I am a newbie to Tytn 2 and hence this basic question...
Credit (talktime) refills are sold as cards with 10 digit pin number and you have to diall *155* (then the pin no)# and then press OK ( the green phone button on the left side of the key pad).
But i cant get this number with my tytn 2...any number starting with * is not dialed
What do i do....i am sure there is way around this...!!
i cannot use any number starting with * with tytn 2 wheeras it is so eay with Nokia phones
How do you dial *163# which is auto balance enquiry number.
strange but true....
Hmm, I can do the *xxx# numbers fine... It doesn't "dial" but makes a service request to the provider, just like all other phones...
Problem solved..
I went to Start > settings > Connections > Connection setup
it automatically udates settings from the network provider and then you have to restart the phone.
Checked the balance using *166# and works fine.

I have problems with SMS. When I send SMS to the number which usually sends a message back to me with my credit amount level, nothing happens (with "ordinary" mobile phone it works perfectly fine). Also I do not get Delivery Reports from any number.
But when I put my friend's SIM card (same operator) everything works fine - I get messages back, and I also get delivery reports for messages that I send to other numbers (any other number).
Also, when he put my SIM card in his HP iPAQ 510, it works fine.
Only thing that is different is Call Options > Phone number.
I can not enter my phone number in Settings > Phone > Call Options > Phone number. There is "Unavailable" written in that field and I can't change it. I can't even get that field focused.
When i insert my friend's SIM card, that field shows his number. Same with my SIM card in his phone - number shown.
I think that field might be the reason why SMS is not working the way it should. Maybe that field is used as a number from which the message is sent, and because it is "Unavailable", credit amount service can't send the message back to me. Same with delivery reports.
Do I need to do something with my SIM card to make it work correctly?

Just a small update:
When I turn off the phone and then turn it on, I can send the SMS, I get the delivery report, and also I receive a message from "credit amount" service. But, after that first SMS it doesn't work any more. I have to restart the phone again to make it work.
Help still needed...
try a softreset if fails then hard reset...
or goto xda ftp u will get some network config files...install them...

Couldn't find it, do you know exact location / link?
I requested from my mobile operator to give me a new SIM card. After they did, phone started to work normally
Got my ignito the other day and realised yesterday that I haven't received any texts. The girlfriend also asked why I hadn't replied to her messages, and when I tried to send a message it comes up with:

Have looked through the settings and cannot find anywhere where to input the service centre number for O2. Also tried t O2 and O2 service settings programs in the program list, and they have problems connecting to retrieve any settings. Also on the O2 customer forum other people don't seem to have this problem.
Also have called customer services and even they are a bit unaware and wern't even in the know that this phone had been released. The data service guy over there hasn't even got any settings to push to the phone and has gone off to look for some.
Any ideas ?
Edit: The technical guy talked me through going into strat->settings and the phone area, then clicking on services and the 'voice mail and text messages' then retriving the settings to get to the message centre number. But when i do this the error thrown up says:
Cannot read settings from the network, try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again.

Tried taking out battery and a hard eset and nothing has helped. The only thin I have done to the phone is update to HARD-SPL but have not flashed a custom ROM yet. Could this be the problem at all, as I didn't test the SMS before updating this ?

Ye the customer service guy got me to do that, and reset, but still the same. Just tried it again and still nothing. Will try my friends SIM card in the ignito to make sure it isn't my old SIM card.
Just managed to send an MMS to someone on the desk next to me at work, so just seems like MMS. Fiddling with different settings in the MMS, like gateway number ports etc, and MMS still works with a number of possible settings but no SMS.
Really hope I didn't screw it up with the HARD SPL, but will try other versions of that tonight.
Cleaned the SIM and nothing, plus a big thing I CAN RECEIVE TEXTS, but still can't send them. But in the phone settings area I can connect to the network for all the other options like call barring, caller ID, call forwarding, and call waiting, just not the voicemail and SMS option.

there will be 4 possible settings here.
I sugest you try each of them, with a powercycle between each attempt just for good measure.
I had this on T-Mobile - the Sim didn't input the settings on install.
Go to phone > menu > options > services > voice and text settings and click get settings, you can try to input the service centre if it isn't there or wrong.
Cheers for that boys but still no luck. Tried all the GSM GPRS settings in the SMS tab and still the same.
ericson68, tried that lots the day I realised i was having text problems, plus the guy on the phone from O2 got me to try that, but as soon as i click on the SMS/voicemail settings tab it rejects it and says unable to contact. All other tabs on there can be conected to, like call baring etc, just the texts one which is screwed.
O2 have offered to give me a new one when a courier comes to collect the old one. only problem is my billing address is my parents house where the box is, so have to send the phone back to them tomorrow through our royal fail post system. Special delivery time I think.
Could the hard SPL upgrade have affected this in anyway, Im still running the ROM that came with it though ?
Just out of interest if you do a hard reset and then insert the sim do you get a notification asking to set up o2, or is your phone o2 branded?

The phone is O2 branded and has O2 software on it as well.
I have just hard reset it without the SIM card in and it installs some O2 things going through the progress bar, and also brings up a page to do with O2 GPRS settings and automatically configuring it.

I have a swedish phone so I am guessing the English meny names.
Maybe you can try this.
Go into settings, select phone, select services, tap "voicemail and sms", tap "get settings from network" and see what happens. You should receive the sms servicec enter number.

Hey stefan. Thanks but have tried that, and that is where the problem is. The SMS service settings are in there but when I click 'get settings' it says:

if you search the forum you will see that several people have the same problem, including myself...
Anyways, only solution (so far) is to change the SIM card. So just change your SIM card with your provider and it should work (this is probably free or really cheap anyways, you keep the same number etc.).
I have an unlocked Diamond and the same problem. Only my SIM card with Telenor provider does not work. Other Telenor cards work and also cards from different provider work.
So just change the SIM card and it should work (some people already tried it and it worked, I am too lazy to go to the store, but I will do it soon. until then I have another SIM card (different number) which works fine)

Sorry didn't reply. Just after my last post I tried a friends SIM card at work and it worked fine, so must be my old sim card (5 yrs). My contract was an upgrade and have been with O2 for those 5 yrs.
New card on way to me now, thanks for all the help !

Hey Guys, Need a little help!
Ok, I bought a G1 from eBay (I know I know bit risky!). Recieved it today, put in my Sim card (Orange UK), and it's opened up into the setup (login to gmail blah blah time settings), got into the phone mode, but it's not picking up any network on my SIM card
I can get internet (After inputting the APN settings..)
I have looked on the "About" status, and noticed the telephone number is: 07********58622#
I don't know where the 622# is coming from, because it isn't my phone number!
I go to the Network Selection, Choose Orange, and it says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
Any idea's?
when you call your number does your phone ring? and can you place calls with your real number showing up? if yes then i see no problem
Nope, I can't ring out, and I can't recieve incoming calls.
That number is on your sim card, not the phone. It shouldn't effect service though. Infact Mine was 00000000000 until a few months ago when some app wouldn't work because that number wasn't correct. Call TMo and say "google phone" when you get someone tell them you need your sim card updated.

However, the number shown by the code string *#*#4636#*#* > Phone Information > SMSC: > Refresh is "06915669917777".
Why are these two numbers different? Is the second one a different format?

I came across a number of posts on various forums describing problems with sending sms (while still being able to receive) and I had this problem myself for a while.
1. Many posts said that the way to fix this problem was to get into the testing menu with *#*#4636#*#* and input the number in the SMSC: field and hit the "Update" button.
2. However, when I tried entering +6596197777, it returned "Update Error"
3. If I leave the field blank (it's always blank by default), and hit Refresh then
"06915669917777" appears.
4. I was able to send sms messages successfully with this number BUT WITH NO number entered in the Messaging > Settings > Message Centre.
5. I assumed (probably wrongly) that the Message Centre number was embedded on the SIM card when supplied by the telco.
Thanks in advance for any help with how this works.

i had similar problem with miui on my samsung s2, for me helped like this: put another sim card, send sms and than put back that main sim card. Maybe it will help

I had a similar experience with my x10 when i updated to gingerbread 2.3.3. I tried messing with the settings, and after a lot of factory resets and google search, only one thing solved it. I can't guarantee if this will work for you, but here it goes.
1. Go to your local ISP and ask them to replace your SIM with a new one. (the reason behind this is that there might be an issue with old SIM cards, even if they are only a few months old) In most countries they allow you to keep the same number.
2. Power down phone and remove the old SIM card.
3. Power on the phone without the SIM card.
4. Power off phone.
5. Power it on with the new SIM card inserted.
The above did the job for me. If all else fails, factory reset.

It's one of those things where the picture gradually evolves over time and is far more complicated than I'd thought (no surprise really). It's interesting though. As I said at the start of the thread, I can send sms correctly but I'd like to know more about how the software/firmware works and what these damn numbers mean.
The trick of putting the SIM card into another phone and attempting to enter the Message Centre number there was suggested a couple of times on the forums.
When I took the phone to my telco, that's the first thing they tried after I asked them to check and/or replace the SIM card. This confirmed my assumptions that
1. the number is embedded on the SIM card by the telco when supplied with the mobile contract.
2. the phone reads the number from the SIM card and the number should appear in the SMSC: field in the Testing menu when the Refresh button is hit. This doesn't happen. Even when I tried it the first time, all I was getting was "00" but later the different number as I describe above appeared. It works however but I still want to know why the number is different from the one in the Messaging app.
The staff at my telco had no knowledge of the Testing menu and emphatically claimed it was a third party app I'd installed illegally until I got one of them to key in the code on their own phone and see the menu for themselves!
Neither they nor I noticed that the phone's Messaging app did not have any Message Centre number entered at the time. I was still able to send sms with no number entered.
I learn a little more each day thanks to contributors on these forums. Thanks again.

My SM-A715F/DS shows the Phone number as 'Unknown' - (Settings > About phone.
Is there a way to enter the correct number? Android 11
Long time ago, it was possible to do this on a Blackberry phone.
You can by using a 3rd party tool known as a sim card writer(wich i don't know if its legal), or you can call your carrier to add it for you.
