I have an AT&T tilt that has been out of commission for some time, finally repaired the screen and put it back to work. I decided to try the HTC Western EzInput since it was the same as on the new Tilt II and Pure that I've been looking at.
I put it on and everything runs as documented, just some SIP change issues and everything else seems fine, except the hardware keyboard function layout is all wrong. I have searched forums and google and can't find a keyboard layout file that matches this keyboard. This is not an issue to be fixed with the tilt keyboard fix, its more than just a couple symbols off, I can't even type numbers at all with the hardware keyboard.
I know I need a 4 row, 29 key, keyboard layout file to make this work properly with the eT9 settings, but I just can't seem to find one. I also can't seem to find the information needed to modify one of the existing layout files to match.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to adjust myself to using touch only, but their are situations where the hardware keyboard is just more useful.
Oh and btw, I am using shifu's WM6.5 WWE V4.2 rom and loving it, just want my hardware keyboard working properly
Double that for me as well. Every version of ezinput 2 i have found so far for qvga f*** up my keyboard layout. If there is a version that don't, I would love to see it.
What I would have to do was once I installed EZInput, I'd install the Tilt Keyboard fix (you can easily search the forum) then soft reset.

I'd like to use the HTC Touch keyboard on my Tilt for the times that I don't want to slide out the keyboard, but installing it seems to break the autocorrect feature when I am using the hardware keyboard. I see a few other people mentioning this in various threads, but I have yet to see any mention of a solution to this problem. I've tried all sorts of combinations of enabling and disabling autocorrect and various xt9 features, but the only way I can get autocorrect back is by uninstalling the HTC Touch keyboard.
By autocorrect, I'm referring to the ability to type in "il" and have it automatically change to "I'll"
Hi - did anybody find a solution to this? I've been searching high and low!
I'm in exactly the same boat - I love HTC keypad as it really helps me use the Kaiser one-handed, but I really miss the auto-correct on the hardware keyboard.
Is there a version of this SIP that doesn't break auto-correct?
I tried the HTC phonepad, but just couldn't get used to it after using the newer Keypad.
I would love to have a good T9 style SIP, but also have autocorrect on the hardware keyboard......anybody that can help?
Thanks!
I'd noticed that too, quite annoying as the touch keypad is so useful.

I too found the same issues yet I loved the T9 input using the touch pad. I removed the xT9 one and installed this one instead.
You still get T9 and it works fast too. The internal keyboard auto correct also works with it too.
Is also made by HTC but can't remember where I found it. May have been on here before or recently.
I've been earching for a solution to this as well for months now. The autocomplete that XT9 disables is part of wm6 which it calls "word completion." When XT9 is installed via htc keypad, word completion ceases to work along with the feature that auto-fills contacts as you start to type a new SMS.
Thanks for posting that pkonepad cab, but unfortunately.that' the sip that radatia mentioned above. The buttons on the new HTC touch phonepad are bigger and easier to use.
What we really need is someone here that knows some programming to somehow alter the touch phonepad so that xt9 can be toggled on and off (without a registry change and restart), or better yet somehow change it to use a T9 like the phonepad's instead of xt9...
I have exact same problem. I love the htc virtual keyboard because became useful. However once I installed it, the hardware keyboard word completion no longer work I need that too because I use it.
I have another question, do anyone know if I can make the default windows word completion to auto select the top most word suggested list so I can just enter space bar to select it. Now I always have to use down key to select the word 1st. Not efficient.
Just wanted to bump this topic. There have got to be others out there who share our frustration... and someone who can put an end to it!
I've given up on the HTC Keypad, much as I like it and it making the device usable one-handed.
Have moved onto the PocketCM Keyboard as my preferred SIP just so that I can still keep word completion when using the hardware keyboard.
Hope that someone posts here if a solution is eventually found......
oh man!
I'm the opposite.. how I wish the hardware keyboard is not auto correct enabled when I use it.
I've tried dis-abling the auto correct etc.. dun seem to work..
now using Resco keyboard..
it's the next best thing, but kinda defeats the purpose of getting the tytn II in the first place.
Yes the touch keyboard has many issues when used on kaiser. i can't get autocomplete to work with the hardware keyboard either unfortunately.
I do know that "multiword completion" in the xt9 settings or whatever is a bad thing and causes other problems, so i uncheck that. But, still can't figure out how to get autocomplete to work.
I spent a lot of time searching and installing/uninstalling these things to try and find a perfect mix, no luck though. It's still QUITE usable for me, but i would like auto complete for hardware keyboard, though, i dont think i'd use it as i type realy fast anyways with it.
It's quite hard to justify buying a keyboard when we are able to install a free one that *almost* does what we want! pcmkeyboard with iphone buttons and XL touch skin is good, but i am realy starting to like xt9.
:-( i have this problem now and love the keyboard...
Hi,
I don't know what I've done, but when I'd like to write some message, or whatever, the original keyboard (full qwerty, or compact qwerty) keyboard starts up with the symbol pad and it's not possible to switch it back to alphanumeric mode. The only way is to invoke keyboard switch menu and select the same keyboard again. then it works as usual. Does anybody have the same problem?
as I said, I don't know, what I've done, or installed, bud I think, I've installed Advanced config 3.0 recently
I have the same problem... I also don't know what is wrong.
I also tried to disabled T9 with some tricks... that's all...
Some suggestions??
Thnx
Since yesterday I also have a problem with my HTC keyboards.
All 3 options, Qwerty, Compact Qwerty and the phonepad only gives me numbers.
I have tried all the settings.
It does not make a diverence if i turn of T9.
On the keyboard i can see the nummbers and the letters.
This is very irritating, can somebody please help?
Or is there an original cab version, al the cabs i can find are Qvga.
I have tried the Touch keyboard and it gives letters in stead of numbers, but its Qvga.
Thanks
Same problem here on the CDMA Diamond, I tried two different ROMs already the Sprint Stock ROM and a Telus Custom Juicy's 2.0 ROM. I can't use it at all and I hate doing a Hard Reset. Someone shed some light on this please.
Same problem here, have tried everything
Well I solved the problem by uninstalling PCM Keyboard... Too bad, I really liked it
Does anybody know if it's possible to run pcm keyboard without having this issue on the diamond?
since day 1 my keyboard did not show predict text ? anyone can help me ?
I had the same problem , it appeared from nowhere ..
After also trying different tricks , i solved the problem using Resco Keyboard
Pro ... It also responds much better to my taste with the touch screen
interface of the diamond.
I have had this problem on the Touch Pro too having used PCM keyboard.
Unistalled it and all back to normal.
Pity.
Same here, alas PCM's copy & paste was cool, but not if I can't use the other keyboards...

How do you use copy & paste with PCM? Which version of PCM keyboard are you using?
Oh joy. Now that HSPL is approaching and there is even a great-looking 6.5 ROM in the offing life is beginning to have meaning again (how sad that sounds).
Could anyone tell me what the situation with keyboard drivers on Rhodium is? While I absolutely want an English OS I would hate to loose my Scandinavian "ÅÄÖ" characters on the HW keyboard. On the Kaiser there was a small driver that had to be nstalled each time I got a new ROM. I'm guessing it will be the same for Rhodium? Is anyone with more IT competence than me (=anyone ) given this any thought at all?
Thanks/M
please note, that layout is different, i had this problem with touch pro first version, i had to use some addons created to have the layout for finnish
version.
You just need to change the layout as execine said. Sometimes you have to add the layout if a prebuilt one does not exist. I am sure it can be ripped from an official rom for your country of origin.
well if really WM sucks in this area, I need at least 2 languages - and layout changing will not help at this situtation - because these languages have totally different chars.
why it's so hard for microsoft to make ADD KEYBOARD like it's done in windows XP?
lol it's version 6.5, how much more releases they have to done - just before they'll do this pretty simple feature?
It actually does exist. My sisters old Wing had it. Talk to aserg and ask him how he did it. I don't know. He had a way to use 2 different hardware keyboard layouts by hitting a softkey.
yes, it exist. e.g. at rhodium russian edition there are special button even at hardware keyboard, to change layouts. but if you want to use it at your locale you need to hack it. becuase there is no easy way to activate it on another rom. all others solutions mostly works for virtual keyboard - and this way you'll get new visual design - what I don't want to do, and others just for hw keyboards - what is not ideal either

Except my sisters device was an US device....
This thread has a hardware keyboard mapping utility. You can even have it run at startup. All that needs to be done is to create a custom layout file for the Scandinavian TP2.
I think i just found out that EZInput is a HTC addon only working with touchflo (which is called manilla?). Could someone confirm/deconfim that please?
I'm running a ROM called Revolution which runs titanium (without touchflo) - it frees up more ram which i really like (i kept running out of ram).
I really really hate that qwerty keyboard since it's so hard to hit with a finger (not using the stylus a lot) i remembered the old htc input thing that would put 2 or 3 letters on one button (old t9 style or the compact thing i think it's called?)
How can i install a keyboard that does that for my titanium?
Nope EZInput works with both Manila and Titanium. I think the input you're refering to is called the Phone Keypad. You could try out my latest ROM, you can choose between Full Qwerty, Compact Qwerty, Phone Keypad and Swipe inputs. (please read the instructions before you install my ROM)
...but if you want to stay with your current ROM then there is a registry edit that you can do to change your current input to Phone Keypad.
Ok thanks for the input I might check out your ROM, atm fighting to get WiFi working again...
I have the ATT Tilt 2, I flashed my first rom and it is working fine, the only problem I have is the Qwerty keyboard has changed. It is now setup like the touch pro2. How can I get back my original att keyboard setup without changing my new rom?
If you use the search function on this forum, you will find cabs that will map the keyboard for you. Or there might be a way to do this built into your ROM (e.g. in EnergyROM there is a built-in fucntion for this).
Helpful
Thanks will try
Do the following
Start--Tools--Carrier Provisioning -- then pick whether you want "ATT (Main)" or "ATT (Proxy Disable)"
i think you would want the first one though. make sure its on, save the changes, and restart and you will be good to go
