Hello all,
I have a little problem that happens frequently.
I am in 3G coverage. Sometimes when I leave my device in standby mode (clicking on the power button to switch off the screen but not shut off the device) for some time and then I turn it on, I see 3G coverage for a very short period (about 5 seconds) and then it disappears and goes back to G.
Some other times 3G works normal.
Anybody have any ideas ?
Sounds like you just don't have a strong signal. You could try a different radio or there may be a firmware update from your provider. Check a coverage map for your carrier and see if you are supposed to have good 3G coverage where you are.
thanks for replying..
I think I will be upgrading my ROM in a couple of days.. I just need to read enough info..
I only got my Diamond last week..
thanks again

when i turn the screen off (pressing the sleep button or letting itself turn off after the required time) it wont wake up again and i have to take the battery out or do a hard reset. anyone know whats happening
are you pressing the power button or one of the others?
think it defaults to the power button unless you change it to any button

Has this issue been resolved? Seeing this happening more and more now. Without very consistency, I'm suspecting it happens more when you let it sleep with the wifi on and connected to a router.. or it can be the touchflo3d....
TF3D is a known culprit for this issue.
It has happened only on time to me (so far). I'm using the stock ROM with no TF3D. The time it happened i had the earphones and the charger plugged in. lol?
Ok, just happened to me for the 2nd time today.
NO:
Wifi
Bluetooth
In airplane mode (all radio off)
YES:
USB connected to my Mac
running SyncMate on Mac and driver on the X1
TouchFlo3D
Ok...
Just happened again when I was waiting for a important phone call...
YES:
Wifi to my router (Apple Airport)
Bluetooth on to my Sony stereo headset
Touchflo3D
Stock UK R1A ROM
NO:
Not connected to my Mac
I'm guessing it locked up 1-2 hr after the stock alarm woke me up, I turn it off and put the phone to sleep. Hard to believe its memory related as the phone was freshly soft-rest right before I went to sleep.
So something randomly happened or there was a massive memory leak with touchflo3d over night even in sleep mode!
I've to admit this is a unpopular thread.. am I the one of the only few having this problem reoccurring?
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
Hello,
I've tried searching for an answer on this, but no sucess until now.
My Diamond 2 turns on its screen when it looses and get radio signal back. That is a good feature but the annoying thing is if I enter in a lift with the cell phone in my pocket, it will loose signal, turn screen on and the contact with my pocket will give it "crazy" commands that will mess it up or even call someone.
Is there a way (maybe via Registry Editing) to force it to never turn on the screen unless I press the power button? At least, an option to do nothing in case of signal loss?
Thank you.
Robert
I've just done a few experiements and if I lose signal and it returns, nothing happens. However, perhaps it would help you if you get into the habit of locking your phone before you press power. To do this hold the home button down for a second or so. The phone will buzz and it'll be locked.
Thank you. That's what I will do whenever I put the phone in my pocket. It is still not the best solution, even because I use my D2 to receive emails from work so I am forced to type a password to unlock it after sliding to unlock.
I know there is a Registry key to auto lock, but I prefer doing that manually as you said.
Which ROM are you using? In both original HTC English and now TOM's 2.02.1 it always turn screen on when looses and get signal back.
Thanks.
I'm using the original HTC. I've tried it again, I go to a place where I know I'll lose signal, wait until it does, then press power off. I go back into signal and nothing happens on the device. Only when I press power on does it come back on and show that I have signal. If I do it the other way, press off before I go out of signal, then the behaviour is the same (though I have to just wait and assume signal has been lost, since I can't see it!). Is it perhaps that the phone is set to light up when it receives a certain bit of data (such as a push email), which it's more prone to getting when it comes back into signal? Incidentally, it's 'lose', not 'loose'
I get similar behaviour after setting the phone to stream internet radio and then turning it off and putting in my pocket. Sometimes, after signal loss, I get it out and notice it's turned on and random things have happened due to screen contact.
Funny thing is, I've tried locking the phone too, and exactly the same thing happens. what's the point of a phone lock if it doesn't (lock)!
I've not associated it with a particular event except signal loss. But, when it's not lost the signal, I don't take it out of my pocket, so perhaps it's happening other times without me noticing.
Anybody with an idea to completely lock the phone will be my hero.
And, whilst we're on the subject of annoying traits, is there a way to get rid of the wretched WM "cannot connect with current settings" dialogue which appears after a few failed attempts to reconnect to a 3G network? I find this *really* annoying when all it takes is a few more attempts...
Hi
When the signal is lost or regained the phone is triggered to turn on, but in "unattended" mode. The phone will be on and applications will run however unattended mode is just that, and so no user input is accepted and the screen is not turned on, and the owner will have no idea the phone has switched on. After a short period of time the phone will enter sleep again. In fact many times a day the phone will be turning on in unattended mode without you knowing for one reason or another.
The problem with the phone awaking fully is going to be due to an application or feature you are using. The application will start running when the phone enters unattended mode and is for some reason raising the power state to fully on, this is due to bad programming as it isn't suppose to do this unless it has an alert and needs to show the screen and wait for a response, even then it should give the option for this to be disabled.
Incidently a lot battery problems where the battery doesn't seem to last very long can be due to applications keeping the phone running in unattended mode, so while the phone looks off the processor is still on allowing applications to run, this very quickly drains the battery.
You need to find the application causing the problem then get in touch with the author.

Phil
Thanks for that, Phil. Understanding is the first step to sorting a problem out. I wasn't aware there was an "inbetween" state.
is it possible to keep 3G or EDGE on While On a phone call.....
I noticed it stays on for about 1min while ur on a call then the symbol just dissapears.
it stays on mine. i use a headset some times so if im on hold with customer care i usually go into the browser and it still works
It used to stay on when I first got my g1.... b4 cupcake came out... now it goes off
Hi guys. First of all, happy new year!
I dont really have any problem with my GN AT&T...except one.
Recently when i put my phone on sleep mode (just press power button once to turn screen off...not the phone itseld u know what i mean )
But the thing is during sleep mode, it seems my data get turned off, showing only signal bars on the right side. Then when i turn on the phone and unlock in the lock screen, after a few seconds, H+ shows up, activating data.
So i couldnt really get any data related things like fb notifications or kt msgs.
But more weirdly, data was continuously operational for the first few days even during sleep mode and past three four days its been like this.
Your inputs on this greatlyappreciated. Fast dormancy is off btw.

Hello.
SM-9500, 128GB, Snapdragon.
Three bugs:
1. Whatsapp Web constantly loses the phone. It helps if I go to the app on your phone. At the same time, the Internet is always available, with Telegram there is no problem in this regard. On Wi-Fi everything ok.
2. Communication (cellular network signal) is lost periodically. The phone shows the full scale of reception of the cellular network, the display is unlocked, but at the same time it is impossible to get call. After a while, sms come up about missed calls. Even Sim has changed - does not help.
3. The saddest thing. The phone freezing periodically. Once or twice a week. The first two times were at night, when standing on the charge. Once on the display, the Olways On Display picture was displayed (but did not move as in normal mode) and the charging indicator was on.
The second time the display was completely turned off, but the notification light was flashing.
For the third time, both the screen and the indicator were turned off and the phone was not on charge.
In all three cases, the phone did not react to any buttons, only the power + vol download buttons helped (it's strange that it's not just the power button).
Did anyone have something similar?
I do not want to do the reset and even more to carry in the service (it's not clear how to repeat last bug).
P.S. Sorry for my English.
My wife's Note 8 periodically loses LTE signal, and sticks to 3G. USA T Mobile version.

I understood the problem - it's switching the phone to 4G + mode.
when the phone is in standby mode, it is switched to 4G.
At the same time, it is impossible to receive a call or SMS, whatsapp does not work.
If I turn on the screen and open, for example, the browser, then the switch back to 4G + and the problem disappears (whatsapp works, calls and sms arrive).
This is confirmed by the fact that if I turn on the network mode only 3G / 2G, then there is no problem.
How can I turn off the transition to 4G + / 4G?
Or maybe I can somehow get the phone to correctly switch between 4G and 4G +?
