Will Diamond 2 digitizer fit on MDA Compact V - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A box fell om my T-Mobile MDA Compact V leaving a nasty gouge over the entire height of the screen.
I have been told that the only real remedy is to replace the digitizer.
Unfortunately I have found that the digitizer for the MDA Compact V is not commercialy available where as the one for the Diamond 2 is.
Can anyone tell me if the two are interchangeable? Can I replace the digitizer on my MDA Compact V with one meant for a Diamond 2?

They should be, the pure and mda compact v have the same housingg, so the digitizer will most likely work. Actually I'm nearly positive that it will work perfectly

No it wont fit, the bottom of the digitizer on the Compact V is curved, the Diamond II is flat.
I've got the same problem, the digitzer scratches way to easily. I'm looking at putting the Compact V in a Diamond II housing, I can find the housing and digitizer but cannot find the buttons anywhere.

Whoops, my mistake. I was thinking of the pure, not the regular TD2. You're right, they will not fight. The top is also a little different. And can you not get it shipped from online?

Unfortunately I cannot get it online.
The prices T-Mobile charges for repairs are insane so I contacted a number of 3rd party repair shops. None of them are able to obtain parts for the MDA Compact V.
My own searches found a supplier in china who was rumoured to have them but will not reply to my inquiries.
So for now I will just live with the scratches.

there are some replacement cases on ebay

MDA compact V digitizer replacement
Hi,
Just got my digitizer today. bought it off eBay from --link removed because of aggressive spam tactics of seller-- China.
i placed my order on 12/4/10 and with the volcano smoke it still made it very fast!
so I'm well happy!
will start replacing it now and post how it goes....
ok i have a problem:
all the guides i found where for the diamond 2 and not
t-mobile compact v(topaz100 TS). and it looks like it has a lower cover over two of the screws and i can't get it open...LOL any help and i'll even post some pics...

The two screws are accessible from front.
Beneath the buttons is a piece of plastic with the T-Mobile logo.
Pop this off and find the missing screws

New front cover

Hi there,
Does anyone know/have some experience with spare parts for the Wizard?
Is it possible to have your front cover (Qtek 9100) replaced by a new one (e.g. due to damages)?
Thanks.
since you seem to be dutch... check the Qtek.nl forums; they did mention they could replace the front covers where the appliquee's have worn off the buttons, as (so a rep. stated) that was likely a manufacturing error. Not sure what your damages are; I guess if you cracked it, you could still send it in for repairs. You'd be without the device for a while though?
Might you find anything, please post it here. I'm looking for a new battery cover, but am unable to find one...
(cracked the 2 plastic knobs that keep it in place..)
Same thing happened to my Dopod 838. Slipped from my pocket and the front cover is damaged, nothing major though, just some scratches but still, very annoying...
Sistech Indonesia did have the front cover, but it was the old version. Btw, the "Dopod" logo on old front cover version is fadeable. After two weeks on my pocket, it started to fade, rub it a little bit it's gone  So I think I'll wait for the new version (with new Dopod logo printed on the bottom of the screen) front cover.

It is possible, you would have to send it to "Dynafix" in nuth, NL.
They do repairs (under and out of warranty) for Qtek, but you probably will have to pay (+/-100 Euro, fall-damage is no warranty). Thats my experience. But if you have defects within warranty they will repair those for free.

Spare Parts
You may want to take a look on Ebay as I have noticed several non working display phones for sale there. I am sure that the cases would be correct as I have seen these displays at the phone dealers and they are anatomically correct.
I have some new front covers and housing parts right now, mainly for O2 XDA Mini S. But also one for T-Mobile MDA Vario and for VPA Compact S.
Feel free to contact me via P.M.
Best regards
gluecky
I'm still on a quest for battery and camera cover for the cingular 8100 (no camera), is there any news on getting those (somewhere in the world, don't care )

Find some links on this page:

After many hours I got to open the Kaiser without causing any damage.
Tips:
- To remove the screen you just need to remove the 4 screws from behind the moving part.
- Be carefull because when you remove the cover there's a silver tiny screw connected to the speaker that you need to remover or you'll cause damage to the speaker and videoconferencing camera.
- I just used: T6, T4 and Phillips screwdrivers.
I'm posting some pictures.
Hope this helps to someone else...

Mario Nissan
www.tecnosinergia.com
currently trying right now (so i can see which connector i have) 4 screws are out but nothing seems to have losened up for removal
After removing the 4 screws you'll need a very thin tool to insert it between the screen cover and the screen casing. You have to be very carefull not to damage the cover, and make sure not to pull the cover too hard because you'll need to remove the speaker board screw first.
To remove the cover with the thin tool I started at the top and bottom of the device and then slided it over the whole device until the cover got loose.
Hope this helps...
Regards,
Mario
Thanks for your help, looking to acquire a plastic tool for that...dont' want to use anything metalic and increase the risk of damaging anything more
I can't tell from the detail of the pictures, but how "integrated" is the front camera? Is it something I can possibly just "snap in" on my Tilt, or does a whole section have to be modified? I don't mind the idea of dremeling in a hole on the front panel.
Anyone know how I can quickly obtain the front camera and required connections/circuitry to apply it to my Tilt?
Hey Mario, Does this mean you didn't send in you Kaiser to HTC? I assume u went thru NJbridges. If so, are you up and running now? (determining what I should do)
I would also like to know how plausible it would be to add a front camera to the tilt.
What kind of connection is it?
Where can we get the part?
Hello all,
When removing the front cover you have to be carefull because the borad that holds the camera and the speaker is scrwed to the cover and if you pull it too hard you'll break the cables.
I went thru njbridges and I'm waiting for the replacement LCD, it's supposed to be here on Monday or Tuesday. I'll let you know the results. IMPORTANT: There are two LCD models differentiated by the color of the cable and connector, make sure you check that before ordering.
I didn't send my device to HTC because I live in Mexico and I needed a US address, plus they said the replacement could cost between $170 and $370 and I think they don't have the replacement LCD's in stock yet.
If you have a Tilt I don't think you'll be able to add a front camera to it.
Hope this helps!
Best Regards,
Mario.
Thanks Mario, still haven't fount a proper tool to open it as of yet. But please keep me posted on if you got you TyTn II working with the new screen, I have the same feeling about HTC US and the screen. got two different answers on two different calls.

So there is two LCD models? That explains why my replacement Tilt (which I sent back because I did not like, waiting for another) had a screen with a weired greenish tint to it.
Dude where did you get your LCD screen replacement? What's NJBRIDGES? Googled it but couldn't find a link. I need one badly!
Is this a universal LCD screen? Can I use older LCD screens from Blue Angel? Hermes? Etc?

search njbridges in the forum its a member here that sells them. Send him a PM.
no its not universal so don't bother trying to connect an older LCD to it.

Hey is it not just cheeper to sell it on ebay and get a kaiser? But i didnt message u to make fun of u lol i was really interested in knowing why you would need a front camera on a tilt? I am assuiming you are using it with ATT (I have a MDA VARIO III which has the front camera and plan to use it with ATT) and I thought they dont support Video Telephony...or do they now?
Hey Mario,
Just checking if you had any progress with this yet.
Hello,
I just came back from my trip and the UPS package with the new LCD was waiting for me...
I replaced the LCD in about 30 minutes and so far I've been using my Kaiser for about 3 hours without any problems.
I got my LCD screen from njbridges.
Happy again!!!!

Mario.

MDA Compact IV v HTC Touch Diamond

Ladies and Gents....
I know that they are exactly the same under the hood but can anyone list the differences cosmetically, how is it that the compact is lighter etc? is it made from something different then the HTC Diamond? differences in the box too?
I am on T-Mobile UK and I am just wondering which one to go with, wether to get a original HTC one and get it unlocked or a compact and stick the sim in and off...
Thanks
MDA buttons are differernt on the front, its rounder, back is rubberised not shiny so not a fingerprint haven, i personally think MDA is a classier looking device, you dont get the htc pouch you get a nice girly grey phone sock with the mda but it does the job but doesnt look very manly taking it out the sock in the pub
Thanks for that, I think i like the look of the HTC device, not sure but just looks more classier....
yep its definitly look classier on the HTC website but i looked at one it a local orange shop yesterday and i was not impressed it was covered in marks and i guess you will spend half the time cleaning it. so its the mda for me and also t-mobile offered the best deal.
I have been told that the HTC is some metalic casing whereas the MDA is plastic? anyone confirm this?
Compact 4 looks far nicer plus t-mobile has the best data package on the high street
The HTC has a metal frame, but the back is plastic. dunno about the compact iv.

I don't know about the MDA, but the HTC has a solid metal frame. It gives it a reassuring weight and feels quite solid. It think it can handle a punch (lost it a few times, but not on concrete).
EDIT: nin0 beat me to it

How hard is it to change the Xperia housing?

Hi,
I'm asking for some guidance from the people who have actually changed their housing on the Xperia.
I bought a silver one with some cracks, and some marks on the housing. However, €60 for a brand new black housing would be a good deal for me, as long as I would manage to replace it succesfully.
I changed the housing on my SE P1i from the silver one to a black one before, and already found that quite hard, and now that I've seen the instruction video and read the service manual on how to change the housing, I'm a bit hesitant about replacing it, in the fear that I would break my new €200 smartphone.
So, have any of you done this, how hard was it, and how much experience did you already have dis- and reassembling phones?
Also: Did any of you manage to break anything in the process?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad English,
Ed Banger
check this out:
For front: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcDqyEyC_HY
& rear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWDurQrRt-Y
I think you can get complete housing for approx $100 if you shop around. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....Category=20345&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=1
Hi I also would like to change my housing because of some cracks, this is my first time. so will it be really difficult for a newbie?
also, where to buy to get the cheapest yet legit?
I found this cnn.cn is it safe everyone? it currently offers 79.99 USD for the full housing. is that the market price? thanks guys.
I changed a lot of phone houses and the one of xperia is easyer than nokia ones. if you follow the instructial movie on youtube you will not have any problem there are some dificult places.
here read this thread its posted by Crank1 its his experiance with changing the housing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550258
80 Dollar is the market price i think the cheaper ones are used or not originaly SE housing.
goog luck with changin the housing.
thanks for the reply, now its quite a dilemma which one I should buy, the used one is 43AUD while the new one is almost 100AUD. Is the new one really worth it? The used one description says its fascia while the 100AUD is OEM. any suggestion would be great. thanks
much harder than it looks

Yhea i beat yha
I did buy a new housing for 80$ and i did get buy a hard case for preventing it getting scratches.
so what did you do, you gonna give it a try?
80$ for housing, it must be gold housing to be charged at the price,
seriously, checkout ebay, amazon they offer lots cheaper.
i would pay $20 for housing only
Ive done a few already, not too hard if you know what you doing and be careful.
I have changed the housing of my Xperia partly. Read the story here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4403612&postcount=14
It's quite easy if the housing fits well, the cheap housing does not fit very well....
hey guys... i dont really want to change my housing cause its more or less 100%...
HOWEVER i have a slight problem with the screen not being tight (mate has the black one and apparently they dont have the problem - and i can feel his one doesnt move a mm when its extended... whereas mine has a slight give)
whats the best method to tighten it?
(will it be obvious when i pry it apart?)

Digitizer for Vogue

OK, so I found the housing I was looking for and ordered a replacement digitizer from Ebay(on mine the screen started to chip), but the one I ordered came and when I put it on, it was so blurry I almost couldn't read a text or email. So I figured I would check here and see if anyone had an extra digitizer to sell me. Send me a PM if you do. Thanks
dont know if u have one yet, but u got a generic or chinese HTC digitizer
if u order one from the US it will be better.
I got housing+digitizer from hong kong, it looks perfect. Price was $26 shipped. I have my old digitizer, slightly scratched 1 year+ of use in pocket. If you interested.
I also got a housing and digitizer from hong kong but the digitizer was fuzzy, they sent a replacement and it is good, but the last digitizer i bought was from - http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370351357459&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If you are in USA, then I highly recommend this link (below). Tried several others, not as good and cost more. This one shows digitizer separate from front housing bezel in picture. But they come put together. You get both for less cost than dubious quality digitizer alone elsewhere.
