Tilt could not install tomtom 6.03 navigator - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

i have problem with tilt gps with tomtom.
first, it not allow me to install the last version of tomtom navigator 6.032 Build8351. tilt said the rom need to be updated.
second, i isntalled the lower version 6.030 (8320), ti could not find any gps signal, i set as other meta receiver, but could not get any.
I got tomtom us map 675, total 1.4g in card but could not use it, so headache, could any one help me here? thank you

What's ROM that you are trying install it to? Where do you get the TT 6.0.32 cab file?
I've installed TT 6.0.32 into 3 ROMs e.g. Tilt Orginial, Helmi Tilt AKU 0.7.0, and Dutty Hybrid. Simply works as it should. BTW, don't mess up with External GPS application, or you may have to hard reset the Kaiser to start over.
You can always search in this forum, I see at least 2 threads mention how to make TT6 works on Tilt/Kaiser. For example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235.

thanks
i think i got the tomtom from other site said the cab file was derived from HTC oem cd. maybe this is the reason?
i think you are right, there is no build in gps to choose.

Click on the link on my post above, download the 6.0.32.
Uninstall the old version, soft reset, install the cab file you've download. Try it. If you're living close to my area (address above), just PM, I can help you directly.
Good luck.

really appreciate, i am so afraid of your address, do you work at white house?
I download the new version for tomtom, foudn there is one more function bulid-in receiver, chose that one, but still could not get it. It keeps saying that NO VALID GPS SINGAL. I really dont understand why it happens.
If you have same machine, could you write down step by step and let me try? thank you.

He's just one of my neighborhoods.
1, backup your device. Sprite Backup trial is good enough if you don't have the full. Then Hard reset*.
2, Install the cab file which you should download from the link http://www.sendspace.com/file/9379xf.
3, Follow on screen instruction to install. Tap on the box located on the bottom right corner, then tap on the right side where you suppose to see the signal indicator bars. Choose configure, pick "Built-in ..."
4, Go to open, clear view sky area wait ~ 3 min for the satellite fix (and your luck.) If your luck doesn't come, perform a soft reset couple times. [I did twice, suddenly, my luck came]
5, Install everything fresh, otherwise, just go back by the handy backup file.
* I did mention hard reset here, because I messed up with the settings in external GPS applications when I couldn't get the valid signal by the time I tried to pair the Tilt with a BT-359 GPS receiver which I used successfully on Treo and 8525. I had to use Treo + BT-359 as the references in order to make sure I get the valid signal, because the receiver can't "see" a single satellite, sometimes!

I'm running 6.030, I took the SD card out of my old Wizard, did a direct copy to my new MiroSD (6gig :-D) did a little file tidy up and then popped it into my Kaiser. It auto ran and did its install and worked straight away. I've since done a hard reset and it installed first time again.
In TT6 I have selected NMEA GPS receiver, baud rate of 4800 and COM4.
I'm really pleased with the GPS performance, I was worried that it wouldnt work as well as my bluetooth one as that could get a signal in seconds anywhere, even indoors, but the Kaiser is not a bad match, it struggles a bit indoors, but it gets there, over all very pleased.
hmm, i must have some issues, as i took my sd out of my hermes, where it would auto run, but when plaxing it in the kaiser it wont run atall?

On the root of the SD card there should be a folder called 2577, this has the TomTom cabs
I think all the auto run does is run these, just select them in File Explore and run them manually, should work...

What about if you just run the cab's directly?
if your talking about the ttn2003.cab or ttn.cab @ 5.50M then it asks to install and the progess bar just hangs , have to soft reset the phone to get out of it.
I am running 6.010 still and it works fine using the NMEA GPS with the above settings. I think the only thing I would say is once its installed if you have any problems with getting a fix on sats hit the tomtom traffic/update button as I did this and since then it was fine getting the sat info even if it takes a little time .

that was the 1st thread i found, and thought great! downloaded installed and got "Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again."
like many of the other T-mobile users on that thread, the solution seemed to be to get 6.030 version installed, but that aint playing the game!!!!
goes off to bang head againt the wall!
just checked, put my memory card back in my hermes, tomtom runs fine version 6.030, put the card in the kaiser and no go?
Might be worth trying to downgrade to 6.010? as I say I am using that version perfectly fine, 6.030 gave me **** regarding my maps which i bought v6.75 maps a while back but they wont initialise with the tomtom home software so thought bugger it just install 6.010 which works on my Vario I with WM6 and its all fine.
Russ
allthough 6.030 didnt run well for you , you could actally install it?
if thats the case, i might hard reset the device and start again?
hard reset the piece of crap
still wont work???????????????????????????
Get "Installing ttn.cab" then the lttle windows timer in the centre of the screen and that it it just does bugga' all!
Sorry for the delayed response but yes i managed to install 6.030 no problems there it was just everytime i started it and it wanted to register the map no matter what i tried it would not accept the key information even via tomtom home.

TomTom Navigator 6

I have just installed Navigator 6 to my TYTN II and it has asked me what type of GPS I have and which port it is connected to - Can anyone help me select the correct one to ensure it works.
Thanks
Whichever that generic wired option is then 9600 then com4
V 6.32, I think, has support for "built in GPS".
This way it automatically turns on the built in GPS and configures it.
No need to configure it manually.
Just get the Navigator.exe off of the ttn.cab file hosted on this FTP and you should be fine
FTP
im trying to download the tomtom cab whats the username and password? sorry if its a dumb question!!
Cheers
i got the download of the HTC website and installed and its asking for some maps.
where do i put them for it to see them?
CLEARLY you didn't do a search. This is on the WIKI.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
on the bottom of the page.
Wolfie, I'm not sure where you are getting your cab from, but you don't need username and pw.
Sning, right on your storage card will be good.
im trying to download from the xda ftp site. it asks me to login? any suggestions?

Thanks for the help guys, turned out I had installed it properly and it seems to be working fine although it did take a while to locate a signal. I had also messed about with the GPS settings by mistake but had put them back to what they were before and then did a reset using the button underneath (not sure if that's a hard or soft reset that is talked about).
I would suggest that anyone having problems go back in to tomtom software and configure the unit as mentioned by others i.e. Other NMEA Receiver; Baud Rate 4800; and COM 4 then go into the show GPS status and leave the system on a window ledge or something and it will find a signal. My device also does sometimes say no GPS device when first switched on to tomtom but this sorts itself out once you use the GPS status.
Hope some of this was helpful or may be I was just rambling

TOMTOM 6 Backlight issue

Oki here we go again. I have been looking for backlight fix of TomTom 6. I did find a link from the forum ages ago but now I can't find it.
I have installed C_Shekar new 6.1 Rom and installed my TomTom on it. When running tomtom the backlight switches off and I cannot see anything on the screen. Someone pointed (ages ago) that WM5 has issues with it and he gave me the fix for it which was working fine uptill now. I have tried the fix error message cab file from the forum as well but no luck. I think I need to edit the registry file for TomTom from backlight to bbcklight or something.
Now when I run TomTom with backlight fix it gives the following error message:
==================
The file 'TomTom Navigator' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem presists, try reinstalling or restoring the file.
========================
Please help!

Jay
Oki I found another TomTom version which is working just fine.
Great news
Just a quick question... which version of Tomtom are you using that has fixed this issue? There seem to be different opinions about which one is best...
6.100
6.032
6.030
6.020
6.010
Do you ever get a "jerking" problem where the position goes forward and backward along the same road as you move (instead of moving forward smoothly?).
Thanks.

Afternoon! I am not sure what version of tomtom it is exactly as it doesn't say on the file I downloaded. All it says it is "TNT2007" and nothing else. I have tried to check its settings from within TOMTOM but I was unable to find the version number.
Yes! there is a "jerking" problem, it did it when I went to France from UK through a road trip and it was getting stuck in Paris. It didn't find the most important places like "Eiffel Tower, Champs Elyees" even though I setup POI's, tried manually entering the name and still nothing. I wonder how POI's work in this software.
anyways all things aside, if you want the file I can upload it here and you can download it and try it out?

I'm using TT too, (Version 6.200, to find out: tap screen, settings, GPS Status lower right corner) and i have the same Problem. someone who kwnows how to solve?
My workaround: press call answering, start, settings, system, Lights, battery tap twice on checkbox, close... back to TT and lights on...
It seems that TT forces the Lights-settings...
Greetings, Camaelion
btw: sorry for my bad english, i'm german ;o)

To find your version of TomTom open the software and tap the GPS signal strength meter in the bottom right corner. Your version will be displayed in a white box in the lower right corner. I am using version 6.010 on an AT&T Tilt using the latest stock ROM minus the bloatware. I have little issue with how the screen scrolls, it is a lot better than my old iPAQ.
To be able to find POI's you need 2 things, a map, and a list of POI's. You don't always get a complete list of POI's with the map. If I was traveling out of the country I would make sure I had all the proper maps, and POI files before I left home.

I used to tap the red end key on my old iPAQ to minimize TomTom... I think the green key brought up the dialpad.

The best solution is using a hex editor to open the exe file under tomtom folder.
Search for Backlight and replace the 'a' to 'b', becomes Bbcklight.
Save and replace the original exe file.
Sounds a ridiculous way but it does work for all versions.
Suggestions
Hi Jay,
Sorry for taking so long to reply to your suggestion - work has been getting the better of me.
I've now trialled a number of different versions of tomtom and I believe the best one for this ROM is v6.032 build 8351.
Try googling "tomtom 6.032 torrent".
In terms of jerky and slow screen updates I've found a major improvement by backing up my SD card, re-formatting it (full formatting, not quick formatting) and then copying the map back first, and then everything else that was on it. It seems that my SD card was fragmented and defragging it made a massive difference. I didn't believe it would when I first read about it on another forum, but it really works!
I've also found a slight improvement by overclocking the CPU using the program XCPU Scaler v3.03. It runs tomtom at 472mhz. Not as big an improvement as the SD card trick, but still a small improvement.
I still think that tomtom performance was better under wm5 AKU2.3 (and even wm2003se) but we get quite a few more features with wm6.1.
I now have no backlight or other issues.
I hope that helps.

i have 2 phones one with wm6.1 and one with wm6.0 will tomtom woke on the 6.0 already have it on 6.1and works good

I Need Help Before I Scream (GPS Error)

Hi All
I very recently purchased a Orange TyTn II from ebay and before I start to chase the seller for a refund (which might be a struugle)has anyone got any ideas how I can get the GPS working. When Tomtom, memory map or the HTC gps tool tries to access the GPS chip the right hand LED flashes every 8 secs or so but no GPS data is displayed and the software either locks up or drops out.
Also is there much Orange branding on it as this one appears to have none so I suspect it may have had a rom upgrade.
I think the version is 1.27.12.11 as that is whats displayed on the boot screen
Please Help
Go to start, settings, System Tab at the bottom and click on Device information. Tell us what you have there. Then we'll be able to tell you more. Either way I think the phone is fixable by just do a flash upgrade on it. Maybe someone else can tell you more.
Rom Version 1.1 Sleuth
Rom Date 08/28/07
Radio 1.27.12.11
Protocol 22.45.88.07h
If that helps

You've definately got a cooked Rom there - but no worries because Sleuth Roms are great (one of my favourites), and work no problem with TomTom.
I also think the radio is fine - but I think (?) I used 1.27.12.32 with Sleuth... but before you jump in and start flashing, make sure you read lots, have hardSPL and read the WIKI.
As the phone is used you may be better off doing a hard reset before going any further. Make sure you sync and back up your data first because this will be lost. Also make a note of any installed programs because you may need to dig out .cabs for these and re-install afterwards.
As for the GPS - I posted this a while back which seems to have helped a couple of others...
1. Back up all my data, emails, sms's to my PC.
2. Make sure I have all the re-install cabs ready.
3. Flash new rom (or in your case do a hard reset).
4. Wait until rom is loaded - don't configure anything yet - and hard reset again (this is reported to make the rom run faster).
5. NEVER TOUCH EXTERNAL GPS SETTINGS.
6. Configure all things built-in to the rom (like timezone, language settings, notifications etc) BEFORE connecting to the pc.
7. Connect to pc and re-sync all my outlook data.
8. Switch off kaiser then switch on again using power button (not soft reset) - this forces any registry changes to be written to registry before the reset is performed.
9. Run quickGPS.
10. I always install and set-up my GPS programs next: GpsTEST, Visual GPSCE and TomTom.
Now to set-up GPS.
11. Make sure phone is well charged.
12. Go somewhere outside with a good view of the sky, no buildings etc - preferably no clouds.
13. Run QuickGPS again if this was first run more than a couple of hours ago.
14. Start GpsTEST. This will scan your phone and automatically set up the program for the correct com port and baud rate.
14. Leave GpsTEST running, put the phone down and drink a cup of tea or two, read a book etc - keep checking the phone every 10 minutes or so. I normally get a fix within a few minutes but sometimes 30 or 60 if sight of sattellites is not too good.
15. When GpsTEST shows as running (you'll have a number in the HDOP box and green vertical bars) the GPS is now working fine.
16. Now I start my tomtom and usually find sattellites within seconds.
17. I then ALWAYS run GpsTEST or VisualGPSCE before starting my navigation program (tomtom) because it gets a fix much quicker.
Let us know if this works and I hope it helps...
Will give it a go in the morning and let you know how I get on
Thanks
stupid eBay. At least, you got a better rom though and the person above me had great advice so use it wisely before you return a great phone.
Its still not working,
Hard Reset to start a fresh, ran quick gps, then ran gpstest, it scanned the ports and when it reached Com4 it hung,I left it for a few mins and tried to close the prog, which it did but the GPS led kept flashing, no further forwards.
Help please pretty please
Flashed Rom
Now Sleuth 3.0
Now communicating with GPS
Will see if I get a fix next

Oh no!!! Now you're really in trouble... Now you can flash Roms, Your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/vacuum/favourite pet etc will now take second place to XDA and the flashing frenzy
Make sure the person you bought from had put HardSPL on the phone (go into bootloader and it will tell you the SPL version) - if not, flash it before you put any more roms/radios on.
Also, if you didn't upgrade your radio you'll probably need to because Sleuth 3.0 is a WM6.1 based rom. If you don't you may get camera and/or sound problems.
Anyway, glad you sorted it out
I loaded Hard Spl myself and the Radio was upgraded at the same time.

GPS icon/menu not visible, fix with ROM?

Hi all,
First off i'm a newb.
Second... I just got my phone though my GPS doesnt work (got tomtom). I then realized there is no GPS icon/menu to tamper with to change settings (all this talk about comm 4 and stuff like that).
Im going to "Hard SPL" the device, then "Flash" it with the Dutty 6.1 ROM.
I've checked all over this site, but i've not found a simple solution to my problem.
Is this a fix? (sorry for having no idea what im doing)
Thanks for reading.
navigate to start>programs and you'll find an icon called QuickGPS. Click on this icon and download GPS data, this is needed to get a faster fix with TOMTOM.
Next, navigate to start>settings>system>external GPS choose com 4, in the hardware tab choose GPS hardware port 7, and baud rate 9600, in the access tab, tick the manage gps box automatically.
Start tomtom and configure it accordingly...
still no luck
Thank you for your advice though still doesnt work. I have GPS test, ad when i run it it just stays on "GPS starting up" and on teh botting some numbers appear and dissapear.... and a tiny red line above it...
Do radios have anything to do with the GPS? If so could you recommend one?
thanks again.
yes radios can worsen or make the gps fix faster. and it all depends on where you like and what rom u install. I am currently using radio niki KAIS_Radinly_1.65.24.36_ CustomRUU with ROM 3.29.DK.10 and i get a gps fix under a min. I am in Rhode Island usa. East Coast.
Go here to read some more on it

First thing, DO NOT mess with External GPS settings. It is well known to hose the GPS.
Download QuickGPS (google for it) and let it run for a few minutes outside. Maybe as long as 5 minutes, but it should never take that long (although it's widely reported to take a long time for the GPS in the Tilt to warm up).
If QuickGPS still does not get a lock on satelites, then TomTom won't. But it sounds like you're probably not waiting long enough, particularly the whole "there's no GPS icon" thing in TomTom.... I suppose it's possible you've gotten a version of TomTom which doesn't work with the Tilt.
There's no need to install other ROMs or Radios to use your GPS.
