I tried searching for an answer but found nothing that applied to my problem.
I was able to put TWRP on my tablet and since have been trying to decide which ROM to run. I had 17 installed and messed up installing 16. I had backed up 17 but when I attempted to restore the backup it failed. Did I skip a step?
I wiped everything except the SD card before attempting to restore. Do I need to do more? It has been a few years since I last backed up and restored a phone. I've never done this on a tablet before. My phone was, I think, rooted. The tablet is not rooted.

I decided to try out rooting my device using superoneclick on Friday, then I also manually installed the latest OTA update yesterday. And now my device is not happy. Before all this, the thing was solid, has never once crashed or rebooted on me. In the last 24 hours, I've had to remove the battery about 10 times so far, as it has locked up completely. Seems something is off with GPS, as using geo-location related functions from within apps seems to cause this. The bootloader is still locked, and I haven't installed any recovery images or anything like that, just rooted and updated using the update.zip method, but something has not gone well.
So, my question is, how can I restore everything back to how it was? I want stock, 100% unfucked-with everything back in the device. Factory wipe hasn't helped, and hasn't removed root (which surprised me, but seems obvious now I think about it). I have a copy of the Nexus One FRG83 system image (73.9mb) from HTC, but don't know how to install it. Once I install this, I will update using the ota updates, and try root again.
What do I do?
Read my signature.
Rename the the system image to PASSIMG.zip. Boot into the bootloader and it should detect it automatically. Update, restart, done.
Thanks guys/
Question.. I went to restore a backup I made on my unlocked bl moto in TWRP. After a couple minutes it said FAILED. I tried a different backup that FAILED. I went ahead and booted. I was still running same rom, and all custom apps I had installed as system were there. I just list all my data. Anyone know why? I have a nexus 7 and HTC one; they restore just fine. First time I restored on my moto x. Thanks anyone that may of had similar occurrence.
I just received my SM-T815C this morning. My last tablet at one point "lost" it's /efs folder, creating all manor problems for me. I now understand that it's possible to back that up, but I hadn't done so when I lost it, and it took me forever to recover.
So now, as I begin my journey with my new SM-T815C, I'd like to start by making a FULL system backup of all directories before I eventually root and possibly install a TWRP. Does anyone have a step-by-step tutorial? I've Googled a bit, but most of the pages I found seem to talk more about Jelly Bean than Lollipop. I'm currently running 5.0.2, and I haven't done any rooting or installing of a custom recovery, but plan to do both eventually (if possible).
Of course it is possible to do a full backup of your whole system. For this, you must have a recovery menu customized. The only solution for you is to follow exactly this post to root your machine and to install the customized recovery .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/general/guide-root-tab-s2-t3205019
It's by this menu , you can do a complet backup of the system....You can chose microscard or usb for the backed up
Hi, so basically I am trying to root two identical moto e4 plus phones (I have to double check the build numbers, but i am pretty sure they are identical). I did this by unlocking the bootloader, temporary (not permanently) flash twrp, back up the system by twrp, then flash magisk.zip, following the guides I found on this forum.
So the first phone is now rooted without any problems. The second phone always gets stuck when starting the backup in twrp (it stops at "updating partition details"). I wonder why because everything seems to be "identical". Anyways my question is, since the purpose of backing up is in case anything got messed up, would the back-up of the first phone be good for the second phone too? So I can skip doing the back-up on the second phone and go straight to flashing magisk.zip?
Also since there seems to be a problem with twrp on the second phone, would there be a problem with it flashing magisk.zip? I just don't want to get to the point of no returns if I can help it. Many thanks!
Hello all,
I'm currently trying to help a friend whose Samsung Galaxy A71 got softbricked (bootloop). Since the bootloader is already unlocked, I installed TWRP to backup the internal storage to a PC and then do a clean flash of the firmware via ODIN.
Unfortunately, the device is encrypted (ran on Stock ROM before/Android 10) and it is not possible to access the files.
Is there any way to decrypt and restore the data without wiping/formatting the storage? I already tried to flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.1 but it results in ERROR 1.
Any help is very appreciated!
Hello. I am also interested in this question, is there a result? On March 4, Samsung's stolen data was published, maybe there are already developments on this.
My rooted A71 decided to boot loop a week ago with no warning. It was working fine for 2 years. I was pretty pissed. Like an earlier member I wanted to salvage the data but couldn't read / decrypt the files even when I was in recovery.
After much research I confirmed that I had Google backup enabled and also my Samsung notes was synced to Samsung cloud. So most of everything I wanted was covered. Mainly txts and notes from girls lol.
I did a nand wipe, repartition, and flashed the latest Android with Odin and happy to say the phone's up now. I'm leary of Samsung hardware so I will ensure its backed up and synced to both Google and Samsung services.
