Obtain the latest version of DVD Fab Platinum from the "usual places". It has a option to convert video to pda. You have to select the main movie or whatever you wish and select the correct resolution in the configuration. In about less than half the time it takes to play the move you got a converted video. 2hr=40-50min. It uses mpeg4 compression for video @ 300kbps and mp3 audio @ 128kbps. Bitrate is changeable i converted a few tv series and movies and no stutter or playback. It wont playback in wmp but who uses it..... But it plays fine the TCPMP with no settings changed... I used the version included in duttys V2 rom that im using. It fluid no obvious stutter great quality. Hope this helps someone.
Other converting methods can be found in this thread

My version of TCPMP is actually LESS responsive than WM Media Player . What version number is your TCPMP app?
Thanks.
-Bob-
I use the latest. (0.81?) and find it just as responsive as WMP...
0.81 was always a beta and never an actual release. Just because it's newer doesn't mean it works better. 0.72RC1 is the best version and the newest official release of TCPMP out there.
Take a look at their site: TCPMP. Also there is a thread around this forum somewhere and one of the creators even points out that 0.81 is not an official release and that it is a lot slower and less reliable than 0.72RC1
I think there is something wrong with video playback on froyo i use Any DVD Converter it has an option for the nexus one but all the videos are choppy
Any one else experiencing this
If you are getting smooth playback on Converted videos please share your configuration..
Use handbreak, zero problems.
Best options have already been discussed, search.
If you use EncodeHD, there's a Nexus profile so you don't have to mess with any of the bitrate/resolution settings.

Can anyone recommend a ROM that can actually play videos? I've tried Nookie Froyo, HC, CM7 so far. Youtube works(on nookie) but not when trying to play MP4 H.264 encoded files (which work just fine on my stock nexus one).
Thanks!
It's not the ROMs, it's the limitations of hardware acceleration on the nook itself. For optimum playback video should be encoded in H.264 baseline at a resolution of 854x480 or less.
Look for a Handbrake preset thread on this forum for suggestions. Using a variant of that preset (except I use constant quality at 22) I have no issues playing encoded videos in the stock video player in both stock 2.1 and nookie froyo 0.6.8.

I can play 854x480 video on the "v16" of CM7 (2.3) which doesn't support hardware acceleration at all. Working on the "best" settings for this. Have a link to that thread?
use vitalplayer neon.
rockplayer seems to be a good one also.

Rockplayer gave me problems with sync and performance on CM7.

Does not work at all on CM7 (gingerbread incompatible at this time.)
What about Xvid/Divx files? Should I resize all my video files if I want to have good playback on the nook?
Just loaded Xboxexpert's BuildsFroyo 2.2 , everything seems to work just right except the video performance. I have a video I took with my G2x that won't even play , and a mp4 video that plays very choppy. Normally I would ask in the original thread but is has been closed.
Is there something else I can do to smooth out the video choppiness , maybe try a different rom....a better video player...
Please let me know
Try out Mobo Player Neon, but frankly, i would say ditch Froyo, and go with the more modern CM7 (Gingerbread). Support for Froyo is all but dropped, with all active devs (devs, not themers) working on Gingerbread or greater.
If you do go CM7, i still suggest MoboPlayer (with the Arm7Neon codec if needed)...

Hi ive tried searching thru google I know that definitely the su660 has official LG firmware that allows it to play 4.1 High Profile MKV.
My question is did LG ever release a firmware with the same ability to play Hi Profile 4.1 Mkv for the Optimus 2x p990 and which firmware is it?
Id like to stay with stock firmware before i try custom roms.
Even diceplayer has a condition on its app page that HW acceleration will depend on the firmware so Please point me to the right stock firmware as most of my mkvs are HP 4.1.
And my low power pc is not strong enough for re-encoding.
This is my first android phone so please be nice i really tried searching thru all the forums before posting this question.
this forum post gave me some hope but the question hasnt been answered till now.
I just need 720p HP 4.1

The playback for 720p HP H.264 is still crappy and laggy because of the Tegra 2 not supporting that profile in h/w decoding. I don't know if there exists any firmware, that can smoothly playback those files. The only thing that could perhaps speed up playback is overclocking the cpu.
Youtube videos in 720p, that can be played within the browser are extremely laggy.
720p can only be played on base profile not high profile4.1

As said above, you might want to try MX Video Player that has codecs specifically designed for tegra2, still it will be software decoding but with oc you can still play them in 720p.
not only mx video player, but mobo player has also additional codec
