[Q] usb tethering hack for the tmobile HD7 - HD7 General

Does anyone expect a usb tethering hack for the tmobile HD7 in the near future
Thanks

tethering
try this link.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922000

so as far as you can tell this will work on the tmobile HD7

I tried that. After about an hour of surfing I got a text from tmobo telling me connection sharing has been disabled unless I pay for it. I'm assuming the can detect it.

any hope for wifi calling?

I briefly had a HD7 and really liked it. I sold it off to go with a MyTouch 4G which is also a nice phone. I prefer the Windows 7 to Android but made the switch because my only hope for making calls is using TMobile's wifi calling app which works extremely well for me. Is there some sort of app that would work with with Windows 7? I wouldn't care if I needed to use a different number or pay a small monthly fee. Is there any hope? If yes I would buy another HD7 soon.
thanks,

How to use a regular tmobile sim card?

hi everybody
does anybody no how i can use my samsung vibriant tmobile sim card with my dell streak 7 been trying for a couple of days no go!!!
thanx!
Not Android Development
Please Post in the Correct Forums Thanks
Moving to General
Did you ever figure this out? I'm trying to do this. If I unlock it can I use the SIM from my Vibrant?
Even if you could, you won't get data on it. I tried the smartphone data plan on my dell streak 7 and it logged on to the internet but the only page i could get was an error page telling me i had the wrong data plan.
I would love to get the smartphone data plan on it. It includes roaming. It sucks having a dell streak to use the internet just to end up tethering with my hd2 because it's a worthless brick when i travel.
Yeah I had to convert my plan

DITTO. using same sim card as my sidekick, but it had to be converted to the web connect plan. Don't see what the complaining is, for me it's actually cheaper.

Question regarding the new "Unlimited" plan

I was a little excited to hear about the introduction of the new "Unlimited" data plan starting tomorrow. However, upon further perusion, I've discovered a screenshot and confirmed it with both of my local T-Mo store managers. This plan cannot be combined with hotspot/tethering option.
So my question is this: Will there be a workaround for this? Or do I have to stick with my current plan? I hit the 10gb cap within 2 weeks, because in this rural area, I use my phone as my general internet. :\

i'm tethering it right now and i'm on the new truly unlimited data plan. I had to set it to samsung gs2 as that was the closest related phone on the list that worked. generic ics or auto didn't work. i had to install the apk and re install it for it to work. then it took some playing with to get it to connect, but it works now. you can get it here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850972 just a heads up though. I wouldn't go crazy with your internet. any indication that you are tethering and tmobile could do a number of things. read the fine print as this would be a violation of your contract.

unfortunately...
my phone is rooted with the stock rom and although tethering and wifi do work.....it's blocked by tmobile. you can get away with wifi tethering for a few minutes, then you'll get a text from tmobile with a link to "upgrade" to a plan that allows this feature. I've tried both usb tethering and wifi tethering which end in the same result

I upgraded to the new unlimited plan..... I've used "FoxFi" 2 or 3 times for tethering my Galaxy Tab 7.... T-Mobile hasn't seemed to catch on yet (stock/unrooted Note)

[Q] Portable Hotspot free (AT&T)?

Hi guys,
So today i was playing with the settings menu and decied to try out the mobile network sharing. I know that you have to have specific data plan to get tethering (which I dint have) but I decided to give it a shot anyways. To my surprise, the hotspot worked flawlessly and I was able to connect to my tablet using my One's mobile data. I tried to setup tethering on my sister's iphone 5 who has the same plan but got prompted to call At&t to add qualifying plan. Do any of you guys with AT&T get free hotspot as well or am I wrong in thinking that its gonna be free? I would hate to get billed for using it without a qualifying data plan.
Btw, my one is rooted, S-off, and running ARHD 11.5.
I can't say for sure because I didn't try this feature before I put ARHD 11.5 on my new HTC One (just yesterday in fact), but I think you are able to do that for free because you have ARHD installed. One of the advantages, AFAIK, to putting a custom ROM on your phone is to enable tethering without having to go through your carrier. This was one of the reasons I put a custom ROM on my HTC EVO when I was with Sprint at least. I didn't think it was right for the carrier to dictate how I could use my phone when tethering is a feature inherent to most smartphones, but just walled off by carriers as an additional way to nickel and dime users.

Yeah since you got rid of the AT&T software, they have no way on the phone's end to know if you're using the hotspot. Unfortunately the iPhone is a little more restrictive and I don't know of any way to get around it, although there may be. I would be careful though, if they detect that you're using data too quickly they can add the hotspot feature to your plan. It's happened to me before.

Tethering - Your Carrier Knows and May Charge You

Just wanted to report a recent experience.
I was in the Netherlands, using an Italian Vodafone SIM on a US Play Store purchased Nexus 5.
I decided to try the native tethering. It worked. However, I also immediately received an SMS from Vodafone telling me I was using data outside my plan, and my account was debited 6 Euro for a couple of seconds of updating the NY Times on my Nexus 7 via tether.
So beware - even if your carrier does not block tethering, the Nexus 5 somehow reports that tether. It was not just packet inspection here, as the Nexus 7 tablet presumably uses the same type of data as the phone.

Not here in USA on at&t. Been doing it for years ..... as long as u use it just as a internet connection your fine ... If u start using a lot of data then yes they will send u a warning .
Since 4.2 carriers have been able to see when you're tethering.
Unfortunately I don't know a way around it, though thankfully my carrier simply blocks my internet for 30 minutes when it detects tethering

• Stock ROM
• Faux Kernel
• Lots of Xposed Mods
Previous Devices: Motorola DEFY, HTC Sensation
Yeah, my S4 works fine, but when I use my N5 it detects it,, I am also on AT&T
I'm using a1 Austria network (5gb internet limit) and I don't seen this. I used tethering (150mb) and not received anything about it from my network. I don't understand why they charge more when you already paid for your internet in your phone. This is insane..

Anyone know what the mechanism they added in 4.2 for reporting tethering to carriers is?
Is there an Xposed module that disables it, or are there custom ROMs with this "feature" disabled?
im from italy, with wind mobile I never had problems with thetering because they just simply allow it! 10gb per month at 12euros.
perfect for working on the go with my pc and phone as modem.
my suggest is to look for companies that allow it at good prices, and not keep contracts with thefts that dont.

i wished i had unlimited LTE cap! i only get 6gb with tethering allowed on rogers LTE network in toronto, canada, i'd gladly pay 100-150 bucks a month for UNLIMITED LTE, i'd cancell my home internet( which is 45Mb/s unlimited for around 70bucks cdn.

There are ways just not sure I can list them here. Do a search online and you will find some.
I think some ROMs might turn off the feature but not sure which ones do this.
Wifi Tether Router, in the Play Store. Developer is Fabio Grasso.
I think you can circumvent with iptables, I saw it on a HTC One X thread.

This worked for me
Check out the last post on this page (and then read from there). This fixed Tmo's tethering detection for me.

Having had a very close friend try this successfully on ATT in North America, I can also vouch for it working. I don't know how truly secure it really is, however, this person has never had an issue.
On AIO network
I am on AIO wireless , before I switch from iPhone to Nexus 5. The Personal Hotspot feature is remove from my iPhone and I switch to Nexus 5 , few days ago I was trying the Tethering on my phone and so far no SMS or call from my provider saying about my tethering.

The carrier can choose to do what it wants with the information. However, it seems clear that the carrier gets the information that tethering is taking place with the Nexus 5.
Thought this was common knowledge, not hard for carriers to detect tethering even if the OS doesn't tell them - packets have to be routed. Some choose to deal with it, some don't.
Don't see why people take the risk - £15 in the UK for an unlimited plan with tethering.

A lot of people here don't live in the UK, and don't have the option of paying just 15 for tethering. Most places in the states charge an arm and leg for tethering, and it's usually limited to a few hundred megs.

I don't know that it is common knowledge that the phone somehow tells the carrier. I think that many of us assumed there was packet inspection, but given that I was tethering a Nexus 7 this appears to be something different.

I said I thought it was common knowledge the carriers could tell when you're tethering, not that the phone tells them. They don't have to wait for an OS that tells them when there's a device other than the connected one transmitting data through it. Your phone is, for all intents and purposes, routing packets. They don't even need to inspect the packets, there's numerous ways to see that data didn't originate at the device they should.

I switched carrier exactly because of this, VodafoneIT is as far as I know the only big Carrier in italy that charges for tethering. I switched carrier because of this sh*t. They made me pay 4 Euro every day I tried to use Tethering...
and now I can happily confirm that WIND and TRE don't charge anything.
As Vodafone is now charging 19,- € for switching plans, my advice is, switch carrier.
