I have Tmobile MDA (locked to this network both ways and GSM and CID) - and I am wondering is there someone in the good mood to explain what do I need to do to have Windows Mobile 6.0 on my phone?
My ROM version is 2.26.10.2 wwe ...
So, like what I need to do first - GSM unlock, then CID, then what ROM I need to install and where to find it?

Ciao,
this is what you have to do:
1) Check whether your phone is G3 or G4 (reset and look at IPL/SPL version: 2.xx.0001->G4; 2.xx->G3)
2) If it is G4: you cannot CID unlock it. To install a different rom, then, you must follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043
3) If it is G3 AND rom version is >= 2.21 (equal or greater than 2.21): cannot be CID unlocked, use the same tutorial as for G4.
4) If it is G3 AND rom version is < 2.21 (minor than 2.21): follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=263116 to learn how to downgrade the rom and CID unlock the phone.

MDA ROM Questions

I have a couple of follow-up questions:
Background: My T-Mo (USA) MDA has SPL/IPL 2.26, OS 2.26.10.2 (determined as per your advice). I'd like to install a different "unrestricted" ROM (mainly to get access to JAVA and to impove performance).
Here are the questions:
1. The current ROM (2.26) is not the original software of my MDA: it's the official update released by T-Mo a couple of months ago (I installed it myself). I don't know by now what was the orginal version. It was probably a much earlier version, perhaps 1.17. So, my first question is: does it matter what the original version was, or it only matters what the current version is? Can I fry the phone if I follow your advice for case 3?
2. T-Mo unlocked the phone for me (they do it for its customers after a while). However, I don't know if it's been both SIM-unlocked and CID-unlocked; or just SIM-unlocked. How do I find out? I did run lokiwiz on it (just in case) but I have no idea if it succeded.
3. After running lokiwiz, I tried to install QTek 9100 ROM with push mail, shipping (I found it on the web, and it claimed to be for a shipping QTeck; so, I thought it's a pretty safe ROM). It states that its version is 2.17.7.102. However, the installation failed: it got to the three-colored screen and stopped there. The device is OK though (after soft reset), just runs the previous software 2.26. What does it tell us? And does it make sense at all to "upgrade" to a lower version just to get an unlocked JAVA-running device? Or you'd recommend a different ROM (which one?)?

Does the problem appears after I upgrade the ROM version to 2.26 (t-mobile)?
Current version is 1.7.13

Some have reported that they have used IMEI with the G4 successfully.

i've read a lot of threads on this forum and posted here and there but haven't got the answers I need to start messing with my phone.
could someone please help me out and give some advice?
I have a CID & SIM locked Dutch MDA Vario G3 with IPL/SPL at 2.21
I would really like to upgrade my ROM for getting rid of the tmobile stuff AND speed it up.
I'd like to know the following:
1) Can I upgrade a locked DUTCH vario to the Official tmobile 2.26 USA software without hacking or is this prevented as well?
2) I read stories about CID unlocking a G3 2.21 being possible AND being Impossible ..... which is it?
3) Can I downgrade my phone SAFELY to the custom ROM on this forum, I read about success stories but not for everyone .... what makes it work sometimes and does it matter that it will downgrade the IPL but NOT the SPL?
4) Can I or can I NOT just flash a G4 ROM over my G3 phone and leave the locked IPL/SPL as it is?
5) is there a disadvantage to NOT unlocking it and just flash a G4 ROM? what would I be missing out on? can I upgrade to 2.26 official and then flash a G4 ROM and have the same end result?
please help me out on this, I am ready to flash my phone but would not like to brick it since it is just a month old.

i trie craptree's guide, and I can read back all relevant data from my locked vario, at 2.21 I just can't write it back, so that's a nogo either.

you can use shelltool to upgrade without unlocking..

I'm so sorry if this annoys anyone. But I have spent lots of time - almost a month figuring out how and what to do. But I have no clues as yet. Please help me.
1. I have a HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125)
2. Sim unlocked
3. Original WM5
4. CID locked
5. G4
6. Windows Vista on PC
Can anyone tell me how to upgrade?
Steps I know -
1. CID to be unlocked. How I dont know? Since I'm using Vista
2. Flash a downgrade rom??? sorry no clue on this one. which version is needed?
3. Flash a upgrade rom??? sorry again no clue which version to flash
4. I'm no longer using my original mobile carrier service. Is there generic radio rom? or do i need to install a cingular radio rom again?
Few other imp questions-
1. Do I need to install extended rom?
2. Do I need to install any other tools after installing WM6?
3. I would like to install the basic original WM6 version, not customized.
4. Can I flash back to my original state? WM5?

Just check your device if it is G3 or G4, then either Unlock or HardSPL/SoftSPL your device and flash one of the Wizard English WM5/WM6 ROMs available.

plz I'm new andi dont know how to know my device is G3 or G4 and i download official `ROM 2.16 WWE but when i begin update hi wrote that
"INVALID VENDOR ID"
plz help!!!
ok i think my deice is G3 bucause when i sturt up my device ISP/SPL is 2.16. is this G3???
You DID NOT CID unlock your device.

If you have downloaded official Rom from it's website and still can't upgrade then use the 'ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID' replace it with the ruu in the official rom,you can get this from the below link.:-

i,ll try to update but language is still russian an ROM is still same.
I download thes file: RUU_NoID.exe, then i download an oficial ROM, then i replace the original ROM's RUU with RUU_NoID. operation begin, but after and of this nothing change.
ha can i change language for English? can anyone help me an give me a links of this files vich i can use???
my IPL/SPL is 2.16 and i think it is G3???

Well,I'll suggest you go for the second option,unlock your phone and upgrade to any latest wm6 custom build Roms.Once you get your phone unlocked,it stays unlocked and gives you the opportunity to keep on upgrading to the latest Roms and features.Read the stickies on unlocking and upgrading and do it correctly,I'm sure you'll have much more benefits and enjoyment.

ok,grrrrrr8,if you have managed to downgrade to ipl/spl 1.xx,its time to SIM/CID unlock the phone,read the 'definitive guide for unlocking by Dr.Puttingham and download the lokiwiz-2b tool and do the method exactly as stated in the guide to Sim/CID unlock your phone,after successful unlock upgrade to ipl/spl 2.xx by downloading and flashing T-mobile 2.26 to the phone,only then you can upgrade to any latest wm6 rom,as its required to have CID unlocked phone and ipl/spl 2.xx for upgrade to wm6.
