Hi
I have noticed that after a while (a week or so) the oldest read emails disappear from my inbox. Is this normal behaviour? Is this an option I can change?
cheers

Hi,
This happens to me too.
Just change the Synchronisation Settings in your email account on WP7.
For example in my Google account I have the option to download emails from the last 7 days. Chosse the time you want: last 3 days/2 weeks/last month or anytime.
Thanks
You might have sync setting set to show only emails from last 7 days.
Open your email tile, click on the little 3 dots on bottom, click on setting, click on sync settings, then change(download email from)to whatever time frame you want showing. Hope this helps
I can confirm that this exact problem is also happening to me. All my emails have gone from my inbox, changing the settings as suggested does not work. I would like all my messages to be permanently in the inbox or at least have a cached copy on the phone once the inboxes has been updated
@cpascal
What you're asking for is opposite of what "syncronizing" does.
I believe what you're wanting is a POP account.

I'm new to the mobile phones using windows. But untill now i'm almost compleetly happy with the TyTNII.
The problem i'm having is that emails older than 3days are suddenly gone missing in my inbox . I can't seem to find any setting dialog where i can change this. Mayby i have to set something in the registry but i don't know what . So i'm hoping that someone can and will help.
I've tried to delete the account and after rebooting creating a new one but the problem still remains.
If you are using push or imap it is a settign in your server config for how many days of email to show.
No i'm using pop3 in both cases.

There's a setting, it lets you choose how many days of email to keep on our phone. It's default to 3 or 4. Thissetting applies to any POP or IMAP mail accounts, whether you are using push or on-demand email retrieval. Go to your email account on the phone, and select menu|tools|options or soemthing like that. choose the account, and edit the settings for it (it like a few pages into the "setup wizard" for the account)...
Go to Start-Programs-Messaging-menu-options-tap on your email name in the box-next-next-next-next-next-and finally the drop down menu under Download messages.
First of all i would like to thank you for your advise but i've been looking for such a setting myself and could not find it. Not even under the advanced button!
the only setting witch has something with day is :
Download messages from the past xx days or all messages.
As i understand it this has to with downloading and not with messages already downloaded right?
That is the setting. Perhaps it's poorly worded. but if you say "download emails from the last 3 days", then it will remove emails from your phone that are older than 3 days. So as time goes by, messages that download one day will be removed from the phone 3 days later. They don't get "deleted" from you rmail system, just removed from your phone.
It's a strange way to name a setting like this indeed. But i think i get it now and i'll go for the setting all messages than. I want to controlle the way wich email to keep and wich not!
Thank alot for your help
Hi
My Tilt automatically deletes emails on its own. After hitting send and receive it gets the new emails and then the old one get removed and the are not in the deleted items folder. Please help.
It does not delete the emails but does not show them anymore, they're still available. Don't know if this is a setting or default.
I am new here sorry. So where do the emails go. I called ATT and spoke to HTC as well they said device was defective. This is my second device this week and it still does the same. ATT, HTC says they never heard anything like that before.
It's not defective. It's a setting. If you use mail from an external ISP you do the setup of your account. In outlook on PC (I presume you use that) there is a setting to keep a copy on the server. If that is not flagged, you send and receive mail on your device, but as soon as you do send and receive on your desktop it clears the files from the server and puts them on your PC. If you then again do a send and receive the mails are gone from the server and automatically removed from your device.
EDIT: Why not using exchange instead. Then you don't have this issue at all.
Yeah, it has to do with over how many days you want to download emails to your device. The default is typically 3 days, at least on mine, so if an email is older than 3 days it will be removed from the phone. It will still be on the main server though, unless you manually delete it from the phone in which case the aforementioned setting to keep a copy on the server is selected. So, in other words, if you are downloading Gmail, for example, if you log in to the Gmail website your email will be there, just not on your phone if it's older than 3 days. Obviously, changing that cutoff date will add or remove more emails. BTW, you change that by opening Messaging, go to Menu > Options, and pick the account you would like to change. Then go thru the wizard, and when you get to the panel that says "Download Messages", change the setting in that panel.
Re
Did you checked your e-mails with your pc as well? Your PC downloads the from the server, your tytn show them only.
so if you connect after you've been busy on your desktop, their gone and can be found on your desktoppc
Thanks Everyone I think i understan what you guys are saying. I am used to a blablberry where that leaves it on th BB until i delete them. Thanks
Is there a setting where i can leave them on both computer and phone at the same time?
not really, just increase the download time in the email settings, but none will stay permanently. (Unless there's a keep all emails option, I don't remember ATM and the girlfriend has my phone). It's a memory saving function.
Enter the messaging screen, tap 'Menu' then 'Tools' then 'Options'. Next, tap on the 'Storage' tab at the bottom, you will then see a dropdown menu for 'Empty Deleted items'. Select 'Manually' and your problems will be solved.

It is not working on Kaiser. Is there any solution for keep emails on pocket outlook when they gone from inbox on sever?
The one solution what i know is move email to the other folder ('draft' or created one) beacuse mails are deleting automaticly only from inbox folder in pocket outlook when it can't be find exacly the same copy on server.

This is not SOLVED
Here si the fix on the HTC and disappearing emails
1 start/message/click email account/menu/tools/options/tap email account/edit account setup/next/next/next/next/next/download message 3 pls days/advance setting/keep them on server/next/ finish
Do this for all accounts
Now go to your computer and outlook tools/email accounts/view or change email account/next/change/ more settings/advanced/leave copy on server/ how many days is up to you
You must do this for all you accounts on that computer. then do the same to all the computer you use to get the same e-mails.
I am actually having the same issue as the person that started this thread. It only started 2day. Ive had my phone for over a year and it was with WM 6.0 and my gmail on the phone was working fine....if i pressed send recieve it got my emails....i left them in the inbox and when i pressed send recieve again 30 mins later for an example my old emails still stayed while the new ones came in. Now i upgraded my phone to WM 6.1 last night and now when i press send recieve to get my gmail the older emails automatically erase/disappear from my phone. Anyone understand why? And yes its still on my regular gmail account...it doesnt disappear from there!
So, my problem is that every time I receive a new message in hotmail, I read it and delete it. And, each time I delete a message at the top of the list, a new message appears from the end of my inbox. The trouble is, the old message appears as new at the bottom of my message list. Is there a setting that I am missing?

Go into your settings in the hotmail account, and check never for update frequency. Then log into your account on your computer and delete the emails. I was having the same problem with aol account, I deleted the emails like 10 times and they kept coming back, so thats what I did. Once you delete them on your computer they might come back one more time, but after you delete them this time they won't come back.

Does this still allow hotmail to update?
When I bought the phone I remember plugging in my 2 gmail accounts and then days later noticing that some email was better formatted. Then i realized that the notification dropdown actually takes me to 2 different applications.
Why would it be set up so that I am managing the same email account through 2 different application? The gmail application does a better job of formatting the email so can I turn off the email application. Its a shame that the email application is stuck on the bottom of my home screen.
Also is there a way I can prevent deleted email from sounding an audible alert and placing itself in the notifications dropdown? For example I delete and email and then 30 minutes later when a sync occurs I get a notification that i have new email. Its new email to the trash bin.

Its actually very easy to do this, First thing first, lets get that nasty e-mail icon off the bottom of your touchwiz. Check out the PMC (Pimp my Captivate) Guide in the General Section, for a better explanation (and i highly recommend you root, flash custom recovery, enable sideloading, and remove bloatware as per the guide), but essentially, open your applications drawer, hit menu, view type, custom, hit menu, hit arrange, then you can drag and drop out of the bottom row.
Next, open up that same e-mail client, hit menu -> account notifications -> uncheck email notifications .. done
I'm halfway done with your instructions. Thanks for the good info.

No problem, hope you enjoy your new lease on touchWiz (since you can completely customize the bottom buttons now )
My new droid 3 is bringing in ALL of my gmail. This phone was just turned on a few hours ago and it has brought in the history of my gmail account, 29, 311 emails.
I see no way to "delete all"
I would like to know if I can delete all of them for I surely do not need many years of email on my new phone.
Is there a way to pick and choose who I want emails to come from to load on phone?
My gmail has been set up for years to come into my computers Windows Mail.
I understand on Gmail site as well as my computers windows mail that I can make folders for mail to dump into.
But even it would have placed all this mail into folders I would still have to clean
them out.
I only wanted it to bring in the mail from today....forward
Log into gmail via the web, hit the top checkmark box (not in your email, but above it in the toolbar looking thing). A bar directly below will pop up saying all 50 mails have been selected; next to that there is a link that will select every email/conversation, click it; now you can hit the toolbar archive/delete/move and everything will go with it.
Cheers,

If I was to do this while logged into gmail.com then it would delete my gmail history. I am not wanting to delete from the server itself, just off my phone. So point being I got the phone yesterday and it brought in the email from many years. Silly!
How can I get all this email off my phone is the question and just have current stuff coming in?
I was under the impression that the Gmail app only synced the last 4 days by default. You can change the sync settings by going into the settings menu and selecting your gmail account and then go to sync inboxes and labels.
Seriously though, 29k emails in your inbox!?! Hate to say it but you really should use some labels and clean out that inbox.
29k emails sitting on a server is nothing. It has a search area. why would I bother with that ..they are just sitting there, and I don't read online. I understand they were supposed to sync last 4 days. that is the point. Why do I have so many, and how do I repair this as sync is not working, nor was it with my first droid.
Also it brought in contacts etc that I deleted 2 years ago, after I got rid of first droid! How did it remember that. argh
