Hello,
I recently replaced my Treo 650 with an unlocked Kaiser on ATT. I’ve had the phone for several months and everything was working great. While I was on a trip in an area I normally travel I noticed that I didn’t have service. I normally have full service in this area on the Treo so I switched the sim over to my friends Treo and made a call. The Treo showed that it was on ATT network not roaming. I switched it back and still no service. I also tried the find network button under phone settings. The phone showed no service for about 30 miles ( I figured about one tower coverage area ). On the way home it did the same thing in a separate area for about 60 miles. I switched the sim and made a call no problems. I didn’t think there was a PRL update for GSM phones but I can’t think of why else it would do this?
Thanks
A8
Try toggling 3G and Edge, edge has a lot bigger coverage area. I rarely use 3g because it drains my battery quicker. I download duttys 3g comm manager to do this easily

A friend of mine just purchased the Kaiser to be used on the at&t network. He lives in a 3G area in the USA and for some reason, his phone will not hold the 3G connection. It wants to switch to Edge. Is there a manual setting to stop this from happening or a new utility to enable/disable certain connection. Is this normal for 3G to do this. Any information I can pass on would be greatful.
Thanks
I think it's an indication that 2G is stronger than 3G in your area. My Kaiser always hold 3G connection all the time where I live. You can "manually" force 3G. Here is one the many ways to do it: on Windows Start menu, go to "Setting" then "Phone" (on the "Personal" tab), click "Band" tab, then use "WCDMA" for network type selection (default is "Auto")
Thanks for the help. I'll pass it on.
While the Kaiser is my first ppc type phone and I cannot claim to be expert I do think that this is a normal reaction of the phone to what networks are available.
I live in San Jose Ca. and must, perchance, move up and down the peninsula in the normal course of work and life.
I see my Kaiser switching from Edge to 3G to unnamed all up and down the peninsula. It is best for 3G in the cities and worse up in the hills -as one might expect. I also get the best 3G connections in the evenings and night vs. the daytime when, I assume, more 3G users are taking up bandwidth.
It is unfortunate that where I live is an Edge (during the daytime) area though I am paying for the 3G data plan.
3G issues with the TyTnII
Hello all:
I post on the AT&T HTC forumn and had this thread sent to me by another poster there.
I also have a TyTnII newly aquired from MobilePlanet on Weds. I am having the same issues with 3G. It briefly flashed the G icon on boot up then switches to Edge with all 5 bars. I've tried the manual mode fix, no luck. The wcdma gets no signal and the gsm goes back up to 5 bars same as auto.
Then theres the inability to register my serial # on HTC's EU site. Says SN is invalid... MP has had several reports of EU devices doing this.
I'm in the US, NorthEast NJ area. And in the middle of a known 3G area.
Bill
Can anyone help Bill out? How many of you CAN use 3G on the USA at&t network without a problem? He's trying to see if it's a setting issue or a phone issue. I'm not in a 3G area so I can't help him here.
Thanks

I get a 3g signal when I go into Philly (I live about 45 minutes outside the city) It holds it just fine as well. Is it possible you just have weak 3g coverage where you are? I actually shut off the 3g on my phone as I have no 3g coverage at work or at home and the 3g connection discharges the battery in a hury.
I'm on AT&T as well.
Oh - BTW - I also can't register my phone with the eClub either. I sent an Email to the HTC Webmaster but have not had any reply in 3 days. I'm not too confident in HTC's support.
Hi,
I recently purchased an AT&T Tilt (HTC Tytn II) and unlocked it so that I can use it with the Rogers Network. It worked perfectly for about three weeks then I took it to Orlando for a vacation. While I was there, I change the network setting to manual and connect it to AT&T Roger so that I can use it as a roaming phone. When I got back to Canada, I changed the network detection back to automatic and it connected to Rogers for about 10 seconds then it lost the connection. So for about 10 seconds, it worked but only lasted 10 seconds. I also notice that when it connects it shows E (Edge) as a data connection. After 10 seconds, it changed to 3G. As soon as it changed to 3G, it loses the connection.
I wonder if anyone has this problem. I don`t know if this is because I used it on an AT&T roaming network. I`m very puzzled and any help is greatly appreciated. Thx!
I am having the same problem. I travel to New York quite a bit. My phone would give me a message that it was unable to connect to the GPRS network. So I would go into the Comm manger and deselect the 3g. Then the phone would get a signal. I was not getting a 3g signal, but an edge signal. When I would come home to Ft.Lauderdale the phone would work fine no problems with the 3g till last week.
Soft reset I get the 3g signal 4 bars then it disappears I get no signal ! and then I get an Edge signal in about 5 seconds or so. Everything works but I am unable to get the 3g speed.
If I try to force the phone into a 3g signal by selecting WCDMA on the band I can get a 3g icon. The voice part works fine and displays utms but any time I try to use the data I get some sort of error message. Like dialed "proxy" no response or the remote party would not connect.
Do you think that we might have something corrupting the radio?

My old at&t rom doesn`t give me the option of selecting the band. Maybe I should flash it with HTC rom and at least get the voice part to work. I don`t know if the security scanning machine at the airport will harm the phone in anyway. They always ask us to take out the laptop and camera separately.
Hi:
I have a Tilt on AT&T's network. Today I was about an hour away from home, and noticed a complete loss of signal. My other phone, a Motorola Razr V3xx, had 3 bars of signal at the same time. I had this same problem in the same rural area before, and just assumed there was nothing I could do about it.
This time though I decided to turn off 3G on the Tilt (since I know it can sometimes interfere with reception), and still nothing. Then I did a soft reset (still had 3G off), and I finally found a signal, as well as the Roaming icon.
Is this normal behavior? The Razr also has 3G, but apparently must switch over to edge when it is in a non-3G area. Why would my Tilt need to be manually reset in order to find a signal?
Thanks!
Hi:
I'd really appreciate any reply
Even if it's to tell me that this is unheard of behavior. My warranty is about to expire, and need to have my phone replaced before it expires if this is a fault unique to my phone.
Thanks again!

I'm not sure why but your phone should have switched automatically. For me, I have my band set to GSM manually.
Are you using usually using 3G with no problem? There's a hardware fault in some devices that will appear about a few months of usage where 3G becomes inoperative. When connected on 3G calls will fail, and one needs to force GSM and reboot to be able to use the phone again. Return to service center needed for repair, mine is there now.
Hi:
Thanks so much for your replies!
I think I probably need a replacement phone, so I guess on Monday I'll call and spend the 15+ hours p) on the phone to AT&T to get a new one, lol.
Kilrah, yes my 3G usually works fine, but apparently when I go into a non 3G area it just loses signal. My phone never really gets great reception anyway, so hopefully the replacement will be an all around improvement.
Thanks again!!
I purchased a used AT&T Tilt from E-bay 6 weeks ago. It worked great for 6 weeks, but starting yesterday it has not been able to use the cell phone. Here's what's happening:
1. Soft reset phone.
2. Open the "Phone Settings" page to watch status.
3. Says "Current Network: AT&T". Signal level in status bar shows full strength. Network icon in status bar shows "G".
4. After about 10 seconds, the "G" changes to "3G". Still shows full strength signal.
5. After 10 more seconds, the "3G" changes to "X". The signal level changes to "!", And the current network changes to "No Service".
6. After 1-2 minutes, the sequence repeats starting at #3 above.
7. Pressing the "Find Network" button, doing soft reset, and powering off & on all result in the same thing.
Other info:
ROM: AT&T WM 6.1 (from the HTC website)
SIM: Cingular 64k Smart Chip (not 3G)
I do not have a 3G signal in my location
Tried SIM card in my old Motorola 551 and it still works fine
I have Kaiser Tweeks installed
Any ideas???
???
I called At&t and the said that there was a large outage.....My Diamond is doing the same thing......THEY said sometime today should be fixed.....yah..right
Peace

I wish that was the problem. But my old phone works just fine.
my friend had the same problem with her Tilt. the AT&T guy at the service store says that because she was out of town this past weekend, the phone is still trying to find the signal to that particular tower. that is BS! the Tilt has a known issue with this problem. but luckily, she got a new Tilt with the new Windows Mobile 6.1. that works. this is her 3rd Tilt with AT&T since June due to the same problems - can't pick up signals.
but, if the old Tilt phone was connected to Edge instead of 3G, it would get service. try to disable 3G in your phone. you have to use Kaisertweak or some other kind of program that allows you to disable 3G.

Thanks. I stopped by an AT&T store a few moments ago. While they were not able to help me with my problem since I didn't purchase it from them, they did say that they just turned on 3G service to our area yesterday. This is the exact same time that my problems started. Apparently my phone doesn't like 3G. They did upgrade my SIM card to a 3G card, but that didn't help. Still having the same issue as in my first post. So, now I'm going to try to find out how to disable 3G on my Tilt to see if that works. (I have Kaiser Tweeks, but I haven't noticed a "Disable 3G" setting.) Time for more research...
Fixed!!! I installed the "Enable Band Page" cab file found in the folowing post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1956747&postcount=10. Then I selected "GSM" as the network type. The phone works just fine now in Edge mode. I don't use data on my phone anyway except via WiFi (don't want to pay for a data plan) so I don't really need 3G.
I'm so glad it wasn't a problem with the radio in my non-warranty phone.
Hi,
How can I check if my diamond is connected to 3G? My O2 Ignito always displays the 'G' icon in the top corner. I am yet to see it display '3G', but I know this icon exists.
When I click it the 'connectivity' pop-up comes up and says:
mobile web (GPRS, 3G)
I am in a 3G area, I have checked on here:
http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/map.asp
But to me it doesn't seem like 3G speeds.
Thanks
When you are connected to 3G doesn't the thing next to the signal icon change to say 3g?
I'm in the same boat with my O2 handset, I'm in an area that's allegedly covered by O2's 3G coverage but the only thing I've ever seen is G or E (for EDGE); I've never seen the 3G icon.
I realised yesterday though that my SIM card might not be 3G compliant as it's the same SIM card I'm still using from my very first O2 contract phone from back in 2005 so I'm going to ask in an O2 shop this weekend whether that could be the problem.
I have had much discussion with O2 concerning 3G reception. I live in a 3G area and yet do not receive it on my Ignito. If i take my sim out and put it in a Nokia I get 3G. O2 replaced the handset - same issue. It seems HTC devices do not have a good 3G reciever in them. It diplays H when you have 3G - O2 quote "H is superior to 3G and provides the fastest data transfer". I've been asked by O2 to monitor my 3G reception and give feedback to them, so that they can give feedback to HTC! If I continue to not get 3G coverage they have offered to look at another handset for me!
The phone displays H when it has a 3G signal. H is the fastest data service in the UK and is faster than 3G - quoting O2 here.
I have also had problems with receiving 3G. If i put my sim in a Nokia handset it works fine, but not in my Ignito. They changed the handset - second one the same. It appears the receiver in the Diamond is not very good at receiving 3G. O2 have asked me to monitor how I get on and give them feedback, so they can get back to HTC!
I have looked into this with o2 Corporate as I have a works Ignito.
It appears that it was worth a phone call as the guy I spoke to seem to know his stuff and apparently sorted me out.
I have never had the 3G logo on my Ignito, so out of interest I rang o2 to question my speeds.
1. They told me my SIM is so old it is 2G, so they have sent me a new 3G card.
2. They state that my account has been set up wrong in that I have never been upgraded to the faster speeds, the Tech guy told me that when my phone is showing ‘H’ after a speed test it is actually running 3G!
3. They have now moved me from something called ‘virgin 5’ to ‘virgin 6’, as I have never been upgraded, which will mean that when available I will get 1.2 MB/s!
4. Apparently the Ingnito software has not got the 3G logo in it so will not show 3G only H. (or E for Edge or G for GPRS, if not on the higher speeds)
5. Because of the wrong SIM and not upgrading me automatically, Cheeky bastards!
Thanks for your help, I would of never known it would of been a SIM problem.
Do you now receive a constant 3G connection?
Do O2 correct this free of charge?
I would also be interested in other O2 Ignito customers find there 3G reception.
Hoew to get better signal
Hi Gets
If you need to get better 3g signal, why don't you just change the radio.
I had same kind of issue with the original radio. I updated 1.05.25.BS14 and I have brillint 3g signal all the time.
I went into the O2 store today, they gave me a new SIM straight away, no questions.
Now it runs great!
O2's 3G reception is diabolical at the best of times....from past experiences on their network...one of the major reasons why i went back to Tmobile...their 3g network is very good and fast. Never fail to get the H icon 95% of the time when using my phone.
