if its getting warm it seems as if it is getting something but not charging. Try plugging in headset. This will eliminate the dodgy connector theory if it works
Hello
I have the same problem, no charging status when os running, no charging light and no connection with pc. G1 is charging only when off. Anybody have idea ?
do this belongs ins the devs threads?
uh, for the one with no led while charging - are you using JACHero ROM by any chance? That may be why.
...its normal for that one
Call tmobile... get new one.. tell em u tied different outlets andwhen u tried diferent batery it works

Can we say, Warranty exchange?
or buy a new battery
I have new battery, 2 chargers, and jf 1.5 rc 33.
I'm from poland and I have problem with downgrade to basic "era" software, Idont know why. Now I install rc 29 and have default spl.
i believe your battery charger port aka usb port is damaged so you must need a replacement.
maybe its damaged but, headset work perfect. I cant get warranty exchange because I dont know how to install oryginal era software.
here is the link with era software http://megafileupload.com/en/file/104629/signed-TMPL-RC9-from-TMPL-RC6-f5759790-zip.html

All you have to do is rename the file you linked to "update.zip" put it on the root of your sdcard, restart, wipe and flash it as an update.

I had the exact same thing happen to me it is apparently a device problem that seems to be spreading. You can't charge the battery but if you put another battery in it you'll be alright. They let me take the one in the display at T-Mobile in excahnge because the battery is in fact completely fine its the main board itself. You're gonna have to unroot the system and get it back to at least stock and mail it in to HTC (they charge you a $29 triage fee if they determine it was due to something you did ie water damage or software modification). Anyway get your hands on a charged batery unroot send it in and they'll replace the board and send it back.

hey guys, im having a similar problem, but slightly different. my device will boot up if i have it plugged in and hold the power button a coupld of secons after the initial single red blink of the led, but when it boots up it says there is 0% charge in the battery and even though it says that it is charging, the battery never appears to gain any charge. i've had the phone for over a year. how long does htc's warranty last?

Help please guys...
I am recovering from uploading a ROM not intended for my MDA Compact II. I have managed to get it to boot while plugged into the mains but it won't work off the battery (that works!).
I have a bluetooth Activesync connection to my laptop but when I try to replace the ROM using the T-Mobile update version it says that the battery on my phone is under 50%.
Is there a way to force the update? Link to thread will be fine.
Thanks
Andy
P.S. UK version of ROM.
Command line based ROM upload?
OK, so I've found the awizard utility and have read up and extracted the nbf into it's parts. I need some help getting the parts through nb2nbf (i.e. memory addresses?) so I have some good files to push onto the MDA.
Can someone provide a little help, the phone is now working when plugged into the mains but it doesn't charge the battery so I can't get it over 50% to allow a normal shipped ROM install.
SD card IPL/SPL restore?
Someone must have an idea!

i had once a Wizard that wouldn't pass boot and wouldn't charge. After a few unsuccessful rom installations the battery almost died and i could not proceed. So i turned the phone off and it started charging I guess that while in bootloader the charging circuit wasn't accessible but when in "play dead" state it would work.
good luck
Fingers crossed you might just be right
No joy, green light comes up with the phone off but when booted up it reports the battery as being dead. It still doesn't work off the wall charger either.
Any ideas to cheat the phone into thinking it's charged to fix the problem?
if you perform the rom update package while the phone is in the bootloader it will bypass the battery check but you can only do this over a usb connection.

I have an XDA Orbit coming next week as my work phone. Is it going to use the same battery?
If so then I should be able to get bootloader will using a charged battery from the XDA, or my phones battery charged in the XDA, so that would be good news
If not I still need to find a way to charge the battery. Best bet is another MDA II user I suppose.
Hi, I have the same problem, did you find a answer ?
HI,
I have the same probem that you had, did you find a by pass or fix for the battery problem ?

Afraid not here, I have the phone in my hand. It's not been used in months
Anyone??
Hi all...
First of all... i've searched in the forum but couldn't find the answer.
I have a G3 CID unlocked phone; and flashed many custom roms all with success...
This morning i saw the new TNT 4.0 and off course i wanted to try this one.
Flash went well through 100%; and at the end i saw a block from mcafee service center that there was a blocked item; and if i wanted it to be stay blocked or remove block. (i don't know what the blocked item was unfortunatelly)
The update was cancelled and the device stays in bootloader mode (so that's good i guessed.)
When i try to reflash (have tried TNT4.0 reflash, tried buttom rom flas, tried stock rom flash) the progress bar appears.
Then thew bootloader suddenly ""reboots" and the flash terminates.
I think i tried everything now... anyone a suggestion what to do?
IPL/SPL 3.08 and radio 2.0.19 dutch ship
thanxx
ow yeah... i've also tried another computer with no mcafee security center on it...
hmmm I think I found the answer....
Rebooting is caused bij an low battery.... battery had been charged whole night on USB... so he said it was fully charged...
I've put the phone on the wallcharger; and the bootloader appears... the led doesn't show it is charging (i can imagine that this is controlled by the OS) but when i charge the battery for 3 minutes the flash goes up to 100% and then reboots again... so I think it has something to do with the charging. I will charge the battery for a little longer and try the flash again.
SOLVED
Ok and that was the answer... charged for about 15 minutes with the wall charger and it flashed.
maybe if someone else has the same issue he/she can take its advantage
thanxx anyways

I have a similar problem, I'll try this in an hour or so, wizard is n the wallcharger right now.
Thanks for the advice...
I am in believe that my battery has to be replaced... when the phone is 100% full; it drops to 50/60 within the hour; and then suddenly he can/will be completely discharged....
At this moment i am in search for a new battery in the netherlands (for an reasonable price....
I'm trying to get my Dream back to where it was just after rooting and flashing CM 4.2.8. I wiped my rooted Dream and flashed "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip" then flashed "update-cm-4.2.8-signed.zip". That all went fine.
But a strange problem... The battery stays at 0% (The battery's voltage is 3.92v out of phone on DMM, a 3.7v nominal Li-Ion should be 4.2v when full) and if I unplug the USB cable it shuts down, the phone will also ONLY boot when connected to USB.
Also if I select reboot from the OS, it will switch off but not restart.
Do I have to discharge the battery out of the phone? (I have Li-Ion/Li-Po charger/discharger)
Or is there another way to get the phone to recognize the full battery?
Weird, my Battery Info (in spare parts) reports that the battery voltage is 2.465v whereas I've measured it at 3.92v...
EDIT: Battery Info reports 2.480v when battery fully charged at 4.2v and 2.465v when discharged to 3.0v???
Please can someone send me a copy of their batterystats.bin file, I want to see if changing it makes a difference, I've tried everything I can think of to get this right including 'rm'-ing the file and/or wiping immediately after/before unplugging, otherwise the phone shuts down within a few seconds.
It's 13KB, please send it to conanony[at]gmail[dot]com
I would like to help you, but i dont know how to get that file lol
pardus what recovery do you use for the phone?
if you use RA's recovery you can delete the battery info, i believe this may help your problem. also try cycling your battery
charge full to 100%
drain full to 0% where your phone wont turn on.
keep turning it on untill the G1 logo wont popup anymore
that's just my problem, the second I remove the charge/USB cable the phone shuts down, before that it never charges to full despite the battery actually being at 4.2v (shows charging(0%)) and can't drain it to 0% as it reports it's at 0% and immediately shuts down, so catch 22.
>djluis48: you can use Droid Explorer (http://de.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=37999) to get the file, it's in /data/system/
Tried to flash RA's recovery from fastboot and get this: writing recovery.... FAILED (remote: battery low)
managed to flash RA's recovery and wipe the battery stats with it, however it still had it's not charging problem, then I left it over night and it charged to 30% but after removing the battery to put the sim back in the battery went back to 0%.
(btw, Battery was fine before the flash)
I suspect that this problem is the cause of many "black screen" and "I think my phone is bricked" issues.
The phone sees a full battery as empty and therefore won't boot, one way to test is to try boot into recovery with power/usb connected. One symptom I have is very short red LED flashes when trying to boot without power/usb connected and when connected a continuous red LED, then when trying to boot with power/usb > longer red flashes before eventually booting.
Well seeing as I'm talking to myself I might as well carry on...
Have managed to get the phone to boot 3 times (over 3 days) showing the correct battery values including temperature BTW, which shows as 67.7°C (153.8°F!) continually (with battery at room temp.) however when removing the battery to replace the sim which was in an old phone it was back to square one
I can't seem to replicate the actions I did to get the normal values back, one occasion was after I pressed power, menu and send together which then flashed the fastboot screen very briefly and booted after that.
Very weird, wish someone with a working knowledge of the Android system would chime in here?

Wiped and tried original ROM - RUU_DREAM.exe, reports voltage below 30%, can't continue (I know the battery is full, I just charged it from empty and it took 1153mAh), I then tried wiping (everything) and flashed CM 4.2.12 from 4.2.8 - still the same. Voltage on phone reads 2.442v, DMM on battery reads 4.157v...!!
Wiped and flashed SuperD 1.5.1 ROM, still the same problem
Phoned local HTC agents, they say must bring it in but if it doesn't have the original ROM on it then it's out of warranty...
but I can't load the original ROM using RUU_dream.exe because it won't let you flash when the phone reads a full battery as flat...and despite searching high & low I can't find a Leaf (local distributer) DREAIMG.nbh file which may be similar to a rogers but I don't want to take the chance, anyway I can't find an original DREAIMG.nbh for a rodgers only a RUU_dream.exe.
So that's it, not a brick but unusable unless connected to power...
Tried DREADIAG.nbh (HTC's diagnostic program) from the sd card via hboot, no luck, reports battery too low but I know it's charged, seems my options are running out...
same problem
most interesting information in the second paragraph.
hey dude, im having exactly the same problem, but im in a bit of an odder situation still. i've been trying to get back to factory setting so that i could see if it works then.. (i've had mine so long its out of warranty anyway) i've never even gotten mine to say it has any battery since this problem started, i even went to the trouble of ordering a second battery from ebay to see if it works.. i mean i had two batteries to begin with one extended one regular. i thought maybe my extended battery went bad so i put the regular one in but still no luck, but i thought maybe it went bad from less than ideal sorage conditions, so i've got another one on the way. sucks to know its probably just wasted money.
Anyway, heres my situation. I was trying to get back to factory so i started by flashing the original recovery image (since i was coming from an inofficial one, it was no big deal) i know know i should have flashed the spl first.. because now the recovery wont let me flash anything unofficial, and i dont know that i have an offical update.zip from t-mobile. also i dont know if the hard spl somehow requires an unofficial rom to be flashed. anyway right now my recovery image wont let me flash anything it seems. i have the hard spl, official recovery image, and my rom is dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DRC83 14721 test keys.. i have no idea who even made that one.. i think haykuro or the dude???? (my humblest of appologies for not giving proper credit if this is someone else's work)
i think at this point my phone may just be a usb modem and nothing else. im also like a year away from an upgrade so im back to my old hp 6315 or mda.. but i've lent that to a friend.... i also have an old mpx 200 with some awesome firmware (also thanks to xda developers love you guys) or a super old sony-ericsson t86i... i really wish there was a way to put android on my hp 6315 but i think pigs have a better chance at flying than that coming to fruition. anyway if anybody else has this problem and figures it out, please let us know what to do.
My phone started to do this a few days ago, it's driving me nuts. I don't know what the heck is wrong with it.
One way to tell for sure if it is this problem, try the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614987
I am in the same boat. It just came out of no where. I have flashed roms, changed sp,l wiped battery stats, and tried to change back to DREAIMG and like you guys said it says low voltage.
Has anyone had any luck at all with this?
I have not really seen my answer on here so excuse me if I am asking repeated ?tions
My battery is NOT holding a charge, so i went to the mobile store and they tell me that the battery is not designed to last more than a year blah blah blah so i bought a new one since this one drained super fast anyway when using the GPS
So i get a new extended life MASSIVE battery and now it wont charge either. It worked fine for about a week, and now its just yellow exclamation point city.
I cannot get the phone to stay on, I have tried multiple charging leads, used the wall, used the computer port, nothing.
So I guess my only option is to mail it to Samsung as maybe it is the usb port itself?
I only think this as last night when I plugged in before bed it made the connection/disconnection sound like 4-5 times as if to say the plug is not in.
But with that said, even when i would plug in and see that it reads the charge is being accepted, I still get nothing hours later.
So if Samsung gets it, will they go into my phone and see the custom rom and tell me to have a nice day as my warranty is now voided for tampering with the original firmware?
Because clearly I have no way to flash it back to stock since the battery will not charge at all.
Entertaining suggestions
Thanks
You do have a way to flash stock, charge the battery externally/put a new battery and unroot and flash stock. Yes if you send it to Samsung they may notice a root so better to get the original firmware in place. I guess the internal charging circuit is flawed but then it shouldn't have charged the new battery at all, not even for a week.

And how do i charge the battery externally, you left that bit out.
Using some other N7000! Look, I'm just suggesting u, maybe there are other ways to charge externally.
I just took it to the phone shop in the mall and the battery is fully charged, just the phone is not excepting it for some reason.
So the phone is screwed up for sure.
Not sure what to do since I cannot get it to turn on to put it back to stock rom
Send it to Samsung, the circuit must be damaged. Hardware problem, you may get away with a root.

only other way is using mobile odin but phone need to be in working state for that. Try the last option for the service center if it is not even starting they would not be able to check which rom you have and if the motherboard is replaced (just assuming) then there is nothing to be worried about.

Well i took the battery to the shop and they said it was fully charged so its the phone
But now the aftermarket (extended life) actually took a charge when I got home, the phone read 100%, so i turned it on and it said 53% and charging, hmmmm
SO i removed betterbattery app and restarted the phone, then it said low battery again.
So its taking a charge but not holding it now.
I dont remember how to use the Odin since I did the rom flash and so on a year ago and have not touched my phone since I did the root and all of that so I dont remember how lol.

I have the same problem. It was preceded by my phone going into Car Mode for no reason and also thinking I was USB connected when I was connected to a charger.
I have sent the phone to HTC who want me to pay for a new motherboard as the bootloader is unlocked. They sent me a picture of the phone showing the bootloader was unlocked but for some reason they sent me a photo of someone elses phone (mine is black and the photo is of a silver one). I now have an escalated ticket to sort this out - has been open since Monday. I am losing patience with HTC.........

Mine was having the same trouble. Car mode, not charging and usb host mode warning. I made some alterations suggested in another thread as: Turn off fast boot, and choose no screen lock and reboot. The phone charged at night, but it was turned off. I'll get home and see what's up. The worst thing for me is that I'm in Brazil and we get no support here. I'll have to send it to the US, to a friend so he can send to htc. Didn't get to see if it connects to the pc. I'll be pissed if it doesn't.
Oh, mine is completely stock. Didn't unlock bootloarder or S-OFF
Phone is working just fine now. Recharging when on, no more car app going crazy. I only turned off fast boot and lock screen, rebooted and problems solved.

I already fixed this charging issue...it has nothing to do with HW.
Just replaced this parts shown in the attached image below
I don't know what is happend but the phone is charging now.I buy an LG G2 and let the phone off one week and after that when I plugged in charger everything is normal. The problem now is with the microphone now because when I call somebody he can't hear me,but I can hear the other person. If I activate the speaker everything is good and I can use my phone for calls. Now the phone is in service and I will reply with results when I will get it back.
I have the same problem, there are many topics about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332046&highlight=charge&page=3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417377&highlight=charge&page=3
And I have read many theories about the causes of this problem:
1) damaged usb port
2) virtual sd-card corrupted
3) damaged proximity sensor
But apparently the only solution is send it to warranty...
I am kinda having the same problem...
I can charge when its on but it has to be with certain chargers...
like a usb wall charger but not certain standard ones
charges in the car no problem and when off..
But this only recently happened when I flashed a new Rom...
I restored back to another rom and it charges no problem...
So now I think it has something to do with the freq of how the phone is clocked at...
Im testing right now to see if I clock it to something different over or under it might fix the problem...
Will post results
Solved

Yeah i just solved. Thanks god.
I had the same problem after totally discharge the phone and try to charge it with a generic charger.
The device didnt charge when ON and didnt connect to USB neither.
It starts putting itself in car mode and USB host mode.
I was going to try a defferent kernel when i re-unlocked the phone and rooted it (i install TWRP2 v2.6.3.3)
in my way to install the kernell (and change the ROM) i did a factory wipe with the TWRP2 tool and then
i noticed that the phone starts charging again.
It is like kew again.
I hope this help a bunch of people out there, i made a hugh investigation and no one have any idea, they
keep telling you that is a hardware problem. If the phone dont charge it all than is a hardware problem if
it charges when is OFF or in Fasboot mode than is a software problem.
Sorry for my english. Spread the word.
email: [email protected]
Mine stopped charging, battery is now empty and it's completely unresponsive. It doesn't charge, LED doesn't blink, I can't boot it(not even in bootloader). What can I do? It's still under warranty, but the bootloader is unlocked and I have installed a custom ROM. Do you think they will notice that because it doesn't boot at all and they don't open the phones in Croatia(where I live) as far as I know because they don't have the right equipment so they just exchange them. Should I just try sending it?
