Exchange Active Sync Push 85030027 85030028 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Gday Guys,
I have setup push on exchange with sp2 and it works great. This is until I reset my pocketpc and it no longer works with one of the two errors above. If I delete the partnership using /mobileadmin and also on the device and setup again it works until I reset the device again.
Turning on and off flight mode doesn't seem to affect it but this is a real pain when needing to change sim cards to replace a empty battery.
Anythoughs or ideas?
Cheers
Joel

What shows up in your server's event log? You may not have the push logging turned on (it isn't on by default) so you may have to turn it on in system manager. Also look at your iis logs - is it trying to connect at all?
When does this happen? Is it triggered when a new email comes in or does it do it even when nothing is triggering a sync? Does syncing the old way work? (IE when you turn off push email and sync manually)
I can't seem to find those server activesync error codes anywhere so I don't what they relate to specifically.

Gday,
Nothing in Event log, have checked system manager but cant find where to turn logging on for push... Can you please help.
I have also reset the device to test again, Active Sync on the device doesn't even seem to open a GPRS connection after reset. If I kill the GPRS connection with out resetting it automatically re-establishes and there is no issue.
After a reset on the device if I hit SYNC after manually establishing a connection is still comes up with attention required, and one of the two errors above.
I am using a self issued cert which I have installed on the device but think this has something to do with it.
The error 85030027 = The Exchange Server requires certificates to log on. Connect your device to your PC on the corporate network to obtain a certificate.
Once connected I get
85030028 = Cannon obtain a valid certificate. To try again, please disconnect and reconnect your device to a PC on the corporate network. If this problem persists, please contact your network administrator.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again
Joel

Got it sussed... Heres the answer for anybody else who comes accross this..
In IIS Default Website... Right Click on Microsoft Server ActiveSync, goto Directory Security and change to Ingnore Client Certificates.
I have reset the device 3 times now and each time at startup it has auto sync changes.
Cheers

Don't worry about turning on logging..I think I know what it is.
I don't use ssl on my exchange servers, but I think this is related to a cert trust issue.
In the browser on your device, go to https://yourserver.com
Do you get prompted or does it go directly to whatever your default page is?
If you are prompted in any way, then it's a cert trust issue. There was a tool for WM2003 that would prevent the device from checking whether it trusts the cert, but that tool doesn't work on WM5. You'll have to edit the registry key for it.
I'll have to look for it, so go ahead and try hitting port 443 on your server from your device and see if you get prompted, and let me know.

It actually doesn't sound like a cert trust issue.
It sounds like the pocket pc is trying to use a certificate to authenticate itself (as opposed to a username and password).
It's probably an authentication problem in IIS. Make sure basic authentication is turned on for the virtual folder Microsoft-ActiveSync.

Hello,

cert issue wm5
I have this same issue and agree its a cert issue. How do i get my device to allow this cert by default. Its self signed so always will get prompted in i.e. first and have to use ssl by company policy
help..

just install the cert on the device and you can use SSL even if it's self-signed.

no matter what i do, i cannot get my companies VeriSign cert to properly sync with my device and exchange server. it always comes back saying the cert is invalid yet it's the exact same cert that i pulled from the server :\

A wipe might be required
I had to wipe my PDA to make the 85030028-error go away.
Notes:
I'm using a Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard).
I did try to enable certificate based authentication at one time, but reverted on the decision, since ISA Server can not forward user certificates.
I could not get my PDA to understand, that it should not try to use a certificate when synchronizing, even though this had been removed from the IIS. I could confirm the wrong setup in the dialog ActiveSync > Tools > Configure Server Source. I tried to delete the mobile device from from ActiveSync, tried to reboot the computer, tried to restart ActiveSync on the device, tried to restart the IIS service. It was only possible to go back to basic authentication by wiping the device. (I did not try to reboot the device.)
I'm using my own root certificate, that has not been certified by an official certificate authority. So I had to install my root certificate as a trusted root.

Activesync 4.0 and WM5

Been playing with Activesync and WM5 now for over 4 hours.
My findings are the following.
1) I have seem to have lost the partnership and only way to get it back was to flash the device again and create a new one.
2) I have seem to be able to establish a partnership as a Guest.
3) after refalshing I made a new parnership and connected, added my contacts and started to sync, well it started to look for changes and that was it.
4) My device gives network card gives me a Unable to obatin ip error and I have worked with both the Use Secific Ip and server asgined Ip.
So now I get the feeling that you cant sync with WM5 and outlook 2003 configured with a pst file.
Can anybody confirm that they have been able to download there contacts out of outlook (not server based)?
What is the trick for the network card set up on the device and the windows based mobile device network card on the desktop.
PS Yes I have XP SP2
I can confirm that it works. I did nothing special, it almost worked from the beginning. One thing, that it seems Outlook MUST be your default e-mail client when building a new partnership.
Activesync 4.0.0 b4343
Outllok 2003 (11.5608.5656)
Mamaich's patched wm5 rom + fixes
I also have no problems with outlook 2003 and AS4. Firewall or some other program can block the connection.
But I've setuped ActiveSync to sync directly with exchange server.

Good for u that u have an exchange srvr
Thanks for the feedback.
At this moment in time I will forget the Outlook sync and work on the connection to the device.
1) When I installed AS4 and attached my 1.40 device I was able to browse the device (and hence load the partion application).
2) When I upgraded to WM5 I have been unable to connect and if I can I can only get a conection as guest.
What do I see.
1) On connection for cradel a new network card is installed on my desktop, its is the "windows moble device" , configured to auto and since it finds no DHCP isntall an APIPA address and acts as a DHCP
2) On whatching the device in the network connections "Remote-Ndis-Host" Set to Auto I see under the IP address a mac address and then a APIA address which seems to be the same as the DHCP on the Desktop.
(Cant remember when I saw it).
So the device sometimes shows me connected (seen by the arrows at the top) sometimes comes up with Can't get an address. However the desktop AS4 is still connecting.
Seems that I have a conflict in the AIPA which should not be the case as that is not what it was built for.
I will try fix IP on both sides and bridging the netsworks, also turn off the firewall.
Find it hard to belive that I could see the device with AS4 and rom 1.40 and now cant with WM5.
Oh sorry, I actually forgot to turn off the fire wall. Everything is ok after I did that....
WM5 and AS4.0 are working seamlessly.......
I Had the same problem, after installing WM5 on both my XDA & XDAiis my ohone wouldnt connect to my desktop. I have AS4 installed on my notebook and that works fine. (it looks like the proble happens only on the PC used for installing WM).
I suggest removing AS4 and re-installing it.
Good luck
Well I will be dammed.
I turned off my firewall PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 on the computer that installed the rom and bingo.
So the firewall worked ok with the AS4 and 1.40 but not after upgrade WM5. Must be something new in the WM5 rom. The device says its connected the desktop only says its trying to connect.
Here are a few more things that I tried
Installed AS4 on my multi boot Laptop XPSp2 Partiion, had Windows firewall enabled all default settings, saw device and paired (did not have office so could only explorer device). And it worked
On Laptop XPSp2 partition were I installed WM5 and was able to connect to device with AS4 and rom 1.40 before the upgrade: I gave Device a fix Ip and Wireless Network connection on Laptop a fixed IP in a different network. Could ping both from PC but not connect with AS4. Tried to bridge the two networks (not that it was need) but did not help. Tried the same segement with fixed IP and still no luck.
Reinstalled AS4 many a time, reflashed it also many a time and still could not connect.
Well that was Fun... NOT
Hi @ all, when I'm trying to install AS4 on my Computer, I get the following error:
"Setup not complete. The wizard was interrupted before Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0 could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click Finish to exit the wizard."
I've tryed it on my computer and on my mobile computer. Both have a legal Windows XP with SP2 and all current updates from WindowsUpdate.
I can't find a conclusion, maybe someone can help me
Hi,
same problems as MDAIIIUser here.
I tried AS 4.0 on 2 different Notebooks and 1 Desktop PC. No problems with WM2003. Best result I was able to get was on a Notebook with XP Pro SP2. I could explore the device but no syncing anything.
The other 2 PS´s weren´t able to connect at all.
Any ideas ?
Greetz from Germany
TOM
Well my problem is that my active sync takes ages to sync the contact and calender. Well i do have 900+ contacts but with WM2003SE that used to take a couple of minutes. Can someone enlighten on this.
Thanks.
Hemant.
The answer is that unfortunately the Persistent Storage (Flash Memory) although a benefit in so much as it will stop you from losing all your data in the event of a battery drain is also 10x slower than RAM. This is where the database resides for Pocket Outlook and you will see the speed difference when doing large file operations such as this.
Don't panic too much as after the first sync it will probably not make a great difference to normal syncs which will only update a few items each time.
There are some great links for stuff on Persistent Storage over at buzz's site ->Here<-
Bebbo,
Thanks for ur reply. The thing is that even my first sync hasnt finished yet and it takes a lot of hours to sync each one. Anyway i am trying to finish this weekend.
Thanks.
Is there a possibility that as4 cannot sync contacts with outlook2002?
Because I just can sync files and media. Most important things like contacts,
calender, task etc. don't work. Am I the only one with this problem?
Same problem as told by MDAIIIuser
Dear MDA-IIIuser I am facing same problems as you have written in your letter.
I Tried to give IP address manually it did not work.
Desperately, I tried to reinstall Active Sync 3.8; it did not detect my PPC.
I was able to synchronize my contacts....every time when I hard reset but after that nothing,,,,,,,,
although the Icon of LAN card showing incoming and outgoing data it remains in the phase of "connecting".
I tried to bridge to LAN card, it did not work.
If you will get any solution please let us know..
Thanks..
Well I amanaged to sysnc my contacts and my problem was my own firewall PC-Cllin 2005 which I needed to turn off.
Fire wall??
I am using Zone Alarm Pro, I was thinking on this line....I turned of (I turned off the windows fire wall also)...but problem remain same
shall I uninstall Zone alarm and see the responses??????????? :? :?
Well I checked my device with AS4 XP2 with Firewall (its default) and I could see my device, I did not sync as I had no office on it.
I was able to see the device with AS4 and Rom 1.40 so some thing is different with WM5.
Anything to do with ports must be off, also make sure you are connected direct.
Try it for what its worth!
I am also having this problem. I have assigned my PPC to obtain a server assigned IP address since i am syncing with two device. Every time it syncs it gives me an error that the server couldnt assign IP. Any luck on that.
Also all those people having problems where your computer is not syncing outlook entries, here i what you can try to do. Open your Outlook 2003 and then click tools and then click detect and repair. Once it is finished you will see that it can sync your outlook entries now. I hope this helps.
This is because your outlook 2003 has to be the default mail client or it wont sync your entries. Again of the dirty tricks of M$.
Hi Guys,
I have a rather odd problem. I am using a WinXP SP1 laptop along with Norton Internet Secruity 2005.
I just purchased a jasjar and installed the activesync 4.0 program that came on the CD. When i begin to synchronise, i get the following message:
"You will only be able to sychronise files, folder and other non-Outlook items right now. If you want to synchronise email, calendar, notes, tasks, contacts, please disconnect the device, install and run Outlook and then synchronise again". Well the funny thing is outlook is already running and used to work fine with my PDA2k.
Outlook is my default client for all of the above. I even tried disabling the firewall, still no luck. Can you guys help me out here, its really bugging the hell outta me.
Appreciate any input.
Best Regards,
UD.

Help with Activesync 4.x and HTC Wizard - Cannot sync

I have an unlocked Cingular 8125 (i.e. HTC Wizard). I am currently 'connected' to my desktop but I am unable to sync. I have read many posts on here and elsewhere and I am unable to find an answer to my question.
Here are the pertinent facts.
I have Activesync 4.2 beta installed. No other PPC devices are on my system. I have deleted my partnership several times. I have installed and uninstalled the Activesync program. I have deleted the Activesync directories from my programs. I have emptied out my inbox.
I have soft reset more times than I can imagine (I have not hard reset as I am fearful that I will lock my 8125 and I do not have the unlock codes nor, from the posts, does that appear to be necessary).
My device is connected. It shows up as Windows Mobile Device #8 in the Network Adapters portion of the Device Manager in my control settings.
I can explore on my device.
The options for syncing are just not there. On my desktop or on the device I can hit 'sync' and nothing happens. Nothing.
I am just not sure what to do at this point.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Maybe stupid suggestion, but in the Active sync connection settings on your desktop pc, did you enable usb-connections? If not, try that, should help
Yes. In fact, I unplugged the 8125 from a USB hub and plugged it directly into the PC as I read that sometimes the hub can be a problem. I thought I said this the first time, but I had to retype my post.
It did sync the first time. I was in the process of installing third party software when it stopped working. I cannot sync nor install any software (or remove software) at this time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51649&highlight=
I cannot seem to be able to load that file. I can only Explore on my 8125. I can extract the .cab file to my desktop and I can copy the unextracted .cab file to the 8125 (or the extracted files) but I cannot install the program.
Any suggestions?
Have you made sure the correct things are checked under the properties for the network adapter?
"In the "Properties" Window, be sure to uncheck all check-boxes in the "This connection uses the following items:" list EXCEPT for:
* Client for Microsoft Networks
* File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
* Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
Reference this link for more suggestions:
http://pocketpccentral.net/help/as4_tshooting.html
I am still in the same state.
It 'connects' but will not sync.
Again:
I unistalled Activesync
I deleted the folder ...\programfiles\microsoftactivesyc and all the files
I cleared out my garbage can
I checked my firewall exceptions
I checked Norton antivirus and I am not running a firewall there
I checked the Network connections and made sure that the correct three boxes in the properties for the network remained checked
I plugged the device directly into the USB of the computer
I soft reset my device
I rebooted my computer
One thing I do note when checking the properties of the network connections is that windows refers to this as Windows Mobile Device #9. I have deleted all other devices so that only one device is showing up. I am not sure why it still finds this as device #9.
Questions:
Might this be an outlook problem? Should I try and repair outlook?
Might a hard-reset help me? One thing I cannot do even though I am 'connected' is install any programs. It gives me an error message everytime. I can, however, add files to the storage card (e.g. mapopolis maps).
I have an unlocked 8125. I am happy to do a hard reset but I am woried that I will have to unlock the phone again. Does anyone know if that is the case?
Can anyone help me please!
try to upgrade to the most updated ROM - 2.25
it worked 4 me.

activesync error 80072f78

I upgraded to dutty's 6.1
I can sync to desktop by usb and to exchange by internet, but I can't sync to exchange by usb and get error message 80072f78 -
any solutions
not trying to be rude or anything, but googling that error code came up with a wealth of info.
i know...
Thanks for answering;
I tried a) deleting proxy server - didn't work b) registry change - didn't work c) changing activ sync connection to internet from automatic - didn't work
It's stupid because I can sync to exchange via internet (just not via usb) so it's not a big deal - just annoying
I'm kind of stuck - more suggestions welcome
Heelppp - please
Are you running 4.5? Try uninstalling and reinstalling activesync.
If not, try this.
0x80072f78 but not the same circumstances
Hi
Hi
I tried searching for this error 0x80072f78 message and I don't seem to get this message under the same conditions listed in the posts that I've found. I am getting the message at random in PIE with either GPRS/3G or when connected by USB. I have no problems downloading mail but can't use anything else for data (google maps etc). It doesn't happen every time but is very spotty. ATT tech support was no help as usual. I applied the registry change in the posts that discuss this error in relation to USB/active sync only and it did nothing. I'm using the latest att rom.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I've followed all of the suggestions that I can for people that are having the problem with active sync only and that has done nothing. I still have the problem when connected to gprs/3g. I have yet to find someone else posting that has this problem with both.
Thanks
Well add me to that list then. A user I provide support for has an unmodified Hermes (yes I know this is the Kaiser forum) that was exhibiting this behaviour over the air. (But was fine over USB.)
It turned out that he had a proxy server configured on his 3G/GPRS internet connection (with T-Mobile) but that setting was no longer appropriate, due to changes made at the T-Mobile end. Switched off the proxy server setting and all was well again.

Thank the Lord for search functions - was having this exact issue and it was driving me NUTS! Anyway if you are having trouble syncing over gprs but not over USB then this is the fix! Thanks
Tasks Exchange
I get this error when tasks on my exchange (mail2web.com) account is active and my tasks on my AT&T Tilt is active. When I deactivate (options) the exchange tasks and the phone tasks, then activate only the phone tasks the error goes away.

BB Connect not working after upgrading ROM

Hi all, I have a problem with BB Connect on my TyTN II. I have BES and everything is working fine in the past.
I reinstalled the OS to my PDA over the weekend and reinstalled BB Connect & then I cannot send/receive emails. First I installed the cooked roms, and changed the AKU value to .0.4.2 (also tried .0.4.4). Then I reverted back to the factory ROM, and still have the same problem.
The little icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen shows 4 blue circles, which indicates the BB Services is connected.
Also, on the BB Connect settings, under Status, it says connected. In the Identity Tab, PIN, IMEI, & IP Address are all ok. But under email settings, the box is blank and it says "Email Settings Unavailable". Also under the Services tab, I can only see 3 services, Blackberry Internet browsing service, IPPP for BIBS & Provisioning.
This problem is weird because the Status is Connected, but somehow is not getting the email settings from the Blackberry server.
My company's IT is dealing with the operator's helpdesk and they are CLUELESS!!
I have tried to fix this by hardreset many times & installed many different ROM, and still cannot fix it (even when I revert back to the original ROM I used to have).
Pls can anyone help?
I have never provisioned a bbconnect device ota but always using activesync and the blackberry connect desktop.
Hi, sorry but I dont understand what you are trying to say?

I also had this a few times and our BES admin found that each time I had this problem my BES-account was ****ed up. The only way we got this working again was by re-creating the account on the bes server.
I'm not sure it's exactly the same in your situation but it sounds like. So maybe you want to give that one a try.
cheers
Sorry, I was a little too concise.
If you reinstalled as you said, then you have lost the original provisioning. For BES, you will have to install the Blackberry Connect desktop on a pc that has access to your exchange account that also has activesync installed also. You then connect the device to the pc and then provision it. As the previous replyer said, you may want to recreate the account on the BES server.
Again, afaik you cannot provision a bbc device ota for bes.
I will bet a dollar that you haven't properly sync'ed using the BB Desktop Connect.
Make sure that Outlook is running, start up BDC and "Configure Wireless".
If you do not, your phone doesn't have the settings to connect to your server. It can connect to the outside world, but then doesn't know where to go from there.
Hi all, thanks for the post, really appreciate it. I was searching a few days to try to find the answers.
I have asked my company to reset my activation to fix it, but tomorrow may try to get my IT to install the active sync & bbc connect desktop software. He was refusing to install it on my PC today.
Again, thanks and really appreciate the comments!!

Can't synch with Vista

Hi,
Sorry if this is a basic problem but I'm a newbie and having problems synching. I did post a while ago when my XDA died, but couldn't follow the instructions to resurrect it as it wouldn't sync.
Just had it replaced, and the new one won't synch. So I'm guessing that there must be something wrong with my Outlook or Mobile Device Centre settings.
MDC says that it is synching, but it takes only a split second and nothing gets transfered. I've tried synching only contacts or calendar (only one option) but still the same result.
Any suggestions most gratefully received.
More info needed.....
Howdy™
It would be helpfull to know what version of Windows Vista (32 bit, 64bit, home basic, home premium, etc....) as well as the version of Mobile Device Center you are using.
Now as far as your problem goes, it seems to me that the issue may well lie with the software on your PC as the issue has presented itself with 2 different devices with the same results. A common step for resolving software issues is to uninstall and then reinstall the program(s) in question. You can do this first for MDC and if the problem persists, then try doing the same with active sync as well. You can re-install the programs either from the Getting Started CD that came with your phone or from Microsoft's own website. Doing so should correct your issues with failing to sync.
I'm assuming you have already checked your personal firewall to make sure WMDC and its components are allowed to communicate.
Find scanpst.exe in your MS Office directory and run it against your mail file (you can get the location from the properties in Outlook). Then delete and recreate your partnership. Corruption in your PST or OST file can cause syncs to fail and is often overlooked.
If that doesn't work, post the error code that AS is reporting on the device.
One problem is that I don't get an error code. Active sync and MDC both say successful sync! I can see all the folders on the phone too.
I'm scanning PST files for errors, then will try again. I'll then try to uninstal and reinstal MDC and Active SYnc if there is still no joy.
Oh, and I've tried running with Firewall off and still the same problem.
I had a similar problem to this recently.
Have you checked the settings for the connection. I found that a proxy had been defined but wasn't needed.
Well, still no success guys.
I've reinstalled WMDC. Latest version at 6.1.6965. Active Sync won't load on Vista, replaced by WMDC. I've deleted partnership and re-paired.
I've run scanpst.exe and repaired the few faults.
I've turned firewall off.
Running Vista Home premium 32 bit.
The bloody thing THINKS it's sync'ed so no error codes, but nothing syncs over. Going proper crackers over this.

Where are the settings Dan? On the PC or the XDA?
Sorry; wrong about the codes. Nothing showing on the PC but on the XDA it says "server could not be reached" shows the code 0x80072EFF.
I think this is the same error code i was getting.
The setting is on the device, under settings / connections / connections "manage existing connections. Then choose te proxy settings tab and uncheck " use a proxy".
Dan
Thanks.
But.... Still not bloody working.
It must be something with my Outlook setup. Any ideas how I might test this out?
I don't know if you've flashed a new rom on it. My phone wouldn't synch when I flashed garmins dk2 rom but synched fine with all others. Try it on another Vista machine and see if it works. If it does, maybe reinstall outlook after saving your data.
