Ran Odin for the first time:
Opened Odin, turned phone to download mode, plugged phone in, started odin.
at that point odin didn't see any issues with my phone and ran unhindered.
upon reboot it got stuck in the now infamous world phone loop.
At first I couldn't get back into download mode => so I made a plug in jig(now getting in d/l mode is easy)
Tried to run odin again and it just ran perfectly like before and upon my phone's reboot... it goes back into the boot loop.
Did this little dance around 10x now...
my computer does not recognize the device but odin does...
Help would be appreciated seeing as how this is a common occurrence through out the forum from my observation.

Happened to me too. I suspect you have a 1010 or higher build phone.
I think you need the 2.2 (Froyo) version of Odin.
It's here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
Get to download, flash with that and you should be good to go.

This is the leaked version of froyo. It worked for me just fine but this was back in August and I have an older phone. As mxracer said, it may be due to you having a newer phone and the version DG posted might work for you. Check and make note of your phones build number for foture reference as some things may not work on your phone. This number is located under the battery. (Four digits, starts with 10xx)
You should really check us out over at Phoenix if you want some real kick azz froyo 2.2.1
This stuff is kinda outdated.

This is what I did to get the download mode and I double checked it twice that his method works before I posted here:

The other required file is Odin3 v1.30
I did the following first I right clicked the Odin3 and UNBLOCK it and change the compatible mod to XP
Here are the STEPS:
1- disconnect the cable from the phone.
2- launch Odin3 v1.30
3- Put your phone into FORCED UPLOAD by KEY PRESSING
4- Connect the USB cable to your phone (Odin3 should display "Added!!"
5- Select your file PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC then click on START
6- Your Odin will stop on "SetupConnection.." (if you use the older version of Odin it will stop at "File analysis.." and I don`t know if it works with the older version.
7. Now when you see the "SetupConnection.." Press Volume down + Home + Power and KEEP HOLDING IT UNTIL YOU SEE the DOWNLOAD MODE

Update: I've installed Kies the latest version I thought I can get the original firmware using Kies so I decided to bring the download mode using the above procedure then I was surprised the I could not get to the download mode again!!! Hmmm.... I uninstalled Kies then I tried again with no luck... I re-installed the driver "Windows 7&Vista x64 USB Driver.zip" then I repeated the above steps then the download mode is back.... Weird isn't??? It looks like the Kies override the driver with another driver... So in order to get my procedure working make sure you UNINSTALL completely KIES from your system and install the drivers that I mentioned... Also notice that adb.exe detects my device and it wasn't before... Now I have the Downloading mode but I don't know what to load Hope that anyone can point me where I can download the original firmware that comes with Bell i9000M model...

i had this happen one day on my work computer when every USB device shut down for a split second during the flash....
I just had the same thing happen. I was using odin 1.3 by following this sites directions, which were the most descriptive that I could have found. I was using odin 1.3.
For the record I am using a vibrant. I was certainly nervous of unplugging my phone in the middle of a flash, which turned to a green screen, but it worked. I reran the flash process and it worked fine the second time.
Thanks for the previous post for giving me the confidence to do it.
that happened to me as well I kept trying and trying I was fetting green screens blue pink purple orange etc I then tried plugging my cable in a different usb port on my cpu and it worked first try and has never failed me since. Not sure why it worked but give that a try

Trying to flash back form MIUI 1.6.10.
It either does the color thing or gets stuck at factory.rfs.
EDIT: Solved by using a diff USB cable! Le fffuuuuu....
i got a purple screen during an odin flash for about 15 minutes, so i unplugged, now nothing happens. no download mode, homemade jig doesn't work, vol+ vol- doesn't work, does this mean its hard bricked?

I had selected the modem and rom file that came with the samfirmware.com package.
Now phone will not even turn on, react to button presses, or show that it is charging while plugged in.. Tried taking out battery and putting it back in a few times with no luck.
This is an international version of the phone. Am I screwed? Could the battery have died while flashing or could the bootloader have been messed with?
I am panicing
Did you find a solution?
I have run into the identical issue and was wondering what your solution was?
I flashed the Vibrant firmware by accident onto my GT-i9000m and now the phone is dead, no boot screen, no logo, no reaction to any button combo.
I previously used the usb jig to get into the download mode, and when I reflashed a known to be good rom back on the phone I checked off "update bootloader" assuming the bootloader was at fault. Big mistake.
I've ordered a replacement phone from Bell, but if you have any info it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hmm that is normal as then it reboots into recovery and then loads the update zip. Might need to look into making a jig for it
I was trying to install CM7 from Apex10 and ran the bootloaders and something went wrong.. phone was completely off (nothing just blank, no key combinations worked)
I went to download mode using JIG and tried to go to stock and it kept stuck at this

I had the same thing happening to my phone a lil while back. I've got pass that issue by pulling the cable and the battery, restarting odin and connecting usb to the port that worked in the past (com4 in my case).
Thanks for sticking with me.. I tried another laptop and I was able to get the stock.. Now am more confident to play with this toy..with JIG in hand
