I know you don't have to wipe to upgrade to a CM nightly, but should I get Google Apps again when prompted to in ClockworkMod?

If it's the same version that you already have, then there's no point...
If it's a newer version, then go for it...
Latest version can usually be found here:

Thanks a lot. I need my flashing fix so I'm going to start doing nightlies. I just can't wait for final.

Flashed it without the GAPPS and upon rebooting they weren't there. I just downloaded them from the link, flashed, and now I'm setting them up. I guess it deletes all of your login info. No biggie, easy stuff.
Sorry, if you're doing a full wipe, then you will need to reflash the gapps. I seldom wipe on the nightlies...

Oh no I didn't wipe, that's why I thought it was strange. No biggie.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
its a RM shortcoming.. you have to select gapps at that prompt or reboot into recover and manually flash just the ROM.. otherwise your gapps dont survive
Got it!

I was looking at the Cyanogen site, and few people have been commenting on some of the latest nightlies removing the gapps (presumably overwriting the whole system folder).
No biggie, and not a common occurrence...

hi, im some what new to this and im having some problems with wcm on mytouch 4g... well had the phone working great and i when to try out a new rom called synergy-rc1 i booted in to recovery then wipe data/ factory reset then wiped cache partition and also wipe Dalvik cache then installed from sc card like before everything was going great then restarted the phone after it completed the install and it booted into the synergy rom screen then it sat there for about 10min and it restarted again and it keaps looping over. restarted in to recovery (cwm ) and tried to do a a factery reset and clear cache and this is what i got and i cant even do a restore.
clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.0
checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
restoring boot image...
restoring system...
Error while formatting /system!
any help would be appreciated [email protected]
probably a corrupt sd partition.
cwm is known top do that..
try formatting your sd card after saving the content to your pc first.
after format move stuffs back
I would go ask this question in the mytouch 4G section you will probably get better answers.
I recently updated to the latest Sprint release in order to get the new radio and PRL. I re-rooted using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804296&highlight=root . Ever since then, I been unable to wipe cache and dalvik in the recovery menu. It says it's done wiping, but nothing happens. I also been having trouble restoring nandroids, it would be stuck at the white HTC screen and I have to pull the battery and try again.
Anyone having this problem?
Try reflashing your recovery and are you using Firerats mod by chance????

I've tried re-flashing with no change, and yes I'm using Firerats.
I think I'm having this problem as well... maybe. When I try to nandroid restore, I have to go through the Google account setup and when I skip it my launcher crashes...
I've had 1.7 for a long time, and I don't think I have any problems with it.... Oddly though, you say the recovery "says it's done wiping" and nothing happens, what the heck is supposed to happen? and what specifically makes you think it is not wiping? I now am curious if I have the same issue. My nandroids do seem to always work, whether creating one or restoring one...
When wiping cache, it will free up some internal memory. When wiping dalvik, it will take longer to boot, around 10 minutes. This no longer happens.

For the Dalvik, you can be absolutely sure by wiping Dalvik, connecting phone to usb, and in command prompt type
adb logcat
If you see a lot of lines saying DexOpt then that means Dalvik was indeed wiped.

is is then safe to assume if I logcat using the catlog app I have after a dalvik wipe it would show the same output? I can't connect to a comp at work

Sorry, I should have been more thorough. You should see a lot of DexOpt lines during the subsequent boot process, not during the actual Dalvik wipe in recovery. Just to be sure, is that what you meant?

I ran adb logcat after the phone booted. Anyway, I just switched back to Clockwork recovery which wipes properly, RA 1.62 also wipes properly. I don't know why 1.7 stopped working for me.

Well, 1.7 doesn't wipe properly for me either anymore.... weird - I wonder what broke it, because it seems it is not an isolated occurance... I dislike clockwork so I will try out 1.6.2. I wonder if this is why people in the GB thread who use 1.7 have been having issues getting the rom to work/bootloops... I bet it is. I will test 1.6.2 and see if I can flash GB without loops and post over there. And to pmgrands, yes there is that app which I've had for a while and it's nice when you don't want to go into recovery. BTW you can also wipe the dalvik cache using titanium backup, and you can wipe data/factory reset using the system settings menu, but it's way easier to do it all in one place(recovery), especially when you are about to flash something, but thanks for heads up for those who didn't already know about it.

no ext, no MTD, have tried recovery v2.0.0.5 / v3 / v4
Used to flash often without a problem, until some day all roms suddenly fail.
to make sure all data/cache are cleared, all wipe (4 totally) and all format (but sdcard/ext) are done. still i wouldn't work. only asop v0.9.9.2 will do.
could anyone tell me why?

At least the only rom you can flash is arguably the best ROM over made for the heroc. Could be worse.

it just stopped at the white screen with HTC logo
i believe i've waited long enough to make sure it's not working.
and there wasn't any error reported while flashing.
Could it be SDcard problem?
I think you're not wiping good enough. Flash caulkins format all then wipe EVERYTHING manually except SD card but NOT excluding sd-ext. Then go to advanced (assuming you're on cw) and wipe dalvik. Then flash caulkins format all one more time. Flash the rom and report back. I'm sure it will work

Try Exactly what the ABOVE post suggested, and Report back!

don't know what your "caulkins" means.
i use cw recovery
4wipe(data/cache/dalvik/battery) + 4format(boot/cache/data/system)
I don't perceive any other wipe/system options.
anyway thanks for reply

Caulkins is a zip that formats the boot, data, system, and cache in one step. It can be.found in the first post of the wildheroc Rom thread.
But your doing what it does already, it just makes it faster really. Still worth a try tho
Also, I remember when people used to have problems flashing stuff, a wipe of the SD card helped. Just back everything up on your computer the wipe it with everything else.
I don't know if they ever figured out why it worked, just that sometimes a bad file get on the card and wont let it boot. Just another suggestion to try.

I had that issue when i was still learning. You accidentally deleted something within the phones framework.
Wipe your phone and reflash a 3 part file ROM. If i were you go get the JVS or the JVT one. Also, delete the dalvik from CWM.
try to format cache and dalvic cache
my rom is jvr.
how to format dalvik cache?
actually even before i deleted dalvik cache, im having problems already with my fone

go to cwm recovery by holding vol up+home+power button.
goto advanced->wipe dalvik cache.
nothing will happen on my other apps if i do that?
try the answer on this.
this will be the best solution on your problem by flashing the a stock GB.

Best is to reflash since I don't have much information to salvage from your configuration.
If you're using Supersonic or a ROM that disables journaling, you'll get FCs if you encounter a power loss. That's normal. The solution is to reflash anyways.
There is nothing wrong with your phone. there is something wrong with your searching skills.
ALL rom's JVR, JVS have FC on the Phone.apk.
IF you'd be able to change your pampers by yourself, you'd use SEARCH feature to find it:
Simple, isn;t it? and flash
Someone has to teach me. I'm not technical when it comes to roms and flashing. I just do what I am told to do

1. Download correct version from above link.
2. Put it on your SD card
3. Reboot your phone to recovery mode
4. Install via option: install update from zip, navigating to the downloaded zip file.
5. Reboot
6. Check if helped and give feedback.

Wipe cache and dalvik cache and re flash the ROM. If it still does the same you will have to wipe your data, cache and dalvik cache and perform a clean install.
But I can't find any new version of PA..
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ParanoidAndroid v0.4 using XDA Premium xD
Thanks for your reply. I already tried the first; wipe cache + dalvik cache. Now I'm indeed going to try the same and reflash the PA ROM + gapps... This is so weird, because before I went to v0.4a (yeah, OP was wrong version sorry) I already performed a clean install (Odin: GB LC1, which is wipe version > Mobile Odin: CF-root LC1 > CWMR: wipe data + jBroid kernel cleaning > CWMR: flash PA v0.4a + gapps).
Still experiencing the FC's ! Now I will have to try to clean install again, later. Starting to worry if somethings wrong with my Note..
Try dpis that are more stable, 160, 180, 200, 213, 220, 240 etc
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for your suggestion! However, since PA came out I'm only and still on Stock Tablet mode (213 dpi) and I run some apps on Stock Phone mode (320 dpi), other values I've never tried...
Oknow thats eliminated, how did you go to paranoid rom? Might something in your upgrade procedure.
If you dont mind data and setting loss, I think its safe kernel. Put zipfile of paranoid on external card, take the externel card out, then go recovery wipe everything. In mounts format system, data. Thrn put external sdcard back in and install.
That should fix everything.
Just to be carefull backup efs first and check th emmc brickbug app out first, the one that scans your partition for corrupt data its in the fourth section of n7000 xda forum
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
In mu 2nd post there's an explanation of my trail to PA v0.4a.
But I don't mind data and setting loss, I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks.
Luckily I already got a backup of my EFS partition; and right now I'm going to check what this brickbug app's got for me. I'll report the outcome before taking above steps. Again thanks for your help with this.
EDIT: So, the app showed me that I have the Insane chip and congratulated me after 337s with a passed test. Are these good results?
Did you wipe?
Not yet, tomorrow I'm going to try what baz77 said earlier, to wipe everything via recovery.
Did u use titanium backup to restore if yes dont restore system apps thats what i experienced before just use for user apps
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
No, I didn't use Titanium Backup to restore any apps...
Meanwhile I have wiped my phone (wipe data/factory reset + format system) and installed PA v0.4a again. Atm all my apps are being restored by my Google account. After this I'm going to configure everything again, hope there aren't FC's anymore! I'll let you guys know.
I think it worked... hope the FC's stay away now! Thanks guys.
