I've finally decided to move up to WM6.1 on my TyTN II.
My question is, would the cab files I currently have installed on my unit (with WM6.0) still work once I upgrade to 6.1?
The most important programs I want re-installed are primarily the TouchFLO upgrades (TouchFLO cube, Random Access, Task Manager etc) and the media upgrades (HTC Album and Camera; TCPMP).
Also, am I right in assuming all the standard programs that were installed in my phone when it was new (Mobile Office, WMP, Adobe Reader, etc) will also be in the 6.1 installation pack? I'll be using the WM6.1 I downloaded from the HTC e-Club site.
'appreciate inputs
TIA

Not sure, but probably most of the yes, it was the case when I did it. You would need to reinstall these cabs because programs can't be correctly restored when doing a ROM upgrade, even with programs like Sprite Backup.

Task Manager, HTC Album and Camera are included. I am not using the others. If you do a search on the forum and to be sure, you will probably find these programs updated and also in 6.1 cooked ROMs.

Yes, in some cases updated versions will be installed plus a few improvements that you can find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375979 and by searching. I didn't miss any previous WM 6.0 programs after the upgrade.
I strongly recommend a full backup before upgrading.
I hope you don't use GPS then

I don't use any of those cabs but some of them seem to have WM 6.1 compatible versions from searching here. You do realise that many people have had issues with GPS performance since upgrading to WM 6.1 from 6.0. Personally I wish I'd held off until HTC had really sorted these problems out (they still haven't) but now I've done it there's no going back (unless I want to send the phone back to HTC for them to flash it to the original configuration or risk voiding the warranty if I do it myself).

Thats where I got mine from and yes those programs are still there, as mentioned already, some are improved.
Further to the suggestion anoano made about backing up, make sure your backup software is up to date enough to be able to restore the files you need to a newer OS. Some older versions have problems with restoring to a different OS than that used to create the backup. Check the backup software makers website if in doubt.
most cabs are universal among WM5,6 and 6.1. if they weren't then the description, filename or faq would mention if it was only for a certain version of WM
Thanks guys. This forum is the best!
Flying Kiwi, you're now two for two with me I wouldn't have known about the GPS issue if not for this forum. What GPS performance issues do you mean? I don't really use the GPS, but it would be a bummer to eventually need it, and for it not to work. I mean, I did pay for the hardware right? Any signs of HTC working this out?
gps works but it can be slow at times whether starting up,talking with satellites, etc. most of the gps issues are either applications issues or the radio

The ones that are also detailed in this forum, both in this thread *Hopeless* GPS after 6.1 Update? and elsewhere. This thread covers it quite well (apart from the reference to quick GPS being the culprit even though a radio change makes a big difference).

I think the first step is to get them to even acknowledge it as an issue. Let us know what HTC say to you about it (or the carrier if it's a carrier provided device). Just mention exactly what you've told us here that you're considering using the WM 6.1 update but that you have read online about major problems with GPS performance afterwards.
good work with this post; very helpful.

What I meant was, that's my second post that you answered
I'll check out that post you mentioned and will contact HTC as well.
Much thanks!
I have been using SecondToday in order to access my Today plugins in addition to using Rhodium Manila. Recently I discovered Manila Today Page, so I no longer need SecondToday for this. I would, however, like to use Rhodium Manila with the MTP, and somehow also use Titanium (also known as CHome), the standard Windows Mobile 6.5 interface.
I was able to do this previously using TFDetacher, however some functionality of Manila was lost (specifically, BT AVRCP). This solution would offer me the ability to use both interfaces as needed, without losing any functionality (hopefully). I have tried to simply add "Windows Default" as the only item in SecondToday, and, while it does show at startup, I can't get back to it after Manila starts (I have a video of this, but no way to post it).
Does anyone have any suggestions, or know of any other software I can use to accomplish this feat?
I would also like to know the answer to this..
I tried setting up secondToday this weekend with no luck..maybe this is a compatibility issue with wm6.5 and secondToday?

I haven't tried it much, but I pretty sure its compatibility issue between tf3d and windows default. Both of these plugins are designed to deactivate\override any other active plugin when they are chosen which doesn't make for good compatibility. I'm sure somewhere there is a way, just hasnt' been found yet that I know of.

Well, at least all my hopes and dreams aren't COMPLETELY crushed, lol.
At one point, I was actually able to use Rhodium Manila, CHome, standard Today, and SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 all at the same time. Actually, I could still do it, but I prefer the HTC Music Player (because I can use BT AVRCP w/it, and it won't become the focused window like WMP), though I like that WMP has a separate volume control.
Well, if there's a way, I'm sure someone will figure it out soon enough. It could even be me, who knows?
I have been trying to figure something like this out myself. I am currently running a stock 6.1, with MS 3.5. I had dcd's 2.27 ROM but was running into a couple problems, mainly DRM doesn't seem to like 6.5 ROMs and battery drain. While I was running 6.5, I never even ran TF3D, but instead just ran Titanium and MS 3.5. However, since I am back with 6.1, am back to running MS 3.5, and TF3d. My setup is running pretty smooth, great data connection and battery life, but I really miss Titanium. If anyone has a cab for it (just the main today screen part), or know of a way I could possibly get that to run that with 6.1, I would be more than willing to play around trying to get it all to work together.
EDIT: Oops, didn't see how old this thread was, sorry >.<
Has anyone been able to get their TP/Fuze running a 6.5 ROM to connect and be detected by Napster as a Napster to Go compatible device?
Since I flashed my ROM from PROven 6.1 to RRE 6.5, and any other 6.5 ROM, Napster no longer detects my phone when I sync via activesync, but the PC does recognize it.
i used to run shep's rom, and it would connect. However, many cooks remove it from their 6.5 roms.
I was about to make a thread about this myslef.
To all the cook's out there, can we get a cab to install the removed drivers required for DRM to work.
I realize there are some instability issues with DRM and win mobile 6.5, but i personally would be willing to live with those if it meant having this capability.
I cried a little inside when I had to downgrade from Energy 3.0 back to 2.0 because my device would go unrecognized...
Maybe I can find where the drivers are and get them seperatly? I'll see what I can do.
I posted on NRG's 3.0 thread a few times, and sent him a private message. I loved that ROM.
I am not going back to Shep's, hopefully his new version still has DRM.
Guys, I hate to be someone who keeps crying about something... but this is one of the benefits of a win mobile phone.
Would it be at all possible to get this functionality?
Thanks
i flashed 6.5 and notice right away that napster would not recognize, went back to 6.1, , bummer. hope, in time i hope its able to work.
Please...
Can someone create this fix for us DRM users.
I've just tried dumping a stock diamond rom and then re-cooking it unchanged using ervius' latest kitchen (as I was planing to slowly upgrade the SYS/XIP and packages to try and see when it stopped working) and it doesn't work straight away.
We know that Da_G uses Ervius' kitchen too and it looks like the Juicy 8 roms are also built using a PlatformRebuilder based kitchen.

the same problem with napster and i-player downloaded movies
Hi,
I also used Duttys ROM and even dropped him a letter about it today. Maybe that is really just one simple fix. Napster is not working and Media Player is no longer downloading DRM from internet while playing movies and programms from BBC i-player.
Help....
Just flashing the ROM back to the old version...
We should probably move this thread to the ROM development section as this does not seem like a software problem.
Could a Moderator be kind enough to do this for us.
that would be great
some people really like the fact that HD can do a lot of things at once and having 5GB of music is one of those things
It would be a great thing to have WM6.5 ROM and have all DRM working.
Thank you for understanding, moderator
I have been working a bit with Juicy on this and he is reporting that DRM will be fixed in his upcoming release. I think it's a PlatforRebuilder issue but not sure.
I did some testing and the DRM Device certificate required to have the device recognized is not present.
Hopefully Juicy will indeed have it fixed.

Hi ahuskins, did Juicy manage to get this working in the end?
the latest build log shows
Code:

but from reading the thread I'm not sure.

If it is fixed, would it be possible to get this as a CAB, or are these deeper kernel changes? I ask because I am using NRG's Mercury rom right now.
Haven't been around for a while. I can report that the DRM issue was NOT fixed in Juicy's latest build. I have not seen anywhere that it is working in WM6.5.
I wonder if it was removed in the latest builds of WM6.5, or maybe the people who are providing said builds are removing it. Maybe we will have to wait for WM6.5 to come out before we get this resolved.

could you elaborate a little? How exactly do we use these to access Napster togo?
I hated to do it but I dropped Napster for EMusic which is definitely inferior. Also does anyone know if Pandora is useable on the Fuze or Diamond P3700?
Yes Pandora is usable for the most part. There is a thread here in the Software section(I can't find it right now).
I have been reading though sound taxi, and it seems very interesting. It converts the WMA Protected files to mp3 format which you can then use Media Player or any such application to manage and transfer.
I will play around with it more, thanks for the tip buffalosolja42. I just think there may be some legal caviots with Napster To Go, but if you have an active subscription i think it would be alright.
Seems a bit wrong having to rip the DRM out of napster to use it when it should be there already?
Touch HD here, i love my Miri 6.5 builds but napster makes my phone so much more, so i downed to a dutty 6.1 and still it won't sync!
I cried inside
If we could be told if a cab is even possible it'd be great, i'd like to try it at least!
Im getting an X1 tommorow and i will do a lot of mods and stuff.
But what should i do first there is so much to do im confused on what i should do, what did you do first with your x1? If you could post a list of what you did when you got an X1that would be great
(p.s if you have time to post links to threads it will be much apreciated)
Configure it. Go through all settings available and set everything to your convenience. Then set up your e-mail addresses and favorites in Opera/IE. If using a custom ROM is an option for you, don't do too much until you've decided on a ROM and then flash that.

Yes you should. But if you're buying a new one it should be up to date. Anyway, many users here build their custom ROMs optimized for speed or with many applications, more internal space because of less annoying features (No panels for example) and so on. Personally I am not using any of these. Other people here are crazy about them, though. Know that you don't get warranty if your phone has a custom ROM. So if ever there's a problem with your X1 you will have to be able to flash back to the original ROM otherwise you will not have warranty. Keep that in mind if you want to do it. I'm not telling you to.

KK thanks, don't think i will bother with roms.
You definately should...! I thought I wouldnt, but Im a flashaholic, touchflo is much better than xperia home screen, and you still get panels, as is titanium form winmo6.5! Definately worth flashing one with both, then going into settings, today, items tab and selecting either touchflo or windows default! The two are different. I would recommend Itje, Agent47 or EnergyRom if you prefer touchflo (although many have winmo6.5 only versions) or Gtrab for winmo6.5! Seriously so worth it! Hardspl first, and read all ofthe instructions carefully and you cant go wrong, then use the rom collection to flash back to what you had, then soft spl and send it back if you donmt like it or need a repair, no fuss! Twenty minutes work or so! They are just twimmed and improved versions of the original xperia interface. On all but one landscape is good, keyboar works etc etc etc!
Then check out rotastrains mods for touchflo if you go touchflo, or check out the winmo6.5 goodies page for some seriously cool ideas. Try gtrab's panel library for custom panels, beta and rare ones! It will make your xperia amazing!

Do i need roms to install panels (ie You tube)?? I want to have a go at creating my own panels.
1st thing I'd do it download and install the Audiopara CAB so you can at least hear the thing ring. (There are a few threads around here on it).

No! You don't need it 'cos panels are standard X1 feature!
As for me, I would say TouchFlo 3D is just a esthetic crap,
compared to SE's homescreens, but it's a matter of taste.
As for ROM's, as well as they make great things,
they also perform unexpected problems so consider that.
Usually things are under the cover and sometimes it's very hard to find
a solution.
I work on SE's ROM, no cooking,
and the device works really well.

4- what r the mods or tweaks that i might consider to do first?

1) Xperia is great in many ways, and you would be investing in something that can last for a long time. Right now, there are no serious draw back to it, at least Physical wise. Its been a long time since it's initial release date, so I would expect Ericsson to have tweaked the structure for its advantage. The best part about the xperia x1 is that its very compatible, and can withstand many different types of ROMS
2) In short, yes, but only through ROMS
3) ROMS are to Operating systems as Phones are to Computers; or its the operating system of the phone. Yes, the operating system gets changed when you flash a ROM to your device (Mobile 6.1 is boring anyways). There are a couple ways of doing this, which you shoudl read up on, but in general, you hardSPL your device from your computer using a program (which allows custom ROMS to be transformed to your device), and then use the computer to run a customRUU, in which the new custom ROM is then transferred to the device. There are other ways of doing this, but you can research that yourself.
4) I recommend either Phoenix 2 or valkyrie 6.0, which are custom ROMS with a ton of tweaks already preloaded in them. Go to the ROM threads for more info.
Thanx So Much For Ur reply,
so u r saying that i can have WinMo 6.5 without any mods or with mods?
is this process hard that i might kill the phone or something? if it is not easy like placing some files on the phone and enjoy, can i backup the whole thing so i can flash it back to the state which i bought it in? cause i'm new to the whole WinMo thing, also will it spoil the warranty? cause if so, i'll stick with mods on the normal WinMo 6.1 for a while.

Yep, you can either find a clean Win 6.5 ROM with nothing pre-loaded into it, or one with stuff pre-loaded into it. The process is easier than I first thought: just hardSPL your device, which an app does for you, and then do the same thing for ROMS, in which you dowload the ROm, hook up your computer to your phone, and launch the customRUU exe that comes with it. A lot of peopel might say its way more complicated, but this is generally it. Search hardSPL in forums.

1- manila is another name for Touch Flo 3D, which is HTC's proprietary GUI. Since it's extremely finger friendly and easy to use, a lot of cooks include it in their ROMs
2 - sync your phone using active sync, there is a check box that will let you use your desktop's internet on your X1 as long as your phone is connected via active sync (sorry for being vague, i don't have AS installed)
3 - most cooked ROMs already have flash support for internet browsers. for stock ROMs, there are cabs around that'll give you flash (again, sorry for being vague, i'd been using cooked ROMs for more than a year and all of them have flash)
4- Manila has the Audio Booster app has EQ settings. You can also try windows media player, nitrogen, coreplayer... there are tons of music apps for WinMo
5- Look for the "audiopara" cab somewhere in the forum
thanx so much for these useful info., so is manila a .cab that could be installed, cuz i'm downloading a 33 MB file that is supposed to install touchflo panel it's a .cab i think.
right now i'm looking for a good audio player, and a divx player, BTW can I play Rmvb video files on the xperia??
regarding the audiopara i searched but all i found was related to roms or certain roms: new roms, and others that i don't rembember the name but the prob. is that I don't know which one will work for my x1, can u help me?
