I can't find any info about hard resetting X2 anywhere... Isn't it possible on this phone? I need to reset the user code...
Edit: Solution was to update the phone with SEUS. It lets you reinstall firmware even though you already have the latest (unlike normal SE phones).
While the phone is powered down:
- Push the two front skinny buttons down simultaneously
- While doing that, *briefly* press the power button (ie don't press and hold it)
- When the screen with instructions comes up, you can stop pressing the skinny buttons
- Follow instructions - basically press 'r' on the keyboard when it asks
EDIT: My bad -- thought question was about X1
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, that does not work - it just boots up normally.
Have you tested this yourself? Is the SE logo supposed to show up?
And the "skinny buttons" - are those the call/hang up buttons? Are there four buttons on the front, or only two? (i mean, is there a button both above and below the short line sticking out, or are they just one button?)

He was asking for instructions for the X2. Are they the same as the X1's?
theres a small pin hole on the back under the battery cover. top left just under the camera. seem to remember reading in the instructions that its some kind of hard reset. not sure if it will do what you require. youll need a pin or tiny screwdriver...

I've already tried holding the two buttons while pressing it (like on X1), but that doesn't work. And the instructions manual says nothing about hard reset - only soft reseting using this hole.
The closest thing i have found is this article about hard reset:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/detailed/toperformahardreset/x2/xperiax2?lc=en&cc=en
But the problem is that it misses the only essential thing: how to do it...
I think the only known way is: settings\system\clear phone memory. It resets the phone to factory default. The button in the whole is only a soft reset button like in case of X1.

But my problem is that i can't start up the phone. When booted, it just brings up a numberpad. I assume it's asking for a personal code, but it doesn't say anything (that must be a bug!), and there's nothing happening when entering a code and hitting OK. So it's hard to know what it really expects me to do...
I'll try to update the software using SEUS, if that's available for this phone model.

clear phone memory definately restores to factory default. i bought my phone on ebay so used that setting when i first got it. took about half an hour while it reset everything and completely re-installed all the software.
doesnt really help in this situation though. yes you can update via SEUS, the X2 is one of the first ones that come up on the sony update software. but if youve got the latest firmware update i dont think it will let you do anything. it will just say no newer update found and exit.
have you tried starting it with and without a simcard? daft question but is it unlocked? maybe you have wrong network simcard. that can sometimes bring up a keypad on some phones.
if its definately unlocked to any network did you try the standard lock codes?
i.e 1111 or 111111 or 1234 or 123456
I downloaded SEUS, and it let me update the phone even though it already had the latest firmware. Now everything works fine!

Hello everyone...
I am trying to do a hard reset on my phone, and I press the two soft keys (just to be sure, the ones shown in the Tilt manual on page 19):
http://www.wireless.att.com/support_static_files/manuals/ATT_Tilt.pdf
and I press the reset button on the bottom of the phone.
I then release the reset button. (whilst keeping my fingers firmly on the two soft buttons).
It just does a normal reset!!!
What am I doing wrong?
Never mind. I was fat fingering and had more than just the two soft keys pressed.
Doh!!!
Another way is to run Clear Storage from Settings.
Less acrobatic.

It's the only way I cant get mine to hard reset, I've been trying the other way after every new flash, but I give up after the 5th try.
so maybe my fat fingers are my problem too.
I turned the phone around and used my other hand.
To reset the phone, that is...
Can anyone help me out, I am trying to hard reset my phone, but what am I doing wrong?
My phone is turned on
I press volume down botton and enter round botton.
there after i press reset
I keep pressing the other 2 bottons
Still nothing happens, the phone restarts, but no hard reset!!!
I have 1.37 rom with unasigned hard spl. But I do not have any usb cable here at my work.
Help help help
Are you pressing and releasing the reset button? You need to hold it down until the device boots.
I had the same problem as well...couldnt get it to hard reset so i went through the settings list and did it through there.
Click on start, go to settings, then click on clear storage..choose clear storage and format internal storage...enter 1234 and then click on ok...when it asks to confirm press yes and once done it will then clear everything and reset the phone back to the way it was when you first got it.

Still isn't doing that...
Should I press volume down botton and enter botton when the phone is in windows?
Keep all three pressed down dont release the reset button ... It will go through , well did for me as I noticed it did the same thing to me. I only released once the screen had changed to the options for format
Or why not do the hard reset as i described earlier?? lol..much easier and dont have to worry about pressing 3 buttons at the same time

Ok well you do realise even with the way ive said to do it, you dont have to wipe your internal storage??..you have the options of clear storage only...format internal storage or clear storage and format internal storage.
If your going to do a hard reset with the way your trying to do it...you will lose all your info on your internal storage...so it doesnt make any difference does it??. Your still going to lose all your sensitive info doing it the way your trying to do it ie hold volume button down, press center button then press reset button and release the reset button whilst holding down the other 2 buttons.
Not sure whether this helps, but I also had the back of the device removed when I did a hard reset via the button method.
Sounds like Spawn's solution might suit you better though.
excuse me if im wrong as i dont own a diamond (waiting for the pro to decide) but doesnt the stylus have to be removed or something like that to hard reset. maybe thats the issue? I think i read that somewhere.
Again, not sure but try with the stylus in or out or something :S

That's certainly the case on the Diamond as the reset button is beneath the stylus.
I have the same problem. I'm using TruxT rom. Cannot perform a hard reset. I hold the Volume Down, Center, Press Reset with the stylus in my hard and hold it until the device reset but... no "hard reset screen". It's annoying.
I've installed the HTC Scrolling cab from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343313) and since that my touchscreen don't work at all. There's only the D-Pad and all the hardware buttons that work.
I've read that simply uninstall this app will fix the problem but theres another problem. When I connect my phone to my computer, I'm force to connect it as an "external drive" because it's the way it was connect last time I did it. I cannot change the setting to "Active sync" when "Connect to pc" window appears using the hardware buttons so I'm stuck with a huge headache now. lol
Is there a way to force ActiveSync to detect my phone when I plug it ? My goal is to uninstall this app using ActiveSync instead of performing a hard reset. Anyway, it seems I can't do it.
I messed around with the phone (ATT TILT with stocked ROM) tonight. After installed a 3rd party app and it booted itself (seemed like a normal procedure). However, it just hangs on the Windows logo screen and it never gets to the Today screen.
I tried to perform a hardreset by holding both soft-keys and hit the reset button; it just does not work.
I have tried more than 20 times and no luck.
I am not sure what to do about it. Would I be able to flash the fresh ROM (stocked) and bring the phone back to live?
thanks in advance.
If you device is not CID unlocked (i.e. no HardSPL) then you'll have to flash a carrier ROM. You should be able to do this from the Bootloaded screen. i.e. Hold Down Camera and Reset. Once at the tri-colour screen just run the RUU program.
Also, with hard reset the steps I take are: hold down left and right softkeys (above IE and messaging button) for a second or two and then press and hold reset with the stylus until the message appears. Then press Green to hard reset.

The hard reset is notoriously hard to do, especially with big fat (muscular ) fingers. I use two pencils or chop sticks. Make sure that both soft keys are held down at the same time firmly, then do the soft reset . If you do it right a white screen with a warning should pop up telling you to press send to proceed. If this window doesn't pop up let go regroup and try again.
It always takes me several times to get a good press on those soft keys.

It is the same, but in order to do a clear storage, you have to be able to access your settings menu, he cannot

Hi guys,
Great forum, unfortunately i can't find a solution for my problem. Here is my problem: I installed Diamond TF3D Config on my phone and i tweaked a couple of things, everything went well untill i changed the TouchFlow menus.
It automatically restarts, but the loading process can't pass the HTC logo screen and now it says:
" The Device is unable to boot because either you turned of the device incorrectly...----- Press SEND to reset your device..."
Well, ofcourse I followed the instructions and pressed SEND, but it looks like it doesn't do anything at all. The error screen above keeps displaying, without anything telling me that something is being done about the problem. Is it doing something or is it just stuck? (The light is continously on).
Can you guys help me? By the way I tried the manual hard reset, but that didn't help.
did you hard or just soft reset?
well i did a soft reset, that didn't work out keep getting that screen.
and I tried a hard reset but that wasn't possible, because i couldn't get in the device, so it pretended it was a soft reset..
but do you know if it is doing something or not , cause i get the screen continously with the lights on
PM the developer... sushilange... and then post the solution here for us all to take benefit of.
Not sure of your full situation, but two options that may help; hard reset, or connecting phone to pc and try running an RUU install; of course all data will be lost, device could be as well.
---- Hard Reset Option ----
To perform a hard reset:
1. Press and hold both softkeys on the device (the little dots above ok, and windows key). Keep these keys pressed, and at the same time, use the stylus to lightly press and hold the RESET button on the bottom of your device.
NOTE: I had no idea which of the many keys were considered the soft keys. They are the two buttons above the phone control buttons.
2. Release the stylus but keep the softkeys pressed when you see the following message on your device screen:
“Do you want to erase all user data and restore to manufacture default?”
3. Slide open the hardware keyboard, and press R to restore to factory default or press X to exit the hard reset process.
Note:
Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed
--- RUU install ROM --- (this is for the mogul, you'll have to find your own, just reading material)
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
k I will. And this guy has the necessary knowledge?
bjason6 , thanx for your help
but I don;t understand.
hardware keyboard, a diamond doesnt have a keyboard or do you mean something else and where are the two soft buttons i cant seem to find them
This is the proper way to hard reset the Diamond (taken from the wiki):
Switch the device off. Press and hold the "Volume Down Key" and "Action Button" (round button), at the same time, use the stylus to press the red RESET button in the stylus silo. You will be presented with a menu saying 'press R to reset, X to exit'. If you press R, your device will be set back to factory default settings.
Hard Reset will delete all data you have put on the device: Programs, Settings, Mail, SMS, MMS, etc., so be careful and make a backup before doing this.
After a hard reset, you will have a complete clean new install of Windows Mobile on your device.
I thought the phone must be on for the hard reset to work, because I doesnt work on y phone
and oh, the SEND button is just the phone button right? the one beneath the House-button?

Sail away ?
I screwed up the registry (one of the folders in HKLM got renamed), the phone rebooted by itself, and now it gets stuck at the "Touch Diamond" screen with the red text at the bottom.
The hard reset doesn't seem to be working for me (holding down vdown + enter, and hitting reset). The phone just reboots and gets stuck at the screen with the red text again.
I pulled the battery out for about 10 min, put it back in, and tried holding down vdown + enter while turning on the phone. Again, it gets stuck at the screen with the red text.
I can get the 3 colour screen to come up by holding down vdown + power + reset but I don't know what to do with it after.
I have the Telus Diamond. Hope someone can help!
I have read other posts from owners of the CDMA diamond, and the hard-reset button sequence is the same. Just make sure you hold down the VOL-DOWN and ACTION BUTTON (round center button) even after letting go of the reset button. That might be your problem...letting go of the buttons too early.

I hold them til I get stuck at the screen with the "Touch Diamond" and the red text at the bottom. I even tried holding it for awhile after that screen appears.
Hmmm...I guess there are others here that own the CDMA-version and can confirm the hard reset sequence is the same. But if you can get it into bootloader and then plug in the USB cable (with the "USB" indicator showing), then you should be able to flash a CDMA-specific ROM (possibly from Telus).
You can always use Clear Storage from the System tab in settings. It's quite the same, really!

Hi, what do you mean by bootloader?
If you mean the screen with the 3 colours I have been there. It says Serial on the bottom and if I plug in my USB it says USB.
good news!

Excellent! Using that combination of keys, I was able to get to the hard reset confirmation screen twice in two attempts, after failing miserably without the Power button! It's just the contortions required to get the Power button at the same time that's a challenge!

Alright!
Well glad I could be of some help, considering how much help the others in the fora have given me.

I e-mailed HTC tech support yesterday morning, and this was their reply:
===========================================
Thank you for your inquiry about the hard reset process for the Telus Diamond.
I understand that you had issues performing the hard reset with the Touch Diamond. The printed instructions are correct. Pressing reset is sometimes difficult with the Diamond model, but the Reset button simply powers the device off and back on. I recommend my customers remove the back cover to get better access to the Reset button. By holding Volume Down and Enter and powering on the device from an off state, it begins the hard reset process. When you use the Reset button, you simply ensure the device will turn off, then back on while holding the other keys.
We appreciate you letting us know about this issue.
===========================================
I e-mailed them back to tell them they were wrong (again). I also advised him that it's physically impossible to reset the device without taking the cover off, as he was apparently unaware of that, either. I'd like to see a video of one of their people trying to reset the phone using their instructions.
