[Q] {Q) Sim Problems - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was one of the lucky ATT users to get an unlock code from ATT. The phone works perfectly with a US Tmo sim card. However, the problem began when i started putting in other sim cards. When i put in a Cellcom (u)sim card (Israel)i got a message "com.android.phone has stopped". I was unable to do anything because the error kept popping up. So i switched to an Orange (again Israel) (u)Sim. THe phone turned on without any errors but its not finding any networks. I try to go to the Network settings but the "Default Setup" option is not available.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I am going overseas on Monday and need to use one of these Sims.
(BTW- I am currently in the US but im assuming that wouldnt be an issue in trying to setup a sim card)
Thank you

I'm pretty sure if you put an Israel sim card in in the united states that it will not find the networks because Israel use a different frequency than the united states .

The type of sim card should have nothing to do with the frequency. That is determined by the type of phone you are using.

Sorry, no. The frequency is determined by what the cell tower for that carrier is running. For instance United states GSM is 850/1900. Israel is GSM 900/1800.

I'm using orange which is 850 also. Anyways why would I still be locked out the settings for changing the network info?

My TyTn II doesnt recognize my SIM card

I had bought a AT&T Tilt off ebay and in the States it works with my Cingular network. However when I travel as I am now in Greece and use the Cosmote SIM card it states that the SIM is not inserted and thus I am stuck. Cosmote runs on the 900/1800 network and Cingular runs on the 850/1900. The TyTn II is supposed to work on each and every frequency. It was supposed to be unlocked when I bought it but I don't know exactly what to do now.
Anyone help?
The Card is not even recognized, this points more to a broken SIM Card. The TyTn Can operate in all these Frequenzies and would prompt an error that this device is locked to another network if it wasn't unlocked. So this error message is more like there is no SIM Card inserted.
Have you tried it in another phone? cleaned the metallic contacts of the Chip?
Maybe you can try the unlocker program, to make shore it really is unlocked.

Try to check on Phone settings if Network selection, Type and Band are in automatic mode.

The Cosmote SIM I have for my TyTn works great in my friends K1 Motorola KRZR and his brother's RAZR...Both of which were unlocked in the US and also have greek SIM cards.
Does there need to be a special 3G SIM card inserted for the device to operate?
For the link
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Its telling me I have to pay to check if its unlocked....I don't want to shell out $40 for something that "might" be done already
My v1615 (with Vodafone) showed the same error after owning the phone for 2hrs! Vodafone confirmed the device had a hardware fault and issued a replacement straight away - new handset has been fine.
I'm not saying that's the case with yours but it's already highlighted to me that the stability of these phones can be flaky at times (having been warned by several people before buying)

WTF? I thought the N1 was unlocked?

Hey yall, I just got to israel and I had purchased an N1 banking on the fact that it was carrier unlocked... I just popped in the new israeli SIM card and every 5 seconds an error message pops up saying com.android.phone has stopped, this doesn't happen in airplane mode so I don't know what to do. Back in the states I had popped in an ATT sim and it worked fine.
it is unlocked but only to certain carriers and certain radio frequencies. american ATT and Tmobile I know work, cant tell you much about Israel though. What carrier are you trying to get it to work on and maybe we can see if the radios match up.
Yup, it is unlocked. There is something else going on wrong there. Try reseating the SIM card? Maybe you got a bad SIM card?
It's celcomm israel, could it be a CM 6 error?

hmm, the Nexus should definitly be able to pick up those 2G bands atleast. Call the cell carrier and see if it is on their side, i heard somewhere that some carriers block other cells unless you give them the IMEI to unlock service, or something like that.
Well, I just popped in my bro's Orange SIM and it works fine... But mine is cellcom so that may be the issue.. it is also a USIM card not regullar sim, could that be it?
it's definitely not a frequency thing, GSM is 900/1800 which the N1 supports and UMTS is 850/2100 which your phone supports
in terms of why the sim card won't work, try going to a cellcom store, one time i got a bad sim from them so who knows
Well, I found the right APN settings, but when I type them in and hit save it doesn't add itself to the list, I typed them in without the SIM card in to avoid the force closes, but when I put the sim back in, I still have the force close issues

isnt a USIM completely different technology? i thought that is what CDMA carriers in the states use, or the nextel technology uses. i dont think that is a gsm network...

no that's CSIM, USIM is just a SIM for UMTS (3G) networks
Force closes aren't connected to anything being locked, they're OS error.
USIM or no USIM doesn't matter. Nexus works 100%, with both Cellcom and Orange. In fact I've installed FRF91 on one with Cellcom SIM, and it works fine.
Reinstall stock or close-to-stock FRF91 and check again, if it fails - exchange the SIM.
You won't see the APNs in the list unless you have the SIM inserted, and if you've added APNs without SIM - they're most probably worthless (unless you've entered MCC and MNC, which are taken from the registered network when you have the SIM installed). APNs show in the list only when their MCC and MNC match those of the carrier. When you use MarketEnabler or MarketAccess, for example, the APNs disappear from the list until you revert back to normal.

Okay before I go any farther, some definitions are in order.
UICC = Universal Integrated Circuit Card
SIM = Subscriber Identity Module
USIM = Universal Subscriber Identity Module
RUIM = Removable User Identity Module
CSIM = CDMA Subscriber Identify Module
The UICC is the physical strata or card where the DATA is stored. SIM, USIM, R-UIM and CSIM are applications or modules flashed onto the card.
The SIM application (which is used in GSM networks) contains information about the users account and other relevant information that the handset will use to communicate with the mobile network.
The USIM application (which is an update to the SIM application and is used with UMTS [3G] networks) again, stores user account DATA and other relevant info required by the handset to operate on a mobile network.
The R-UIM was originally developed as an add-on to the SIM application to allow CDMA networks users to have the same functionality as a GSM user where by the user could change his/her handsets ad hoc. With the added benefit that a CDMA user could remove their R-UIM and insert it into an unlocked GSM phone and utilize like they would their own phone, thus allowing for seamless billing across foreign (roaming) networks.
The CSIM is an update to the R-UIM where by the USIM application is added to UICC to allow for seamless roaming across different types of mobile networks.

Note I9220 no signal in UK problem

Hi All
I bought my galaxy note i9220 in China on 18th Aug. It is a genuine phone, NOT a clone just to note.
It was working perfectly fine when I was in China using a China Mobile SIM card.
Last Sunday I went to hongkong to catch a flight to London, and when I was in Hong kong, I changed back to my UK 3 SIM card, which again, was working OK in hongkong.
Before flight took off, I switched the phone off.
During the flight, I must have hit some button and accidently switched the phone on ( as when I landed, I took my phone out and it was “ON” with no signal).
Ever since I landed in Heathrow, I got no signals. The phone shows I can only make emergency calls.
I have tried all of the below but none worked:
1) Switching the phone off & on.
2) Take out battery (while phone was off) & SIM and put them back later.
3) Take out battery (while phone was on) & SIM and put them back later.
4) Reset to manufactory status.
When I go to Setting – Wireless & Network – Mobile Network – Search operator, I can see “3” in the list of operator, but when tried to connect to it, it said “Unable to connect to the network”.
The “3” sim worked fine in my old NOKIA phone so I don’t think it’s a problem on the SIM.
Anyone able to help? Thanks sooo much!
a suggestion..try to make sure you inserted the sim card with the bend angle facing the bottom of your phone..sometimes you insert your sim in a wrong way and this cause your problem..am not trying to be funny but it happen with quite a lot of people including me...
or Could be a fault on your phone..and these things happen..
or your sim is invalid for a reason..i suggest to get a pay as you go 3 uk sim card and try it ...or call 3 customer service and speak to one of their agents to have a look at your account ... they might send you another sim or pop in one of their stores and speak to someone about it...if nothing wrong with your account then am afraid it is a hardware issue with your phone..
Are you sure the phone is not a 4G phone?
This won't work in the UK as our Cell's are different as well.

Got my mum called the phone provider back in CHina they said it should be ok to use in the UK.
They asked me to check my SIM freuency (or sth like this). and said as long as it is on GSM900/1800/1900MHZ, then it should work...what is that???
Try change your network settings between the options, gsm, hspa, and wcdma. Think it's settings, more, mobile networks, network mode.
Probably one of those should sort you out.

Thanks.
When i went into the"mobile networks", the phone started auto search of network.
And it returns network lists:
3
O2 (forbidden)
Vodafone (forbidden)
I understand the 2 being forbidden as im not a custmer of either O2 or VDF, but it just does not allow me even to connect to 3..grrr very anooying.....
I will try changing the settings when i get home today.

[Q][Solved] Some particularities of "Free" network in France

Hi everyone,
I bought myself a nexus 4 and I gave the P990 to my girlfriend.
I did a factory reset and inserted her SIM card (the mobile operator is called Free, a french operator), and I got a "roaming" symbol in the network. This was with the combination I have in my signature.
I've been trying different basebands today, and now I can't get any reception at all, it just says "No network".
Now I'm with DjangoManouch stock rom, 218 baseband, still no network with Free's sim card, but I tried with my sim card and it's working perfectly... I tried Free's sim card in my nexus 4 and it is also working perfectly...
I did get "normal" reception using the combination in my sig with free's sim card at a specific location... my best guess is that free's cell towers need a very specific baseband for it to work correctly? Do you have any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Cheers!
Slight update, the total network loss was solved by changing to the correct IMEI (it must have been reset by one of the flashes I did).
But the "roaming" problem is still there Manually selecting the network solves it temporarily. Has anyone ever had a similar situation?
Thanks!!
Did some more research... apparently her network has very limited coverage, and for the areas where it is not covered it has a deal with another operator, Orange.
So, whenever she doesn't have "official" coverage, she'll get the roaming symbol. And apparently they have an app to avoid people in the border to get reception from foreigner operators, which would mean "real" roaming, which is odd and interesting.
Anyways, hope it will help someone...

[Q] Can't connect to Telus, just Rogers

Ok guys very strange and a little bit of a long winded story here......
So I am from the UK and have a factory sim free HTC One M7, used in the UK on EE no issues.
I am travelling in Canada so decided to get a Telus Prepaid Sim card, went to the store had it activated and installed today and it was working fine for about 3 hours in Medicine Hat. As I drove out the city it began to lose signal, now the only network I can see under carriers is Rogers.
I tried the sim in my friends phone (samsung s3) and it works fine and picks up signal immediately.
So it MUST be a phone issue, can someone please help me find a solution?

so that means either your phone is locked and it does not allow for overseas carriers. reason you see rogers is thats roaming mode on and connected to Rogers.

Ok I gave up with it in the end and sold the sim card to a friend.
I bought a Rogers sim card as the phone was picking that up quite easily, ow my issue is I am only getting an EDGE connection when I am in an area that supports HSPA+
I'm really beginning to despair.
