so after many many Cyanogen releases, my phone is not as responsive as it once was. I am wondering if I should wipe and reflash the devphone ota update then cyanogens and if I do will it brick my phone? I have the 22i radio and the "Danger" spl. From what i remember, the ota update writes the radio. It is the 22i one, but with it rewriting it will it brick my phone when it does?
or
should i just do a wipe and reflash just cyanogens?
you mean you have the 26I radio...
Are you talking about the HTC recovery ota that you flash first before you flash before Cyanogen's?
That is basically what HTC refers to as an update.zip
If it does flash over the radio, which I don't think it does, it already is the 26I radio, so it won't hurt anything.
But I have flashed over Cyanogen several times using the same process, and it has not bricked my phone. You will have no problems either.
Yes sorry, the 26I, and i am talking about the update.zip that you flash before Cyanogen's. I thought I was ok, i just wanted to check that rewriting the radio, even if it is the same wouldn't brick the phone
This may be the wrong thread but I'm hoping I can get some help. I'm running dwang 1.17.1 with a 26I radio. Can I flash the haykuro "danger" "death" spl? I want it because some themes require it. I have the correct board "PVT" when I look in fastboot, I'm just wondering since I have the ram hack if this will brick my phone or not. Noob question, I lnow. TIA. Ill post this else where if needed... ill watch family guy till then
you have the radio that you need to flash over the spl.
the ram hack has nothing to do with the spl. it is only for that rom. for example, if you have cyanogen 4.2.11.1 and you upgrade to 4.2.12.2, the ram hack goes away. It's part of the boot.img.
You can flash the danger spl, but be warned, even if you have everything right, there is still a possibility that something could go haywire and it could brick your phone.
afterwards, you will have to reflash a rom once the spl successfully installs.
Good luck.
Thanks taz. Ill try it out

I am running JF 1.51 with app2sd. I am really wanting to try the magic rom. I have the latest radio that was required to update to cupcake. I am nervous about updating the SPL because I accidently install the radio twice on my last G1 and it fried it. Is it worth the switch? If so how do I change from JF and then go to the Hero rom? I have found some stuff but nothing on switching SPL from JF to any other without bricking my phone.
Thanks in advance....
Sorry not magic rom HERO ROM.
Make sure your phone has the PVT board (it will tell you in your current SPL screen). If you do, I recommend this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3816278&postcount=3
I followed to a "T" without any problems.
Good luck and a little positive energy toward your fone never hurt You will need the newest SPL to load HERO due to the size of the ROM. I know some people have piece-mealed their on HERO builds making them smaller than the orig Haykuro one, but I think they all still require the newest SPL. Just remember, more than just a couple of people have bricked their fones flashing this SPL...
Aloha-
That just seems odd to me I am not sure... So I should have JF 1.51 on one card and the SPL on the other? Which goes in first. I have the JF boot loader now. How do you know what SPL you have? Can I update from one to the other without bricking?
Hold camera then power and the SPL screen will come up and tell u what version u have (if it's rainbow screen you are still on stock). There are many threads dealing with flashing the SPL. Check Haykuro's blog also. I don't want to give some information and someone have bad results. So I recommend reading all that u can before you try.

These are a good place to start. U might need dig around a little, and I recommend reading a lot. Don't try it if you're not comfortable.
Ok thanks I will do some more reading... I have stock then... When i rooted it it was the rainbow... Thanks again.
Ok Want to check to make sure...
This iis what I got on the Rainbow screen...
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.19.26i
So I should be able to follow that first tutorial you sent becuase I take it that this is a PVT board.
One last thing If I do update the SPL can I stay with JF builds if I decide too?
Anyone? I have been searching and I can not figure out some answers. Like if I do not want to update to hero now and stay with JF can I? Or if I do in the 2 card tutorial on updating SPL can I have hero already or since I am on JF 1.51 now do I have to stay with it then after done wipe then install hero rom?
Changing the SPL will not limit you to a specific ROM so you should be able to run Haykuro's 1.5, JF's 1.5 (including all variations) as well as HERO etc... Some ROM's larger size necessitate the use of the newer SPL because it's smaller (the SPL that is). Also need to remember that once you commit to the new SPL, you cannot downgrade the radio as per Haykuro. Be careful moving from the stock SPL to the newest one. I'm not sure if there could be any problems, you might search for something related to that subject. Also, what's really great about using non-stock SPL's is that they allow the use of fastboot to reflash the .img's created by the Recovery console. Which means once you have a good stable ROM on your fone, you back it up and play with your fone all u want (pretty much) knowing that u can go right back to the "good" build you backed using just 3 simple commands from fastboot. Good luck.

I've got a few questions, hope no one minds answering. If it's a simple case of RTFM then lock the thread and trash.
1. I've rooted and am using the latest JF build but when I go to telnet I can't connect to localhost anymore. Is this normal?
2. I'm running stock SPL and Radio (not too sure what the radio is btw). Is it best I update before flashing anymore roms?
3. I'm wanting to flash to Cyanogen Mod rom, it looks a lot more complex than simply renaming the rom to update.zip then flashing. Is it safe to assume that there is a lot more work to do? (if so a general point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated).
I really appreciate any help.
Thanks
1. I'm not sure as it has been some time since I last used JF's build I'm afriad...
2. Its advisable at the very least to upgrade your radio (look at my signature for a link). You can upgrade your SPL too providing you have flashed the latest radio FIRST and that you are on a PVT motherboard.
Boot into the SPL to find that out (turn off/reboot the mobile, Hold CAMERA+POWER). It should say at the top.
3. To use Cyanogen's ROM its like flashing any other ROM. Just make sure you have the latest Radio FIRST. Also I believe it works fine for non Apps2SD users so no need to partition your SD card etc to use it.
Hope that helps.
Stock SPL? do you mean HARDSpL?

Unless it was updated while rooting it's probably "G1 Original SPL"
Thanks NeoBlade, I'll update the radio and spl tomorrow then probably try and get nandroid running so I've got a backup in case anything goes wrong.
No worries digital, just do your usual pre-checks before flashing the SPL and remember Radio first ^_-
You'll enjoy the new features and performance improvements using the latest cooked ROMs out there. Most of the info is in my signature but you can also flash the new Recovery image too by Cyanogen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523558).
Not only can you create a Nandroid backup from there, you can also restore it too all from your mobile ^_^
Not to be an @ssh*le, but if you root your phone don't you already have the HardSPL? If you follow Koush's guide you were told to flash the HardSPL which isn't the stock SPL at all. Care to shed some light on this?
He could have had the engineering SPL, I remember having that briefly myself in the early days. The main thing is that he just wants to run Cyanogen's ROM so as long as he updates the radio and flashes the ROM without issues it should be fine. Unlike some Hero ROMs it doesn't require the latest SPL to create space for the ROM.
Granted though, its often always nice to have the latest stuff ^_-
Ok well if you DECIDE to update to the latest radio and SPL just go to my guide below and go to the second post. That will tell you how to install the radio and spl updates!
Good luck!
Indeed ^_^ And once that's done, perhaps change the title to SOLVED so people know. We shall have to wait for digital to get back to us about it.
This is the guide I used:
http://haykuro.theiphoneproject.org/?page_id=35
Sorry alritewhadeva:
I'm on the HardSPL so I guess I don't need to bother updating that again. I didn't get to the point where it said to update to the newest radio.
Reading a bit further it also says that I can do a backup easily using adb which is already setup. At some point in the process it must have installed the things needed for nandroid backup. I think it was the recovery.img part.
Thanks for the great link Nephron, I used it before to setup adb on my netbook (running win7 on my main machine).
Before I flash the latest radio is it safe to do this *after* updating the spl?
Thanks for all the great help, I really appreciate it.
As a thumb of rule, always flash the radio first before the SPL and the ROM.
Tell us how it goes ^_^ If you've managedto do it, could you please edit the title then to add SOLVED? Good luck.
Soo do you have to flash the radio and SPL everytime you want to flash a rom??? i already have the latest radio, i just want to make sure i dont make a mistake

No you don't. Only once... then kind of keep an eye on the forum to see if better radio or SPL comes along. So far I had to update my radio once. What recovery image do you have (home+power), is it still JF1.43? You should update that to CM 1.4, you get a lot more flexibility with that... read up on it in development forum. All in all, unless you plan to install Hero anytime soon (and I personally don't recommend it, too slow and buggy) you should be good with (in that very order)
1. Flashing newest RADIO (Haykuro has it in the link you provided, only need to do it once and you already did it!)
2. Flashing HardSPL (you already did that too! no need to do it again)
2. Updating your Recovery Image (once more, this only needs to be done once)
After that - flash any rom you feel like at any time you feel like doing it.
Hope that helps, good luck!
I agree with everything borodin1 said. If you're on a 1.5 ROM you really should have the new radio already, but you can always go back and flash it. Afterwards you'll want hard SPL or haykuro's. Haykuro's is what you'll need for most HTC based ROMs (Hero, Rogers). Most people brick when flashing Haykuro's ROM because they don't read. Aslong as you have the new radio and a PVT phone (go to the bootloader - home + camera - and it should say PVT) you will be fine.
Just a quick question regarding flashing the Hard SPL. Can it be flashed after a ROM has already been loaded and is running? Currently I'm running Cyanogen 4.0.2 with the stock SPL on a G1 and would like to flash the Hard SPL, but am unsure if I can just go ahead and flash it without any detrimental effects.

Yes you can flash the HardSPL. It won't affect the ROM you are using. The DangerSPL repartitions your flash memory, but I found if I reflashed the same ROM I was using before the flash, it was exactly the same as I left it.
Thanks a lot for the quick answer. I was fairly sure this was the case, but didn't want to go flashing anything until I was 100%.

make sure you have the right version of the dream for hardspl, i bricked one with hardspl and since flashed the 2005 spl succesfully on the replacement
I am looking into upgrading to the Haykuro SPL since it works for all ROMs and the HardSPL doesn't work for all ROMs, but I am worried about bricking. According to what I've read, and on Haykuro's website, I need to
1. Flash Latest Radio
2. Flash Special SPL
I've already flashed the new radio, do I need to do it again then flash the SPL back to back, or am I OK since I already have the radio.
I just want to do it right so I don't brick.
Thanks.
which radio did you flash? htc or haykuro?
you should flash the haykuro radio again just to be safe, but it doesnt have to be back to back as long as you have the haykuro radio. Make sure its the 26I radio by booting into the spl
that's the one 26I, but I made do it again just to make sure. Will not hurt huh? Thanks

Flash it again if you wan't, personally I wouldn't. No reason to, and every time you flash the Radio or SPL, whether you meet the requirements or not there's always a tiny, minute chance something could go wrong.
As long as you have the 26i radio, you'll be fine.
If you're using cyans recovery make sure you flash it using alt-s then reboot using home+back. Do NOT touch the trackball, if you don't use alt-s, home+back it will not be flashed correctly. It won't brick, it just simply won't install.
Good luck, you'll be fine. I spent over an hour flashing Danger because I was sh*ting myself worrying about bricking, but it went fine
Afterwards you wont we able to boot the phone because the nand has been formatted and partitioned. If you boot in to recovery and type 'ums_enable' you will be able to copy a rom to your SD card, then 'ums_disable' to unmount.
That alt-s, home+back thingmajig only applies for radios and SPLs, nothing else.
Well the reason i told him to flash the radio again is because some people are actually bricking when using the stock 26I radio. IDK if its cause they are noob or because there is some problem with it, so its safer to reflash.
Hey Dookie (NCSU here), are you just dying to flash a hero rom or something? I'm not certain if it is true, but I read if you flash the Danger SPL, you may be stuck with that one and not be able to flash another.
I'd be cautious, hero is not worth being stuck with that SPL or a brick in my opinion.
you can revert the SPL, nothing is keeping it tied it on there
I've always flashed roms with RA recovery, "old school" method.
I'm kind of intrigued by using rom manager to flash a rom..I've always wanted to test it out, see how easy it would be to flash a rom in there from SD card or downloading CM from rom manager. Just curious to see it in action.
So, are there any froyo roms that can be flashed without Danger SPL?
or, can I flash danger spl without losing data?
When I've done those things before, I just did it the typical way in recovery. Now, I'm on complete stock(thought I could get a phone replacement, but turns out my warranty was up..thought it wasn't), and I wanna test Rom manager!
Can anybody help? Couldn't find any clear answers.
