Hi all - I have a weird problem for which I am hoping people here would have a resolution. Recently bought a Tytn II,
ROM Version 1.81.415.4 WWE
ROM Date 10/29/07
Radio Version 1.27.15.32
Protocol version 22.51.88.13W
Using with a 2 GB memory card
Now, i have noticed a few times that the device just does not come out from the standby mode - the Green LED indicating that the GSM is on is flashing, but when I try to call into it using anothe rphone, it indicates being switched off or not reachable. I try to start is using the power key, or any number of keys without luck - the only way out is a soft reset.
I have seen some people quote a similar problem, but not inding a resolution there, am posting this up here
Pls help - I am extremely reliant on this as a business device and will get stuck if it behaves like this
Have you tried a hard reset? I know some radio's/ROM's have this issue
mine started doing that a while back and I found that it was a combination of my phone automaticly reciving an email while it was asleep and this program I had that gave you points for AP's and cell towers I forget what its called after I got rid of that program and changed my email to retrive manually the problem stoped
What apps would I need after a hard reset ?

Hi - thanks for the valuable advice. I would do so - however, another problem is compounding the same - I got this from a friend, and dont have the getting started CD that comes with the pack - can you tell me about, on a hard reset, what apps would I need to reload from the getting started CD? Or would I not need the CD ? I have all the other contact data with me on Outlook, and the other files I have copies of on the computer, so I don't plan to use a backup/ restore.
The only thing I have noticed that gets changed is the sensitivity resets to default usually which can be changed back in KaiserTweak or Advanced Configuration. I would say if you have never done any ROM or Radio changes to the device, and its a new phone its probably got something wrong with it. That gives you 2 options. 1 - take it back and get it replaced if you can, or 2 - follow the WIKI and change you ROM/Radio, but read WIKI because you will need to HardSPl before flashing anything.
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2 where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
I have the same issue once in a while. In my case gwes.exe hangs at that point which after that i have to soft reset. Still have no fix found though
I'm sorry but my fix wont work for you as its only for people whose phones only crash in standby there is no gwes.exe hang associated with it. Obviously it only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
@nlel
I allready tried a hard reset but the problem returns after a certain time.
The gwes.exe does not hang when using the device, it only hangs when resuming from standby and does not allways occur.
Well in your case its very obviously a software or hardware problem and nothing to do with the SIM and/or settings which impact the SIM. I don't know what else to suggest if my solution doesn't help I don't know what else you can try to do btw how do you know gwes.exe is crashing when resuming from standby.
When it happens to me (because of phone band type set to auto) I cannot see what is happening on the phone at that precise moment as I have to soft reset. There is nothing that is obviously crashing at the same time.
By the way gwes.exe according to MSDN, its Graphics, Windowing, and Events Subsystem. GWES loads display drivers, printer drivers, and touch screen drivers, maybe you have a hardware fault.
Does it happen to both your Tytn II's?? and have you tried my solution or a new SIM ?

Sorry for my English.
Hi, got a very big problem with my Kaiser - Vario3. Bought it from UK by e-bay. There was (maby) original T-mobile ROM. When I`ve done all settings correct and tried to connect, the display backlight have flashed to maximum, but Kaiser was still working, but without data connections. I`ve tried many 6.0 and 6.1 ROMs with many radios and everyone freezes it. Display backlight turns on max and freeze. Hard reset solves nothing, after entering PIN, freezes. But without turning on phone part of Kaiser is all OK. Only one ROM, which is able to make Kaiser useable, is T-mobile ROM ...but no data connection, if I try to start data, display backlight turns on max and Kaiser is freezed.
Anybody able to help?
Hardware dead?
...pls.

What you need to do is read the kaiser WIKI as unfortunatley it isnt as easy as just flashing a ROM you need to install hard SPL, and unlock it first. All of the information to sort the problem can be found in the WIKI
I`m not greenhorn. I`ve got hard SPL etc. I`ve read lot of wikis, forum threads. But nothing helps me to solve my problem. So...?
If this is happening with every ROM you install then I would think that it may be a bad sector on the phone causing this in which case the seller has sold you faulty goods
I think so. I`m waiting for PayPal result, I sent my problem there. But I still hope, that is possible to solve this with software tools too. So if anybody has the same problem, and has solved it, I hear (read) you.
Or developers with any great idea? It seems like any T-mobile branding problem, because phone is useable only with T-mobile ROM, with any other ROM just as PDA without phone.
...?
OK
had the touch diamond about 5 days ago. (no network) stuck my orange sim in it from my e650
In that 5 days it has twice failed to come out of standby. Nothing will get it to come alive apart from taking out the battery. Bit of a problem because i use it for alarm clock in morning.
The only things ive done to it so far are
Installed PHM reg editor
Installed PHM soft reset
Installed cab file to get rid of sms threading/conversation
Installed cab file to enable delivery notifications for SMS
Carried out reg hack to not show sim contacts (although thats now reset due to the battery coming out (I think))
Anyone else had this problem and got a fix? I tried pressing the standby/off button, holding the standby/off button pulling out the stylus etc
Hope I havent got dud hardware
Cheers
JP
same problem here with my mda compact IV from T-Mobile, just have the phone for 2 day's now, and it's 8/10 times now it would not come out his standby mode.
first thing i did when i got my MDA, is flashed it to A.Z.T.O.R. V7 Black Diamond Touch Edition.
So I'm kicking this thread up, hoping for some kind of solution of idea!?!?
hello,
thats not normal. use orig. rom from provider and check it again.
if the same than back to seller.
use reset to start the device again and not the battary put out/in.
iam not expert so see this answer only as a proposing.

Still not very happy with my phone so I might send it back to be checked.
i found another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436000&highlight=standby+freeze
I've had this exact problem, but the reset button on the back does work when this happens. I'm in the US on T-Mobile in NYC using a European Diamond. I work in a building that has very weak T-Mobile coverage and I've found that I only get the problem when I am at work. On the weekends and at night, the problem never happens because I am usually in an area that has either no coverage or good coverage. I have not eliminated the problem, but I have discovered that setting the network type to "GSM" and the band to "UMTS(850+1900)GSM(850+1900)" reduces the incidence of the problem for me to once every few days. I'd love to hear a good solution to the problem as well.

Hi there,
For some time now I these weird symptoms if I place my Kaiser in my backpack next to my Blackberry...
- It won't come back when pressing the power button
- But status LED is still blinking the usual way
- Trying to call it will just reach the voicemail
> Doing a soft-reset is the only way to use it again.
I tried different ROMs (initially 6.0, and now 6.1)
Any idea or comments?
Thanks
Anyone with an idea on how to log what was happening until it "freeze"?
I'm not savvy, but I think this is called the Stand-By of Death (SoD).
Here's a thread with some details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332088
Replace your device if under warrenty!!! I had to 5 times since Feb. Good luck!
i dont think there is anything wrong with your kaiser
i noticed that my artemis was getting exactly the same symptoms when my brother was placing it near play station 3... so i assume its something to do with electro-magnetic physics
you may however want a technician to look to your phone - to stop the doubts
I'm a bit scarred with repair guys...
Usually they give a refurb model (and not as "nice" as mine)
i agree with you - i dont like taking my new toys to repairs i always get the paranoia against them
dude ur phone is well - i experienced this in the past with several phones... keep an open eye if it happened in another situation that does not involve another device - then its time to call the bad repair guys

Yeah, it's really a weird thing ...
Problem is I have to keep both device in my backpack (BB8820 work device, and TyTN II personal device)
The most weird point is that the Kaiser was able to work smoothly for months in the same situation... Don't know if it's since I install the HardSPL, or a different radio than the stock one (WM6.0 versions)

Hi all,
I'm having problems with my HTC diamond, which I hope you don't mind me dumping here for advice.
From one minute to the other, my Diamond suddenly stopped connecting to my provider's network. That is, I cannot make phonecalls, send sms, etc. In the task-bar, there's now an antenna-icon with an exclamation mark. If I remove the SIM card and slide it into another phone, there's no such problems.
Here's what I've already tried to do -- without any results:
1.) call my provider, they said the SIM should be fine, it's registered as active (this makes sense, considering the SIM is working properly in another phone and other SIM cards do not work on the Diamond phone either.)
2.) switch network selection to 'manual'. This keeps giving an error message, saying that the device can't read the network settings ("try again later").
3.) soft reset (red button on the back)
4.) hard reset (volume button + enter button + red button)
5.) hard reset (volume button + enter button + red button) including NAND format.
6.) re-installing the 1.39 ROM (available at HTC.com)
7.) (out of sheer desparation) hard SPL (olinex)
8.) tried to downgrade to the 1.34 ROM (after hard SPL), but failed (froze)
Some possibly interesting information:
1.) I was running TomTom 7.0 navigation software, the back of the Diamond got quite warm (which I know is normal)
2.) The Diamond was hooked up to a universal 5V charger for a car.
3.) I can't get a GPS lock anymore (e.g. with Googlemaps, TomTom)
I'm quite sure that the problem lies within the device, not in the network settings.
Some left-over hypotheses:
1.) I blew up a chip using a universal 5V charger (perhaps it had too high a peak-voltage).
2.) A chip was destroyed by the heat of running TomTom for an hour straight.
But honestly, I don't know very much about this all. Hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Sven
i think this is a "feature" of the Diamond
Mine will randomly loose signal for 30secs - 1 min, then pop back
Mine's failed to pop back for about four days now ;-)
I called HTC. After running through all the check-ups they decided it probably needed repair. They're picking it up today.
i have the exact same problems you listed, im on t mobile but my phone does not pick up any networks. i eventually found out that i needed to plug in my phone to my charger for it to detect a service but i was still getting many dropped calls. did you just call HTC to see if they could fix it? im starting to give up after trying almost everything that you listed, good luck fixing it as i am in the same boat as you
The same problem here...But, my diamond is already in the service... Will wait a few weeks and if you want I will let you know what was the problem. When it happened I was using duffy's rom, I think 2,9 version. Maybe...if you were with the same, might be something wrong there. But one thing is sure...when I get my phone back FOR SURE I will put the original ROM without messing around. I recomend you the same!
Good luck!
Hi all, i got a Kaiser, ATT model, 2 month ago i has been using the device as pocket pc only and was working perfect, now i use as phone with the carrier "CLARO" from Chile... well this its drive me to crazy... when the phone function its on, the device its very sticky, i use it fro 3 or 5 min and then freeze for 30 seconds, some times i just wake up it from sleep and freeze, some times start freezing 15 second every 2 seconds... when i say freeze i mean its dosnt respond from any imput (Screen, Hardkeys, Keyboard, Power)... i was testing kaiser radios like 1.65.xx, 1.70.xx, 1.71.xx and niki, etc. without luck... i hide sim contacts too, i set manual search for networks, i try with automatic too and disable the other country networks that i found on the sim, i switch between GSM and 3g, i even change my custom ROM...
Well i think i am not hte only one in the world with this problem, long time ago i see a guy with a ipaq 6940, WM 5.0, i see the device working and freeze a lot too with the same way, even in XDA i read post responses talking about this, i think the problem its related to the reception, some times when i am on home work very nice, but when i go to the center of my city and enter to mall, the device start freeze a lot, on my girlfriend house too (its a solid structure, my its make in wood lol)...
so, i am very tired of this, its getty a pain to use the device, any one has some similar problem? i think the windows reg can be tweaked for disable some parameters of phone and cause problem, maybe a way to tell the phone "when the signal its low, just lost it", in other post (i dont remeber the link, so please if anyone know it plz post it here) i read that there a reg key to set the priority or some like that the carrier give to the phone (in numbers)... well any info its welcome!!!!!
Regards and thanks!
no body has same or similar issue????
