Couple of concerns - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While I'm purchasing the Nexus One regardless of what people say here. I am curious as to whether these issues have been resolved since the device launched.
I remember there being issues with the touch sensitive buttons on the front for menu, home, search, and back... the issue was having to press higher near the screen and actually hitting the button itself didn't work or didn't work well or consistently. Is this still the case on new devices?
3G reception. I know there were some issues with 3G reception as well initially. It sounds like some OTA updates were sent out. Any real concerns here?
I've already read and confirmed that the device has a crappy touch sensor and can become highly confused in multi-touch scenarios... i'm sure this one will drive me nuts after having an iPhone for 3 years.. suppose I'll live.

nexus one question

I'm considering buying a n1 because my g1 just broke and t mobile doesnt offer any good phones except the n1.
I heard the first batch of phones the buttons were sometimes unresponsive are the new phones fixed?
What about the multi touch when crossing the axis was that fixed?
and how bad is the 3g problems that people seem to have is it a big issue or only happening in some phones?
T-Mobile has plenty of alternative smart phone choices, and the Nexus isn't even sold by T-Mobile.
The buttons were called unresponsive because that was before some people used the phone enough to realize that the touch responsive area is just slightly above where the symbol is, others were referring to the glitch that sometimes happens where the screen is unresponsive or touches registered somewhere other than where you tapped the screen.
The multiouch problem comes from a problem that the clearpad2000 has, and exists for all Nexus Ones. This is most likely not going to be fixed in future models.
The 3G issue is more prevalent in some radio versions than others, and more in some areas than others. Some report that the problem can be fixed with an update while for others the problem persists.
I know its not sold by tmobile but it can be used on tmobile which is what i have. And to me I think other companies are getting android phones while t mobile is getting mytouches.
But the only thing having me 2nd guessing is the 3g issue. other than that I heard its a good phone.
Just be prepared to return it if you have any problems. I love my nexus and have no issues, 3g is rock solid and I'm on a fringe area of coverage. But I use ATT. Majority of complaints seem to come from t-mobile versions.

The N5 has let me down

Last weekend I went on a bit of a trip visiting 2 cities and was expecting to use the N5 as GPS (navigating trough the cities), camera and media player. I am sorry to report that it failed miserably..
First was the camera : all was well until i got the "cannot connect to camera" dialog and had to reset the phone missing the moment to be captured. If it were a one time event I could have over looked it but it happened about 5 times in 3 days. I didn't use HDR or other camera apps, just the stock camera taking normal photos/videos.
Secondly, (related to the camera) the mm-qcamera daemon drained my battery like crazy so i was always charging the phone and took a survival attitude towards it (2g, no data, no wifi, minimum brightness) negating it's smartphone capabilities as much as possible.
Lastly, and most infuriating, the GPS just didn't work. I had an internet connection (chrome and facebook worked just fine) but it just wouldn't load the map nevermind driving/walking directions.
To top all this, my friends Galaxy Ysomething with gingerbread performed flawlessly all of the above. Needless to say that after this none of the group will ever consider a N5 as their phone.
Sorry for the vent/rant but it can't be all roses..

the camera hogging battery has been confirmed by google and will be fixed in the next update
i have no issues with GPS or the camera and I take about 5-20 pictures every day. maybe you can try using a custom rom or maybe you have a defective unit. i would contact google for a return if you are able to
Just flash a custom rom. Bet all your issues are gone.

considering i have never experienced the camera issue once since me and my wife have owned the phone, his experience is a isolated one.
1 of 2 things happened to cause his issue:
1) hardware failure, which is beyond anyone's control
2) he modded his phone and broke something, which can be fixed by going back to stock (or should be anyways)
I would return it in a heartbeat! That is unacceptable for any device and those are each large enough issues to cause concern. I have been an android fan since I first held one some years ago. Every effort towards modding in the past has been to attain a pure stock, nexus-like experience. I purchased to N5 to stop chasing that dragon and honestly...it has been somewhat disappointing. Constant drain from com.chrome.sanbox, camera daemon running constantly and horrible audio. I have rooted and flashed away many things, but always at the expense of stability or another feature that I favored. Google needs to get their sh1t together. This is a great device, no doubt, but there are too many little problems that en up adding to a major PIA considering that this phone comes straight from the folks who makes the OS that we all love. I understand your frustrations OP, that is unacceptable. I would return it, like others have stated. That's too crap going wrong on a singular trip to be considered just a glitch. I love my N5, but it is ridiculous to overlook glaring flaws simply because it's a Nexus.
GPS should work very great though. I drain maybe 10 percent in an hour with it running, and it locks in less than a second for me...

What a coincidence that his camera, battery drain and GPS issue occur all around the same time. You maybe right about the software issue but I was replying with the assumption that the OP is running stock..so my bad. However, I've got a bad GPS reception, it barely connects and I've tried on both stock and custom kernels. I can't RMA or service it through warranty since I got it from abroad.
well, I've had my Nexus 5 for a few months, and I use it constantly. The camera has never given me a single issue, and neither has the GPS. I use the GPS quite frequently, as I recently moved to a new province, and don't know the area.
I've also used my Nexus 5 while traveling(between Alberta, Canada and Nova Scotia, Canada with many stopovers in between) and not one issue.
I can't speak for stock, as I flashed CM11 the moment I got my phone, but I use what's listed in my signature. I highly recommend those. A few times, there's been issues with the Chaos kernel, but not for several months now.
I'd definitely say give custom roms a try. But if that doesn't fix it, revert to stock and return the phone right away if possible.
I found the phone simply excellent when I was traveling around London, GPS camera and battery all good.

I also had the exact same problems with battery and camera on my tablet and phone untill I uninstalled Skype.

Never had problems with gps though.
Unable to RMA it since a friend of a friend bought it for me from Germany (I am from Romania). I just uninstalled Skype and will keep an eye on the camera. For the GPS problem I have no clue since not even network location is working in maps... I have weather apps and they figure my location just fine.
I am running stock unlocked with twrp. I will try out some roms eventually..
Will my local lg vendor be able to do something about a defective phone ?
Edit : back home (i was out during my last reply) maps is working perfectly (even without GPS, after data clear and force stop, wifi off). It's like the phone is shy of new places...

This should be were greenify helps. Any apps that suck battery, mess up other apps or abuse the memory can be hibernated, and only woken when we want to use them.

The last time I saw the "cannot connect to camera" message was on my Xperia Play, which had a faulty connection with the front facing camera. I've never once seen it on my Nexus 5. That one definitely points to a faulty unit.
Camera battery drain, apparently this is a known issue, although I personally haven't experienced any issues.
GPS issues...I don't ever 100% rely on any GPS device..way too much room for error. That said, I used the GPS on my N5 last week to pinpoint my location on the map to help me find the house I was delivering to. Worked as smoothly as it could. Maps was open, I turned on GPS, boom, the blue dot told me where I was, good times were had by all.

I agree. While I understand their frustrations, it is pretty dumb to say that no one in the group will ever buy a Nexus 5 because of one phone had issues. Umm, ok? Does any phone from any manufacturer have a 100% fault free track record? I'll save you the google, the answer is no.
I also have n5 since it was released, rooted and on stock with latest updates since 3/18/2014. I had note 2 before and I gotta say I miss it. For 2 main reasons, multi function and battery. I think I will sell this with next note release. Yes you get latest updates but when you are rooted I'd rather not have the latest updates.

The battery drain comes from a very real bug concerning how Skype interfaces with your device's camera. Google has even come out and said it's a major problem (after doing their own internal stress test and finding it to be a real bug). Don't let anyone fool you into thinking that specific part (the GPS and Camera malfunction, I cannot speak to) is just your device. People with stock Android and people on custom ROMs have also been experiencing it. I run Carbon and it still happens to me. That's why I keep Skype frozen or Greenified (a better solution) unless I need it. Of course, that's a pretty bad workaround, especially if you pay for Skype calling or need to be online for messaging.
I hope it works out for you. Also, I can't quite claim to know for sure, but the warranty is not tied to the original purchaser, it's tied to the serial number on the device. My brother purchased two Nexus 5s (to ensure we both got one) and before I could do my first RMA, I had to ask them to swap the Google account over to my Google account.
That was it. I don't know how the warranty system works in Romania or Germany, but don't rule it out yet!
EDIT: To follow up with the warranty process, it should not matter what country you are currently in, the warranty will follow the laws set down by the country of purchase. If you do need to do an RMA, they will ship you a new one (overnight if needed) and ask that you ship them back the old phone within x number of days or else you'll be charged full retail.
If you have questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask. Everyone deserves to have a great phone.
Will look into RMA-ing it since i have a first batch (ordered 2 weeks after launch) and some complain of poor audio on their side.. The problem is that i cannot access the device playstore from my country..

The camera issue could be caused by insufficient ram at the time of operation. U sound like u wanted to do a lot of things with it on ur trip, it could've possibly ran out of ram at the time and thus couldn't load the camera. I had the exact same problem with my galaxy s3, clearing apps with an app manager fixed the problem (I used system panel). However the n5 handles ram extremely well, never have I once been Over 1.2gb used and I use it vigorously with no ram or task manager app. Kit Kat is just awesome.

Just posting to see if any of our QUALCOMM variants are experiencing what the International versions are. Mine is working amazingly well no sign of an issue yet. Anyone else facing anything like what's going on with the exynos? I'm optimistic yet cautious about ours.

First off no need to be rude. Second I'm not sure why you care so much about a question I asked must be keeping you up at night so I apologize for that...... I was talking about the using the phone for a few days and it becoming a brick like several international versions are experiencing. But thanks for showing me how rude everyone can be at 8:50am...
Probably quiet few people on t-mo forum don't frequent international forum, myself included, so may not be aware of specific issues there, so lets all come down and have intelligent conversation, since IMO OP question is legit as long as it is properly explained. Sooo, as far as I know there were few complains about lagging, poor battery life and couple QC issues , which BTW none of them I experienced. Personally I have not seen any brick post on this forum, which is strange since we already have root and there is plenty of people who can't follow simple directions, sometimes myself included. Anyway I wouldn't worry too much, phone is on warranty and there will always be some quality control issues. Are you sure those are not user related, like trying to root without a clue, or taking underwater photography on your scuba dive? People don't always tell whole story. If you don't have N7 yet, wait until dust clears, if you do, just enjoy it, life's too short.

It appears that the problem starts after the first OTA update samsung released from what I have read. I hope if Tmobile releases it, it will be a later build if infact the software is too blame. I'm usually first to update but I may play it safe and wait a day or so when it's released to us. And in regards to the user error in regards to the problem. The phone apparently will start to freeze and reboot and then get stuck in reboot cycles and when you attempt a factory reset in the OS or recovery the phone becomes unusable. Samsung isn't sure of its hardware or software yet. That's why I'm optimistic but cautious about ours.
Good to know, if that's the case we could postpone updates and see if any problems are reported. It wouldn't be first time updates create more problems than fixes. Few yrs ago I updated my Asus computer BIOS, despite reading other people having problem (I assumed user errors). It took me 1 week and $20 hardware just to boot up, never mind countless hours of Google search, the BIOS was completely hosed on certain hardware, which I happened to have. Never bricked the phone with updates yet, but more often than not, stuff stops working the way it should, so waiting few days may be best option. Love the phone, would hate to loose it even for few days.
Well samsung had stopped shipping the note 7 due to them needing more "quality control testing" havent said why yet or what markets they are delayed in.
The article I read said Samsung stops shipping in Korea, no official reason given, except better QC, so everything else could be speculation which for now seems to point to battery as culprit. My phone gets pretty hot, when on fast charge, so I disabled it for now. But I'm thinking if the connection is not perfect, it could cause problems. I think the phone is charging at something over 10 Watts, my soldering iron is 30W.
i've been very happy with my note 7 so far. i luckily havent come across any of the issues some other ppl in this forum have. i did read about the international note 7 bricking randomly and not being able to factory restore it. but there havent been any reports of the qualcomm version doing that. so the exynos is faster and less lag but there's a chance of a random brick and the qualcomm doesnt brick but many complaints about ui lag. seems samsung hasnt been able to get either right so far. it's definitely a QC issue because it's random units these things are happening to. every manufacturing process has some QC issues come up but they want to keep that below a certain percentage. this seems to be above that percentage.

Well i have 7 days to exchange in store before I need one shipped so I'm hopeful it will last haha. On the topic of lag I don't notice alot in fact I think it does alot of things faster then my s7 edge for example when I start up I can enter my pin right away my s7 edge didn't even register a keypress for quite a few seconds after it popped up. This I can get into the phone in no time.

Running hot for no reason
Poor battery life
UI lag
Poor touch screen sensitivity - 1 in 5 key presses when typing is lost and other various touch recognition drop outs
If it's running hot, very possible some software crashed and its looping. First thing I would do is restart, then check battery screen to see what using it the most, maybe download something like 3C toolbox for better picture. Just make sure you're not in some particular spot where reception is spotty and it constantly goes in and out of network or keep switching towers.
Well though it doesn't sound like ours will be part of it I just read that Samsung will be recalling the note 7 in several markets due to a faulty battery used during manufacturing. If the battery was the issue, it would be so much simpler on the older, non sealed models like S5, which was water proof and had easy battery access. All would they had to do is mail new batt. to customers. Maybe some good comes out of this, like easy to open back in the future.
The only issue i have had is with users stating there are issues. Out of all the Samsung phones i have had 10 plus this is by far the best.
Now appears that the recall will be global. And samsung is in talks with the carriers on how to go about returning and exchanging phones already sold. Never had to deal with a phone recall before.

I have had all of those issues on top of no signal for long periods and I just got the phone yesterday. I have had every Note except the 4 with none of these issues. Pretty disappointed.

I hate to but I'm giving up on this phone

The M20P is a great phone in many ways but I'm throwing in the towel. At this point I really wish I had held onto my P20P.
I can't trust this phone as a daily driver because of intermittent issues where phone calls go straight into voicemail without the phone ever ringing. It's not like I'm missing the calls because multiple people have reported that when they called it went straight to voicemail with no ringing.
There was some theorizing in a separate thread that the issue might be due to a compatibility issue with the T-Mobile network here in the United States (where the M20P isn't officially sold or supported) but I have found owners in other countries complaining about the same problem .
I've tried numerous fixes from experimenting with the APN and network settings, turning off raise to wake and voice answering settings, using performance mode, using Shortcut Maker to disable the hidden Wi-Fi calls menu, turning off power optomization for all apps, giving call related apps unlimited data access, disabling Power Genie with ADB--and every time it seems like the problem might be fixed it eventually happens again.
I previously owned both the M10P and P20P and never ran across the issue on either phone. I'm not sure if this is happening because of MIUI 9 or the way Huawei is implementing Android Pie or if it is only specific to this model but as much as I like the M20P I can't use it as my daily driver if I can't trust it to ring every time I receive a call.
I'm not a fan of Samsung phones, One Plus or Google Pixels so I'm looking at probably getting a Xiaomi MI 9 and relegating this to the back up phone status currently occupied by my Mix 2S.
Maybe the problem will get fixed in the 9.1 update but I can't keep missing calls.

I do also Miss calls. And I can't get Google voice to work, and use it for voicemail. So sometimes I don't even get notification of new voicemail too. Same here, T-Mobile US. I'm thinking of trading up, but really waiting for the upcoming 5g phones.
For me, it's not a deal breaker. But an inconvenience. Might trade my son-in-law for his 6t.
I hate to do it. Because everything about the performance is great. I love the camera...... Ugh.

Afaik, this has never happened to me or anyone I know with the M20P. But we also weren't affected by the infamous iPhone Death Grip here in Sweden, probably because our mobile networks are decently stable.
No issues here on Rogers in Canada. Sorry to hear that.
That's also a deal breaker for me. If it can't make and receive phone calls, she's gotta go.

Must be related to the network not the phone...either the band it's on in your area, or the communication with the tower.
While most of us in countries where the phone is sold have problems with notifications (EMUI 9.1....I hope that will solve them...) I NEVER missed a call. And my provider (Videotron) has agreements with 3 more for coverage, so I jump a lot between bands and carriers when I travel.
Considering you have no recourse in US, I would just give up and get something more mainstream. 6T might be good idea.
I can make phone calls and 95% of the time I receive them fine. But the other 5% is driving me crazy ?.
The other day I had to call Amazon customer service The website said the call was connected but my phone never rang. I canceled the call and clicked for them to call me back and the same thing happened twice more-the Amazon website said the call was currently connected but my phone never rang, there's nothing in the call history and no voicemail notification.
I reboot my phone and there's suddenly 3 missed calls and a voice mail notification and when I click for Amazon to call me again the phone rings immediately.
I hadn't missed a call for weeks before that.
Maybe I shouldn't have screwed around with manually flashing updates. It was never a problem with the M10P or P20P but since the updates for this phone aren't locked to the specific hardware version it's not the same as before and the phone always shows up as uncertified which never happened on the other phones.

You should try a factory reset as a last resort first
what firmware version are you on? M2p here in the states and have had zero problems here
I was on one of the versions with the April security patch. I did a factory reset and e-recovery to the latest approved version for my model which is 210 with the March security patch but it didn't make any difference. I haven't had any calls yet to miss but I couldn't get text messages to set up my Amazon and Chase apps until after rebooting the phone which is a different symptom of the same issue. I was sending and receiving texts earlier this morning with no issues. I had to reboot about 4 hours later.
I have the LYA-L09 version from the UK. I don't think It should make a difference but maybe the international or Canadian versions would work better with T-Mobile in the US. Band support isn't an issue but Huawei did something new with this phone where the custom partition (which contains carrier and region specific software) is separate from the rest of the firmware which is why the same firmware versions can be manually flashed across all non-Chinese models.
The new custom partition might be causing issues with missed calls and notifications that some people like me are experiencing.
On earlier Huawei phones removing specific apps from battery optimization was enough to ensure that notifications from those apps were delivered quickly but a really common complaint with many M20P owners is that doing that no longer works. Some people don't get any notifications from certain apps unless the display is on and others need to reboot their phones when they suspect they have missed notifications--especially from SMS.
I didn't come across this missing calls issue but there is a bunch of other annoyances that putting me off this phone. To start with, it disappointed me straight away from day one due to simple, unexpected reason - inability to unlocked it at first-second-third attempt with in-screen fingerprint sensor. It was like a sobering slap to the face. Believe me or not but this fancy feature was one of the buying point. Seriously, that fingerprint reader seems works only at the time of first set up . Next day during the phone normal use with clean screen with no screen protector the most common scenario - unlocked with face recognition after 4 failed fingerprint attempt. Seriously, the first "date" with this beautiful phone was ruined straight away!! Further - more "minor" issues like tons of accidental screenshots in my gallery due to improper buttons position, inferior sound from the speakers (coming from Pixel 3) - acceptable at max volume only for me, useless AOD, inability to wake up the phone with double tap, no notifications issue (due to too long (!) operator name as I figured out later), no Google Feed out-of-the-box for my region, poor tactile engine (still can't feel that it's even here compared to iPhones or Pixel 3), camera inconsistency (too many out of focus, blurry shots, bad selfies, poor low light video).... Basically the only things forced to keep me this phone are great battery life, versatile camera, cool unique back design. I understand that there is no perfect phone for sure BUT there are far too many negative bullet points for this one considering the price I paid for it. Frankly, it is certainly not a over $1000 phone at all. If I was aware of all above-mentioned issues, I would't pay more than $500 for it. Sure I have got some quite stunning shots from it BUT everything else must be up for the price as well! So I gave up and put it on sale as well. Sorry Huawei, try harder next time.

I've never had any of those problems although the AOD display does seem to bug some people who are used to what Samsung or Apple does with it.
I think the Pixels are among the worst phones on the market. They easily list for twice what they are worth, have worst build quality than a $200 Xiaomi phone, run too hot, suffer serious hardware failure within 2 years in staggering numbers and every generation of Pixel devices to date has had significant hardware and software problems that the tech press ignores.
I really like this phone a lot. The build quality is fantastic. It takes great pictures and everything runs smooth and fast without the phone ever running hot (unlike Google phones which have been running in performance mode by default since the Nexus 5X). Battery life is great. My LG display (you know--the one that was supposedly defective?) is gorgeous.
But I can't deal with the missed calls anymore. I'm sure it could be fixed with a software update but after 6 months I'm not confident that a fix is ever going to come.

Hi there. I believe you never owned the Pixel 3 or 3 XL! Because you certainly don't know what are you talking about. The only thing those phones are missing is versatile camera system. That's it. Otherwise Pixel 3s are the best smartphones around. I had Pixel 3 XL for 4 month, still own a Pixel 3 as a business / backup phone. No single hardware or software issue with them whatsoever. Build quality is top tier. No heating issues with my small Pixel 3 for sure whereas my buggy Mate 20 Pro becomes hot as hell after just half an hour driving with GPS app running. Pixel 3 stays cool at the same conditions! You seriously need to get Pixel 3 first and start talking afterwards!
So.... I too have abandoned the phone. I love it. It was a beast with battery and camera and speed. But.... missing calls has cost me a vacation that my timeshare had called and I didn't get the trade for the time. And timeshares can be finnickey to get a trade for the area/time you want.
Anyway. I ended up trading to my son-in-law for the oneplus 6t since its sold by Tmobile and should have any missed calls. He got a hell of a phone for the trade. Oh well.....

I have owned Nexus and Pixel phones. I definitely know what I am talking about. The Nexus devices had much more premium build quality than the Pixel line and the phones were much cheaper.
Just go to the Official Google Pixel Support site and read the posts from the many owners experiencing serious issues with their phones. That's pretty much the only place people can find accurate information about Pixel phones because the tech press holds Google to a much lower standard than it does Samsung, Apple, Huawei, or Xiaomi. The only company that gets a similar treatment to Google is One Plus. The official One Plus support site has so many reports of issues everyday that after a couple hours all of the posts that had been visible are completely buried under the tidal wave of new posts.
The difference is that the majority of issues One Plus owners report are software related because the coding on One Plus phones is inept and the majority of reported Pixel problems are hardware related.

I am not a fan of One Plus but I'm sure you won't have an issue with missed calls. If you have a T-Mobile One Plus instead of an unlocked one you get far less frequent updates because T-Mobile is trying not to release Oxygen updates that introduce new bugs. I don't think T-Mobile knew what they were getting into before they decided to carry those phones.
I got my MI 9. It's not as nice as the M20P obviously but it's a good value which is what Xiaomi is known for. I'm also getting all my calls, texts and notifications with zero problems and VoLTE works.

Looks to me you're the only one who doesn't know what he's talking about...plus you might wanna try to be more considerate when you post here. No need for personal baseless attacks.
Pixel 3 is an outdated phone with an excellent camera app and timely updates. That's ALL. Had one, ditched it for the Mate 20 pro (in before the personal attack that "you don't know what you're talking about").
I can also ask you how did you get your Mate 20 pro to become "hot as hell after just a half an hour driving with GPS app running". I took 4-5 hour trips with GPS on, the only slight warm area was the wireless charging one, as the phone sat in a holder with wireless charging.
Not sure what point you are trying to prove (if any) but you haven't convinced anyone.

Hi! Anyone had a good experience with this phone? In most cases, after a month screen problems start. It's hard to find people who provide positive feedback, I only read that one person after 5 months still keeps his phone in good condition. Can anyone provide their experience?

Makes sense!
Had absolutely no issues with the screen. Love it and been using since August 2020. Definitely not worth the original price tag, but anything in the $300-$400 range makes this a great phone.
#4 replacement works like a charm, but I retired it after I got One Ace
I'm also on the 4th Edge since October. Finally got one made recently, and it seems the screen is fine on this one. I checked for green tint and haven't seen any, keeping my fingers crossed.
This phone is very good, especially now that custom ROMs exist. They let the phone use double tap to wake, which is a must for me.
Loving my Edge so far, espicially as I got new from Lenovo in the UK for only $275 US. No issues with the screen so far.
I keep it for the amoled display and speed. With LineageOS on it I don't get the fancy side lights, nor the edge button that allows to resize apps as needed, but, that's a small trade off for better privacy. It's fine, it's a device that works as intended. I wouldn't be too unhappy if I had to use the G Power I also have as a daily driver, though.
