Pink Pixels on graphics - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi Everyone,
I'm very new to the forums - if I am posting in the wrong place, asking an obvious question or doing something wrong - I'm very sorry! I have searched the forums high and low and don't seem to be able to find a solution to my problem.
I have a T-Mobile Vario III / Kaiser / Tytn II. I have recently discovered the world of changing the device's ROM, which I am very much enjoying. You can get the kind of device you want, not what they want to you to have.
I have, however run into a problem. I've noticed on graphics, particularly on photo's I have taken myself and when on the picture capture screen of the camera, pink pixels running through the picture or randomly scattered. Mainly they seem to follow some kind of line, although I'm not sure what they're following. Sometimes it looks like pink snow, settling on the pic.
I thought it may have been an issue with the ROM I had installed, so I gave it a try and changed it. No luck. I've also made a point of installing the recommended Radio's. Although I must confess I might be missing something.
I currently have installed "HTC NATF v4 HTC Manilla Loaded" ROM with the Radio '1.58.2.17 Neon'.
Some help would be greatly appreciated - although it's not affecting the phone's performance it's ruining my pics!
Thanks in advance.

Try removing the back cover of the phone and taking some more pictures. It's possible that there is an issue with the plastic lens cover on the battery cover.
If you still run into problems, then you may have a defective camera.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.
It's not just my pics it's doing it on. It seems to be all graphics - anything on the screen. For instance, I'm looking at the home screen at the moment, if I look hard at the edges of the 'Home' icon, it has tints of a salmony pink colour! I would say that the pixels are roughly this colour:
It's almost like I don't have the correct drivers installed - does it work like that with these devices?
Thanks again for taking the time to help me!

The flex cable connecting the touchscreen to the systemboard may be loose/failing. From what I've read, the cable isn't that expensive, and is not too difficult to replace.

Stripes taking photos on htc kaiser

I have a htc Kaiser and there is a problem with the external 3Mp camera. When you start the application to take photos, then appears two parallel stripes, one half yellow hald red, and other below half green half blue. This happens only in the external ( 3 Mp ) camera, not in the 3g one. How I can fix it ????

Clean the lense
I have the same problem.
Tried cleaning the lens, didn't work.
Hard reset didn't work either.
Seems like a hardware fault with the camera.
Wait, are you saying they appear in the "viewfinder" of the app, or the actual photos?
Post an example shot please?
Mostly, It's cameras bug.

Was that supposed to be an answer to my question or a response to someone else?
Really, it's not possible to say whether this is an unusual "feature" or a bug without more info. The way the original poster describes it, it sounds like it might be some unusual framing assist feature in the live preview. No one seems to be willing to say whether it is in the previews or if it is in the actual pictures taken. (I know I have seen the Kaiser pictures thread, and they look pretty good other than some obvious deficiencies in the debayering algorithm that cause "maze" patterns to appear in certain situations, which is a common problem with some of the older/simpler debayering algorithms.)

yes, good question. does it look like this when you view it on your computer, or is it only when it's sized down on your device?
I can see the stripes while taking the picture and they are also part of the saved image. Viewed on the TyTN II and on a PC.
The camera was working fine then all of a sudden just started showing stripes.
Attached are some photos.
Looks like i might have to send the TyTN II for repair.
I also noticed that when you take the battery cover off, it seems like the camare can be taken out, so it may have moved and not making a good contact.

lol my first glance and it looked like you were targeting things with a crosshair. yea thats different than the lines i hought you were talking about, you need to send that back for repair.
Yeah, definately something wrong there, likely broken hardware.
Also I have the same problemna!
This happened to mine too, after working fine for about a month. Seems like a common problem, interesting it shows up after time too. I sent mine in for repair/replacement but it may happen again....
Even my own, for a month everything was ok, then is the line appeared
Same Problem
My camera also did this. I changed the flicker adjustment in the camera settings to 60 hz from auto and it went away, only to reappear again. Again, I changed the flicker adjustment, this time to aut, and it went away again. Very strange. It appears I can paly with the flicker adjustment in the camera settings and make it go away, at least for a while. It appears to be a common problem, likely software related.
i too
hi i too experiance the same problem.......
is there any one to help us... please post a geniune reply to our problem

Any help with the camera?

the camera is very slow and when I move the phone there is a delay,
i tried to download the fix from the original site and tried two roms
the original one and a cooked one but still the same
is this normal in tytn2 or is it just my mobile problem?
hope any one can advice
thanks
Hi,
this question was asked a thousand times now, please search the forum.
Anyway, here some short answers to your questions:
- In bright areas the camera works very good.
- Slow and laggy camera in dark (or better: not bright) areas is normal for the Kaiser. I would say it's normal for most PPCs.
- The HTC fix improves the camera a little bit, but not much.
- Flashing other ROMs does not really solve the problem. I've heared there is a ROM that improves the camera performance a litte bit, but not much.
- There's a little trick in dark areas: Switch the PPC off in camera mode and on again after about 3 seconds -> No laggy effect anymore, but the pics will be darker and more blurry.
- Some members here say the bad camera has something to do with the missing graphic drivers, but I personally do not believe that. I think this is more a hardware issue.
For further information please search this forum.

thanks
thanks a lot i thought it was only my htc's problem
hope they will find a way to fix the hardware
Also note that these cameras work best in NATURAL lighting, for instance outdoors it will probably not blur, usually interior lighting causes it to blur during motion. Another BIG factor is the Radio.

XPERIA Screen/Backlight Problems

Hey guys and girls,
I got my brand new X1i on an O2 contract today, ordered through the internet.
However, when switching it on, the first thing that stands out is the screen isn't all black. The upper right hand corner fades to like a dull greeny tinge as if its under pressure or something.
After fiddling around with it, it seems to be the backlight as in bright light, the colours all look fine and black is black. This is also the cause if the backlight is put at it's dullest, but it's most noticable when its at it's brightest.
Is this a issue with all Xperias or just mine?
And is this serious and worth contacting O2 about or will it be okay?
BUMP.
Could anyone tell me simply if this is a common problem, if not, I'll ring O2 now.
A quick reply would be nice
I haven't seen it before and I haven't seen it reported before. If you think it looks out of the ordinary, too much to leave it be, you should indeed phone O2.
Cheers, I shall call now
Post a picture so we can compare and lets us know how it turned out, mkay? =]
Heres the best photos I can snap.
The first two don't really show it well, but the third is the best.
Trust me, when you first switch it on and the Sony Ericsson logo appears, the whole screen is black and that corner fades to that dull green colour. It stands out quite a bit, it's also noticable on the Panels screen.
If you have a dark photo showing, it can affect the colours on that too.
For such a pricey phone, I expect it to be flush black across the screen.
(They're big, so I left them as links. I left them big to show the detail)

I just got off the phone to O2, they get the phone from a third-party so I am expecting an email from them. The woman on the other end said, most likely they will swap it for a new handset at the door, or take it for repairs....but it will say in the email.
Ah, classic case of backlight bleeding. Send it back and you'll get a new one.
Well, hopefully, before next week is out I shall. Just waiting for that elusive email, they said I should have received it by Monday.
Thank you for you're help, I appreciate it
There was a thread on this, some have it too.
I have it as well, black light bleeding. I dont really mind it much since I rarely notice it.
Ive decided to leave it alone since my X1 is unlocked and it'd be a massive hassle to send it away to SE.
I'm pretty sure its common. Even high end LCD TVs have the problem sometimes.
I had it on my first x1 (which I dropped and got a new through insurance), and I've also got it on my new x1.
However, I barely notice it, so I'm okay with it
I wouldn't mind so much if it was white but its a green colour, thats more annoying.
It's gonna get sorted anyway, most likely, they'll swap it at the door for a new one.
I was looking for information about the SPB mobile shell and found this thread.
I also have this issue with the top right corner of the screen, especially when I switch the phone on (on the black startup screen with "experia" written in white).
After startup, I don't really notice the issue since this area of the screen is almost never black (except when switching panels and sometimes when watching videos, but it's hardly noticeable). I'm now wondering if I should return it or not, I got the phone on tuesday and already had to do a hard reset (and reinstall everything I had just installed before) because I couldn't send or receive text messages! I really hope this won't get any worse...
(My phone is a french version, and my carrier is SFR)
Ive had the same issue w/ one...i just returned to BestBuy yesterday and now the replacement is also doing this as well...1 day later
Me too, bugging me like crazy, but seems to be quite common.
- Anthony
Mine has it too but its really not a big deal. I've only noticed it on bootup.
Yeah, don't mind it on startup - who watches it start up?
But I notice it when using the camera (in the black border) and
when switching panels, that's where it's annoying.
- Anthony
yeaa, i got the same problem too. Went over to the sony ericsson centre and they don't have a clue what it was. They said they'll look into it, and thats it. No replacement.
Not happy
i live in indonesia by the way..
Mine too has the issue. Both upper corners are bleeding greenish. It's obvious when the screen is black, not only on start-up, all the time. For example, look at it when playing a movie trailer with really black scenes, it's there.
It has to do with the pixels, not the back-lighting, from what I understand of TFT functionality.
Remember the dead pixels issue on TFT screens? Well, the dead pixel means the transistor of at least one color out of the 3 (RGB) is dead, either locked closed or locked open (anyway, not being able to modulate the light intensity of the subpixel color), so the color is either missing or present at a fixed value, the overall color of the pixel not being the required one. In this case is an issue of mismatch of transistor parameters.
The GREEN pixels do not close completely to block the light. Being a progressive issue from one area to another, it's clear that the thin film transistors are progressively mismatched by the process errors. This is process error in the TFT technology (I work in microelectronics). The process masks can get errors (not the case here), or the masks are ok but the etching process is not properly adjusted. In my Xperia the bleeding gets progressive towards the corner, having a starting point like a center from where it spreads. That is because the etching involves chemicals and liquid flow to spread and cleanse those chemicals. My opinion is that the flow in the case of this particular TFT screen model is from the bottom to the upper side, where the upper corners are the bleeding areas for the chemicals and the effectiveness of cleansing is lower, combined with surface tension of the liquids. The transistors get progressively mismatched in parameters (beta factor) and since they all get driven with the same signal, they block the light less than the good ones. Nothing to do about it. Theoretically it might be possible to map out those pixels and provide a corrected voltage for the mismatched transistors (correction table in the GPU DAC ROM), but this is like tooth extraction through the ass hole (or replacing the spark plugs through the exhaust pipe). It's simpler to just get the ****ing screen right. Sorry guys, we are out of luck here. It seems the 800x480 3inch TFT's are not yet top quality, or at least the ones used by SE. I'm really frustrated that the manufacturer used a cheaper screen in a 600-800$ product. This is how a company can loose customers and get the image crumpled.

[Q] blue artefacts / subpixels all over the screen

Hey!
I bought my galaxy 6 months ago. Not long after I noticed a minor issue with my AMOLED display. I could see blue "artefacts" in some bright areas of the screen from time to time. Nothing serious, just blue dots and stripes, subpixels. I even posted a picture of it on reddit (second attachment) more out of curiosity than anything but was later convinced it was probably a software issue. I did have some suspicions something might be wrong with my phone but it actually happened so rarely and the issue was so minor that I just got used to it because it didn't bother me that much.
I recently flashed dark core 2.2 along with rc6 and it got *significantly* worse. I could see blue subpixels all over the screen wherever there's bright white, generally on the lowest brightness setting. Now, I believed that the hardware got worse and it's time to ask for a replacement. So before doing so I obviously had to flash stock firmware and guess what - it all disappeared. So I flashed just the dark core again to go back to rc6 - and it was back again.
The thing is, I really love this ROM and I love the voodoo improvements that come with it. I don't think I can live without them any more. On the other hand, it might be difficult to convince people from samsung that there's actually something wrong with my phone - since it happens so rarely on stock ROM. And I think that this display defect is intensified by the screen improvements from voodoo/dark core.
My only idea is to somehow make it show up on stock ROM and send it to them just then. But is this even possible without rooting my phone? Does anyone has an idea why would these blue subpixels show up in white areas? Is it something they check with specialized equipment or do they boot the phone first to see what's wrong?
Anyway, guys if you could point me in the right direction or had any better ideas... Seriously, It would be helpful even if you said that I should just return my phone and hope for the best. I'm a student and I can't really afford to be charged for returning - what they think is - an operational phone
I attached two pictures
1. a picture of how my screen behaves after flashing the latest dark kernel
2. a picture of how my screen sometimes behave on stock kernels
I'd appreciate any help or advice

[Q] messed up colors, help :(

My stock Touchpad has a weird color problem. Anytime there is some shading/gradient type effect, red/green/blue hues appear. Solid colors seem fine but when I try to watch something like a movie...every person looks like Obama's HOPE poster. Even the normal grey backgrounds of the UI/Cards look like they are running in some 8bit mode or something.
HP live chat previously ASSURED me it is not a hardware problem but rather a software problem. I have done all the updates/factory reset/etc. Nothing has improved. Has anyone seen this type of problem? Is there a 8bit color switch somewhere? Thanks for reading/any help!
I attached a tiny low res pic of the problem. The problem is pretty obvious
Does it work correctly in WebOS? That would tell us if it is a cm problem or a hardware problem. Boot over to WebOS and try watching a movie. I haven't heard of this being a cm problem.

It doesn't even have CM on it. I'm actually wondering if I flash android on it...it'll get fixed. Will give it a try when I have more time but might just try to call warranty on it. My warranty has passed 1 year but hopefully my credit card company should cover it. I'm thinking I should try that first before wasting time on flashing.
Such a weird problem that has stopped me from using/enjoying my TP
Its hard to even tell what the problem is in your picture. But is your screen discolored in that one spot or is the whole screen discolored? I've never heard of a software issue causing that. And if it was a software issue, running the webOS doctor should have fixed it. So if its still under warranty, i'd go that route first.

The issue is the entire screen. The picture is supposed to be mainly dark grey/grey/white. The blue/green tints pretty much appear wherever there is slight color gradients. Its quite obvious on non-solid colored UI and skin. It looks like basically watching a person while on acid.
Anyone know if its possible to have a faulty GPU or something on it and still boot up? The TP does feel sluggish in other aspects as well...open up just a few cards and it becomes pretty damn sluggish. Doesn't even have to be a web browser card...something simple like calculator can sometimes cause problems...

If its your whole screen, it could be that your screen is messed up. If you have the warranty still, I'd see if you can get it replaced.
