what tom tom version can spv m700 run? - P3600 Software Upgrading

hi guys what tom tom version can my spv m700 run, orange rom. thanks

pretty much any if you get the settings right,
However I assume you mean which flavour? In which case you Want Tom Tom Mobile (PocketPC Device), and Version 6.03 and higher have built in receiver as an option, so you need no settings for it, just select that option and go stand in the garden, to let it get it's first fix, otherwise it may look like there is no GPS fitted

All true if you've got GPS enabled radio (mine wasn't). Check if it ends with .11 in settings>system>device info.

tomtom works on my aussie D810 with the same rom...
I set the GPS reciever to other NMEA GPS reciever.
coldstart it can take a minute or more to find the signal.
try standing outside in a area with a good wide view of the sky, or even driving round.

Depending on the version of/locked files (Search forum) TOMTOM, you might need to configure it each time.
In 6.02 and below you need to select the NEMA (or whatever its called).
In 6.03 they have a selection of inbuilt GPS device. I Found 6.03 much less hassle to be honest.
how do i get 6.03 please

Are you outside with clear view to the sky? Wait 15 Minutes there! It WILL work.
You're on the right track with GPS on COM9 if you are not using version 6.03. If you get as far as "No valid GPS signal" message then that means your GPS receiver is tracking satellites ok and you're just not getting a GPS fix. I had the exact same problem as you.
1) Just restart your d810 (stylus into the small hole on the underside of your dopod )
2) Start your TomTom and use the same setup as you did before with NMEA.
3) Select GPS on COM9
4) When you get the "No valid GPS signal" message stand outside where there is lots of open sky (if you're in the city... tough luck it would be really hard to get a GPS fix there).
5) Be prepared to wait for up to 15 minutes until you get a GPS fix. Mine took more than 10 minutes.
Got it working plus more
Thanks guys you have been a great help
i updated my tomtom software it was easy
as advised i went to here
http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17
installed home software
then went to this site and followed its instructions
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=6736&Lid=1
and installed tomtom home plus on my computer
tomtom home is excellent for anyone that does not have it, its free and a must have.
tomtom home then updated all my software and gave me free some cool new stuff.
after this did as you said went outside three minutes it was up
thanks i hope this helps others
now if i can only try to see if i can modify my 838 to do this aswell
i know the 838's don't have gps connected inside unit but has anyone opened one up and connected it.
I currently have 4 brand new dopod 810s and 4 dopod 838's i will have to sell some as we just got given them and some people oready had them before we got given them.
they were given to you? wow! give them away too. throw one my way

Are any of you guys with optus? I really want to wait for the official GPS rom from dopod but i dunno what these guys are doing, there has been all these claims of new roms coming out but no substance.
Which rom updates are you using? Any problems with the aussie networks?
Viperx,
Im using this rom. its the offical rom, but it hasnt been released on the dopod asia site for autralian customers as yet. I think I downloaded it from this forum ftp, cant recall now. works great with 3 so far, haven found any bugs. The only thing I fixed since the update was the bass (again that was found on this forum).

Hi
Hi,
I set GPs Program port COM9, hardware port COM 0.
I selected other NMEA GPS receiver and other bluetooth GPS receiver and selected GPS Device on COM9, but it says NO GPS device. What should I do. I'm really frustrated. any help will be appreciated.

What GPS software package are you guys thinking of using?

Well, I am all prepared to buy the Kaiser when it hits the market. I am already looking at the GPS software packages out there for my Kaiser (hopefully GPS is not locked to Telenav). Even if it is locked, I am pretty sure all the good cooks out here will modify the ROM to fix this. What are you all thinking about using?
I've been using Route 66 on my Wizard and it works quite well. DeLorme Pocket Street Atlas is OK but the maps and routing aren't as good.
Lots of people swear by TomTom, and a few reviewers/testers have used it on their pre-production Kaisers. Both semsons.com & buygpsnow.com have a wide selection of GPS software packages.
I use tomtom and find it great.
i think ill also use tomtom. which one is the best?
ive never owned a gps device, so that's the only software ive really heard of..
I've been using OCN6 with my Wizard. . . anxious to see if it works with the Kaiser/8925/Tilt.
Route66 for me. I want my traffic information without having to pay a subscription...
Only thing that could be improved is the frequency of the map updates, where TomTom is the clear winner, but I've had no problems with my R66 map accuracy so far.
regarding the GPS:
Does anyone of you know wether there is GPS Software that could pull images from google maps?
Like a "show me satellite image of my current location" - button?
I think that would be really cool, but does it already exist?
And secondly, I'm looking for a GPS - Software that runs in the background and logs the GPS coordinates in order to geotag photos from my digicam later. Any recommendations here?
Try Mapopolis...
I use Mapopolis and it works and looks great on my ETEN X500+ VGA device. I'll use it when I get the Kaiser too. The resolution will go down but I still love the program.
Mapopolis has a GPS TRAIL option that logs your trip at preset intervals (every 5 minutes, 5 miles or whatever). All you have to do then is use the Location SMS feature of WM6 with pictures attached at capture the places you want. From there, you can create a nice Trip Photo Album with coordinates or send the trip via email.
TEC
I can't really compare software as I have only used Tomtom, but I have always found the program great and have never felt tempted to even try another software package because it has always worked so well.
With my 8525 I purchased the Garmin Mobile 10 which is this awesome little gps receiver that fits in your palm. It's bluetooth and all I do is put the tiny thing in my pocket. It uses Garmin software and works amazingly well. I'm wondering whether this would be MORE accurate than the built in GPS receiver in the Kaiser. If this is more accurate then I'll keep on using it but if the 8925 works just as well then I'll probably sell the garmin.

Wow great find. The downside to this software though is it requires an internet connection to connect to google when planning routes. So, if you don't have coverage then youre going to get lost.
MDA Vario III
The Vario III will be coming with CoPilot out of the box (there are having alot of problems in the testing of this cant cant make it work) they are also having problems gettin the WiFi stay on. So all you UK users who are after the Vario III (me included) will be waiting till the start of Oct

Says here its coming with tom tom taster version
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/wi...tytn-ii-europe-ultimate-mobile-companion.html
I'll be using iGuidance, as it's what I'm using now on my Hermes...
I'll be using TomTom Nav 6. It also has a satelite download but I've never used it.
I just got my TyTN II and installed iguidance 3.0.1.
It doesn't actually start most of the time. It appears to run once after a reboot but then not again.
I can see the exe in the process list but the app is not actually running. or never finishes starting.
So maybe i will give tom tom a try. LOL
Edit: Oh actually i ran it and waited 10 minutes and the program actually launched.. so there are definitely a few issues.

Actually, I'd love if someone with a Kaiser would try Mapopolis - just load the Los Angeles, USA map and see if it's usable. My Hermes dogs out completely at high zoom levels - I'm presuming due to only 64MB of memory vs the 128MB in my old iPAQ 5555. (By "dogs out" I mean drag-panning the map is extremely jerky and category searches take near to a minute!)
Mapopolis' POI management is second to none, and it's had text-to-speech for ages. TomTom v6.030 is the latest PocketPC version I've found and it still has no text-to-speech, won't allow you to add your own POIs to the canned categories, etc.

TomTom - does it work OK?

I've been asked whether it's working OK on the Kaiser (and its rebranded versions). As I've run into diametrically opposing reports, I've found it the best to start a new thread so that I can see whether it works or not.
Yes it does work, well on the Vario III incarnation it does. I have had 6.0 running and now I've installed 6.030 which is also running perfectly
Works fine on my HTC branded phone, running 6.032 now
Version 6.032 ships with the TyTN II and works fantastic as it directly supports the internal GPS!
Works great for me out of the box. Vodafone v1615 and V6.032.
Had to buy a full UK map and that installed OK.
Hope this helps
Works perfect on my unbranded HTC Tytn II... no configuration and stuff needed...
The only thing I've found is that it won't work with some of the newer maps.
I am running a v660 map but I couldn't get a newer (675) version to work.
Anyone able to use newer than 660 on a TyTn II?
Thanks guys and gals; highly appreciated
i have maps 675 working uk n ireland map.

I'm running 6.010 on my Tilt with no issues. I just chose 'other nema gps' for my adapter and set the com4 and 4800 baud.
Works like a champ.

Why do you use an adapter and not the internal GPS radio built into the Tilt?
I have TomTom working on my Tilt (still evaluating with freebie map) using the internal radio. Works good but certain features are turned off (i.e., sound) in the evaluation version. TomTom looks to be much better and more user friendly than Telenav.

I never said I was using an external adapter. I said "other nema gps" SETTING which is in the options. That is because the 6.010 version does not have Internal GPS as an option so I have to specify the comm settings for my device.
v6.030 with v675 maps works flawlessly on my Orange TyTn II.
TomTom Maps 50% Off
For anyone who doesn't yet have the TomTom maps, it appears they are 50% off today. Not sure how long this sale price will last.
Question for you guys..... I purchasing a Tytn II on the internet, and i asuming it will come with TomTom, but mind dose not.
Just want to know where did you guys purchasing your TytnII??? I live in USA, and using Tmobile...it is suck they do not have the 3G ...... I wish it will have it soon.....
I only have a couple of problems.
1. If I minimize TT by pressing the side OK button then try to click on something in the corners (volume, start menu) then TT comes back forward.
2. Sometimes it takes quite a few minutes for TT to connect to the GPS.
Besides these minimal problems, I love not having to carry around a separate GPS unit.
My Tilt did not come with TomTom but after a a great deal of searching and reading the forums here, I ordered it from Amazon. I wanted a GPS solution that was independent of a data feed (I have no data plan since most all of my stops have wi-fi access.....and I'm cheap).
Installation to the computer was very simple. Setting up the device worked the first attempt (likely because I had read about which settings to chose here on the forum). Registering the software was not exactly intuitive (I attempted to use the product number provided in the box.....which it turned out to be only used online to get the actual activation number from tomtom).
Running TomTom Home 1.5v106 on the computer and 6.010 on my Tilt.
I can pull a good signal even indoors at home. In-car performace in poor (without an external antena). But all works like a charm on my Harley, where the driving instructions are played thru the stereo speakers.
The only thing that appears to be lacking (or I just haven't found it yet) is the ability to plan routes on the computer and upload them to the Tilt. But I've had no problems planning routes directly on the device itself.

Same problem here- if I have the phone on mute, I can't minimize TomTom to turn up the volume, as TT seems to hog control of the touchscreen in WM6. This wasn't a problem in WM5. I'm eagerly awaiting the next release of TomTom.

Tom Tom v6 Navigator - OK with Kaiser?

Hi All - I can see a few post about the above software. Tom Tom are saying that V6 Navigator is not officially compatible with the Kaiser. Can I assume because there are manly positive posts about it here that it DOES work OK on the device?
I'm with O2 and although they sell (and I've bought) 'Co-Pilot', I been having a few problems with it triggering the message 'the server has been reset...blah...blah...all your data needs to be resynchronised' when I try and sync the device with Outlook. The resyncing is a L-o-n-g process and it wipes out all my quick dials too - ouch!) Co-Pilot Support have confirmed it's a known problem on some devices..so I'm not looking to fix this as O2 are sending me a credit)
Thanks
I got the "o2 Stellar" yesterday and TomTom 6 works fine.. Just find which com port the GPS is assigned to in Start -> Settings -> External GPS .. Then just assign TomTom to that com port via the configuration - I used "Other NMEA GPS Receiver" but I dont think it matters which option you choose aslong as you choose the right port.
TomTom 6 works brilliantly well on my "Stellar".
Got TomTom working on my AT&T Tilt. Pick other GPS receiver, Baud 9600, COM4.
Well, seeing as HTC sell the Tytn II with a trial version of Tomtom, you would rather expect it to work!
Got tomtom v6 working perfectly fine on my tilt with duttys v3 rom. Like posted above, most likely its com 4. Initial start takes about 30 seconds but after that full blast reception.

The Tytn II ships with a "Taster" edition of TomTom 6 (version 6.032). Thus I expect TomTom support the platform
Actually I have a "Pukka" copy of the "Navigator 6 software and maps of western Europe", and have raised a few calls about the software (the version on my CD shipped with V6.010, so I asked for latest specifying my exact device, and was pointed to the "downloads" area of tomtom website (version 6.030 is there))

T-Mobile now offer Co-Pilot with its Tytn II varient (MDA Vario III)
Having had a quick "play" with a co-pilot system, it looked fancier (and has a better "Licensing" policy than tomtom) however I preferred the TomTom software (my Girlfriend has an old TomTom Go)
I have TomTom traffic and Safety camera's options purchase and find these excellent
If you can test co-pilot you might prefer it. I preferred tomtom
Always worked flawlessly on my HTC Kaiser, never messed with gps settings either

true... plus, there's always *other* ways of getting TOMTOM
Older version also works, but the 6.032 has "Build-in GPS receiver" option. In older you need to manually set it up as other NMEA receiver. In Poland EraGSM (soon to be T-Mobile) provide Vario III with full version of TT6 with regional maps.
I'm running TomTom that's "for the Trinity" from HTC e-club. I used the same thing on my Trinity and it auto picked up the internal, and has internal GPS setting. On my Tilt, this option is not available, but picked other, baud 9600, com 4 and it works nice and fast

Thanks Duncstar for your help. Especially as you're an O2 user in the UK too Thanks also to everyone else who offered advice and pointed me in the right direction. I did read some stuff about 'maps not showing up'. Duncstar - Did yours work literally 'straight out of the box'?
I have an imported Kaiser here in the US. Tom Tom works perfectly. I bought the usa/canada maps from amazon for $125. Installed it and no issues. I did have to select the gps, used 57,000 baud, com 4 and it's great.
There's also a "quick gps" application on your phone. Use it to help zero in the gps even better. It wants to run once a week.
I also bought and installed the Mr. T voice and I'm officially the biggest nerd on my block now. Turn Right Sucka!
Oh yeah, I"m not sure which version of TT6 was on my kaiser. When I installed the purchased software, it loaded up version 6.010. I had to go to tom tom's website and download the 6.030 version.

Orange Maps

How do you get this back on, after flashing a HTC rom?
Thanks.
Browse to Orange World on your phone and download the app. Personally, I think its a load of crap myself and with A-GPS, its a license to print money.
Got myself a Touch 3G free from Orange on Thursday, and got stung on data with their so-called "Unique" service, plus we all know what Orange are like for shoving their own crappy firmware on phones, disabling features, and forcing people to gorp at their abismal orange and grey customisation!!
Well, I soon put paid to that, my friend.....
Now running the 2.32 olinex loader, Official European (debranded) 2.33 firmware, with SPB Mobile Shell 3.01 over the top, and TomTom v7.9 for my sat nav. Also got an 8GB card coming on Monday, so happy days are here again...

Yes, do tell. I am running 2.32 I think, from the ROM page here.
Where did you get Tom Tom from? It can't be purchased on their web site as a download. It comes on its own card which is pointless as I've already got one.
If you access the Orange website, it doesn't allow downloading as says not valid phone or something like that ...
Quick GPS?? Whats use?
Hello,
I did HSPL and got rid of Orange Unique. I am unaware of using GPS navigation. Just wanted to know what this Quick GPS is? Does anybody know free navigational software (like Tomtom) which I can install on my Jade and play with it.
Second and very important thing I wanted to confirm, if I am able to install Tomtom on my Jade, will I have to pay my mobile service provider for using GPS?
Sorry about my lack of GPS knowledge, kindly reply.

I think Quick GPS is something that helps get a quick lock on the GPS and then stores that data, at htcwiki.com it says "Quick GPS can speed up the amount of time for determining a users GPS position by downloading the latest satellite information via an Internet Connection"
I do not know of any free directional sat nav for win mobile. Google Maps is free though, but does not AFIK give turn by turn directions.
Co-Pilot 8 is rather inexpensive - have a look at their web site alk.com (but read their forum too before committing to a purchase).
No you do not pay for GPS usage to anyone.
