Hello, I have been having some issues with getting GMail alerts instantly. When my N1 is on the 3G network, any new email that comes through my GMail account is notified to me instantly. When I am on WiFi though, it takes a while to alert me. Sometimes it takes 15 or 45 minutes to alert me of my new email from the time it landed in my inbox. I have a stable wifi connection, my internet connection is stable, no disconnects, as I am able to browse in my desktop. Can someone please help me? The only other app GMail related is GMail Notifier that is installed on my N1. But I doubt that is the cause.
On a possibly related note, when I try to download apps on the Marketplace, it keeps scrolling at 'Starting download' on WiFi. When on 3G, it instantly downloads and installs it. I just installed 2.2.1 on my phone.
Any suggestions, please?
Yea I'm pushing this topic again.
However, I fixed it.
Is your wifi sleep policy perhaps set to anything but "never"?
Had nothing to do with that.

Hi
I am in roaming mode now (travelling the US) and I cant connect to download my emails from the email tab (only my exchange accounts work strangely enough). Neither does the weather tab allow me to update, complains about connection settings and so on. However, surfing with the browser works fine. What could be wrong? Not sure if rhe network operaators could help and which one I shouldd call, the ones here or home.
I have recently upgraded to Dutty's 1.8 ROM and have reinstalled all my usual applications but for some reason the phone keeps dialing up an internet connection. When I terminate the connection it starts again after a few seconds.
I have set my mail receive to manual and checked around the other apps I use (Funambol etc) but I cannot discover which application is requesting a network connection.
Has anyone got any ideas how to resolve? My battery life is shocking due to the connection always being on.
Cheers
Aidan
My friend and I both have N1's there are times that his radio bars are green and sometimes gray. I have not seen this with mine yet (just got it today). I only have seen gray. What would these color differences indicate?

yeah green = connected to google servers.
grey = disconnected from google servers.
Thanks Guys
Wanted to bump this. I am having this same issue, and my bars go from green to white especially after unlocking from standby. When they are white, I can't connect to anything even though I am connected to wifi at home? This issue is REALLY annoying. Anyone else dealing with this or know of a fix? Sometimes it randomly changes while I am using it. The only way to get it to go back to green is signing into google talk, which sometimes takes 3-4 tries with server connection errors in between. When I am at home I have little to no internet connection via cell, and gprs is all I can connect to, which is why I use the wifi at home. I just don't understand why I can't use the internet if the google server is not connected, and why it drops the google server connection constantly. I should be able to use wifi for browsing apps even if its not connected to google???? Or am I wrong. Please help.
Thanks
(I am running stock, and the phone is not rooted btw..thanks)

try changing your wifi sleep policy to never...
settings--> wifi or whatever--> press menu --> sleep policy --> never
that SHOULD fix it when you're at home... outside i don't know since i dont use data.
cheers!
You're mixing cause and outcome. Your WiFi doesn't work at home, or your phone doesn't want to work with your home WiFi - that's the reason you can't connect to internet, and that's also the reason why you're seeing grey bars.
I have started having this problem this week too. My WiFi is fine. The browser connects and loads pages fine. My connections are now always grey/white instead of green regardless if I'm on WiFi or 3G/2G. All Google services do not work. I am not receiving push emails nor can I force sync in the Gmail app. I've tried to connect by opening up Google Talk but it closes right away. My WiFi sleep policy is already set to never.
My phone is running stock 2.3.4, unrooted.
Hi
A few days ago I started experiencing a strange issue that I just can't resolve.
Certain apps and accounts, i.e. Facebook, email, playstore, Google, Flip board etc. simply will not load/refresh/sync over mobile network. However, I can still browse the Internet using various apps (chrome, stock browser). With Spotify, I can stream music but am unable to download. There is no issue with the data connection as I am getting 'H' or '3g' and showing decent stats on Speed test. I have no issues at all over Wifi - everything works perfectly.
It's as if something is preventing apps from syncing/refreshing over the network but not affecting Internet access.
I have an unbranded device with a sim only Talk Talk deal.
Kitkat 4.2.2
4.12.401.11
I'm going to do a hard reset next but wondered if there was another solution.
Any ideas?

At work we had a phone that did not want to sync email on 3G. (Perhals other apps, we did not check.)
It turned out his phone was roaming on 3G, and the email client was set not to push mail when roaming.
I think the guy had bad signal on its own network on this location and so the phone was roaming.
He could still use his browser and many other apps without any problems.
Maybe it has nothing to do with your problem but I thought I should post it.
Because it sure has many things in common, also in this example on WIFI everything would work fine.
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thanks for that, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a roaming issue.
I've just factory reset the device, completely wiped everything. Tries to log into Facebook and the same thing happened. Switches to WiFi and it worked straight away.
I tried forcing the mobile data to only use WCDMA. This actually seemed to resolve the problem temporarily and I was able to update Facebook however it soon reverted to how it was and I was unable to sync email, update Facebook or download on Spotify unless over WiFi.
I'm wondering if it's the Sim card or possibly a problem with the phone but I'm struggling to understand (albeit with limited knowledge) how this strange behaviour could be hardware related...
This is a problem I've noticed for quite a few months now, before the MIUI 12 update (possibly even saw it on 10).
The best way I can desribe it is the WI-FI connection seems to go to sleep randomly when the phone has been locked.
I won't get any notifications, I won't get any messages through facebook come through etc. The device still says it's connected to my home WI-FI network though. If I try to browse the web or do something else then it will try to do it instead of saying No Internet, it acts like it does have an internet connection (probably because it believes it's connected to a wi-fi network?) but will never succeed.
If I then turn WI-FI off and on again I'll then get bombarded with notifications and messages I've missed.
Is anybody else experiencing this and is there a solution? It's only a 2-second inconvenience to flick the WI-FI off and on, but it's an annoyingly regular occurence and more importantly I'm missing messages and notifications which could be important to me.
