MDA Compact IV v HTC Touch Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Ladies and Gents....
I know that they are exactly the same under the hood but can anyone list the differences cosmetically, how is it that the compact is lighter etc? is it made from something different then the HTC Diamond? differences in the box too?
I am on T-Mobile UK and I am just wondering which one to go with, wether to get a original HTC one and get it unlocked or a compact and stick the sim in and off...
Thanks

MDA buttons are differernt on the front, its rounder, back is rubberised not shiny so not a fingerprint haven, i personally think MDA is a classier looking device, you dont get the htc pouch you get a nice girly grey phone sock with the mda but it does the job but doesnt look very manly taking it out the sock in the pub

Thanks for that, I think i like the look of the HTC device, not sure but just looks more classier....

yep its definitly look classier on the HTC website but i looked at one it a local orange shop yesterday and i was not impressed it was covered in marks and i guess you will spend half the time cleaning it. so its the mda for me and also t-mobile offered the best deal.

I have been told that the HTC is some metalic casing whereas the MDA is plastic? anyone confirm this?

Compact 4 looks far nicer plus t-mobile has the best data package on the high street

The HTC has a metal frame, but the back is plastic. dunno about the compact iv.

I don't know about the MDA, but the HTC has a solid metal frame. It gives it a reassuring weight and feels quite solid. It think it can handle a punch (lost it a few times, but not on concrete).
EDIT: nin0 beat me to it

WTB Kaiser(at&t tilt front face or whole housing)

I tried to remove the att logo off of my tilt which is in perfect condtion btw, and failed. It is kind of smeared on the front of the housing. I have a slight case of ocd with my phone and I would like to keep it perfect. I am looking to buy another housing or front face but its hard to find one online without the camera hole on the front for video calling. They are also expensive 70+ dollars. I would buy the orange one here which is pretty cool http://cnn.cn/shop/tytn-iitilt-full-housing-orange-p-2243.html
but they are out of stock. Its not a big deal however I would like to keep the phone oem and original looking. If no one has one i will be selling it on ebay and buy a new one. email me at [email protected] if you have anything.

I know it sounds insane, but try this before you order anything, since you already are going to get a new case: Get a standard, white sugar cube and use it to scratch off the carrier logo. On a lot of cheap flip phones and even an old blackberry I have, this will take the carrier's painted on logo off without much, if any damage to the original case underneath. The only thing to watch for is to make sure the case or the sugar cube are both dry, otherwise a wet sugar cube could scratch the device's paint as well, leaving ugly scratches. Since you have nothing to lose, try and see how that works out for you. Good luck,
Dave

FWIW, the sugar cube method has been mentioned numerous times in the past, however, much to everyone's chagrin, the AT&T logo on the Tilt is immune to this...

MDA IV Nerfs?

So just wondering.
Seeing as the MDACompact 3 had Wifi disabled with Tmobile in the UK.
Does anyone know what changes there where to the MDA4 other than the rear of the case?
(and why they do this anyway?)
I have a MDA Compact IV from T-Mobile Germany. Its exactly the same as a HTC, beside of changes in back and front cover and branding of cause.
But there are no ther nerfs.
Aye but with the UK MDAiii they removed the Wifi, so its really the UK version I was wondering about.
They haven't removed Wifi. The rom has Youtube and Messenger removed but I flashed it straight away. The device is lighter than the diamond and it sits flat on a table.
it has no sd card slot like the other touch diamonds out there, and it indeed has the fugly grey back.
I still love mine tho

Touch Diamonds dont have a memory card slot either. And i personally quite like the back, it isnt a fingerprint magnet and its slightly rubberised for better grip and it sits flat on a desk.
Definitely not does not have a rubberised back, it’s more of a matt finish then a shiny gloss hence the back is fingerprint resistant.
I was shocked at how much pressure needs to be applied to get the gestures to work. I tend to use the nail as it’s more effective.
Also similar problem to my orbit is that the edge of the screen to the edge of the casing has the tiniest of gaps, but if you get a bit of grit in there, it’s never coming back out!
All in all a great upgrade, I just wished they (HTC) didn’t make so many sacrifices. Think about it, if we had a slightly bigger battery, they could have probably fitted in a micro sd card reader as well. HTC have gone on record saying that adding a micro sd card reader would have added 2 mm to the thickness. Well that 2 mm might have also ment a larger capacity battery!
If you scratch the back with your nail you can feel its rubberised in some way, not like a car tyre rubber, but ever so slightly. Also if you title it to the side and drag it on the desk you can feel it sticks.
Compromises always have to be made, some people prefer a thiner phone, some people prefer a thicker phone with more features.
I thought it was 4mm?
So in Conclusion:
Positives are the back gets no fingerprint marks.
Negatives
No SD card slot
Easy ingress of Dirt around screen
No Youtube
No Messenger
doesnt look great for T-mobile customers then really.
..or am i missing something?
I think you are missing something.
The SD card slot issue is with all Diamonds (and variants) not just the T-Mobile version
The grit around the edge of the screen is again with all Diamonds (and variants) not just the T-Mobile version
The You Tube and Messenger apps are available through custom ROMs or standalone CAB files so can be effectively ignored.
Personally I prefer the look of the T-Mobile version to the HTC version, and as got got it for pocket change, I like it even more!
The Compact IV is also something like 10-15g lighter.
So
Positives:
- Sits flat on a desk
- Has a rubberised back that gets no fingerprints
- Is 10-15g lighter than the diamond
- Camera cover doesnt get all cloudy and blurry
Negatives:
- Requires some work to get youtube/messenger and remove pink branding like installing cabs or flashing the rom
The T-Mobile MDA Compact IV is in fact the HTC TOUCH VICTOR!!!!
Not the HTC TOUCH DIAMOND!!!
(MDA COMPACT IV AND HTC TOUCH VICTOR both have 192mb ram, Diamond had 256mb ram)
Rest of specs is the same!

Yes it is also known as the Victor, but to be honest there is no difference.
FYI both the Diamond and Victor have 192MB ram, the touch pro has 256MB ram.
K so after a quick search on the victor got this
http://www.slashphone.com/tags/htc-victor
something about no A-GPS (what is that?) on certain phones in Taiwan.
Does this mean Victor has a lower level of GPS than the Diamond?
I got the TMUK MDA Compact IV which comes with a crappy grey pouch for the phone. HTC gives a leather pouch...personally I prfer the lether pouch, but Im sure I can buy it somewhere??

XDA Diamond matte black?!

Hey! Does the rear cover from XDA Diamond (from O2) fit on a normal touch diamond? If so, where can I get it? Searched for it but no ressult! Because I aint to happy with a shiney rear cover!
No it doesnt. Different plastic connectors.
What? So you're saying HTC makes a different phone frame just for O2?!?
The O2 XDA is just a standard Touch Diamond with O2 written on the front, thats it.
Maybe you're confused with the HTC Victor, the version Tmobile sells with a flat back.
Bliblub, check your facts or people will make bad decisions based on them.
No its definitly not a normal Diamond just with XDA written on the Front. The back is completly different. Also the HTC Back will Definitly NOT fit on the XDA phone!
XDA Diamond will also get an extra backcover with the new improved Battery.

Where did you get that information from?
Other Forum, where some credible Members tested to interchange the backcovers.
Christ.. I just thought I saw the light of god. Serious, dont you guys think that sooner or later some Chineese are gonna sell a matte black cover for HTC Touch Diamond on eBay? Dont let me down guys!
www.telusmobility.com
CDMA version, beefed up battery, matte black back cover... The reason for the different shape in the rear is to account for the bigger battery. Oh, and check out that price... $149.99! Don't you wish you were a Canadian with Telus right now?
Thats that asian edition!!! With no gps and slightly slower!

What is this, some mis-information campaign? That's a HTC Victor.
Look theres two models, the HTC Touch Diamond and the HTC Victor. The Victor does have gps and is not slower, is this just some racism because it's intended for the Asian markets or something?
The difference between the Diamond and the Victor is the styling and the weight, the Victor is something like 14g lighter, has rounded corners, a flat slightly rubberised back and looks different.
There is no other changes, no internal changes to the specifications at all.
I have a Victor, the MDA Compact IV.
Now with the XDA Ignito I was assuming it would have a Diamond back because it has a Diamond front (in the O2 catalogue) but according to google images it has their own back, which looks slightly different from that of the Victor, but that may be because they're product renders and not real shots.
It should have less ram or something and I read up some were on asian forum that I shouldnt have GPS, so I AINT BEING RACIST
lol i love being asian...
asian: hey can i have some chilli sauce?
white: that'll be 10 cents sir
asian: what! becos i'm asian i gotta pay 10 cents for chilli!!?
white: i'm so sorry, here, have some for free...
its BS the way people go thru great lengths to appear not racist... haha
you might not be racist against us, but we are racist against you nonetheless ;p
Okay I can confirm the fact that the O2 Germany Matte Battery cover won't fit onto an original HTC Touch Diamond. I just tried to do so at work today (one of my co-workers has an unbranded one) and it simply but definitely doesn't fit.
Strange thing though - wouldn't it have been easier just to design a new battery cover for O2?
MDA Compact IV (t-mobile)
The mda compact IV back is also different. So genuine diamond back will not fit mda compact IV. Only a information...

How hard is it to change the Xperia housing?

Hi,
I'm asking for some guidance from the people who have actually changed their housing on the Xperia.
I bought a silver one with some cracks, and some marks on the housing. However, €60 for a brand new black housing would be a good deal for me, as long as I would manage to replace it succesfully.
I changed the housing on my SE P1i from the silver one to a black one before, and already found that quite hard, and now that I've seen the instruction video and read the service manual on how to change the housing, I'm a bit hesitant about replacing it, in the fear that I would break my new €200 smartphone.
So, have any of you done this, how hard was it, and how much experience did you already have dis- and reassembling phones?
Also: Did any of you manage to break anything in the process?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English,
Ed Banger
check this out:

I think you can get complete housing for approx $100 if you shop around. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....Category=20345&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1
Hi I also would like to change my housing because of some cracks, this is my first time. so will it be really difficult for a newbie?
also, where to buy to get the cheapest yet legit?
I found this cnn.cn is it safe everyone? it currently offers 79.99 USD for the full housing. is that the market price? thanks guys.
I changed a lot of phone houses and the one of xperia is easyer than nokia ones. if you follow the instructial movie on youtube you will not have any problem there are some dificult places.
here read this thread its posted by Crank1 its his experiance with changing the housing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550258
80 Dollar is the market price i think the cheaper ones are used or not originaly SE housing.
goog luck with changin the housing.
thanks for the reply, now its quite a dilemma which one I should buy, the used one is 43AUD while the new one is almost 100AUD. Is the new one really worth it? The used one description says its fascia while the 100AUD is OEM. any suggestion would be great. thanks
much harder than it looks

Yhea i beat yha
I did buy a new housing for 80$ and i did get buy a hard case for preventing it getting scratches.
so what did you do, you gonna give it a try?
80$ for housing, it must be gold housing to be charged at the price,
seriously, checkout ebay, amazon they offer lots cheaper.
i would pay $20 for housing only
Ive done a few already, not too hard if you know what you doing and be careful.
I have changed the housing of my Xperia partly. Read the story here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4403612&postcount=14
It's quite easy if the housing fits well, the cheap housing does not fit very well....
hey guys... i dont really want to change my housing cause its more or less 100%...
HOWEVER i have a slight problem with the screen not being tight (mate has the black one and apparently they dont have the problem - and i can feel his one doesnt move a mm when its extended... whereas mine has a slight give)
whats the best method to tighten it?
(will it be obvious when i pry it apart?)

yhea i have to admit the keyboard looks weird but the front is black and that looks weird on the silver one. so you have to make a choice. people see the front first and that makes the impression

Will Diamond 2 digitizer fit on MDA Compact V

A box fell om my T-Mobile MDA Compact V leaving a nasty gouge over the entire height of the screen.
I have been told that the only real remedy is to replace the digitizer.
Unfortunately I have found that the digitizer for the MDA Compact V is not commercialy available where as the one for the Diamond 2 is.
Can anyone tell me if the two are interchangeable? Can I replace the digitizer on my MDA Compact V with one meant for a Diamond 2?
They should be, the pure and mda compact v have the same housingg, so the digitizer will most likely work. Actually I'm nearly positive that it will work perfectly
No it wont fit, the bottom of the digitizer on the Compact V is curved, the Diamond II is flat.
I've got the same problem, the digitzer scratches way to easily. I'm looking at putting the Compact V in a Diamond II housing, I can find the housing and digitizer but cannot find the buttons anywhere.
Whoops, my mistake. I was thinking of the pure, not the regular TD2. You're right, they will not fight. The top is also a little different. And can you not get it shipped from online?
Unfortunately I cannot get it online.
The prices T-Mobile charges for repairs are insane so I contacted a number of 3rd party repair shops. None of them are able to obtain parts for the MDA Compact V.
My own searches found a supplier in china who was rumoured to have them but will not reply to my inquiries.
So for now I will just live with the scratches.
there are some replacement cases on ebay
MDA compact V digitizer replacement
Hi,
Just got my digitizer today. bought it off eBay from --link removed because of aggressive spam tactics of seller-- China.
i placed my order on 12/4/10 and with the volcano smoke it still made it very fast!
so I'm well happy!
will start replacing it now and post how it goes....
ok i have a problem:
all the guides i found where for the diamond 2 and not
t-mobile compact v(topaz100 TS). and it looks like it has a lower cover over two of the screws and i can't get it open...LOL any help and i'll even post some pics...
The two screws are accessible from front.
Beneath the buttons is a piece of plastic with the T-Mobile logo.
Pop this off and find the missing screws
