I have a samsung i9000 with stock JF3 and had rooted and lag fixed it but was having problems downloading apps, paid at first then all downloads begun to fail.. Anyway I tried to use ODIN3 to re-flash the original firmware but to no avail!! I took the battery sim card and sd card out put the phone in download mode, Then started odin3 and connected the phone. Odin3 can see the port but just stays on analysing files... Have then disconnected and tried over and over and over... so many times I don't care to remember. It never gets passed the analysing files. It did fail twice, but that was something to do with samsung kies stealing the COM port (I think!!). Anyway thought I would try and update the firmware through samsung kies. But just get the unable to upgrade this firmware. Which I'm surprised at as most seem to have the option think its to do with my firmwares but not sure.
If anyone could shed light on this also it would be much appreciated!!
Code XXJF3, Modem XXJF3, CSC XENJF3
Anyway to the point of this topic. I Now want to just flash the new Firmware myself but am wondering, If I could not connect odin3 to re-flash the original firmware... Am I going to have problems re-flashing with downloaded firmware! Am thinking there's a great chance of bricking my phone. Doing it all in the correct order so dont understand why it wont connect!!!
Also is there another way/program I could use to flash my device???
You could try using Samsung Kies to install the JM1 official firmware

I did... I also wrote that in the thread!! Where I said it cannot be upgraded through kies!
Disconnect all usb devices except mouse and kb and try again. Best to use windows xp. A powered usb Hub helped me too. I think sgs drains too much power from usb ports

Thanks I shall try that!, got lots of USB's plugged in... I am on xp... If this does not work though, is there an alternative to ODIN3??? or am I stuck on stock JF3... As that would be unbearable.. no samsung update and cant do it myself!!!! I have noticed a few of the senior members do live in Holland, so I shall put it out there that if one of you nice dutch fella's who know's what your doing wouldn't mind having a look at my sgs for me I would be very much greatfull! Holland isn't the biggest of places so I would be willing to travel.... Thats how much I wanna get this sorted!!
Subject Solved
Well I have found the answer!!... Well for me anyway!
I was following the information everywhere as to how to put my SGS into downoad mode!: Volume up + home + Power button... I was assuming this was correct as it was loading up with an android menu with the following options: Restart phone, Update via update.zip, restore to factory settings. I thought while in this I was in download mode. No I wasn't!! LOL... God knows how many times I was trying to connect odin3 and to no avail. I have now found out if i press volume down + home + power button... walaaaa A big green android man doing what appeared to be some digging (Didn't stay on screen long) also with DOWNLOADING in huge green letters... I am now assuming this maybe download mode and I will have better joy attaching my SGS to odin now... If I am wrong someone may slap me in the face with a giant swordfish and leave me for the rats!
Hi I've tried searching and searching and I can't seem to find a one click download for UCKB1 like there is for JF6 or the leaked froyo.
Any ideas? I only ask because I'm trying to upgrade my friends phone using Kies Mini and it fails EVER single time. The phone freezes and boots into a white screen or a tan colored screen. However when I used the one click downloaders it works fine.
i dont think there is a one click for that... but you could use odin 1.7... its almost as simple to use
Hey there, i am feeling somewhat overwhelmed with all of the advice going on out there and need someone who can give me the answer to my specific problem hardware wise without breaking a sweat...
I flashed a froyo 2.2 rom onto my phone a while ago, recently all of my apps stopped working, and i could no longer install any apps.
Couple days ago i tried openning gmail and the screen went black and gave me the bzzzzzz...............................bzzz...bzzz...
vibrating error that you usually get when an app crashes.
Now the phone continues doing that even when booted up and stuff
It starts right after the S screen and repeats until the battery is removed.
My phone can't get into download or reset mode using the 3 button method so i bought a jig off of ebay, works like a charm.
however NOW, i cannot get the computer to see the phone; both when it is on and attached and in download mode and attached. Odin can't see it, neither can Kies.
If i can get either to see it, i can look up the flashing process to make sure everything is right.... but as of yet nothing i am doing is making a difference.
Thanks for any help
Ok, I'd focus on odin so disable Kies (in task manager processes - all the kies processes).
Then I would 1) reinstall the drivers (standalone ones) 2) Have a few versions of odin to try (like 1.3, 1.7 and ez odin) 3) Clean your usb port on the phone (and computer maybe too - whats the harm?).
Usually if you are sure the drivers are Ok then you should be able to odin working with a nice clean port. They are more sensitive to dirt/moisture or whatever than they should be.
Try that and let us know...
BTW Some people think that the order is important but I've never noticed that. I always have odin open and then connect it but cant hurt to try the other way around too.
Hey thanks alot,
I am at work right now but i am optimistic about trying that out lol.
Just so i know for when the time comes and if Odin works, what files do i need to flash it? .pit, .tar and anything else specific for Bell Canada?
I only ask because you are with Bell so it is probably a very simple answer for you. Otherwise I am sure i can find it elsewhere.
Thanks,
I'll keep you updated
Josh
Download the complete jl2 rom from link I posted yesterday (search my posts) with repartition ticked, then flash the kc1 rom from stock rom link on xda or at samfirmware.com and flash without repartition if you want the latest. You could just try the kc1 step but I you need to repartition.

Hey man,
my phone has never been sent in for repairs or replaced...
I was reading one of your other posts and you advised another member to send it in and maybe they will replace/update hardware?
I have still had my phone for less than a year so sending it in will be no problem at all...
Should i flash to the latest myself or return to stock and send it in?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks
Well he knows his is broken as he can see that his internal memory reads 0 (which means its cooked - ask me how I know...) and he was trying to fix it in a round about way. Or there was the guy who flashed a captivate rom - that was just a big no-no.
You might just have a corrupt partition or some other corruption in the file system. I seem to get that all the time and its a pain but very fixable .
Alright, sooo
-uninstall Kies
-install drivers only
-try to connect to Odin
-If succesful flash with Odin
-dance with joy
Got it, I will update you later when i get home.
Thanks
installed drivers on my work computer (32 bit windows xp) and nothing... I've tried phone off, phone on, phone in d/l mode... It doesn't pick up anything...
I can try it on my Windows 7 comp at home and see if that works but i'm wondering what the worst case scenario is just bringing into Bell and having them fix it... Am i looking at charges, warranty voiding, etc.. etc... to have it fixed or could i BS my way out of it?
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
pretty sure i flashed the wrong firmware on my phone, when it boots up it says GT-I9000 not GT-I9000M.
It worked fine for like 6 months so i never questioned it... damn damn damn
Not to be completely devious but i got an extended warranty that replaces the phone due to water damage, theft, etc. etc...
If there is no other way should i take advantage of that?
I would hate to jump to one of those actions but i am somewhat panicking becuase i made a super-noob mistake and effed up my phone....
I9000 firmware is completely compatible. The text you see is from the kernel which are always for i9000 unless you have one of the three bell firmwares. So that's not the issue.

I would keep trying. I have gotten warranty before and I was in the same predicament as you almost except I knew that the internal memory was dead. But that was also around the time when most of the I9000M models were dying. They might be checking more now.
If you get odin to flash a stock rom then you can go for it but by then you should be able to fix it.

Alright i will keep trying.
As far as the firmware goes, my gf and i both have the same phone, but she kept heres official and i put custom roms on mine (just the 2.2 because it wasn't available)
We are both on bell canada so i asked her to boot up her phone and the beginning message on hers says GT-I9000M so it freaked me out lol
I will try on my home computer,
keep your fingers crossed for me
Alright, so Odin can now see my phone (it was the damn cord, my Win 7 comp couldnt see it but my xp work laptop can)
Which firmware would you recomend flashing? Stock gingerbread or a slight variation?
I am at work right now so i can wait a bit for a good response. It'd really help me out if you could provide links and tips to the best firmware out right now (i have no problem flashing a custom ROM if it is good).
Thanks alot,
Josh
Succesfully Flashes Gingerbread 2.3.4
Thanks for all your help!!!
how did you manage to see it in odin?
i have te same problem with restarting just after first screen (after flashing to gingerbread) but i cant see it in odin so i cant flash it again?
when i connect it when turned off, a small icon appears with usb connected sound but its still not visible.
Is it maybe my win7?
help, anyone please
Did you start in Download mod? Did you kill the Kies processes in you Win7 task manager ?
If yes, sometimes Windows takes time to install the drivers (be sure ton be connected to the internet), you should also close and relaunch Odin.
i launched download mode with sdk, and now i cant start it.
i went to another pc with xp. it installs drivers but odin cant recognize it.
Well i did it on my work XP computer becuase WIN 7 wasn't recognizing it. But it turns out the whole time the cable i was using would connect to charge, but not act as a pc connection.
... and two buttons have different function; back and search.
i am from canada and have an unlocked galaxy s gt -i9000 (sgh-i896). its originally on rogers ut i use fido on it. it was rooted and running fine on froyo. then i think i stupidly upgraded with some wrong files. two buttons don't work and the computer will only recognize it as a memory stick when i have the micro sd in. it goes in to download mode, but the computer doesn't see it, in both oden and kies. i have tried with usb debugging. nada. the reception is horrible. im new to androids and have searched many forms. i keep getting close to the answer but its not for my device.
pda i9000xwjvz
phone i9000xxjvt
csc i9000oxajvt.
i searched around and found that the "i9000xxjvt" is for the uk captivate. seeing as i live in canada and this is a rogers phone i see this as being a possible problem?
i have done a factory data reset. no good. is there any way to update or downgrade so that i can start messing around with my phone again?
i hope you can help
See the Sticky Thread in the General Forum -- "Captivate Connection Issues..."
If that helps, then u can go to the "Stock Rom One Clicks" that is Stickied in the Development Forum and choose a stock to go back to.

The i9000 and the i896 are different phones. You can't simply flash files for the other one and expect them to fully work, unless they are made for that purpose. The i897-i896 is Captivate, i9000 is the Galaxy S.
Make sure you have Odin open first, then plug in. I recommend trying a one click back to stock

ive looked at many connection issue pages and no luck.
i've tried the 1 click a few times. im gonna try it again from another computer soon. hopefully that will help.
and im a little confused. on the back of my phone it says i896 and when i boot up it says gt-i9000? so how are they different?
**update
so im trying 1 click from a new computer and no good.
is there a way to reinstall an os from the memory stick?
U have an i896 phone that has a ported i9000 rom flashed on it.
That is all.
U may want to give Heimdall a try. It uses different drivers and so may work where Odin hasn't.

It actually sounds like he has an unported firmware. That's why the buttons don't work right. You also have different bootloaders. Download mode can be achieved by turning phone off (pulling the battery then replacing it is easiest way). Then hold volume down (not volume up and down) and plugging usb in. As for drivers, uninstall the drivers you have. Look in program files for a folder labeled Samsung and delete it. Restart your computer. Reinstall drivers. As said, Heimdall might be a better route to take since it uses a different driver.

You have a Rogers Captivate that has i9000 bootloaders on it. If you didn't flash them, then somebody else did before you bought it. I think you are trying to run unported i9000 ROMs. i9000 roms only work if somebody reorients the kernel and modifies a few parts of the ROM.
Anyway, download mode on i9000 bootloaders (from powered off state) is Vol down + USB. Then... well what do you want to put on it? Stock i896 Gingerbread?
yeah id like stock i896 gingerbread. i have no problem going in to download mode.
ill try heimdall and get back to you guys.
usoimon this
so i tried with hiemdall and tried to find my phone is zadig but no luck.
i can go in to download mode no problem. do i possibly have to get the i9000 driver for my computer. and if yes which one in particular?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351224
Read through that again. The same driver package should work for i896,i897, i9000.
Try a different cable, and make sure to use the proper usb port.
ive tried all my usb ports, new usb wire, different computers. ive followed may walk troughs. uninstalled and reinstalled a bunch of different driver packs.
phone goes in to download mode no problem every time. but both odin and heimdall don't recognize.
when the phone is powered up it goes in to usb mode and says connected but on the computer the usb doesn't see anything. no pop ups in the tray or anything.
id this a lost cause? am i missing something? im usually pretty good with this kind of stuff...
*update.
ive been reading all over the internet and have found that it may be a hardware issue. maybe happening randomly after i had installed the gingerbread.
is there a way that anyone would know of to update my firmware through wifi blue tooth or micro sd?
FIXXXXED!! woohoo
so i went to my brothers who sold me the phone and it worked immediately. i guess his computer remembered it. i dont know why nothing worked on my 3 computers with all the drivers and stuff that i tried. thank you for all the help.
Hey XDA, it's been a while. I tried to flash stock JF6 on my cappy last night and things went to hell.
The phone now only starts up for a forced download mode (inserting battery while holding volume buttons). When attached to Odin3-One-Click, it can begin the reset but crashes to a solid grey/pink/red screen when installing factoryfs.rfs, and then refuses to start up again for a couple of minutes. The previous ROM was cognition 4, I believe, alongside the CogKernel. I'm working with Windows 7 x64, which I understand can cause problems, but I don't really have a choice here.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung drivers from the official Odin3 thread, restarting between each step. I've tried changing USB ports. I've also tried to flash with Heimdall, but it only sees the device as "Gadget Serial" and can't work with it.
What do I try next? When the phone comes back to life I'll be trying Odin with compatibility mode, but I don't know what else to do. Please save me!
Are you flashing with or without bootloaders? If without, try flashing a stock rom with them.
Also, look in my signature for the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread. That has some additional things you might be able to try.

I'm using the Odin3 from DG's page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
I do not get to choose what installs, however, I have Odin3v1.85 Multi Downloader that allows me to select files. Could you link me to a ROM that I should use?

Ok, my question then would be - Bootloaders or no bootloaders? (I'm assuming I should go with bootloaders unless told otherwise)
EDIT: Bigger problem - the phone is taking longer and longer to recover from crashes. Last time I only waited a matter of minutes before it could get back to download mode, this time I've waited 20 and it still hasn't fixed itself.
U may have some hardware issues then.
But if it gets going u will need the GB Bootloaders in order to run GB.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
Damn, it's really unresponsive now. 50 minutes wasn't enough this time. I'm getting worried, I can't remember how many tries it took last night, and I really need my phone back. A failed flash during the transfer of factoryfs.rfs shouldn't hardbrick anything, should it?
Nope. That should not at all. Just a failure during the boot.bin and/or sbl.bin would cause a hard brick...or mismatched bootloaders between froyo and gb.
Which specific Odin3 one click did u use ?? Gotta link to it or the thread ??
BTW I haven't even tried GB yet. I'm still waiting for it to "cool down" from the last crash. I don't know why it's doing this now, since I had it in download mode an hour and a half ago and didn't crash it or anything.

I don't think it's the battery, though just before I flashed I had a 0% battery level erroneously detected.
UPDATE: The device is starting again, but now it only shows up in windows as "unknown device" and windows reports that it's malfunctioning. I'm restarting now.
Sorry for the double post, I think this is relevant though.
Now that the phone powers on to the download screen, I can plug it in to the computer but now receive an "Unknown Device!" error. Honestly this is just ridiculous, especially since I had no trouble transferring some of the Odin files. I'm downloading Puppy Linux now to see if Heimdall will pull me out of this.
UPDATE: The first time I started Heimdall on Linux it was able to detect the phone, but failed after the LOKE handshake part. Now it no longer sees the phone. I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with the USB port, even though it worked fine for file transfers just 2 days ago.
UPDATE 2: Good news everyone! The same linux install on a different laptop was able to see the device, and Heimdall could get all the way to "rebooting device" using the cyanogenmod kernel. However, the CM package doesn't seem to include bootloaders, so I can't actually start up the phone after downloading. I just realized that 4-2 also linked to Heimdall compatible bootloaders, so I'll be trying those now.

UPDATE 3: It turned out the problem was with the first laptop's USB setup. Every port is attached to an internal replicator, which I believe was the problem. I hooked it up to an old Toshiba and the Heimdall version of UCKK4 installed flawlessly. Now I'm running CM9 and it's amazing. Thanks 4-2ndtwin!
