I am trying to get active sync to work over my bluetooth connection to my laptop. I have a partnership defined in the phone, serial port, com 6. I can connect to the phone from the laptop via the bluetooth connection manager. However, when I try and "connect via bluetooth" from the phone it tells me no partnership exists that can connect via bluetooth. However, one clearly does. I also try and connect to the phone over bluetooth from my laptop with active sync, and it just says it can't find the phone. ANy suggestions?
Thanks!
You need remove the partenership and re-pair with your PC from within Active Sync (using Connect via BT). You have to let ActiveSync handle the profile thing instead of manually setup COM port. Once you paired this way, you will see an ActiveSync profile listed for your PC on your phone. Don't try to outsmart ActiveSync. It's really dumb and only works according to its way.
Tried it
I tried that and its still not working. Same message from the phone. I dont see anywhere in activesyc though that has profiles. Am I missing something? Do i need a newer version of activesync? (I am running summiters latest rom 2.3 for cingular).
Did you remove profiles from both phone and PC. You don't want to manally set COM port connection. After pairing from ActiveSync, you PC will be listed with an ActiveSync Service option instead of Serial port option.

Nope. Still not working even with 4.1.
If you go to settings->Connections->Bluetooth->Devices, what are the services listed for your PC?

I got it working. Thanks for your help!
How did you get it working? I'm a new user and I have exactly the same problem. If I go to 'settings->Connections->Bluetooth->Devices' I see that Activesync is checked but handsfree is not checked.
I'm not able to connect, either. I go to connect via BT, setup a new partnership, exit back to activesync, and it still says the same - "cannot find an existing partnership that supports Activesync."

That is good. Now all you need to do it go to activeSync->menu->Connect via BT. You should see status dialog popup and it starts to connect. Make sure on your PC side, you allow the incoming BT connection and ActiveSync is set to allow connect through the COM port BT activesync is using.
no service on bluetooth, no device found
hi
If I go to 'settings->Connections->Bluetooth->Devices
I see no service.
If I try to pairing through active sync, no device found.

I'm trying to get my phone to connect to it...in any way...I used to be able to sync my phone (AT&T Tilt) via bluetooth, but now when I try, the phone gets user authorization, etc., (meaning IT can do what IT needs to), but WMDC does nothing.
Then, the sync fails, and the device says, "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer."
The problem...Windows Vista doesn't use ActiveSync of course...it uses the windows mobile device center.
When I try to connect via usb, then on the computer, a dealie pops up in the lower right for "safely removing hardware". It has HTC USB sync listed. My tilt tries to connect via usb, but it fails, saying the same thing, "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync...blah blah blah."
I don't even know why this is happening like this...I normally don't sync too often (since I normally use my phone alone), but I was trying to get a new radio on my phone to help with another problem (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365270&highlight=call+ended+00:00 )
but I can't even sync anything, so I can't use the tool to get the new radio on.

Put your phone into tri color mode and you will be able to flash.
Power button + Camera button (hold them) press stylus into reset. HOld all 3. Tri-color screen will appear.
have you got the update to the drivers for WMDC, mine didnt work before I downloaded this update, oh and just remember, in windows, if it does work, RESTART fixes a lot of problems!
where would the update for the drivers for WMDC be?
Change the setting in USB to PC, in settings, connection tab. Try it with advanced functionality on.
I've tried it both ways. With advanced functionality ON, then the PC doesn't even recognize the device HTC USB Sync.
With advanced fuctionality OFF, then the pc recognizes HTC USB Sync, Windows Mobile Device Center recognizes nothing, and then activesync fails with the message, "To synchronize, get activesync 4.5 blah blah blah"
I used the device with an XP virtual machine I had, and XP + activesync has no problems seeing the device. However, MICROSOFT OUTLOOK in the XP virtual machine cannot see the device, so I can't correctly sync emails, contacts, tasks, or calendar icons. When I tried, the only thing that happened was that it deleted all of my calendar items (AGAIN!) and then said that "ActiveSync cannot synchronize Email, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes because Outlook is not installed on Windows PC 3. To synchronize, disconnect the device, install and run Outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
Outlook IS installed in the XP vmware (windows PC 3)...but it can't see the device for some reason.
I decided in the end that I could go without a new radio. I'll just find a way to fix my problem in a different way

With it "on", its not a USB connection. Whilst it uses the USB lead, it actually creates an RNDIS connection which uses IP to communicate. The device and pc should create a small private IP network. If your device can't even be seen by the Vista PC when advanced is on, then there is something blocking IP traffic, like an over zealous firewall. Try turning the firewall off temporarily. Also try disconnecting the pc from any other network and then plugging the device in.
I assume you have run windows update in Vista to ensure that you have the latest version of WMDC 6.1
With advanced "off", the device is using a traditional USB connection. Try deleting any existing partnerships and try a different USB port.
i have a similar problem however when mobile device center starts up it just gets the standard stopped running vista message and trys to restart unsuccessfully!
This may help you out with your problems however cant seem to resolve mine

That's an interesting way of referring to it...the thing is...I currently do have my firewall off...would a router (dorm or home) block this? Because I have NEVER gotten advanced network fuctionality to ever work--when I was at home, my dad had a router set up and when I'm on campus, the dorm has a router on.
Even without it connected to any other network, it does not work. And I am using the latest WMDC 6.1 but still, it doesn't work.
The strange thing is...it works with ActiveSync in a Windows XP vmware machine (partially...it won't allow me to use outlook)...
Deleting existing partnerships deletes more stuff from my device deletes more stuff (my contacts and calendar are gone) -_-. Deleting existing partnerships on comp doesn't help..

What I did from there was I uninstalled the drviers that correspond with the HTC Sync USB and the advanced network functionality (it's near the bottom of the link), and then I restarted again...now I seem able to sync...
i was connecting fine until i enabled vistas firewall and then it wont stop syncing. if i disable it, it will sync. i went through the exceptions list to allow sync but it still wont sync anyone know a fix?
Mobile Device Centre was working fine for me until about a week ago. Then it just stopped working ! My device was ok because it would sync in XP SP3 without any problems, but not in Vista. I tried repairinng, uninstalling, reinstalling without any success, I tried Advance Network Functionality and still no luck. I also tried disabling my firewall and trying again and still NO !!!. After searching the internet and trying the above, I nearly gave up until I decided to do the following :-
REMOVE ALL drivers related to the device i.e MS RNDIS adapter from network adapters in device manager AND the HTC USB drivers which are created when the device is connected while the Advance Network Functionality button is unchecked on your device (within settings -> Connections -> USB to PC )
UNINSTALL windows mobile device centre
DISABLE your firewall
INSTALL windows mobile device centre 6.1 (downloaded from MS)
connect your device - ensure the Advance Network Functionality button is checked
CONNECT device, let the drivers load and it should be ready to sync
ENABLE your firewall
The above method was the way it worked for me after trying numerous methods. Looking back, I believe my problem started when I unchecked Advance Network Functionality for some reason !

I don't think it's possible to get Advanced Networking Functionality to work with a Bluetooth Connection, only through USB. Even then it has to be a high quality USB port it's plugged into. My case is a good example in that I couldn't enable Advanced Networking Functionality or Activesync simply wouldn't connect. Since I was having unreliable connections from my VIA chipset old as the hills USB 1.1 motherboard ports, I installed a quality NEC chipset USB 2.0 Hi-Speed PCI adapter card and now on the same machine I can run USB Activesync connections with either option perfectly well and it stays connected until I unplug the phone. How are your USB ports?
uninstall active sync then reinstall. that is what worked for me.
Have Windows XP SP3 and Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
Problem is that the ActiveSync will not connect to the Diamond via USB. These are the symptoms on connecting the USB cable:-
1) The "Connect to PC" window pops up on the Diamond, asking whether I would like to ActiveSync (sync with Outlook) or Disk Drive.
2) I choose either one and Diamond pops a dialog to declare that the device is connected.
3) ActiveSync on my pc goes into a "connecting..." attempt, but eventually throws out a "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile powered device" msg.
4) Diamond goes back into its Today screen, nothing happens.
I have tried :
1) disabling/uninstalling my firewall
2) checking/unchecking the Start->Settings->Connection->USB to PC->
"Enable advance network functionality" checkbox
3) Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2
4) a fresh install of windows.
****while I was at this I did manage to get ActiveSync to respond/connect seemingly for a while, during which I recall she popped up a msg saying that since I don't have MS Outlook installed, if I do proceed I can't sync contacts etc. I clicked cancel thinking I should install MS Outlook first since I do want to sync contacts, and I never managed to see this msg again****
Sorry for the lengthy post, appreciate any responses/help from gurus; noob.
I had the same problem with u also at 1st than reinstall Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
& tick Enable Advance network functionality
now ok liao
think u got to restart pc after u install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
Thanks but doesn't solve my problem, still.
Can I check what does you guys' Diamond show up as under Control Panel->System->Device Manager? If you look under Network Adaptors does it show up? Mine only shows up under Windows CE USB Devices->Pocket PC USB Sync. I recall that it should show up under Newwork Adaptors too?

hello..i have the same problem..regardless of what i try it just wont sync..doesnt even
register ive connected my phone..installed..uninstalled..restarted the lot..so any ideas ?
i'm having similar problem. i'm using win xp sp2 and active sync 4.5. when i plugged my diamond to usb, the pc just showed "usb device not recognized" and it was recognized as "unknown device" in device manager.
i tried to uninstall the "unknown device" and reconnect diamond again. it worked but only once. after disconnect and reconnect again, it failed
i've tried using same cable and port for cruise and everything went smooth. dunno what it is...
replying back to my own thread.... i eventually managed to get it to work simply by changing the USB port I was using, not sure why at all.
I just got my diamond connected to my pc successfully. I simply used another usb cable.
Seems diamond is more sensitive to cable quality than other HTC devices.
HTC Diamond, problems with Windows Vista
I have so much problems syncing the Vista with the HTC Diamond. It took me one whole night and the program shows that it is halfway through the hotsync but nothing else happens. Uninstall and reinstall the Active sync programme on my Vista several times. Finally it works. The next day when I did a hotsync with my office computer nothing happens. After that when I got home Vista does not sync with my Diamond again. I do not know the problem is with Vista or my HTC Diamond... I wasted so much time troubleshooting..
I've found the solution. It had nothing to do with
Vista or with WMDC 6.1 it was a setting on my HTC S710. I removed the
following setting:
Step 1: Press Start
Step 2: Select settings
Step 3: Select (6) Connections
Step 4: Select (0) More
Step 5: Select (1) USB to PC
Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems
connecting ActiveSync.
Step 6: Disable the option - Enable advanced network functionality
Step 7: Press done 3 times
Step 8: Return to main screen.
Step 9: Uninstall unrecognized USB device in device manager (on PC)
Step 10: reboot Phone and reconnect
Hi, in my case it was the USB cable. I replaced the one I used for all my other WM devices before and now even the Diamond can connect.
Cheers,
Derek.
PS: problem and solution seen on both Vista and XP

Work for me too.
Tnx!
Hmm for those that tried and suddenly u got it once, but after that u disconnect and it disappear dont do anything extra!!!
Cos i got the same problem too! instead try to connect and remove it till u get it to sync again. It takes me the most 2 tries to get it to sync though..but if u try like maybe 5-6 times and it dont work..then i cant help sorry.
Btw i'm on Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.
This was what actually happened...i post this in another forum where people are having problems too.
"Hmm me having problems with syncing HTC diamond just now also. I'm on Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I downloaded and installed the Window Mobile Device Centre(WMDC) 6.1 as they asked me to. WinXP its AutoSync 4.5. I connect and kind of expected this stupid syncing problems will happen to me like many others..zz.
I keep on trying to play with the checkbox in the USB to PC settings(To go there its Start>Settings>Connection Tab>USB To PC), people were saying if u uncheck the box it will sync already. But now my box is checked and it still can sync
Finally i got really fed up and piss..so i uninstall the stupid WMDC program totally without even plugging out the USB cable from my Diamond. Then i restart my pc, and i went to restore the USB to PC settings to ActiveSync with the tick in the checkbox. When Vista startup, i went for 1 last try haha...i just connect the diamond to my PC via the usb cable, and wow all the drivers start to install...and it sync LOL!!! And i go to control panel and was puzzled when WMDC was there even though i uninstalled it !!
And now its just sometimes i plugin it never detect but if i plug in and out ard 1-2times again it sync! I'm a happy man now"

Yes - that's it.
I had the same problems - ActiveSync worked worser and worser - and last week no synchronisation was possible at all.
ActiveSync doesn't open or when it's opened - the PC-ActiveSync stayed grey...
Now - new Cable - not from HTC - and it works fine from the first time on

I'm using XP SP3, ActiveSync 4.5.0 and it works fine. Of course after UNticking (disabling) the advanced network functionality. This advanced network functionality is designed for Vista, not for XP&ActiveSync.
Device manager:
In Device Manager I have the device listed with a separate entry directly from the root called "Windows CE USB Devices" and not under Network or other section. The driver provider is Microsoft and driver version is 4.0.4232.0 (06.10.2004). The driver file is wceusbsh.sys.
See the attached files.
I just don't remember from where I downloaded the driver, but for sure I did not used a CD/DVD delivered with Diamond.
issues synchronising
so i'm using activesync 4.5 with XP SP2 (i think) and i cant get my device to synchronise.
i connect it to the computer and it connects perfectly (i can explore the device and install files on it from my comp and all). It then starts trying to sync, however it never does. After an extended period of time it says "waiting for network" and then just stops synchronising - without actaully syncing any of my files! on the device it says "the server could not be reached. This could be caused by temporary network conditions" as the result and gives a support code of 0x80072EFF. it reports nothing ever synced.
It syncs with another computer in the house nicely -the comp is however ancient and we are getting rid of it! I'm sure its just a setting but i cant find it! Anyone?
Cheers guys!
Issue solved!
Not to worry i found the issue!
if this happens to anyone else this is the fix i found
"Fellow frustrated users I have worked out this issue. What happens is if you restore your computer or change files or link to another computer, Activesync creates multiple datasets on the device which must confuse the program.
With the phone disconnected from the computer, open Programs, ActiveSync, Menu, Options. If you use the scroll down bar, you will find all the datasets. I deleted all the datasets and let ActiveSync create a fresh connection."
When i connect my phone to my pc via usb, the activesync is constatly saying synchronising when its doing nothing and even where i have not set anything to sync in the set up it still does that, but i seems to work when i connect via bluetooth, but then there is the issue of the phone constatly disconnecting from activesync after a while when using bluttooth. I've tried reinstalling activesync, hard reseting my phone, lot changed usb ports and cable but still it keep saying synchronising.
If your phone doesn't need to sync any info, I would suggest you remove the partnership between the phone and your PC.
PC => open ActiveSync => open 'file menu' => delete mobile device
or
PPC => Activesync => menu 'options' => delete the PC
You will still be able to browse through the files and use apps like CABviaActiveSync.
Hi all,
My HTC diamond that used to sync with active sync on win xp wont connect to my visat home premium laptop.
I've tried tweaking the firewall (even turning it off) and still no luck - both norton and windows firewall
Tried the dvmgmt.msc things too with no luck
Any other ideas??
anyone?
I found that problem too.
Go to task manager and close instances of mobile device centre and Windows Media as this seems to play havoc with USB sync.
Take your device off of the USB cable, fire up a fresh instance of WINMO device centre and it should detect it (after selecting 'ActiveSync' on your device).
Good luck
Jamie
what I have had to do is delete the diamond profile with out the diamond connected. restart your diamond then reconnect. I think it is a problem between activesynch in xp and winmo in vista. But I have kaiser which I use for work and I have no problems connecting to activesynch or winmo.. go figure...also if you have tasks selected it won't finish synching for some reason god knows why.......
Worked for me
Try going into the "USB to PC" settings on your phone and unchecking "Advanced Network Functionality". I couldn't connect in vista before disabling that.
Hello,
I've never managed to get my Diamond sync'd with my Vista laptop using a cable but if I use bluetooth then it always seems to connect so if you have bluetooth on your pc then i'd try that and see if it works.
I tried all the usual fixes including those listed above me and none of them worked. Then I read somewhere to uninstall device center go to microsoft and dl the latest version and then install it with the phone connected. That one worked.
How do you delete the profile? will I lose data doing so? same issue with my Touch Pro. uninstalled WMDC re-installed it. re-set all of the TP settings to factory(without restoring). Still doesn't work. Any other ideas?
