So, my Xperia is brand new! And, obviously I've dipped it in water a couple of times.. mostly to cool it down. [because it gets heated up as heck!] Yesterday, in about 4 a.m. my phone was on charge and it got really hot. So I decided to dip it in water. I disconnected the charger and closed the charger flap. I put it in my pant pocket [bear in mind, my pants were a little tight] .. I took out my phone and without double checking i put it in a mug of water. The charger flap had become loose an when I took it out it might've opened and BAM! Red dye and ****ed up front camera. I FREAKED the heck out! Its a pricy phone and its hardly been a month and they have no warranty if it gets water damaged due to open flaps! Its even more pricy, where I live. But whatever, it was Still working okay.. except for the front camera. I searched some forums and found one that said that 'The water itself doesn't harm the phone, turning it on with water in it might' .. so I switched it off and kept it aside. I woke up today at about 1:00 p.m. and out of curiosity I turned it on. And THERE! The screen now went crazy, turned off and on by itself. The screen is okay because everytime i restart it [Power button + Volume up] it does show the 'Sony' and then 'Xperia' signs then the start up colourful thing does happen but then the screen goes black and the now I can't even switch it off! I did do the vacuum/hair dryer thing. What else can I do? I can't just let it go to waste! Its brand new! PLEASE HELP?! :crying:

Vacuum/hair-dryer are both bad ideas for electronics. The vacuum is bad because it creates a lot of static electricity, and the hair-dryer because, obviously, it heats the phone up to high temperatures.
What you should have done immediately was to turn it off, open all the flaps and put the phone in a bag of rice, letting the rice absorb the water for around a week or so (or at the very least 3-4 days), preferably with a drained/removed battery but this isn't really an option with Xperia Z. After this you need to make sure to get all the rice out before closing the flaps and starting it up.
Fingers crossed nothing has short circuited and/or corroded yet!
And using water to cool the phone, while it seems like a good idea, has to be the dumbest excuse for ruining your phone I've ever heard.
Take it for repair. That is your only option. You will have to pay because the water ingress indicator is red.
Learn from this and don't submerge the phone for no reason when or if you have it back from repair.

do what he said
Using water to cool the phone down? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRzso-PzuOM just an example.
Further, do what Rekoil said. Heard from a few people that it works, but be sure to leave it in there long enough! Don't try to turn it on/charge it earlier.

This. If it's going crazy then there's water shorting something. You're likely to end up with corroded components (and premature failure) if you don't get it professionally repaired.

nothing to do by yourself
if u r sure all ports were closed underwater just take it to official service for replacement.
:good:
Hey OP, I had the same problem after water damage. Just keep using your phone like normal, it'll start turning white/negative less often, and after 3 weeks or so, your phone will be back to normal!

thank you for your attention....
i thought i should let put my xperia z to the sony service center....but i think twice to put it in ssc, cause in my country their service is very bad....the customer very difficult to use their guaranty....once again thank you for all your attention
Water damage isn't covered in the warranty, and it's expensive to repair. When my phone got water damaged (happened less than 48 hours after I got it), I put it in a bag of rice with the 2 smaller flaps open for a few days. That didn't help at all, so I decided to leave it in my cupboard with all the flaps open for a day or two. Surprisingly, this took care of all the visible condensation. I charged my phone after this, and there seemed to be no problem. I continued to use the phone like nothing happened, and I kept using it even while the screen was white.
I've had my Xperia Z for almost a month now, and the white screen issue is entirely gone. I also had other problems like condensation in the camera, a malfunctioning proximity sensor, and an external speaker that didn't work. These problems are gone too.
The only signs of damage left on my phone are condensation in the flash and a little silver blob below my screen (no clue what this is, but it doesn't seem to affect the phone).
I'd say leave your phone somewhere airy with ALL of the flaps open for a couple of days, and then try charging it. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR A VACUUM TO TRY TO REMOVE WATER, AS THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT/STATIC DAMAGE.
By the way, how many of your water ingress indicators have gone red?

there 1 indicator have gone red, at charge port, but i really sure i've closed it before i brought it in to the water...
so if there is technical error when installation the port, are the warranty still valid ?
i just put my xperia in my bedroom and left with the ports opened, i hope the water inside my lcd can evaporate. I've the same problem with you, there are some silver blob below in my screen too, look like water behind the lcd. almost a week i never charge my phone, i'm afraid there will be shorting inside. so can i charge my xperia now ?
I put my iPod touch on the dash of my car for a day. It dried it out. No sign of water damage. It was in my pocket of shorts and my wife washed it in the laundry.

Yeah, but your iPod isn't held together by a heat-sensitive adhesive. The Xperia Z is. So that's not exactly the best idea...

Hey, don't mention it
Wow, that's funny. It's the same exact water indicator that's turned red on my phone.
The flaps on your phone could be faulty, and if they are, you are still under warranty. Next to your headphone flap, there is actually a Waterproof Test Hole, which Sony Service Centers use to test if your phone's waterproof capabilities are okay. The test hole can't be seen as there is a piece of plastic that covers it.
The thing is that it's more than likely that your phone will pass the waterproof test, and that your flaps came loose underwater when you were taking the video (pretty sure this is what happened to me as well).
Oh, and I can confirm that the silver blob is not water, but actually some sort of corrosion. It happened to my previous phone as well, and when I took it apart there was no water at in it at all.
Go ahead and charge it, you've got nothing to lose. Your warranty is void, and it's not like your phone will work without charge. Good luck!

Hi,
Just washed my gear 2 neo, in clean cold water right out of the tap, dried it with a towel, and it was stuck in a bootloop (like the home key got stuck) for about 5 mins, only after shaking it did it reboot normally.
Has this happened to anyone else??
Do I just have a dodgy Neo??
Its only 5 days since I purchased it, so should I request an in store replacement

Lol, it can be submerged in water at 1m depth for up to 30mins, a guy on YouTube put his in a tub for 5mins and it came out fine, so running water should not be an issue. Its fine now and on charge. First time since it's initial charge as well, so 4.5 days and was at 30% when started.
so the next time dont wonder why the watch will not work.

It is stated that a sheet of bullet resistant glass rated NIJ 1 can stop 9 mm bullet. Would you hold one up to your face and let someone test that?
The point is, just because the watch was designed to be water 'resistant' (not water proof) at 3 feet for 30 minutes, does not mean that it's not possible for it to get ruined. What if your seal was damaged by a drop on the floor, or perhaps a the gasket ring was damaged during assembly, etc..
"Shaking" the watch will not effect solid state electronics unless you have moisture or a faulty button (perhaps moisture?)
Well my lovely wife decided to clean her phone with soap and water this past weekend. Started acting funny shortly after. All ports were closed and no indicators changed color. First the power button was going crazy pressing itself.
The phone works fine now the problem is with the screen. When turning the screen on after sitting for a while its fine and then gradually changes to really white almost like a photo negative. It does it pretty quickly, within a second.
Would it be the LCD is messed up or is there any hope it will eventually dry oit?
Thanks
It sounds to me like water has got into the screen assembly somewhere.
My advice is to power off the phone, open all the flaps and leave it in a sealed bag with some dry rice for a few days. That may absorb any moisture that's trapped in the screen/phone.
If that doesn't work, then your best bet would be to try and get a repair done under warranty. If all the indicators are definitely still white, they should repair it free of charge.

I left it in rice overnight with no success. Gonna keep trying it. Definitely no doubt water got inside of it.
Now I bought the phone in July of last year so warranty is up.
I have insurance on it but have to pay $150 to get it replaced
Where do live? I live in the UK and have a 2 year warranty. Europe also has a 2 year statutory warranty by law. Maybe try contacting Sony to check the warranty expiry date before doing anything else.
If not, you need to leave it in the rice for a few days at least if not a week.
Good luck.

Alright thanks I live in the US, its a c6606. Reading through the little booklets in the box It says 1 year limited warranty from the date of purchase but doesn't give much details. I will try contacting Sony either way.

Today I was washing my Xperia Z, All ports were fully locked. I put my Xperia Z in a mug and then took off. I wiped with the cloth and then I used. It was working fine after few mints lcd suddenly blinks and brightness getting dim. I was worried that what's wrong I turned my phone off. After few mints I turned it on to check what happened. When I turn on the same thing happened screen blinking and getting dim and slowly getting very dim like I was unable to read my texts and contacts as well. I turned off again and turned on and its completely black out.
I am worried, Please help me out. The Phone charging perfectly, Everything working but I am unable to see becuase brightness is totally blackout.

Like most new phones op5 is basically glued together which provides some resistance to water.. so while I wouldn't worry about using the phone is light rain I still wouldn't trust it for underwater experiments. Water damage can also be tricky and start causing issues much later.
This video doesn't tell you anything. Oneplus tells you it isn't water resistant, so any potential water damage isn't covered by warranty. This experiment is the same as dropping the phone from 2 meters and having it not brake; it might happen, but it also might not. Do you want to take the risk?
nothing new here, you can find those kind of video from all oneplus devices and almost all popular phones.
My galaxy S3 was in a hot jacuzzi all night ( about 8 hours ), and after 3 years, it still working,
I drop many electronic devices in water, and it still working, even without the ingress protection.
Make sure to not power up the device before it's completely dry (about 2 weeks)
Op5 boards are probably IP ready, but the case is not sealed. You won't have any issue, until the oxydation is becoming bad.
The one plus is water resistant, however they didn't get it certified so people can't RMA for water damage. I think apple did something similar, the Nexus 6 is the same.
Although i wouldn't like to be the mug to test this theory.
That's pretty much how I'm looking at it. I won't stress if I get caught in the rain with it, but I'm not going to go swimming with it, either.
I can verify it's at least resistant to water. Dropped it in the sink three days ago. Got it up in about 5 seconds (it felt like 10 minutes, tho...). I quickly dried it with a hanky and then blow dried it. At first there was some glitching with the alert slider, but that went away after an hour. Now it's all good.

Water damage can show up weeks or months later. I hope your device isn't damaged, but I would definitely keep any non ipx7 or higher device away from water. Especially submersion.
