I have hardspl'd, and without changing radio, got my WM6.5 going. I am currently on manilla radio, the oldest one, and want to upgrade to 1.11.25.1. But when I use the upgrading program it automatically assumes I am upgrading main ROM instead of the radio...Its hard to articulate but even with only the radio.nbh file in the folder it assumes I am going for a ROM update, or atleast tries to update that only which causes the whole thing to crash and my phone to reset. I am running a HTC Diamond GSM.

Whether youre upgrading using RUU or the internal storage method, the radio upgrade is perceived as a ROM upgrade. The reason it is crashing is that your phone is probably not security unlocked and you are trying to install a ported radio.. Just my guess though. Feel free to correct me.

Aloha everyone,
I have tried to not post for about 3 weeks but I just can't move forward. I have read and tried to follow everything on the site but I am just confused. I know this is a developers site and I am very intimiated to be castigated by you guys but...it's the internet so what the hell.
I have found numberous instruction threads pertaining to updating ROMS on the Wizard. It seems that up until recently there was only one way to do things but now there are many. As I try to answer questions I come into conflict over which way I shoudl be heading.
I currently have a working WIZ100 that boots with IPL 2.21.0001 SPL 2.21.0lip with GSM 2.25.11 and OS 2.25.11.1. I somehow got to this point, I think by following the instructions to get hardSPL on my device and booting on startup. I did not know if I next needed to find a ROM and if so then how to get that ROM activated on my device or what programs to do this with. I know that the threads spell it out but the threads pertain only to direct assumptions; the assumption that my head is not in my ass.
I wanted to attempt to put a new rom on here, for fun and to play around with something new. Perhaps increase reliability or to get WM6 going. I am stuck now though. Part of me wants to turn back and load the original ROM from the HTC site and the other part of me wants to try a new ROM as I already have this thing booting to the 0lip SPL.
Is anyone out there willing to help me either via this thread, personal message or IM?
Since you have already installed Hard SPL you should be safe to go ahead and pick virtually any ROM you choose on there. I don't have a lot of experience with Hard SPL yet, except for installing it on my kaiser, but the one thing I would guess that you should make sure that the ROM you want to flash doesn't have would be an IPL/SPL update included. As far as I know, I don't think any of the public ones that you find on here have them but make sure you read the chef of the ROM's entire post to make sure. And, if you magically happen to find my ROM somewhere, which you shouldn't since I only gave it to 2 people to try, don't flash it because mine does include an IPL/SPL update.
From my best understanding you have already loaded HardSPL and now are CID unlocked. If this is the case then I would recommend going forward and flashing a new rom to your device. Just go to the Wizard Mobile 6 thread and find one you like, and flash it.
Simple as that.
I appreciate your replies.
1) I am clarified like butter! What program do I download and use to flash the ROM to the Wiz, this has been a source of confusion for me.
2) If I download and install the HTC Cingular ROM from HTC, will that overwrite the HardSPL and return my phone to Factory Default, including the radio areas? In other words do I rid myself of 2.21.0lip?
Thanks for not beating my head in...very polite you devs are...
I like beating people's heads in, and you are far too polite, that I am actually having a very slight guilty twinge! Damn you. I have a G3 myself so I cannot help much, however, I found this sticky which may help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
I do know that once you choose your rom, you open the folder and run the item marked as ruu.
Now if you only had a G3, then I could fry you like the noob you are.
I suppose at some point, I should make a point of reading/learning about G4's. I know they are a far different animal from my G3.
That's the reason I said not to flash a ROM that contained an IPL/SPL upgrade since there is the possibility that it may overwrite Hard SPL, although I'm not positive of that, but better safe than sorry especially if it it's not an official ROM that carries the correct IPL/SPL format for a G4. If it doesn't contain the correct format for a G4 it could ruin your phone. If you flash an official ROM though and it overwrites it you can always just reinstall Hard SPL again and keep flashing. I hope this makes sense.
As for the files you need to flash a new ROM, they're usually included with the ROM. If they're not then just let me know and I'll upload them for you.
Good that you asked before damaging your (expensive) device...
Every Flash version comes with a RUU (Rom Update Utility) you just run that proggy and it does the rest.
To make it easier, look for a rom that states it's G4 safe (no IPL/SPL included), so you don't have to mess around with the inner files. If you want to, begin your tests with the TNT series, the latest build, stated in my sig is G4 safe, after that you'll be able to know the initial procedure.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the info.
Do I execute the ruu from Windows XP or from the SD card ont he device?
Why am I have a hard time searching for and finding TNT 5.2.1921 TouchFlo ROM?
The rom update utlity gives me an error when I try to update. Should I try to do all this from the sd card?
Well, I am plugging along. I rebooted after an error 300 came up on the rom utility. Any suggestions for me?
I found this thread, back in business, thanks for your help guys.
I guess my only unanswered question is...if I use the HTC ATT exe from htc.com will it kill the hardSPL and restore the computer back to normal?
If you have ROM on your desktop, Connect your phone to your computer via USB, open up Activesync, uncheck the check box in settings that allows USB connections. Make sure you have at least 50% battery, then put your phone into bootloader mode. (soft reset while holding down the camera button- keep holding the button for 5 sec.) a tri-color RGB screen should come up. This is boot loader mode. Then run the rom update utility program, and everything is automatic from there on. once it is done flashing the phone will restart itself.

Try it and find out. I'd kind of like to know the answer to that one too, although my phones a G3 and already CID unlocked anyway. You can always reinstall Hard SPL over again if it does.
So this worked out well for me overall. Installing HardSPL to my G4, and then using a correct bootloader with the right ROM (to review).
I am having one issue.
I have the OEM ROM, however the RUU gives me an error. Is there a documented way to restore the phone to an original status? Is it even necessary?
I ask due to problems since my upgrade to the TNT rom. I am noticing a lot of missed calls and people have complained. Is this an issue with the 8125 and the particular ROM?
I don't know what to ask, or how to search for this. Thanks for any input you can offer.
Otherwise the TNT rom is awesome. I do miss the voice dialing though. Thats another search.
Actually, that's usually an issue with your radio version. Try using either version 2.19 or farias 2.69 and see if that fixes your problem. You should be able to find both of them in the wiki and you may want to try both of them and see which one gives you the better reception because sometime one will work much better than the other for you depending on your location.
By the way, you don't have to be CID unlocked or have hardspl installed to update your radio so you shouldn't have an issue with the RUU giving you an error. If you do, let me know and I'll upload a different RUU for you to try.

So the Rom is broken up into major parts. Those parts must ineract with one another, so that would be why my radio version may be at cause?
Yep. The ROM can contain the IPL, SPL, OS, Splash Screens, GSM (the radio), and extended ROM, any of which can be changed or upgraded individually without affecting the other parts of the ROM (for all intents and purposes anyway). That means you can change your radio version without it deleting all of your settings or your installed apps in your OS, etc etc.
Since you still upgrade each individual part using a RUU that is able to update any of the parts you still get a warning when you run it that it will delete all of your files, but as long as the update that you're running doesn't include a new OS you can ignore those warnings.
I decided to back out of the entire upgrade and move back to WM5 Official Cingular HTC ROM. I am stoked that I now know the full process of taking a G4 through hardSPL, ROM updates and restoral.
I was too scared to try any radio updates or fixes. Maybe when I upgrade phones I will come back to playing with the 8125 but for now, I just need a good functioning phone for work.
Do these Cingular radio fix cabs apply to a standard phone or only to upgraded ones?
I have been trying to update my ROM lately with a new Radio and have been having one issue. Whenever I run the update utility, the screen will enter SPL Mode (all white) like it should, but when it enters SPL mode the activesync connection is lost, every time. I cannot get it connected again until I reboot the phone back into wm6, and then it connects to activesync just fine.
How can I get it to stay connected long enough for me to flash?
So to begin, when I want to update the radio, I should be able to update it in the same way I install a new ROM, correct? I use a SoftSPL file I found here and simply copy main file into that folder and then run start-SPL.
Anyone else experience this? It just seems to always disconnect and cause errors right before it updates the ROM.
The only thing that I can think of that could be causing it is the phone fell in some water for a couple seconds about a week ago. It's been drying out and seems to run ok again as of today. I was able to flash the ROM a couple times, so I know it's possible to flash. It took a couple of tries, but eventually did flash. However, I've tried about 10 times for the radio only (2.71.11) and it won't work.
Any ideas, other than it cannot be fixed due to water damage?
Note: I was just able to flash back to the cingular stock ROM (was using Jaguar 4.0). The stock ROM always seems to flash easily without difficulties - can unofficial ROMs not be flashed in the same manner? Just an .exe file that takes care of everything and never has activesync issues? It's flashing the stock ROM as I type, and it does not show the activesync connection is active. It was at first, but was lost (or appears so, anyways) as the flash began. The stock ROM is much easier to flash in my opinion and hasn't given me difficulties thus far, although other ROMs used to flash easily as well - not so much now.

First,You don't have to flash Radio Rom using 'SoftSPL',its an EXE file,it'll flash straight like an official stock rom,as it doesn't contain any IPL/SPL in it,it won't effect the bootloaders and the phone, its safe to flash to any device,G3 or G4,just connect your phone with pc via usb cable and run the Ruu included in the Radio Rom,it'll start to upgrade.
Secondly,YES! official stock Roms are easy to flash, cuz it contains official G3/G4 IPL/SPL included in them,it doesn't require CID unlocking the phone, whereas, custom build wm6 Roms require the phone to be CID unlocked and doesn't include IPL/SPL in it,so a G4 device cannot be CID unlocked, therefore, using 'SoftSPL' or 'HardSPL',its tricked into temporarily CID unlocked status, but actually its not CID unlocked.Hope its clear now

Man.. it is clear enough, but dude, you didn't tell how am I able to proceed with the ROM upgrade when the activesync issue occurs everytime I try to upgrade.
I am a total newbie on this and I am having the saame problem in here.
Hi people,
I recently decided to update my touch diamond to wm6.5.
Already got HardSPL 1.93 some time ago together with the swift rom.
Now I downloaded this rom:
BOGYSOFT WM6.5 Build 23060
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552162
And followed the instructions carefully, put the rom on the internal storage and started the update process as usual.
After it had finished installing I already noticed it took the phone way to long to completely boot into windows.
After a few reinstalls I finally got it to work but it was very slow and often I couldnt even unlock the damn thing.
At this point I cant even get into windows anymore.
Now ofcourse I want this rom removed from my phone, but is that even possible when I cant boot it into windows??
I need to have an USB connection to put on another rom, so is that possible without windows?
Thanks for your help!
I got the same problem. anybody help us?
I had a problem with an earlier version of this ROM, and the fix turned out to be quite simple.
I flashed my stock ROM back on and then re-flashed BOGYSOFT, ever since then been no problems what so ever.
I had flashed a few different ROM's to try before this it's possible I suppose that there may of been some corruption with repeated flashing.
I think the hardspl is affecting the phone's stability, cause returned back to the stock after flashing some cooked roms and it's bad more than before.....
any news?

Yes but dont you need to acces the phones internal storage to add a new rom?
Cause I dont know how to do that when I'm not even able to acces windows.
Anybody?
Is my phone bricked or is there a way to connect to the internal storage without WM?
Now it doesnt even boot the rom anymore,
The image has even dissapeared from my internal storage.
It is now stuck in the Bootloader telling me to trigger the USB host.
Any ideas?
My Diamond has been pretty unreliable over the last couple of days, but I used MTTY to format the internal flash, loaded the latest Gen.Y ROM (I don't think it really matters which ROM tho) and now it works perfectly again. Plus to me it seems a bit faster. Anyway I couldn't be happier.
If you can get into the bootloader with USB I'd certainly give the instructions in this flash a go (post 3 or 4 only if you're on Windows XP).

thanks mate!
dear developers,
i have a question about my HD. i've updated my spl booter, now i can install new roms from de cooks from the SD card. but i've now several problems.
i tried almost every roms thats available here on the forum but i get everytime the same problems.
- phone freeze's, so i have to reset the phone each time several times a day
- 3g/hspda connections lost, like on msn, email etc. again each time reset needed
those are 2 most important problems, you think you have a working phone but its frozen till you see it. its very disturbing
after this problems i went back to the original rom from the htc site. but now i get the same problems back.
so my question is how important the radio? is this maybe the reason of my problems or has other persons the same problems? or do i have a broken phone?
only the miri rom v38 isnt freezing but still the other problems
thanks in advance

What ROM are you using? What radio version do you have?
The radio isn't necessarily that important, although it is always a good idea to flash the latest. This sounds more like a flashing problem. When you flashed the ROM, did you hard reset? Have you tried using Task29 before flashing? This can also help you update your radio as you can use the latest version for this (and ensure a clean install).
those are data i get when start up right corner
R 1132524
G 52622534u
D 15621903
what do you mean by task29?
i copy the file to sd card. then boot and install the rom. after that i always hard reset by vol up and vol down and put the phone on.
shoull i flash different then?
thanks in advance

What you need to look at is the About Phone and software in the Settings Tab. That will tell you what you have installed.
Look in the main ROM thread for task29 for information on this and how to use it.
I assume that you have used HSPL to flash your ROM.
Radio IS IMPORTANT!
Not every radio is good for area where you live / mostly use your phone. Or provider you're using...
1. Every stock ROM installs radio and rilphone.
2. Almost none of the cooked ROMs install radio and/or rilphone.
3. Not every combination radio / rilphone is working good. Rule is that you use same or closest rilphone version with your radio.
In my area I have tried almost every radio from 1.12 up, and I'm most satisfied with 1.14. 1.17 gives me sometimes better phone reception, fastest GPS lock but eats battery fastest. So you have to test what fits you best...
Hello everyone and sorry for starting a new thread with so many threads already about installing custom ROMs. So sorry again....
First of all I want to say that I have installed Saturday my first custom ROM.
1. I installed HardSPL
2. I installed ROM (I got an error first time because my usb got diconnected - tricolour boot screen and an error code - could not see it; second time everything worked fine and I have now a new great looking ROM
3. I did not installed Radio.
1st question: Do I have to install Radio everytime I install a new ROM or is it ok if I keep my old Radio? - the phone works just fine.
Second question: Do I have to HardSPL everytime I install a new ROM?
Please be kind and reply to my questions even if it must have been already posted in some thread.
rarely can i answer a question but yours are easy LOL
You don't need to do your radio because the radio you have is untouched by roms.
Likewise if you do a radio it wont change your rom.
Radio's probably will not make much diffrence.
Once you have Hard spl it is done.
You can then flash as many roms as you want , but Hard Spl is just once
No and No.
Thank you guys.
The radio is stored on a different part of the memory then the ROM, so it doesn't get replaced when you flash a ROM (unless the ROM specifically includes it, like the new "official leaked" ATT ROM). And custom ROMs will never include the radio, that I know of.
A newer radio version MAY get you better battery life or GPS reception. But it can be very specific to your geographic location. It your choice whether to update your radio or not, its certainly not required. If you want, you are free to experiment, as you can always go back to the old radio if the new one doesn't work out. The process for flashing a new radio is essentially the same as flashing a ROM, except the actual process if done very fast.
As already mentioned, you only need to HardSPL once. The only way phone will become SPL locked back to factory condition is if you specifically do so using the provided relocker program on the SPL thread (for instance, to return the phone for warranty repair).
