3) ditto on color
