Is it possible that a registry change or key deletion can knock out 3G service? I could go into the background for the question but I don't think anyone here cares for the minutae. I can connect to EDGE just fine, but if I switch to 3G, the H icon appears but no communication (phone, SMS, internet) can be made, and on a soft-reset I get an endless signal search. It all started while screwing around with GPS (stock AT&T 6.1 ROM at the time). I've had intermittent and short-lived luck getting 3G back via ROM / radio flashes, which leads me to believe it is software-related rather than hardware.
I've searched to the point of wanting to slam my skull into a brick wall and to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If you've flashed different ROMs then I'm pretty sure it's not a software issue. Might be your hardware.

Hi
New owner of this Tytn II and have a few questions I hope someone in here could answer.
I've got the following versions: (is this all the latest ones?)
rom 1.56.409.4
radio 1.27.12.11
protocol 22.45.88.07w
The device is bought and used in Norway. It's a clean HTC, no telco branding.
1)
I can't remove the cover on the back to remove the battery to get my serial number. The reason is that I'm afraid to harm the phone while putting too much pressure on it. And believe me, I'm using a lot of force to try to open it.
It's not put on wrong, since there is no glitches and everything seems ok.
So, is there a way to get the serial number via software or something?
2)
Signal strength on wifi is incredible low.
And yes I've tried to use it both with powersaving and maximum effect.
I'm standing 2 meters away from my linksys router and it tells me that I've got 80% strength. If I turn around, getting my body in the middle, it drops to 25%. Going 4-5 meters away, free sight, it's around 50%
This is a joke right? Must be a software bug I hope. Or a serious hardware bug or too protected internal antennas?
Any clue on this one?
My ipaq hx4700 is way better on wifi then this, getting 100% all the way in my house.
3)
Is there a way to use MSN with the wifi connection and not only use the 3G connection?
That's it this time.
I'll just dive into the forum even more to find other usefull hints.
(Yes I've searched for answers to my questions)
Wifi range of this device has never been marvelous (but still better than on my old hermes). I get 50% being at 3 meters of the AP (which is behind a wall).
Your version seems to be slightly nwer than mine; I have a 1.56.405.5 (Default HTC QWERTY English)
And finaly, WLM works fine through wifi
Thank you.
Well, too bad the wifi is so bad but nothing to do with it.
And yes, I got the IM working over wifi now, setting all applications that needs to go online to use the work network profile instead of the telco network.
Anything on the serial number or do I have to crack open the device? hehe
Please help. I have been with o2 now for a while and I’ve never had a reception problem this bad… I’ve brought my friends Kaiser. On T-mobile he had great reception around where we live and work but since I have unlocked it I have never had a satisfactory level of reception. I have tried lots of SPL’s, ROMs and radio ROMs (including the stock o2 one) and they are all as bad as each other, give or take. The number of bars of reception varies across the range but they all have the same massive dead spots with no radio reception at all. I have tried other phones i.e. nokia’s, samsung’s and a Hermes I had none of these dead spots.
Now here is where I may betray my noob status, I was beginning to believe it was something wrong with the o2 settings in general because it is like the phone is only picking up reception from certain cell towers (maybe o2 ones?!?) and ignoring others, is this possible or am I just grabbing at straws? Then I discovered a most promising the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-335074.html which is full of people with 3G faults perhaps my problem is linked to the 3G mast nearby and so in fact my phone only works where there is a poor signal and no 3G which forces it to use GSM. I have tried to prove this but my current ROM Mobile Vista 4.00 SeaDragon 5.2.21109 seems unable to remember the GSM setting, the phone locks up and require a soft reset. I am sure it can’t be a hardware fault as suggested in the above thread because my friend had the phone working flawlessly.
Any suggestions as to what I can do. I’ve been at this problem for over 4 months now and am close to admitting defeat, I believe the problem may be beyond me...
I believe you should be posting at General Kaiser Forum instead
My strongest suggestion is go back to factory (OEM) including the SPL and ROM, so you can be sure it's not ROM/Radio. If that's ok, then you need to carefully match the Radio/SPL/ROM. Some radio is only for WM6.0 (check the Radio FAQ, included on the sticky FAQ thread).
Ok I have made a bit of progress but would like some advice. Now that I am aware of the 3G fault I have been keeping an eye on my signal and each time just before the signal dies the phone is trying to switch from gsm/edge to 3G/HSPDA. I have flashed my rom again this time with a reconstructed T-mobile UK rom that I found through the revert to original rom and SPl for waranty returns (Thanks a lot jcespi2005). I now have a 3G/H signal (phew atleast my phones not bricked) but am unable to make or receive calls, I assume this is because it is set up to use T-mobile settings not O2. Is there a cab out there that would let me change the settings for the OEM operator rom so I can keep this working rom. Failing that does anyone have any suggestions for a cooked rom for O2?
Hi everyone
my first post, I have a problem with my Diamond on Orange.
My data connection seems to lock out if I have been in an area of low coverage this results in not being able to connect to my Gmail account using the email function of the phone.
I have downloaded and installed the wm 6.1 patch for fixing corrupt email account. The workaround now though is when it still locks me out of using my data connection I have to reboot the phone.
I have also installed the official new rom from the Orange site, can't access the HTC site ROMs as my device serial code is linked to Orange
It's very frustrating having to reboot your phone 6 times a day (my office is in a low coverage area)
also since last week the phone makes no sound for SMS, MMS, calendar reminders etc. I have checked the sounds associated with these events and they play ok when you click to test them but not when an SMS etc arrives
please help, I'm locked in to this phone till next Aug
Thanks in advance
Steve
Try this...
Rather than rebooting your device, have you tried going to the settings tab on TF3D, selecting communications and tap the 'Data Connection' setting? I'm not sure about the stock Orange ROM, it may not have the option to switch the data connection on and off. If it hasn't, try turning Airplane mode on then off again. Your connection should then be re-established.
As for your sound issue... make sure you have the check box selected for 'Events'. Go to Settings / Personal / Sounds & Notifications and check the top most box
Thanks for the info Graham.
I can confirm that the box 'Events (warnings, system events)' is checked but still no sounds on sms, calendar event etc
not sure where I find the settings tab on TF3D but can try the airplane mode tomorrow at work were I have the low coverage issue.
Thanks for taking the time to give the advice.
Is there a new rom out there I could install as a permanent fix for the data issue?
Thanks
Steve
Mmmm...
Not sure whether a ROM change will cure your problems. It may just be related to your carrier (Orange). I've tried numerous ROM's and radios, but never had an issue with the data. You could try flashing a different radio. Do you know what version your device is running now?
If you look here, you'll find all the various radios available. I'd definitely start with a radio change before flashing ROM's if you're happy with your Orange ROM that is
Hi
The Radio is 1.00.25.05, (ROM is 1.93.405.1 WWE)
are these any good ones or should I update to a new Radio
Thanks again
Steve
Mmmm...
That's what I thought... both the ROM and Radio version are very old (by XDA standards!). I would certainly upgrade your radio, if not the ROM as well. Make sure you upgrade the HardSPL first though or you'll end up with a nice paper weight!
Follow this tutorial to the letter and you'll be fine. That's all I did. Most of the custom ROM's here don't include a Radio, so you'll need to upgrade that seperately. It's all in the guide. If you've already upgraded the SPL, you can go ahead and flash a ROM / Radio.
The ROM I'm using is Gen.Y D2 R4.2 which you'll find in the ROM section along with a host of others. In my opinion, it's the best by far
Thanks Graham will read all the info and give it a go
Steve
Hi
Managed to get radio 1.13.25.24 on but can't find a live link for ROM Y D2 R4.2
any chance you could post one for me
Many thanks for all the help up to now, I'm realy looking forward to my Diamond working like it should
Thanks
Steve
Link...
Hi. The download links are halfway down Post #2 of the ROM thread... CLICK HERE
Hi
Thanks for all your help. I am now running on radio 1.13.25.24 and ROM Y D2 R4.2
Early days but there is defiantly some improvement in data connection/reception but I am still getting the issue where the data connection corrupts and won't connect even when full network coverage is restored.
Thanks for the workaround suggestion re turning airplane mode on then off this does work and negates having to re-boot.
Is there any way I can overcome the basic issue re the data connection corrupting in low coverage areas?
Is a radio available that will up the coverage even more, battery life is not important to me?
Thanks again
Steve
Tip...
Another way, which may be quicker. On the settings tab in TF3D, tap connections and you should have a 'Data Connection' option. If you switch this off to disconnect your GSM data connection, the next time your device needs to connect it will re-establish the connection. This doesn't help with your issue, but it is quicker than turning Airplane mode on and off.
It might be worth posting in the Radio thread to see if anyone has experienced this on Orange and found a workaround. Like I said, I've not experienced data issues like this, so I can't really help. You've changed your ROM and your Radio, so it seems it's not ROM or Radio specific... it does seem to point to carrier??
Hi Graham
I’ve spent some time getting used to the new ROM, it seems to be a big improvement over the standard Orange one and I do occasionally get a data connection in my office which is unusual. I think what I really need is some sort of signal booster stuck to the window.
One thing I notice with the new ROM is a lack of a calculator; can I add this on in some way?
Thanks
Steve
I have an AT&T Tilt, and I ran the unlocker on it.
Recently I installed the TPC V11 Chumpstyle rom which is a 6.5 rom. Things seemed fine on it for the first couple days but then I noticed it was constantly disconnecting without notice from the service. Texts would randomly stop going through, and when I would go to make a call, it would end the call after about 10 seconds of unsuccessful dialing. Same with the data.. no browser would work.
I decided to try out different radios and different SPLs, even mirroring peoples setups which I assume were working since they have them in their sig lines.
These are the combinations I have tried:
HardSPL 3.29
USED:
1.70.19.09 - Intermittent. Only gets off 4-5 text messages before disconnect.
1.65.21.18 - No 3G connection
1.71.09.01 - No Service
1.70.18.02 - Intermittent disconnect
1.65.17.54 - Long connection time after startup - refuses to connect
HardSPL 3.56
USED:
1.64.08.21 - 4 minute connection time on startup, camera doesn't work
1.71.09.01 - No Service
1.70.19.09 - Intermittent disconnect
1.70.18.02 - No Service
HardSPL 3.34 Dave
USED:
1.70.18.02 - No Service
1.70.19.09 - Intermittent
What surprises and annoys me most is right now I have the stock rom/radio
Rom: 3.57.502.2
Radio: 1.65.21.18
and it does the same exact thing. It is very intermittent, works for 5 minutes after startup, and then nothing.
Nothing on the forum I have been able to search has helped me with this issue, and any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
one more thing comes to mind that might be worth a shot...
try to disable the 3G/HSDPA mode altogether and configure the device for plain GSM mode only. see how that fairs with the stock configuration or any of the "recommended" combinations of SPL and radio.
ASC - thanks for the reply. I am not certain how to disable 3g/hsdpa modes. I'll look around to figure it out and then post my results here.
Thanks again
It seems that the edge still connects, but I am having the same issues. Just randomly stops all connection
This is the same issues mine developed within the last month. No luck yet tho.

Just lovely. I really would like a way to fix it. I don't plan on paying 125.00 for the insurance costs to get a new one, and really don't want to spend 300.00 on a TP2.
Thanks for your post, keep me updated if possible!
After looking at some of the newer thread posts, I think I may have a hardware issue here. Anyone able to tell offhand whether it isn't or if it could be, and/or if it is possible to fix?
I swapped out my motherboard with a friends who had given me thiers last year due to a broke screen. I did a Sprite back up and everything has been good for 24 hours.
Hey I think I have a similiar problem
2 weeks ago I was home and just lost service while the rest of my family and i usually had serivice. I would get service occasionally but only for 30 seconds or so and maybe like once every 15 minutes.
So I went back to school and for 2 straight weeks I had absolutely no problems.. and now I'm home again and I have the same problem..
Also last night I started using an old RAZR and it worked fine untill this afternoon seems to be acting the same, but when I went to ATT last time I was given a new SIM card...
Really weird.
I went through the SIM card swap as well. From what rob said it sounds like a hardware issue. Bad batch of AT&T Tilts all going bad around the same time?
I used advanced config to shut off data connections and then set my band to GSM and mine works fine now..
I just did the same using Advanced Config. I'll see what happens. I have no "Band" setting tab.
Did that help mini... after i did that mine "kinda" worked but then when i switched the band it worked perfect. I think you might have do so something in advanced to get the band tab to appear in "Connections." Ill try to figure out what I did
Try to see if you have the "Band" tab under "Phone", sorry it's not under connections, its right after network. I I switched network type from auto to GSM. If the page isnt there in advanced config under phones there is an option to "Show Band Page"
Also same intermittant issue w HSDPA
All,
My rom (Athene) has a setting under connections to disable HSDPA. I've found the phone works pretty well with HSDPA disconnected. I've also tried different radios and still having the same problem.
My assumption is that the TILT (8925) was never really designed for HSDPA or that the spec has changed since AT*T has started implementing it.
When I have HSDPA turned on, it works for about 2-5 mins then I cannot use Medianet or make/receive calls.
However, I know that HSDPA is working sometimes, because I did a speed test and found that I got approx 450kbps w/ HSDPA turned on. With EDGE, I only get 140-150kbps.
I say we all petition AT&T (or whoever your provider is) as well as HTC and require that they provide us with new versions of the TILT that actually support HSDPA properly. Obviously, if that many of us have the same problem and we all have different rom's and radios, it's got to be a network or hardware issue.
I plan to call / write ATT & HTC today. I'll let you know my findings.
Regards,
Austin
It's definitely got to be HTC/AT&T's fault. This is no coincidence. This is bs.
Well, I just got off the phone with Asurion and I have some good news.
As the Kaiser is no longer manufactured, and the HTC Fuze replacement they offered me does not fit my needs, they are replacing my Kaiser with a brand new Rhodium with a 12 month warranty. Farewell, Kaiser forum!
Hi guys, I would love if anyone could help or has had this issue before, I have an htc tilt build of the kaiser, and ever since I flashed it into anything custom, tried a bunch of different radio's and hard spl's and rom versions. I even reverted everything back to the stock settings as best I could. I couldn't find the original wm 6.0 stuff it had so I flashed everything (including the hardspl back to normal and the wm 6.1 update for the kaiser. Either I may be doing something wrong... or I bricked my phone, but since its operating normally aside from the signal, I don't think I bricked it.
Heres essentially what it does, I turn it on, it works for X amount of time, usually a few mins then won't do anything, calls or data, even if it has signal, which seems to get weaker or no signal at all after a few minuites.
Now an odd thing is, if I tether the internet to my laptop with internet sharing, alot of the time the connection runs stable for several hours if I tether it within a few mins of a bootup.
I'm sorry it was so wordy, I just figured any information could help out, I'd really appreciate it, and not having to restart my phone alot the time would be great
Currently I'm running stylus black's latest full build (5.0?) on hard spl 3.29 and the radio 1.70.19.09. the stuff recommended on the thread.
Try a different Radio the recommended just means tested by chef and works doesn't mean it will work for all people since so many variables involved in choosing radio.
Hi, was your issue resolved using a different radio.. My friend has signal problem as well. It only happens when the keyboard is open.. is this a hardware realated problem?
