I need a bit of help - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

I got my XDA IIi from a friend who decided to help out a old git with huge mitt's (hands for the none British) its been great for me and he said he thought he knew where he had put the 2003SE disk for it / the original disk which came with it. (I got everything else hand book cradle etc etc)
Guess what three months later he cannot find it!!
Can anyone let me have access to get it from them or I am willing to supply a snail mail addy for you to post it if there is no other way.

not having owned an alipine myself i cant say if it's normal
but non of my pda's have com with a disk with the os on
the os was on the phone and the disc it came with just
had activesync and a few extre programs on it and a version
of outlook
what is it you are seeking ?
if it's just an offical rom one can find those online

I was hoping to have a backup of the OS i.e. 2003SE its about the only OS I haven't seen about

the deathnoise update is the latest 2003se Os, you dont need any backup disjs as you can get activesync from microsofts website this is the program to sync and put programs on your xda2i

I have the CDs that came with my Alpine and there is no OS on any of them, just 2 Cds with applications of various flavours. i downloaded the latest ROM from O2 and flashed that, not yet been brave enough with one of the ones from here, mainly because its not technically my Alpine, it belongs to work although no-one really wants it.

Activesync Versions

Evening folks,
I have just completed a full clean install of my desktop PC and need to install Activesync, but which one?
As you may have guessed by the fact I'm in this forum, I have an Alpine, a Qtek 2020i to be precise.
Other information that might be helpful for you to give me an informed decision is...
I do have WIFI and bluetooth, and obviously the cradle
I run Exchange 2003, full version, fully updated
I do want to connect to Exchange both at home and on the run for email etc.
Thanks in adavance
Tom
Come on folk, you guys must be connecting you Alpines with Activesync, well unless cups and string have taken over!
If nothing else please let us know your experiences of the different version from 3.8 to 4.2 of Activesync.
Tom
Just upgraded from 3.8 to 4.2 and it kept my partnership so not really any issues there.
Not used it much yet but 4.2 seems alright, no real issues yet.

Morning
Well I opted for 4.2 and certainly the basics are working.
However....
I don't know if you use the sync function for music inside Media Player? I sort of did previously, I couldn't use automatic because I'd need one fo Sanyo's new 8GB MMC for that!
However I can't sync music at all now, says that the device may not recognise the format. I'm wondering if it uses Activesync behind the scenes and that is trying to send a slightly newer version of the WMA format that Media Player in Mobile 5 understands?
Tom
Hi,
Nope sorry never used Media syncing, when I do use a HTC device for playing emdia files I've always used TCPMP and just played the files straight off the SD card.
Could try contacting Micros$ft support - you'd have thunk that they'd include backward compatability, but hey I'm just a C/Perl programmer for a living so what do I know!
G
trying to find a copy of Activesync 3.8 for Win98
Hi
I have a freind who's machine cant take XP, so still uses win98, but activesync 4.2 wont install this and microsofts site dosnt seem to have it any longer
Can someone upload it for me, so I can get her XDA synced and backed up ?
Regards
Michael
Active sync and ports
Hi
Slightly off topic here
Just wondering if any of you use active sync and a gps reciever ?
I use my XDA11i daily at work and it is always sync'ed to work lap top .I have been trying out side of work to get a gps reciever to be recognised but no joy and , worst , oftern software says it cant find or open the port?
Any body have this problem ? know of a port manager that works with Win 2003se !!!or a way to see what is connected to each of the ports ?
Ive tried all of the usual things , Beam settings , re booting , compete re install etc but no joy

How to sync tytn ii with mac... has anyone got any clue

I have just bought HTC tytn II but dont know how to sync it with my mac. can anyone provide any answers
You'll have to use The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile to sync all your calendars, tasks and contacts from your mac to your phone.
http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php
I used it with my 8525, and it worked without a problem. I've never tried it with my Tilt, but it should be the same.
Dave
yeah Missing Sync works great with Mac...you can sync more items than ActiveSync offers for Windows. Such as text messages...
Wow! I was expecting to browse this thread and see a ton of replies flaming Mac. Good to see the professionalism showing.

Well i am a MS fan, always been a user since the first time i used a computer, but am now employed by Apple (no, i refuse to use that iPhone, its truly not as good as people say it is), and to admit, there are many things Apple is better at than MS, but Mobile, Windows Mobile remains on top only because its so open.

you can try eltima syncmate. right now its still in beta. feature wise and simplicity I like it better than missing sync but that's just me.
When I had Tiger, the one thing missing sync had above syncmate was its ability to open my device as a disk in mac os x. But with leopard, this has been disabled (missing sync 4.02) You can read through the missing sync change log about this. If you still use tiger, try and get the last missing sync v3. If you have leopard, i'd advise using syncmate since it's free though there are still some bugs (i mainly use contacts sync and no issues there)

There is no need to flame Macs. They are now capable of running their own OS as well as a working one (how's that for professionalism )
Ok, I'm just a sarcastic jerk. I actually have a Vista computer, an iMac G5, my Tilt and I have an iPhone again (which is going on Craigslist...again!). I don't know how to synchronize with the Mac so I just use the PC. I couldn't care any less which of the computers I use. They both work.
wow! i'm glad tytn II can be synced with Mac! coz my Vista just crashed on me a few hours ago without any good reason but thank God it miraculously got revived!
so i'm really skeptical of Windows and plan on jumping over to Mac if ever any nonsense from Windows/Vista comes up again..

I have owned a qtek 9000, an HTC MeTeor, an HTC TyTN ll, and All have been WinMobile 5, smartphones, or WinMobile 6 Professional devices, and I can honestly say, that The Missing sync (on My MacBOOk Pro, OS X 10.5.6), I have had SIGNIFIGANT SYNCING ISSUES, AND SIGNIFANT BLUETOOTH ISSUES, THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE even been in the equation as I was cradled with a USB. I have tried it 6 ways from Sunday on at least 4 or 5 different devices and not fared much better. I am wondering if I brave enough to try to flas my ROM on my TyTN ll to the current version, but do it running Windows XP on my MAC through VMWarefusion (I think it would be easier than trying to do it with Parralells or Boot Camp) but honestly, I haven;t heard from anyone that has ever updated a ROM on Winmobile 5 or 6 device from a MAC. If you have, I would forever be in your debt to know how they did it and how it worked? Cheers, Shogunzero

It is not possible to flash from the Mac side, Leopard will not run the .exe's.
I have an Intel Imac running Windows XP through Bootcamp. I sync through Active Sync 4,5 to my Windows desktop with never a problem. I have also flashed many roms, radios, and upgrades also, and have never had a problem at all.
Since I run my business off of my Mac. I also need to sync my phone to my Mac side. What problems have you encountered ? Missing sync has been way better than AS for me. Never a problem.
Parallels is crap. Crappy software, crappy company. Bootcamp is way better and free. I can't believe I actually paid for Parallels.

Im sure its possible, as you CAN flash using tty on other devices under Linux. Dont forget, macs come standard with ssh/tty ( as they are Unix ).
Ive not done it on a kaiser yet ( Hardspl allows you to flash via MicroSD which is not only faster but a MUCH MUCH more stable way to do it ) But i remember messing with the roms on my hermes ( goofing with mobile linux ).
Im on a C2D Macbook Pro. I sync using MissingSync. I do ALL flashing by copying the nbh to the MicroSD. This is your safest, fastest, most efficient way of flashing ( Much faster than runing an exe on a windows system ). If you need help on how, shoot me a PM =)
Just a sidenote.....
POF made the HERMflasher and im SURE he has to have something available for the kaiser by now You might try to shoot him a PM to see if he has a source you could compile and port to the kaiser. If it can be done under linux, then more than likely you can do it under BSD Unix
When I asked this question last spring, the general concensus was possible, probably, but the tools weren't there yet. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393869
I have never flashed from an SD card before. Just takes ten minutes on the PC in Win XP, never had a hitch, resistant to new ways I guess

Rohit8282 has a mac............. not xp. Simply telling him some useful information. Also, flashing via SD takes at most 5 minutes. There is NO RISK at all involving a data connection disruption OR power failures.
Just more helpful info
The OP was from a year ago, shogunzero searched and picked up this thread. ( yea, a noob who actually searched, good job) He has the same set up as me, running an Intel Mac with a partioned disk , running OSX Leopard on one side and Windows XP on the other side.
Suffice it to say , you cannot run the Kaiser RUU and flash Spl from OSX. Once you have SPL flashed on your phone , you can download custom roms onto OSX and transfer he files to your SD card and flash from your card.
Since I personally spend equal amounts of time on OSX and XP, I just do all my flashing and phone play from XP. Microsoft plays nice with Microsoft (why upset Bill and Steve)
If you are just updating your stock TyNT II rom then you can do it safely from your SDcard, If you want to flash a custom rom you need to initially use XP to flash HardSpl.
It is just as safe.
And if like pyraxiate, your really sweating that extra 5 mins, I just have an extra cup of coffee

LOL im with you on the coffee part, but the main reason I flash Via SD is because I flash about once or twice a week, and I keep a folder of roms as well as a folder of radios on the sdcard itself. If im out, I can swap things around at any time ( and because im an on-the-go technician this is a good thing). I can download the roms and install without ever using a computer. Very useful if one doesnt have windows at all
But, im having my cup of coffee now and flashing as we speak ( trying out a PDACorner Rom )
Being a noob at card flashing, you have a card that is just dedicated to roms ? You don't load roms on to your everyday card with music, ringtones and backups, and flash from that do you?

I do have multiple cards , but my last 10 flashes have been from my everyday card. I keep a folder inside called flash and inside flash are 3 subfolders ( Roms, Radios, Hard-SPL). I copy all of the nbh files to the appropriate directory path, then rename them to something id recognize like HDIII.nbh, L26M2D.nbh, PDAV14.nbh and for radios use the radio number. when I go to flash, simply copy/paste the rom/radio (HDIII.nbh) to the root of the SD card and rename it to KAISIMG.nbh ( do not cut/paste as you wil want the original later). just reset into botloader and viola there you go. flashing made easy hehe. (all but flashing SPL...thats done a tad differently from sd)
If you have any other questions feel free to ask
PS
I use 2x 8gb card and no issues yet (maybe 1K flashes now haha)

Ciao, Francesco

Please read for this is no oridinary problem.....Unable to Activesync

I have AT&T 8925, live in United States, Run on a Dutty Rom and pretty much everything else is simple. No serious tweaking or reg hacks.
So Today, I go into work, plug in my PDA, and no sync. It is charging via the USB, but not syncing to Activesync. I need Activesync, it has all my contacts, appointments, etc etc. In the process of trying to troubleshoot this problem I have wiped my phone clean.
I have tried it all;
clearing storage on phone
deleting activesync off PC (4.5) and reinstalling, multiple times
Used Microsfts Troubleshooting guide
I have installed Activesync on three different PC's and all wont recognize the phone, as if its not there, but it does charge. I also have tried 3 different USB cords.
I don't know what to do, I even stumped the HTC troubleshooting tech guy. I also am screwed since if I send this phone back to AT&T under warranty to get a new one they will see the Dutty ROM and that will void my warranty. I would reinstall the original Windows/AT&T shipped Rom, but I cant get the Activesync up or don't know how to get a PC to recognize my PDA.
So.........I beg and plead, lend your advice for as long as this thread goes (hoping its in the right place) I will try your ideas, theories, and what nots.
IT seems like it would just be something so simple......is it? Where is my Data Connection.....
Thank you fellow XDA members for your time and assistance.
~b
Do you get the "connecting" sound on the PC when you plug the device (same one you get when plugging any USB device)? If not I'd go for hardware fault on the phone's USB port... maybe one of the connector's solder points got ripped or whatever. That's if the port isn't fried altogether... Done anything special between the last time it worked and the first one it didn't?
This may be obvious...but did you restart your computer and hard reset your phone, then try? Im using vista and ive had no problems with any roms...so it just maybe a temporary problem.
Also test this while using the back USB ports, the front ports do not connect the same as the back ports do.
When my new Tilt's screen died an untimely death, I spent all day restoring all my goodies to the replacement Tilt. The next day, went to ActiveSync, and NOTHING! Charged, etc, but no connection. I did all the steps you tried and a few more.
Then, after wasting an entire evening, I found the solution!
Go to Connections>USB to PC, and uncheck 'Enable advanced network". Plug it and let 'er sync.

ahaha yea i thought graff had already checked the software so i didnt bother going into that
I suggest u try to search, there is a search option - type there something like "cannot conect to activesync" - there are milions of threads with this problem, unfortunately I dont know if there will be a solution for u. Just try that out and read.
This happened to me and I had to send my phone in to at&t. I know this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear. They sent me another phone and gave me 10 days from the day I received the new phone to send back the old. I also had the same rom as above I couldn't even flash it via sd card, so I sent it as was and haven't heard anything since. This was two months ago. The problem turned out to be with the mini usb port, it was warped like it got to hot or something. Maybe from using in car for gps I don't know. I hope this helps.
answers and bump
As for searching........always someone has to say it, "why dont you try the search option" - my friend, I am a google allstar and beleive in the forum searching till you can no more then post theory. Now saying that, I am willing to bet the answer to my problem is buried within a post in some thread with some fabric of the entire XDA forum. Finding it though can be harder than removing bubblegum from buckwheats hair.
So I have tried a hard reset for the PDA and the restarted my PC, several times.
...no go
I knew something was wrong when I lost the "ding" every time I hooked up the PDA via USB to my computer.
I had tried the unchecking the Enable Advanced Network before but did again and reset the phone with hopes of glory today. No glory.
I feel I have lost the phone and am ready to move on. Its just so friggen hard since it charges. How can it charge, and not stream data! I fried just the right parts of the mini USB? Blasted! So so so so disappointing because I felt I really had it nailed this time with the perfect radio, ROM, Dialer, programs, software, it all.....well maybe not radio, but my receptions suck all the time anyways and I live in Charlotte NC, a major US city with great AT&T coverage.
Now.....I am still open to any ideas and creative thoughts......but how do I get a the original WM6 Shipped ROM back on the phone? If I cant get any PC to recognize my PC via USB? I am calling in the warranty people today and not speaking of my Dutty, but having a new phone shipped. I just hope not to see a nasty bill come one month or two.
Thanks so far, well done XDA forum friends,

The first five were all shipped back on time, with original ROM's and valid device malfunctions. Never have I been billed.....yet........

You are wise my friend. Thank you for the other software, I will try that. Funny thing about the PC, is I have tried three different PC's, all which it used to sync or try to sync with when I would just be charging. I would love to flash via SD card, but first I need the adapter for my computer, or track a friend down with a printer and correct slot. That might be done tonight. I am at work now trying to download the a rapidshare file of a shipped rom, free style, slow style, and prolly not going to work. But hey, its a learning experience.
Either way, my warranty is up in August, so I figure why not get one more nice new fresh 8925 before then. Ordered new one today, comes next week. I will still try and flash back to the shipped rom via SD tonight.
XDA and its members Rock, this is by far the most help I have ever received via my few threads.

Help Improve My XDA2i and Wi-Fi Problem

Hi
I havent performed any upgrades to my XDA2i (official or otherwise) for at least 3 years - are there any upgrades I should consider?
Here is my Device Info
ROM Version : 1.11.00 WWE
ROM Date : 01/27/05
Radio Version : 1.00.00
Protocol Version : 1337.39
ExtROM Version : [THIS IS BLANK]
Model Number : PH10C
Also, I am unable to connect to WiFi with my XDAIIi
The device finds wifi signals and sometimes will make a connection - but when I try and open a webpage I get a screen showing "IIS7" and nothing else.
Here are my settings for WiFi :
Network Card Connects to tiacxwin Campatible Wireless Ethernet (for both The Internet and Work).
Power Save slider is set for Best Performance.
Thanks for any help and advice !!!
Paul
I am in a similar position Paul.
I have been given a 02 XDAll by my company to use for recording surveys.
Its bog standard like yours.
I'd really like to upgrade it but the problem is there is almost too much written about it on these forums .Most of it is so old and out of date that all the links are broken. Its hard work trawling through it.
What is needed is a simple basic upgrading overview listing all the options but I suppose everyone has moved on to more recent PDA's and are no longer interested in these
I've posted a similar request in the Himilayer section .Maybe we can share what we find
Nick
Nick, do you have a Himalaya or an Alpine? PH10B or PH10C?
The Alpine is stuck on WM2003, perfectly good for its task just not upgradeable to WM5 or WM6.
As for customising it realy depends what you are looking for.
Hi DeeDee thank you for responding. I feel guilty hyjacking Paul's thread.
Mine is a Himalaya 10B
with following spec
02 XDAll
2Gb SD card
Rom 1.72.00WWE

I just wanted to improve the Active page if its possible .I cannot read the tiny text so large button icons like the Diamond would be useful
I cannot set the Internet access up either ? have tried for hours.
I have a Netgear Wireless Modem router DG834G but neither the manual or quick guide explain how to set up the XDA .
I have spent several days trawling this site and the net.
Any help appreciated thank you
Nick,
No problem joining in - if we can get the WiFi problem sorted I would be more than happy.
DeeDee,
Should my ExtROM Version be completely blank?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul
you're up early !
I have used WM5 on an XDA Mini S (Wizard) a couple of years ago. I imagine that most of the current software and apps are written for WM5 orWM6 so it will mean I'll need to upgrade to WM6. Presume that means flashing the Rom which judging by the number of disasters on this forum is not something I'd do lightly.
Particularly as there are virtually no answers to requests for help.
I found a statement last night that basically says unless you are a software developer you arn't welcome on this forum which probably explains the lack of help.
Yours has the 128 Rom as apposed to my 64Mb which is a big advantage. I have gone off the idea of buying a Himalaya or an Alpine as they are too antiquated really which is a shame as I love the build quality and screen size.
I'm going to look for something a bit more contemporary I think . In the mean time I'll enjoy using the works XDA ll
Hi
Flashing the Himalaya to WM5 or WM6 is painless and it has to be said slightly addictive, you will try many ROMs until you find one you like. Think I have tried most of the ROMs for the Himalaya.
The lack of help has NOTHING to do with not being a developer, i'm not one and have had lots of help. The problem is probably due to the lack of people using these PPCs. i have to confess my Himalaya is purely there as something to muck about with, work didn't want it any more. i have a Trinity as primary PPC phone and an Alpine with an application that doesn't work on WM5.
You won't get your Himalaya to connect to your WiFi as it doesn't do WiFi without an add on card.
DeeDee,
Should my (Alpine) ExtROM Version be completely blank?
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul
Can't remember and my Alpine is at home, but i don't think so.

Thankyou DeeDee I appreciate you taking the trouble to answer silly questions by a noob.
I have downloaded and printed out a 140 page manual and there was nothing clear about connecting to wi-fi
If I have to carry this Hima around with me all day I might as well have it working as well as it can.I had intended to purchase a 3g Iphone for myself but now I'm not so sure I might buy a HTC instead if I can find one with 3.5" screen and wi-fi and a reasonable interface like touchflo
Nick
i have to say the smaller screen on my Trinity is perfectly adequate and that the larger form factor of the Alpine/Himalaya means you need a headset/handsfree kit to really use it as a phone.
It's also not pocketable, which my Trinity is, just.
If you can find a decent mobile shop and have a touchy feely sesion with as many as you can.
thanks DeeDee thats excellent advice. Photos never give a good indication of size and ease of use . The size is a bind like you say its heavy and too big for a shirt pocket but it is easier for me to work with using reading glasses.
I got an 02 XDA mini S when they first came out. I found the screen too small and fiddly and it stayed in the box unused for 18 months when I sold it on ebay for nothing so I have learnt my lesson.
DeeDee may I just ask one other question please. I have trawled through the wiki and various other sources but I still haven'y founf an answer to my initial question on the Himalaya board.
Q1 How do you install a new app on the Hima or Alpine ?
Q2. where does it get installed to ?
Today we lost the special survey App again Grrrrrrrrrrrv because the flippin battery went flat.
My boss is hopping mad and blames me !....I blame IT cos they installed it.
There must be somewhere we can install an App to that is non volatile and is not lost every time the battery goes flat.
Presumably the same place that WM2003 is installed ? How is it done ?
To install an app either:
1 - use Active Sync to install it if necessary
2 - if the install is a CAB file copy it to a memory card and then click it on the PPC to run the install.
As for the where it installs, when you run the installer it may ask where you wish to install, either Device/Storage Card. Make sure both batteries are charging. In all honesty it's not your fault that the end users aren't charging their Alpine on a regular basis.

How to: Cooked ROM with WiMo 5 or 6.x ?

I have my HP 6515 for about 3 years now, and it's still working fine.
But even if it's updated to the latest official ROM from the HP site, the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on it, is just getting to old.
I think it would be great, if there would be made a cooked ROM for this device, with Windows Mobile 5 or 6. There would be some many more possibilities with this device, just with a ROM upgrade.
For example: the latest versions of DivX Player Mobile don't support WiMo 2003 (SE). I have to use one of the earliest versions to play AVI's on this device. It can play them fine, without hitches or errors, but you have to use an idiot old version, and you have to set the date to 2006 to get it working.
It's not because I don't want to buy a new phone or something alike (I have an HTC Prophet with WiMo 6.1) but I'd like to learn how to make a cooked ROM, and there's nothing better to experiment with than this device
What are the needs to create cooked ROM's, what software do you need, etc ?
I know there are people who can explain this to me on this forum, and I'm not afraid to learn (or brick my HP ).
Wow, it's great I'm getting so much response...
Does anyone here actually reads this ????????
Impossible
Don't bother anymore cause from what I've been reading it's not possible to put WM5 on iPAQ 65xx because of hardware incompatible memory, and if WM5 don't work WM 6.x is out of the questions cause it uses even more memory.
Have fun with WM2003SE.
yep!
even if you ask HP about it...
