Bluetooth: Always keep discovery mode on? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is there a registry hack that will result in discovery mode always being on when I turn on bluetooth?
The reason I ask is I have a Pioneed DEH-P75BT head unit in the car. It supports bluetooth, and my T-mobile mda vario III (Tytn-II) has paired with the P75BT fine (and is permanently registered), but the two devices only ever automatically re-pair if discovery mode is on in the vario III.
It's a bit annoying, as when ever I turn on bluetooth I have to go into the mode screen to make sure discovery is on, as sometimes it forgets this setting.
I have a PIN set for my vario III so I don't think it's a security risk (I hope), but ideally I'd like to find a way to make it work without needing discovery mode. I found an article on avforums which talked about getting the firmware in the P75BT updated but you need to take it to a Pioneer centre to do it, and I have no idea if it would fix this problem anyway.
Thanks
Mike

Unzip the following folder onto your device and place a shortcut to the .exe in whichever program launcher you use. When you click on the exe file, it will switch on Bluetooth in discoverable mode.
This works fine on my device without any problems, but as always you should run a virus checker on the file before using/installing.
Hope that helps.

I missed this post!
Thanks for posting fisha21.

I can't get it to run. nothing happens.
I'm searching the registry again. Anyone know where to find the discoverable switch?

Ok, I found the following hack on the XDA wiki for the Blue Angel. It seems to work ok (so far) for the Kaiser.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Settings]
"ScanMode" -> set 7 if Discoverable, 5 Turn on only, 0 if OFF
When I do a soft-reset, bluetooth is on in discoverable mode. What I hope happens is that whenever I toggle it off and on, it always remembers to stay discoverable when toggled on again. Time will tell!

[WM2005] Wifi Resume Fix!

Ok guys, I believe I've found the regkey to fix all the dropping wifi issues within WM2005. This has been tried and tested on my Blue Angel SX66 Cingular with the hack listed in the wiki to get up to WM2005. Anyways, to the patch, unfortunately I don't know how to make cab's so follow along. Get yourself a registry editor (i.e. TRE) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\"Your Adapter Name. Mine had 2 keys, tiacxwln and tiacxwln1, tiacxwln1 was the ticket for me" Within the Parms folder you'll find a DWORD value named ResetOnResume which should be set to '1' change that value to '0' and hit ok in the bottom left corner. Give your BA a soft reset and all should be good. I haven't tested this for side effects, but it now reconnects to wifi on resume without a hitch. Please post results back here, I hope I am not jumping the gun!
TIP: To find your adapter name go into Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Network Adapters and look for "xxxxxxx Compatible Wireless Ethernet" again, mine was called 'tiacxwln Compatible Wireless Ethernet'.
Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has been my number one gripe with WM5, everything else as just been small annoyances. But this one... I use WiFi a lot, actually almost every time I turn he thing on. I even got WiFi in my car! So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Oh, do I have to say that it really works? Qtek 9090 btw.
You who try this, don't forget to turn off the unit for 15 seconds before you do the soft reset, this flushes the registry.
This also appears to work on WM2003, at least with my SX66 running the current revs from the SX66 Standardization Project.
WOW ... its perfect ..... you're realy MAN !!! thx thx thx.....
I've updated BA_WM5_FIX.CAB so that it sets this registry value:
ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/BA_WM5_FIX.CAB
with this registry setting wifi on my BA will not stay off. anyone else getting this?
Yes, I see the same thing. Now suspending the unit will turn on wifi on resume. So is that a problem for those who worry about battery life? Probably. Do I care? Nope! But then I'm in my own home around 90 % of the time, within reach of the charger. No, I'm not a slacker, I actually run a business and work 8-10 hour days, but I have my office at home!
Sorry guys I don't understand what's happening. What's going on with the wifi?
brn2prgrm: On WM5, if you turn Wifi on, switch the device off, then back on, Wifi does not resume. This action was default on WM2003SE. The registry key that makes Wifi resume by itself when you turn the device back on was found, and then integrated in the WM5 patches CAB. That's basically all
Eh...it was he who found that key! What he's wondering about is why it isn't possible to make it stay off when you have enabled this key, even if WiFi is off when you suspend, it will turn on when you turn on the PPC again, which it didn't do in WM2003. It was restored to last state, on or off.
Another thing: Has anybody tried this hack with the wireless control app from the Universal that was posted here a while ago, to see if it stays off then?

I think there is a TYPO in the cab file.
I found the reg setting as tiacwln1
Shouldn't this be tiacxwln1 ????
yes, it is a typo.
I've removed the mistyped key from BA_WM5_FIX.CAB and made a BA_WIFI_FIX.CAB which sets the correct registry value. They are in the same dir on FTP
I don't understand the wifi thing:
I get some connections from my neighbours, but my own linksys won't connect?
What do I have to do to connect my MDA to my linksys router??
since I upgraded to WM5 I can't get my wifi to operate 100% of the time--for example, when I connect to wifi--the signal is locked then I try to send/receive my email and then my SX66 tries to connect via GPRS--do I have a setting that's incorrect? or is it because of this thread which is now patched?? HELP--I use my wifi a lot and lately I can't TIA!!

I'm waiting for a patch that does exactly what you thought off, restores its last stage. Not sure hwo long would it take to come out with it.
Anyway, I do not find it a hassle to Turn On Wifi once again instead of it swtiching on by itself upon power up..... I use wifi a lot too though, but haven't found a prob with it.
how about a registry patch that fixes that bluetooth auto turn off annoyance?
O2 XDA IIs (wifi)
Hi , I have recently upgraded my 02 xda IIs to WM5 ,
after applying the patch , wifi worked for a while , then now when i try wifi again, i get this error.

TT5 + Bluetooth..........again.

I asked it before, so here I go again.
For 4 weeks now I'm trying to get f.... TT5 working on my wizard,I'm using a nokia LD-3W receiver. I've tried all the comments, suggestions, tweaks available on this site, but it's still not working.
Who can help.
Everything is connecting, pairing etc. Also other available Gps software is not able to connect to this receiver. Again the question: what to do next.
......Stupid enough I even bought the official software...
what isn't it doing?
does it load at all?? does it not see the BT GPS reciever?? does it not find the maps/voices?
The receiver is paired and connected either to com 6 or 7. I also tried the GPS settings.
TT5 is starting and running, but it's not connecting to the receiver, although it blinked (blue) when pairing. Also it worked twice for several days but decided to stop working again. Because I expected this I backed-up the registry (when it was working) and restored it, nothing.
I updated my ROM in any version available, also nothing.
Is there a registry setting I missed ? Or something else I didn't do ?
have you set the phone to have an 'Incoming Port' for the GPS on 6 or 7?

Yes there is! While hooked up to your pc using a/s 4.2, go to explore>windows mobile device>program files>navigator ,and copy the navigator .cfg file to your desktop. Now open it with WORDPAD (NOT NOTEPAD), and change the com port to whichever one you used earlier (com 6 or com 7) and copy it back to the device folder (navigator) that you copied it from.
I did that and it works perfectly.......P.S. I found that post using a remarkable little item called "search"......LOL
But really, try this...it works.
Later....... 8)
Did that and Tried that, also found that, like I said before I tried almost everything I found in this forum.
TT5 is setup for the same port as the gps is setup in comm manager. Everything looks like ist should work, it even did 2 times.
The receiver even reacts when I pair it, but it doesn't when tt5 is connecting with it.
Would be nice if one of you experts could help me with this
Don't know if the wizard works in the same way as the universal, but try switching your phone on before starting tomtom. I spent ages trying to get my universal to work before spotting this hint on o forum somewhere. Also give it a minute or two to work.
Hope this helps.
TT5 + bluetooth
make sure you have the following set:
1. GPS icon has to be enabled in settings (look for the reg tweak)
2. Use the #1 to select WM5 to manage GPS automatically.
3. Make sure to set "outgoing port" if you GPS is on 6 set the port to 7
4. In tomtom select port 7.
5. Make sure you're using TT 5.21 or above.
-gene
Cranny, I'm not English so maybe I understood your post in correct. If not.........
Gene, yes I did this also, this also doesn't help. I think the receiver is not ok but I need to find some way to prove that. It is pairing, therefore connecting but not starting if I switch on and connect TT5.
Could it be it's stuck in a powersave mode or something ?

Useful Prog: Automatically Turn up Volume when TomTom is Launched

If you are like me there are many times when you launch TomTom but you do not have any sound because your phone was on vibrate when it was launched or the volume on your phone was set too low to hear the voices. Well after some searching I came across this program on an Axim forum that will automatically turn your volume up when you launch TomTom and will turn it back to its original level when you quit TomTom. This works perfectly on my Kaiser.
Since we have internal GPS you will probably want to disable the bluetooth option in the configuration file.
You can find the thread here:
http://aximsite.com/boards/gps-talk/140969-tomtom-6-volume-override-loader.html
If you do not want to register I also attached the same file.
Wow, this is deadly intersting, thanks for your share I ll have a closer look into it
This is big news for me -- I always run my Tilt in vibration mode and I've given up with all the fuss of turning on the sound with TomTom anymore.
When TomTom is launched via the loader, I still get the 'No Sound' icon in the lower left hand corner of the map area. However, When I increase the volume (via slider wheel) the sound does indeed come on.
Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than before!
If the DATA CONNECTION is active, you will get that issue.
So, check your DATA CONNECTION before turning on TomTom.
You dont need that prog.

I just tested this and you are right. That is a strange bug but it is good to know, however I use direct push so my data connection is always active so this program is still very helpful for me. For me the whole point is to just launch Tom Tom and be good to go. Disabling my data connection each time would be a hassle.

TomTom Sound Issue

Question -- I have TomTom on my Tilt ... it installs fine, and works fine ... however each time I start it up the sound is turned off .. .and I have to touch the screen, turn on the sound twice before the change in settings "sticks" and I get the voice giving me directions.
Any thoughts how I can fix this?
Mine does the exact same thing, otherwise it works perfectly. Running XDA Live 1.1 ROM...
That is the default function. You must always activate the sound after starting.

hate to tell you guys, but it's not the default. The sound is on when I fire up Tom Tom on my Tilt, I've never had any issue nor had to go into settings to turn it on before. Are you guys using a ROM other then the original one?
Default off on both my HK Kaiser & my AT&T Tilt. Don't know what to tell you.
Solution that works for me!
I have found that all I have to do is to rotate the volume wheel on the side of my Tilt and the sound gets turned on without having to go through the preferences menu. It will repeat the last direction when you do this but it doesn't bother me too much and it lets me know that the sound is enabled.
The same issues occur with the previous version 6.03
And on other PPCs as well (eg IPAQ hw6910).
But it does not happen always, so I deduce it's related to conflicts with other softwares.
And it certainly isn't a feature, as a previous poster suggested.
TT as a default always starts with sound ON.

I didn't have this problem until about 30 minutes ago, I received the Carcomm Cradle I ordered for the car, installed it, tried out TomTom and now I have the same problem as you.
Are any of you using a Carcomm Cradle?
The only other thing I changed before the sound problem is I bought a "Veripart 3-in-1 Converter HTC ExtUSB" so I can charge the PDA and listen to music using the 3,5 mm jack port.
I also have exactly the same problem, and solve it with the volume wheel. I also had this problem on my Hermes.
TomTom 'fixes'
FWIW, not sure why, but the volume wheel never solves my problem in a predictable fashion, so I've went and found the following apps that make things easier:
TomTom Menu Builder -- Change the location of where the 'Turn on sound' or any button shows up in the menu for faster access. e.g., I've placed my 'Turn on sound' button on page 1 with 'Navigate to' and 'exit application'. The menu also allows you to enable all sorts of 'hidden' menus, with the most useful being the voice preferences menu, which lets you choose how verbose the speaker is. Alternatively, if you're not up to installing the menu builder, you could download my TomTom menu (see attached). Either way, place TomTom.mnu in \TomTom\SdkRegistry.
TomTom Starter -- Make your phone volume max and turn off all notification popups before starting TomTom. Reverses volume and notification changes after exiting TomTom. Great for when you forget that your phone is on vibrate or at a low sound setting.
BTW, its not the ROM that is the problem, it most likely has to do with TomTom. I'm using 6.03, non-taster edition.
The sound will be muted when you start TomTom with a data connection active. If you disconnect your data connection (G, 3G or H) before starting TomTom the sound should be on.....

Thanks michi123, I seem to recall reading about this in another thread. However, that's still yet another application (comm manager) and button I need to press before starting TomTom.
It's much easier for me to use the two applications I've included, as I'll need to go into the menu anyway to enter my navigation point and should I forget to turn off vibrate or crank up my volume, TomTomStarter fixes that for me...

Excellent! That works. And unless you have changed the functionality of your end button (like in the xda ROM) it is pretty quick to hold down the red end button (to close all data connections) before opening TomTom.
But it's not very effective when you're using a converged device, right?
I mean, would you turn off your phone every time you'd want to load TT, and then have to remember to turn it back on (while still inside TT)?

All holding down the end key does is cancel all active data connections .. it does not "turn off" the phone (unless you happen to be on a call). So yes, if you want to tun TT when you are on the phone, this solution will not work, but if you want to run TT when you are not actively speaking, holding down the end key first solves the sound problem. Then, you can still make and receive calls and, for that matter, you can still use data programs too, all with TT running.
Very useful thread, I've just updated mine and my G/Fs TyTns, we both have exactly the same ROM and RADIO, hers starts with Volume on, Mine starts with Volume off, the only real difference is that we're on different service providers, we both have MS ActiveSync running against our different corporate Exchange servers, and I have reduced my connectivity to GPRS to save battery. Will give the Tweaker app a go and see what happens. Sh
Alex. What version of tomtom are you running. I cannot get the menu file to work with my version 6.032(8351) no taster version.
Hi guys,
I just wanted to post on here cos I noticed some information that I didn’t agree with and also I have tested what others have said and it works so I thought I would say thankyou in one breath and bugger in another.
I have tested TomTom 6.031 SDK version on a HTC TyTN2, Glofiish, HP614c, HTC p3300 and a HTC Cruise and all of them start TomTom with the sound muted if they have a data connection active!
Sound is not muted at start-up if there is no data connection. This is great to know as I was baffled by it all but it also causes me a pain in that I need the data connection all the time, so I think its a mistake if TomTom themselves presume otherwise.
I have a XDA Orbit 2 on order but I am guessing it will be the same with that. I dont remember this issue with Windows Mobile 5, but it happens for sure on 6.
Also I have an issue with the 6.031 SDK and the unmute function call doesn’t appear to work!
Ho hum... so many devices with the same issue....
Ram
I have to admit I made a slight error in my statement above, I hadn’t tried it on the HTC p3300 and got the same result, it would appear that the HTC p3300 is the only device out of the many I have tried that doesn’t switch to silent when loading TomTom while a data connection is active.
I am trying to work out why this is as I am running the same software installation on all the devices.

headset issues plus a few other questions

Hi all,
I have just purchased a t-mobile ameo and have so far unlocked and upgraded to wm6. I have a BT bluetooth headset which I have linked with my device and is saved as wireless headset BUT when I turn it on, I am asked for a passcode (there isn't one!) and as a result, I can't use it.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Phil
Hi again, you seem to take the same way I went with my Ameo...ROM, BT problems, contacts problems etc. ;-)
The passcode to nearly all BT devices - if not stated otherwise in your headset manual - is 0000, type it in and try.
Under settings/connections/bluetooth there should also be an entry "security" or so which states "authentication (passkey) required", if you turn it off (not recommended), it should work without a passkey.
Hi again Will,
I've checked all that, security is turned off yet it still asks for a passkey when I turn on the headset and try to make a call. When I first connected the headset, I tried 0000 but it is rejected?!?
Oh, while I have you...
I've just installed tomtom 6 and am having a few issues:
1. Tomtom is listed on the today screen but will not load from there
2. it doesn't appear in my programs folder, I have to go to file explorer/my device/program files/navigator/tomtom
is there anyway to make it easier to access? It's not a problem, just a chore.
Is there anyway to get running programs option on the today screen? it was the on the lower left option before I unlocked etc...
Cheers again for your help and patience.
Phil
You should also try 1234.

1. headset: then it should be another passkey, depending on your headset vendor, maybe you can find more help there, sorry.
2. TomTom: seems to me that it wasn't installed properly or maybe you've loaded a Today-skin that doesn't work 100% with it?
...first try to add TomTom by looking in settings/personal?/menus (it should be listed there, otherwise the program is definately not installed properly) perhaps you should then un- and reinstall it (my first TomTom6 worked immediately on a Dell Axim X5)
3. Running programs: are you referring to taskmanager which shows running applications/processes? I'm not sure if it is present in an official ROM (I'm using MichyPrima 5.1), search in programs for it, if its there you can then add it to today or start menu via the settings.
Hey will,
I'll try the new code tomorrow, my "copy" of tomtom looks like it doesn't install correctly so I'll have to try another. When i say running programs, it's the section of memory which tells you which programs are still running in the background.
By the way I'm using spb which has helped with certain customizations.
On a separate note, has anyone tried installing shadow of legend (mmorpg)? I wanna give it a try BUT it either won't copy across or freezes my system.
Cheers Phil
Did you try 1234?
1234 worked!
Thanks bud
