Dolphin Mini 1.0 available - G Tablet Themes and Apps

Hi,
Fyi, I just noticed that Dolphin Mini browser is now out of beta, available on market.
The key changes, for me are that you can now select plugin behavior, and setting a gesture to Homepage now correctly goes to the Speed dial page, so I can use fullscreen almost 100%.
Jim

I really like it so far, seems to scroll smoother and they downsized those monster tabs! I'll have to try it on my phone.

Yeah. Looks nice.
It took me awhile, but I'm starting to like Dolphin Mini.
I still think that Xscope is faster, but I've been having problems with Flash (other thread here), and I really want a browser where I can leave it in full screen to take advantage of the Gtab screen size, without constantly pressing Menu to navigate.
The Dolphin Mini 1.0 allows me to do that.
Basically, I set all of the links that I usually go to on the Homepage/Speed dial page.
Then I set a gesture (a small "h") to go to the Speed Dial. Then go to fullscreen.
So now, whenever I want to go back to speed dial, I just do the "h" gesture, and I go from there, staying fullscreen all the time.

Winterface & FunContacts & Zoomboard

You have to try those to believe how good the Winterface application is. I saw the review on Tiltsite.com today, downloaded it and immediately loved it. It is extremely finger friendly, the interface is very intuitive and beautifully designed. It also uses minimum amount of system resource thus is very efficient.
http://iwindowsmobile.com/vito-mobile-shell.html
Their FunContacts is also a gem to have. Extremly finger friendly, smooth scrolling of the contact list like the iPhone. It absolutely replaces the old school "stylus-required" contact application included in WM6.1.
http://iwindowsmobile.com/contact-manager.html
I've also tried their Zoomboard application, I think it's a good concept, however there is room for improvement. It is still quite slow to type on the Zoomboard application. However the accuracy of the text is improved dramatically because of the zoomed in text let you see what you've pressed on the screen. But it still can't beat Kaiser/Tilt's excellent keyboard for typing.
http://iwindowsmobile.com/onscreen-keyboard.html
Enough said, I strongly encourage people to try it out. It will be a investment well spend. They also have a whole lot of other nicely designed applications on their webpage, check them out too.

seems like alot to spend on a couple of good apps that already exist freely...iContact, HTC album (for the photo thing) and even the (Samsung Glyde copy) button interface all exist free of charge. I'd have to see better to be convinced to put down $40 for 2 apps.
how do you install over an existing GUI... today screen , start menu, taskbar, etc???..
does it wipe them all out?
can you go back easily?

Conflicts
Do you know of any conflicts with this app? I have HHC installed right now.

You slide your finger in an arc to enable the interface from your home screen or anywhere else. You can click okay button and easily go back to normal interface if you choose to do so.
When phone is unlocked in Winterface, you can "slide to unlock" the phone with a touch of a finger.
I installed this over Garmin's DK1 WM6.1 cooked rom, so far everything works smooth as silk. Garmin's DK1 includes HTC Home v2.0.1812282.1 that I enabled in my home screen. This app run dependent of HTC Home plugin so there is no problems that I found.
In my opinion this app totally replaces HTC Home just because it is much more intuitive (it displays # of new message you got or # of missed calls you have and stuff like that). Couple finger movement after you can reach almost any application on the phone.
I don't work for this company or anything... Just think it's a really cool app to try.
And after couple hours of useage, here is a little short list of pros and rooms for improvement:
Pro -
Extremly finger friendly, smooth flow, elegant design layout.
Low memory useage, fast start up anywhere in the OS.
Very intuitive interface, texts under icons are extremely useful, compare to some other apps who only incorporated icons.
Love to be able to mix and match the apps I need and put them in order I want.
Room for improvement -
Slide to unlock button will disappear if a phone call caused the phone to lock itself, the phone would also lock itself unwanted after a phone call is in progress. It is annoying because when you want to press the keys on the screen, you find the phone locked with slide to unlock.
Contrast of the default icons are rather low (The whites are a bit above mid gray color)
Would be nice to flip from first page to last and then from last to first in one direction.
Would be nice to have option to display non-clear type fonts, my eye don't see well under clear type fonts.
Too bad SMS-Chat and FunContact have problem displaying typed text in landscape orientation in windows mobile 6.1 device (no problem in 6.0 though), or they would work great alone side Winterface.

so, how do i get that display of clock and slide to unlock?
edit :: wait, i get it.. this doesnt come w/anything else..
i like it -- really fast and nice to look at..
thanx..
Hmm,
I found quirks about the FunContact... Clear Type fonts used in that application will make all the typed in text display go blank when viewed in landscape mode... not recommended......

doesnt that always happen in landscape + clear type ?

I think it does, the system wouldn't even let me enable clear type on landscape mode... Maybe that's why all those apps that use cleartype in landscape mode would not display typed text properly

I personally LOVE the Zoomboard because of it's accuracy when typing one-handed (usually while driving). Obviously, I also prefer the regular hard keyboard, but we all know that's not always an option.
What free software that is similar to Zoomboard are you talking about?

Browser Advice: Try this Opera Mini CAB

In case no one has seen this yet, I highly recommend to try this "build" of Opera Mini:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455655
It solves the issue of small fonts, and has no problem with data connections or permissions. It is FAAAAST. It is best version I've seen, and I've tried a bunch of them.
After 10 minutes with this, it is hard to go back to another browser. My advice -- embrace the "mobile" rendering mode, don't bother with the desktop pan/zoom mode, and enjoy simply paging up/down (with the left/right dpad) on pages that are reformatted almost perfectly on the small screen.
UPDATE: and, by the way, to use your BACK key to go back in pages, add this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd\ChangeBackVKeyCode\Jbed_NativeUI = dword:00000008
(This makes the BACK key map to BACKSPACE, so it will also delete text when doing data entry, etc.)
I will certainly give this a try........thanks for the highlight.
I downloaded and installed the cab. The browsers good, but is there anyway to make the menu button at the bottom larger, because currently I am not even able to access it.

Well the easiest way to change that would be Menu -> Settings, and then change the font size, but if you can't access the menu button at all I think you can change the font sizes in the registry. I don't remember the location off-hand though.
could anyone post a screenshot please??
which version is now the best?? 20081016 or 20081203??
this browser is super fast, but i miss the zoom and drop down menus dont seem to work
I like it better than the default opera, but I have noticed some issues.
extending the keyboard seems to cause trouble, it causes the touchflo gui to cover up the opera menu bar. Tilting does not change from portrait to landscape.
Awesome browser. I wish you could zoom with the scrolling motion on the D-Pad like opera mobile, or that you could zoom at all. Thats the only problem. :/
Oh and if you start with your keyboard out the Touch Flo doesn't interfer with the menu bar at the bottom.
EDIT: I changed the font size, so zooming isn't needed. I love the mouse, it is so awesome. How can I set this as my default?
is this the one with the rainbow loading screen for the jvm?

TouchFlo scroll problem

Ok, first to the admins/moderators - I searched my ass off trying to find a thread with my problem, to no avail... so if there is one, please excuse me...
So here is my problem - I find it very difficult to scroll any list with my finger because I just end up selecting some item from the list... Is there any registry setting to, lets say, delay the select behavior of TouchFlo? I mean, for example, I try scrolling my contacts, I AM able to scroll but almost immediately after I start scrolling I end up selecting some contact!?! Am I the only one with that problem? PLEASE HELP!
Bump. Anyone?
I just have the problem the other way around, I just can't select multiple items because everything starts scrolling...
try scrolling with finger in more center of screen
selecting works if you scroll motion on left or right side usually

Also , make it more of a " flick " with your finger, instead of a touch and drag scroll.
So there's no registry setting? I have tried changing settings in HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings, HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCGesture, HKLM\Drivers\Touchpanel, HKLM\Software\HTC\TouchScroll... can't seem to make any difference!!! The screen becomes more responsive, scrolling is faster/slower, but no effect on my problem - whenever I try to scroll I always end up selecting... there HAS to be some setting that determines the delay from scrolling to selecting behavior... it works so well on the damn iPhone... also works beautifully on the S2U2 settings screen... they should fire all the idiots at HTC and hire the S2U2 guys to do their interface!!!

Oh well, I guess I'll just wait till some genius dev out there finds out the right registry key, I give up
I hate to say this, but I think that is the expected behavior or TouchFlo scrolling.
You can drag to scroll specifically (and I don't believe this selects anything, at least on my Tilt), or you can swipe to start kinetic scrolling. If you click while kinetic scrolling is occurring, I think TouchFlo causes a selection to be made (although in places where single-click activate is the default, I don't think it actually activates the item--it simply highlights it).
You may be able to resolve this by changing the TFLOSettings\FingerPressure value.
I had a problem for the first six months with TouchFlo where the context menu would pop up about one in three times I tried to scroll (swiping or dragging). This happened even the moment I started using the device. Completely and utterly unusable. But after the third or so time I tried adjusting TFLOSettings values in the registry, I finally solved the problem. I ended up with TFLOSettings\FingerPressure=0x64 (100) and TouchPanel\PressureThreshold=0xC8 (200).
I REALLY wish HTC or someone would produce a complete guide to customizing TouchFlo scrolling (including the meanings of the TFLOSETTINGS values). It really works well, once it is optimized. Although, it will be great if Microsoft builds scrolling into the Common Controls in WM6.5.

Actually there are genius developers in here. I think you're just being a little picky, the touch flo works fine for me.
I think I recall a touchflo sensitivity setting in KaiserTweak. Get it, then try setting the Touchflo sensitivity to the most sensitive option possible.
Dave
+1 on Kaisertweek, altho I reduced sensitivity instead of increasing it. Technique counts too. I tend to use nails or stylus for browsers, especially Opera. Use keyboard for contacts, and scrollwheel to dial it from there. Every phone is different, but reducing sensitivity via Kaisertweek worked for me.
Problem solved
Finally figured it out and now it works perfectly. The culprit was the too high value in HKLM\Drivers\Touchpanel\PressureThreshold.... I put a value of 160 (dword:000000a0) and now I have almost iPhone experience
heres a thread closer !
to bring some closure to this thread, the following utility will solve all your touchflo woes!!!

Things I've learned about apps on rooted Color Nook...

I dove in and bought two Color Nooks and spent many hours getting it "just right", in terms of usability for apps - mostly due to the Back or Menu buttons not staying put on the CN, which means having to hit the Home button to get out of the app.
I used autonooter, version ending in 18. It went fine, once I got Java SDK installed.
App-wise:
Movies: The trick is to use Root Explorer to open them. MixZing keeps the menu bar showing, which is nice. With Zimly, stop the movie and double tap to do a Back. The stock Movies/Gallery has a Back button on a single tap.
Music: PlayerPro keeps the notification bar and is a very good player. Doesn't have cover flow, but none of them do. Cubed is close, but it uses blown-up version of small album cover uimages, so it looks like crap. PlayerPro has a nice scrolling screen of large cover images. MixZing is great because it has a built-in EQ... very nice. But, not as sexy in the cover display department. But it does keep the notification bar so you can do a Back while a song is playing.
Launcher: Zeam is the only way to go. I use LauncherPro on my HTC Incredible, but it's not as flexible as Zeam. You can remove all the icons except the app Drawer to keep it clean. You can also configure swipes for toggling the notification bar and "expanding" notifications.
Screen: LCD Display is great for testing different resolutions. I've found that 220 works well. Bigger icons and text, yet you can still see the notifications balloon on the left and the time.
Browser: Dolphin works well. Pinch zoom works.
Reader: Kindle works very well, though the Kindle Store doesn't work so much. Just click to go to the Home for Amazon, and it brings up the browser and you can buy/download whatever you like. Go to Archive to see the new books you've downloaded and then move them to Home. The B&N apps, in general, don't work so well at the new screen size of 220. but they work. I just use Kindle to keep it clean.
Picture Gallery: Really couldn't find one that had a Back button!! The stock Gallery app is fine, though, I suppose. Nothing fancy, but it works, and is better than having to reconfigure the Volume keys to get a Back button. Tempted to reconfigure the Home button to do that, but... not sure that's a good idea. Kinda like having Home available for a quick jump back to sanity.
Adding AnReboot app helps while rooting and making changes later.
Outside of that, feel free to add anything I missed.
why not just use home switcher and avoid all this hassle?
bind soft keys to the N button for one click and home screen for 2 clicks problem solved
Thank you for sharing your findings.
Have you tried ADW Launcher yet? I tried Zeam but gravitate toward ADW.
Button Savioir works great for me, I find soft keys to be intrusive but to each there own.
As far as launchers go Zeam is nice, I like how the dock sets its self up but ADW has much more options and is why I choose it over Zeam. I just wish I could have more than 5 spots on my dock.
I also just gave your 220 LCD density a try and it cuts my time in half, put the hour above the minutes and I can barely see the notification area.

I think so. It feels much more like its built for a larger screen than HD. No more finger at the bottom (gosh that got in my way). Not glitchy anymore when swiping bookmarks open either. My screen used to stick when I swiped to open bookmarks.
i still like the stock version =P since i've gotten the xoom i havent went for any browsers yet
I do like this new browser a lot! It's about time they made a browser to focus specifically on tablets, more specifically... the Honeycomb tablets. The settings menu looks so much like the Honeycomb system settings menu... split screen windows. I'm coming from Dolphin Browser HD myself. I think I will be converting to Dolphin Pad soon.
Looking forward to future updates!
always use dolphin since I bought my xoom. Thanks.
I may be dim here, but how do you get it to recognize gestures? In Dolphin HD you would just touch and hold the lower left corner of the screen.

Is some kind Xoomer able to post the .apk? The market will not allow non-honeycomb tablets to download it, It would be much appreciated.

Awesome! Thanks for the find. I'm not much on Beta so I am looking forward to a final release. I'll follow the thread and thanks again!

Crashed on me once. Other than that, nothing else bugs me about it. Feels much faster than stock... Incredibly.

Nice find. I didn't see that one.
Question. Does Dolphin allow the browsing tab bar to stay at the top? That's the main reason why I use the stock browser because I can press on the tabs easily anytime.
I remember that scrolling down a long web page in Dolphin will just make the tabs disappear and I had to scroll back up to the top of the page before I can use the tabs.

The tabs don't scroll in this version. I like it better than dolphin HD.
Am I the only person that hates having no back button on the top left side for these browsers. I like the full screen button, but when I go full screen I lose the back button...would make sense to add a small back button or option for that.
I also hate the gesture button on the right side, but it is better than the phone version in the bottom left corner IMO.
I love the popup menu on the stock browser, but hate that it hides the tabs...wish someone would copy that or create a solution where the controls can be hit in the corners specified by the user.
I must be holding my tablet wrong
Am I missing something?
Want to import my bookmarks from Dolphin HD to this version but can't find any option to import bookmarks using the backup file I created in the phone version?
And really like this version. Same speed as the phone version but with better ui for the bigger screen.
