HTC Touch diamond - dead .. not starting up - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey I tried to unlock my HTC touch diamond with an unlocking software. In the process the cell phone suddenly turned off and now it is not working at all. Not turning on .. even not charging up the battery. In short look like no sign of life in the mobile phone. I tried every thing nothing work. I do have the warranty but dont have the reciept.
What can i do with this situation . any ideas how can i atleast make the phone start??? you exeriences and ideas??
thanls

sooo, you used the unlocker from ppcgeeks, which is fr cdma phones (and I'm not sure it its unlocking anything at all). Anyway - the only way to fix it is to send it to the service centre. If the phone is still on guarantee, there's big chance, that they will not be able to boot it, and replace the mainboard.
Good luck!

what if i dont have the recipt? no proof of purchase... i bought it from a friend and he lost the recipt for it . I know the fone has atleast 4 months warranty left .. but what else i should do.. again thanks for the reply ..

You're SOL buddy.
Exact same thing happened to me about 6 weeks after I bought my Diamond. Cost me $130 on the insurance claim to get a new one.
Obviously I haven't tried it a second time....

why u paid 130$ if you had insurance???

It was an insurance claim, not a warranty claim, and therefore I'm responsible for part of the replacement cost....sort of like the deductible for your medical or car insurance.

warrenty question

so i bought my tilt like 2 months ago..today at the gym..i dropped it..and cracked the screen..now the screen is completly white with a big ol' crack going through it...
my first question is..what kinda warrenty does att have/ what can i do to get this replaced?
number 2...i have a custom rom....but since i cant actually see anything on the screen..how do i go about flashing the original back so my warrenty isnt void? if i just flash it regularly would that work..and leave it on the phone without setting it up or anything??
thanks in advance
Broken Screen is "Physical Damage" & as such not covered by the Mfg's warranty.
Your choices are send it to a center for repair, buy a new device, or buy the LCD & digitizer & install it yourself.
If HTC repair finds the damage is your fault they charge $28 to fix anything not there fault. When you send it to them they ask for credit card number for this . I just had to send my phone back and this is what happened
Actually HTC will charge way more than $28 for things not covered by warranty (like "physical damage"). I spoke with a HTC repair person on the phone the other day and she told me that the average bill for repairs on the kaiser was $140 or so.

I just sent my Tilt to HTC Repair re keyboard issues

I bought a Tilt refurb through AT&T and just after the 90 day AT&T warranty, the keyboard began having issues with it where some keys required harder or repeated presses to register. There was no water damage and I never dropped it so who knows why it happened. It really only happened with 2 or 3 keys.
I took it to a repair store locally but they wanted like $120 to "replace" the keyboard and assembly, which made little sense to me since I had only paid $149 for the phone.
So I contacted HTC and in case anyone else is in this boat, just because the AT&T warranty is expired does not mean the HTC warranty has expired.
HTC's warranty is 15 months and they can calculate it from the serial number. They told me I was still within that 15 month period so I am ASSUMING that they will repair it for free.
please say you reverted your rom back to the shipped version before sending it in.
this is currently happening to my "a" key...I hope it doesnt get worse
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding. Yeah, I did.
this happened to me a few weeks ago. sent it to att. first refurb i got back had a broken screen..second was fine just the slider was misaligned. how can you tell if there is still an HTC warranty on the phone?
Call (888) 354-2375 and read them your serial number.
htc charges you a $30 triage fee upon inspecting the device and then they ill notify you of whats wrong and if its covered..
I was told the triage fee is waived if the problem is covered.
I am having the same issue with my "s" button. i have to press it twice as hard to get it to register half the time and this sucks when you have to use your phone for work emails and such.....
im going to call that number here shortly to see if my phone is coverd still....
thanks for the thread....
I'll post back news when I hear back from them and when I get the phone back.

Yikes i just called and the guy on the phone told me "it would be about a houndred and forty-five dollars to fix that"
I asked about the 15month thing and he said "that only covers factory defect, a failing keyboard would deffinately not be covered"
I said "yeah ok thanks buddy" (hung up)
wowsers.......
the phone to me is not woth 145.00 to me now when the Raphael/Fuse and HD are so close. ah hell i could probably just buy a refurb from at&t for that much.
i hope you have better results than i did just now.
i will be monitoring this thread in hopes that it works out for you.
30.00 50.00 not so bad 145.00 nah im cool.
fingers crossed for you.
it wouldn't surprise me, but if a failing keyboard isn't considered a factory issue than nothing is.
A warranty should cover anything short of physical damage.
it really sucks that they told you this isnt factory issue.
I bought my device NEW from ATT and I have the same problem.
I was hoping this was ROM issue... but I now see it's not... too bad
just keep bothering them...make them be in your shoes..words can work magic but persistance can get you what you want dont give up just keep bugging them and getting higher personnel
This started happening about a few months after I bought the phone. My V is terrible my A is bad and my S is also bad. I thought it was a ROM issue as well. but now I have to press V extremely hard for it to register. I bought my phone sometime in December of 07 or Jan 08. Can't remember exactly when.
hi everyone, I got my tytn 2 from orange last october and I have the problem with several letters as well. I called up the HTC repair centre and told them it was really annoyed me cos i kept on missing letters in the txt. I sent back my device and fix it under warranty without charging me anything. Fixed in 5 days with UPS delivery. Very good service. Just call them up and try
good luck
I did the same thing. My TyTN II was still under the 15 month warranty thru HTC. They turned it around within about 2 days and had it back to me. They replaced the keyboard and the flex circuit.
They were supposed to call me when they had it to discuss what the issues were, but I never got the call. I wanted them to fix the misalignment issue between my top and bottom half (off by about a 1/16"), but they never did that. When I inquired after I got my phone back, they told me that "physical issues with the phone are not covered under warranty". Only software and internal board related issues.
They still have my phone...haven't heard whether its covered or not...or how much they will charge.
If these guys are anything, they are slow.

Diamond Touchscreen stopped working...problems with 3 Denmark RMA

Hi all,
My touchscreen stopped working a week ago, no new installations, no new changes. It just stopped responding to the clicks on the screen, in the middle of a phone call. Resetting did not help, Hardreset neigher... as I got stuck at the first time boot screen where the WM wants to calibrate the touchscreen and you have to click on the displayed marks. I bought it 7 month ago so I decided to RMA it. After flushing my data, i delivered it to a local 3 butik. Since I had no doubts about the competence of the tech guys at the service center I left the Dutty Rom installed, instead of reverting to the original 3 rom.
Today, after a 3 days repair estimate they sent me a repair offer for almost 700$ for just reinstalling the original ROM since they are absolutely sure this is where the problem lies (prolly they thought Dutty ROM was magically working for months, until the magic depleted?).
So they are sending me my Diamond back, so that I could reflash it with the original 3 and RMA it again..
Has anyone else experienced this "fun"?
I guess I'll stay away from 3 next time. (Good marketing, decent people, but really awful service)
Same problem. Today returned from service. The screen has been changee. No warranty, it was 111 €.
My touchscreen stopped working, soft reset didn't help. I didn't try hard reset, so maybe it's not the same, but when I removed the battery for the moment it started working. Try it

s.magus, what do you mean no warranty? isn't there a warranty from HTC? Which country did you buy the phone it, and when did you buy it?
unless there is an evidence of a physical misuse (broken screen or etc.) aren't they supposed to repair on their own expense!
I have warranty, but the service does not repair it under warranty. They say, it is the users fault. Too much pressure on the screen.
The saga ends tonight
Well, there have been some developments..more of complications.
Here's the short chronology of the RMA.
1) repairman refused to look at the phone, since he said there was a wrong software. and returned the phone. they charge 44$ if their repair offer is not accepted.
2) I reflashed back to the original 3 Rom, but left the Hard SPL in (overestimated their honesty)
3) repairman refuses to look at the phone, since he said there was a wrong software. and returned the phone. this time they tried charging 49$ claiming the prices went up. I did not have any agreement with them (the paper I signed when I delivered the phone says 44$), so I did not care about what happened to their prices, I pushed on 3; 3 pushed on them, i will pay 44$ again. 3 Denmark is paying the 5$ (They are "pleased" with their repair partner)
I can't blame the repairman (I guess his doing his job)
HTC said they are not obliged to service the phone under the warranty, but the support guy shared that they do not prohibit the repair center from servicing the phone either, even if the software is different, as long as the software does not look like the error causing factor, so the choice is on the repair shops discression.
Well in case of the Number1Service (which 3 Denmark uses), I know a guy who claims his board was replaced there (screen artifacts, but replacing the screen did not help), even though he was using a coocked ROM.
There're only two explanations i can see here.
1) the repairman was smart to see that the cooked rom could not have been an issue
2) The touch module costs 19$ to buy for people like us (and a lot cheaper for the repair centers/HTC), so perhaps it was not worth looking into an issue, since they could easily get 50$ if they did not repair the phone. The repair center is not a part of HTC, so they can play both ways (either get paid by HTC, or get paid by the user)
Be warned, don't put high hope on the service people if you are on a cooked software. If you have an RMA to go through:
- Flash your original ROM back
- Flash the original SPL back
HTC will take any chance to play it's "warraty void" trick. Perhaps it's a common case for other manufacturers as well, but I don't have any experience with those.
Even in Russia (which people sometimes underestimate in terms of the legislation), if you can not get the goods serviced under the warranty due to the warranty being void, the manufacturer is required by law to analyze and prove that the factor voiding the warranty is the actual cause for the problem observed in a serviced item.
The repairshop kindly offered to waive the 44$ fee if I left the phone for their "recycling". I appreciated their offer, but I requested the the phone back.
Has anyone else serviced their phone with a cooked ROM under the warranty?

thanks you for your rapid ask, but i sure , exist a solution for the brick.
my phoneis not guaranteed because I bought it used
SNIFFF
There's no current solution for a brick. A brick is a brick and you're done. Sorry
I had the same issued as you are having i was also stuck on the t-mobile logo screen because of the radio update, and yes my phone got brick. but since i had insurance on the phone i took it to my local t-mobile made up some excuse that my phone stop working and they gave me a brand new one in store for free. gotta love the extra at 5 dollars you pay for insurance saved me from buying a new one lol.
Yup, you've got a brick. Most common brick actually, downgrading radio 9/10 times seems to leed to a brick. Currently there are no working fixes. There are rumors that either a serial->USB cable might help fix a brick or wiring up a jtag setup. There's info about both on the interwebs but neither has been proven to work on the dream yet afaik.
Here is my question. What were you doing before the brick happened? By chance did you install the special spl?

This is horeible advice you never want to tell them you droped the phone, that's not covered under warranty. Just tell them the phone won't boot. But yeah sound like your phone is fubar.

How is it bad advice? Hardware problems are covered by warranty, software are not. the brick is a SOFTWARE problem. T-Mobile does not give replacement g1s that are screwed up because of something you installed that wasn't issued by T-Mobile themself. If you tell them you dropped it , its a HARDWARE problem and they provide replacements...

Telling them you dropped the phone and it no longer boots is your problem and they will say so. "Was it working before you dropped it?" Yes it was "Then it soulds like when "YOU" dropped the phone you messed it up" Hope you have the phone insurance that's the only way you are most likely going to get a new one but it's going to cost you.
While it's a software problem if you drop the phone and break it they do not have to replace it.

Oh god, fine then. You come up with a better story and post back I don't understand your last sentence...In the official tmobile g1 forums they state that they are not responsible for anything you do software wise to your phone ( root, ROMs, spl, brick, etc..)

simple The OTA got to you for cupcake and you went to install it when the phone rebooted it was stuck at the G1 screen. they will walk you through a few steps and confirm it's messed up. At that point they will send you out a replacement. You do not have to say anything about it being rooted. I just did this for my friends moms phone. He messed it up I called and got her a replacement sent. Now if you are not a T-mo customer you are out of luck though which sucks :/
Hell I had to do this for 2 phones. 1 G1 and 1 Shadow this past week (both phones were modded by me/friend) Shadow was a true hardware issue though and not the mods fault though.
just tell them your phone wont boot up if you cant get to recovery or android screen neither can they on your phone so they will never know what u did to it

Lol okay then. Still think that if you report a hardware issue like you broke it, T-Mobile will still replace it as long as you still have the 1 year warranty that came with it. Like Cyanogen's issue where his touchscreen was messedup. HARDWAREE issue and T-Mobile replaced it

I work for T-mobile and telling them you broke the hardware on the phone is NOT covered under warranty. The manufacture's warranty only covers phone defects not people dropping their phone. A touch screen going out is an example of hardware covered under warranty. Software is covered under warranty as well and all you have to say is the phone won't boot past the G1 screen. Thats all you have to say.
All right. I rest my case then O mighty T-Mobile worker. No sarcasm haha.
Yeah its true, you do have to be careful if you plan on using the warranty route if its not totally legit, but then I suppose it differs depending on region. Over here in the UK it covers quite a few things like accidental dropping of the mobile, water damage etc. Which reminds me, I need to add my mobile to my monthly insurance policy...
The insurance isn't really worth it =/ Even if you claim it you still have to pay 130$ here in NY
Blimey... I pay £6/m (thanks to my credit card policies) instead of the usual £9/m that covers the mobile phone over accidental damage, theft, water damage, software damage etc. However if I do make a claim I think its £30-£40 for a replacement G1.
HELP! Is my g1 bricked?
After reading a few other thread I believe my g1 is bricked.
I was trying to install Superhero G3. After installing the radio provided in this thread:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f56/official-hero-g3-build-rom-18471/
My phone hung at the T-Mobile g1 boot logo.
I can't get into recovery or anything.
I bought the phone from craigslist, so I don't have a warranty or anything. My parents would kill me if they found out I have to buy myself a new phone.
PLEASE I hope there is something I can do to fix this.

Brick Fix

im a tech for ATT and i have digested soo much info about taking apart the HTC g1 and the fix for a HTC g1 boot screen freeze IS..........wait for it. calling up HTC and telling them that " while i was in process of doing a OTA update the screen froze and wouldn't let me boot up" and something to note the dumber you sound the better like do not let them know that you know anything technical about the phone after they take your info they will ask for a CC number for a triage assurance (meaning if they find out that you broke the either dropping it or water damage youll be charged for them to send you back the phone).
What they will do is run a diagnostics test to see what the issue is soo if you bricked the motherboard then there is no way of telling if you rooted or unlocked the phone. i know this because i did it and it worked all it costed me was 28 bucks for shipping.
try out this method best of luck!!!!!
Or you can do what I did and take it to a tmobile store and get a new one without paying for shipping
That's DAMN lucky all my local store refuse to swap out phones, they say its done all on the phone with warranty exchange, I'm on my 5th phone, and now have a warranty returns managers personal cell number for if this one [email protected]%&@ up
5 phones!?
