hey
considering most of the lore here is for a different version of diamond than mine, i want to be cautious with flashing and such. i had a nasty first experience. i have a telus diamond, it is cdma, that has the curvy edges and matte back. as far as the rom goes, i think i will stick with juicy rom. he told me i gota apply the unlocker first, and then flash the rom. but i am wondering whether the radio upgrade that is featured on here will work for my phone. reception is really important to, as is battery life, so i would like improve both.
any comments, help would be appriciated.

Hi,
i have just bought an O2 Stellar (unlocked) from ebay. Until now i have always got my phones direct form the network so a used phone is a first for me. My current device is a Tytn (TM Vario II)
What do i need to do when it arrives in order to get it working with my Tmobile SIM?
I intend on trying some new roms on it after xmas, are there any that favour gps performance? i am hoping to do a bit of geocaching.

Welcome to xda-dev. The first thing you should do as a new person here is to read the wiki for Kaisers (which includes the XDA Stellar, O2s variant), also the sticky posts here. There's lots of info there that'll be helpful. I've never owned a Stellar, just the generic HTC version but I would imagine unless it's already been unlocked by the previous owner, it'll be sim locked to O2 so you may need to unlock it. The simple way to see if this is the case is to try your T-Mobile sim in it. I think it'll depend where you reside as to whether other changes will be required because not all T-Mobile network characteristics are the same and some locations have specialist/uncommon settings.
As far as ROMs with good GPS performance go, the current UK World Wide English Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM has very poor GPS performance here in the UK compared to the original Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM and that seems to be fairly common with many of the WM 6.1 ROMs although different radios teld to make a difference according to reports here. Again it'll depend where you reside.
hi,
the device had better be unlocked.. it is advertised as so! It is claimed it is only 6 months old and came unlocked from the network. I guess being only six months old it will have a 6.1 rom already on it so i'll see how i get on wth that first then think about putting the older rom on it.
i am in UK, East Lothian to be a little more precice.
hi,
i am really struggling to get my phone to work for internet settings for t-mobile.
can anyone tell me the password for tmobile internet or is it user specific?
I just found this FANTASTIC thread :

anyone needing phone setting should go here!!!
Hi all,
Ive seen a few threads opened up but redirected to the radio thread with no answer.
Im pretty technical and have gone through a few phones. Ive got a Kaiser now and im in Australia on Telstra.
The threads that i have seen detail how if you are Telstra customer and are on a newer radio people you are talking to get your voice FADING in and FADING out
Can you assist?
Cheers
Anthony
bump - what no one has come across any fade issues?
Nah, none of us are daft enough to use telstra
Seriously though - I'm with three, never heard of this issue with the tytn. Theres a 1.70 radio available at HTC HongKong e-Club or through the Kaiser ROM thread, its easy to flash/upgrade - just connect your cable & run the exe. Maybe that'll help ?

I take it that means your flashing to the ROM I referred you to (detailed in your post on the ultimate radio thread at 11.38 yesterday) means the WWE Hong Kong ROM/Radio/SPL upgrade both I and snachez referred to has made no difference? If you've not been able to flash that ROM yet, give it a try first and let us know how you get on.
Update :
Flashed to HK SEA Radio 1.70.19.09
Certainly better than 1.71.xx.xx but still not 100%
Hmmm - i dont think im going to get much traction out of the new polaris roms but ill give it a shot and report back

Did you try the accompanying HK WWE ROM and HTC SPL 3.34 (the complete package) as well? If you have and you're still having probs then given that this combination has been found to work OK with at least one other Aussie network (from reports here at xda-dev), it's time to complain to Telstra and see what they have to say.

No i havent tried the complete package.
The problem is Telstra is unique with their nextG UMTS 850 network and as they didnt bring in the Kaiser to Australia they would laugh at you if you asked any questions (trust me i have some inside knowledge )
Its back to trying different roms.
i am in Au with telstra gsm (not 3g though) and have used multiple roms/radios with no issues with calls.

So given all the other feedback, will the complete SEA WWE ROM package be the first? Maybe someone with the ROM can verify whether the Connection Wizard lists Telstra as an option under Australias network options...
Hmmm if it comes to dire straits ill load the entire rom as suggested but the history of this phone and my gut tells me the problem is specific to the Radio ROM.
What ive learnt
This is only a Telstra NextG issue (not seen on optus/voda/3).
Specific to the 850UMTS band
Niki and Emo Radios similar results.
Im currently testing the new polaris Radio 1.59.44.02 and so far with better results. Its only been a day so far so ill post back ... again!
Telstra Kaiser owners feel free to bump this...
I don't have a Kaiser but a Polaris with Telstra and that runs fine @ 850 mhz with Polaris radio 1.59.44.02
Crystal clear reception and no fade in/out.
I believe the hardware in our two devices are similar/identical, so I don't think it's a network issue - I think you are on the right track trying different rom/radio combinations until you find one that works best. Good luck.

Your spot on .. POLARIS radio 1.59.44.02 has had the best results out of all so far.
People report they get the odd crackle but no fade in and or out.
What does HTC Australia say?
Hmm, given HTC have a presence in Australia and their recommended Radio for the TyTN II sold there currently shows 1.65.16.25 on their website (the one that gave me next to no GPS functionality when released here for UK customers), how has anyone done getting an official HTC solution to this problem with the TyTN II and the Aussie Telstra network? Is HTC Australia even aware of the problem? I hope they are more responsive that HTC here in the UK.

As far as I know there is no HTC Australia - only an importer. All of the HTC support for this region is run out of Asia, and in my experience, not too flash.
I've been using a TyTn II all year on the Telstra Next G network for my business (average 20 calls a day) and have flashed a few roms in that time but have never had anyone complain about sound quality with any of the Roms I've used. I use a Jawbone 2 bluetooth headset most of the time and I'm currently using the 3.34.721.2 WWE Rom with the 1.70.19.09 Radio and HardSPL 3.29 hard2 and can't recommend it highly enough, battery life is brilliant !!!
Hope this may be useful info.
I am new to this on the diamond, so I have a pretty basic question. Sorry for the bother. I have a NAM version diamond. When HTC came out with their new ROM last week or so, I contacted them and they said it was not designed for my phone and to wait and see if one is put out for the NAM version (has US 3g bands and no front cam). Will I run into any problems with installing ROMs, etc that are here. I read the sticky on what to do first, and understand to do all the HardSPL, etc. Not exactly sure about the radio and actual ROMs that I would be able to use. Just want to make sure its compatible so that I have the least chance of bricking my phone. My last time customizing phones was with the razr v3i, and there were certain roms that could/could not be applied to the phone depending on if it the type of v3i. Thanks again for helping out a new guy.
does your device haev a sim card slot? if it does not then it is a CDMA device and you should be flashing CDMA roms. most of the ones on here are GSM. just check in the rom threads if the rom is a CDMA one or not
many CDMA roms can be found over at the forums on ppcgeeks.com
yeah its a gsm model. I'm just looking to make sure that any of them are fair game, and if the radio, etc matter. I guess I'm a little more cautious since when I talked with HTC, they said that the new ROM would not work on my phone, and so I wanted to make sure if there were any that I should/shouldn't use that are posted here considering that I think most don't have the US 3G version phone.
Just found out I have a Diam 110 if that makes any difference
Just wondering if anyone had any luck playing with their TELUS diamonds.. I got one but considering it doesn't have a SIM, I'm alot more reluctant to play around with it in case of bricking.
Thanks for the help.

Couldn't be easier.... your problem is that you are in the wrong forum alltogether... head over to PPCGeeks.com and they will set you straight. I have a telus diamond and i put a new rom on it about once or twice a month (I get board easy). XDA has a much stronger GSM side than CDMA - but there is stuff here... Its quite safe as long as you follow the instructions. I've done about 10 phones for colleges and family with zero difficulties.
CDMA Diamond no problem
I have flashed lots of ROMs too. I just make sure I stick with the CDMA section of ppcgeeks.com or xda-developers.com and all is good. I even took the stock rom and rebuilt it. When I bought mine I noticed that someone had spl unlocked it already. ppcgeeks has great instructions for the basics. xda-developers has the more advanced stuff in easier to find places.
I have had a t-mobile G1 since they first came out, only problem is that i`ve been using it on the Rogers network in Canada. The problem with this is that I can not get 3g on my phone, only Edge...which at times is rather painful. I know you can root the Rogers G1 but from what i`m reading there are limitations to the Roms you can put on it. I`m using cyanogenMod (latest) and i use switchrom to try out any new roms that are put out there. Also use A2SD.
What are the limitations, can i still do all that on the rogers G1. If not, is it worth it to sacrifice the 3g to keep these features
There are two ways to root the rogers dream. The first way keeps the original radio but you can only flash roms with a 32A kernel. There are ports for cyanogen and others, check out the sapphire development section. The second way will flash the G1 radio and you can flash any rom you could on the G1. There are some connection problems reported with the second method (mainly a bit slower edge speeds). I originally rooted my phone using this method and it is definitely still usable especially in 3g areas.
I recently bought a Roger's branded Dream off Ebay and rooted via the Haykuro method (which changes the radio). I am a Roger's customer who is coming from a BB Bold 9000 and I can tell you that 3g makes a small difference in cities.
First note is that a stock Roger's Dream has, frustrating at best, 3g connectivity when you are under three bars of service. IMO, EDGE in cities (I am in Toronto) provides what you need. ROMS correct the 3g discrepancy, however 3g is a power hungry beast on the Dream and EDGE has been doing me well.
Second note is that a newer Roger's Dream is a pain in the ass to root compared to our southern neighbours. I lucked out on my Ebay purchase and had a .0009 SPL. Cyanogen offers a method on their Wiki which allows you to keep the Roger's radio but it limits what you can flash as previously stated. The Haykuro method which changes the radio allows you to flash almost any ROM but I have yet to run anything stable.
Just a little food for thought, hope this helped
