I'm having issues with phanton touches or not detecting touches. Been this way in froyo and cm7
Here are some of the responses I've seen for this issue:
* bad charger or Nook; fix by unplugging charger while using (no one has ever said if this is a software or hardware bug)
* dirty screen; clean it
* temperature and humidity can affect the screen; don't go outside

Since day one, I've had touchscreen issues. When the charger is plugged in, the keyboard is unusable. One touch triggers keys all over the place faster than I could ever touch the screen. Unplugging the charger fixes that issue.
After a while, phantom presses start happening. If an app supports multitouch zoom, it becomes impossible to scroll instead of zooming. Keeping the screen clean seems to delay the problem from happening. If the problem presents, just cleaning the screen won't help. I have to turn the display off and back on for any effect. I've heard putting on a screen protector helps with this issue, but I haven't had a chance get one. If the screen protector just masks the issue, that doesn't seem like a good fix.
Should I try to get a replacement Nook Color now that doesn't have these issues or should I wait until the last month of my warranty to see if I can get more developed hardware? There doesn't seem to be a consensus if these issues are hardware or software.

That must be frustrating. Mine does not behave this way at all (though I've only had it for 4 days). If you bought it in the store, I'd exchange it. If you bought it via the BN ebay store, I'd try the screen protector first as I hear it's quite an ordeal returning it via ebay.
This us a very common issue. It has something to do with sensitivity of the screen increasing greatly when the unitbis charging or the screen brightness is way up. I just chage mine at night and don't worry about it.
I was having a lot of problems with phantom touches -- I even replaced my 2nd NC just to get another one that had the same issue. I ended up putting on a B&N anti-glare screen protector and haven't witnessed any phantom touches since then.
Edit: I actually meant to post this in the other phantom touches thread. ;/
Happens a lot to me even while unplugged. Known issue. Until I pick up a B&N screen protector I find locking the device and a quick wiping of the screen with a microfiber or any soft cloth (my shirt works in a pinch) removes moisture and oil build-up that is causing the uber-sensitive digitizer to register phantom touches.

Hi,
Last week I used to be outside with much rainy condition.
Though it never got totally under water, many times it's screen got wet with substantial rain drops.
Slowly, phone started misbehaving with following symptoms,
1. Around 10% of left side of touch screen doesn't show response. I enabled show touches from developer option and when I try to touch left side, say "a" letter in keyboard, it doesn't show touches and pointer jumps immediately to left edge.
2. Many times, I am not able to unlock phone as no touch are detected.
3. After unlock, many times though I am not touching phone, it shows couple of pointers (I enabled show touches in developer option to trace this) on left edge. It keeps moving resulting in erratic behavior, say screen zooms in and out, some icons clicked automatic, deleted automatic etc.
4. Sometimes I noticed that capacitive buttons are also not responding.
For all above, I have to off (not complete switch off)and on the phone. After few attempts, it becomes responding except point 1 above.
I have reflashed ROM (Vivikat) just to ensure it's not software issue.
Now it seems hardware issue with following two possibilities...
1. It's matter of some moisture in phone only. I have to try hard to dry out all moisture and phone will become responding.
2. Digitizer has some issue and may call for replacement (I don't want to do that...:crying.
Can you guys share your views/experience and advise?

I just had touch screen issues but not with water or rain. It was the CPU. Almost whenever I overclocked it, I had touch screen issues. Both misbehaving and not behaving at all. Change the CPU frequency and restart the phone and see what happens. :good:

Thanks for your reply.
I have never overclocked my device.
However, I tried to underclocked it if by any chance, it can solve the issue.
But issue still there.
A small portion of left column on touch screen seems not responding or giving erratic behavior.
Does, water can damage digitizer to that extent that can not be recovered even after drying
Or, I should keep hope and wait more before I go for digitizer replacement

If the digitizer is damaged, it is probably done. But if you can open the open, check the digitizer and see if there are any things stuck on it. My recommendation: ask an engineer to open it and clean it with the special spray they use to clean electronic parts. Maybe the water has had only a side effect and it will be fixed by cleaning the digitizer.

Thanks.
I loved to hear your words, as I have still hope for resolving issue without replacement of digitizer :fingers-crossed:
I'll find some engineer to get it serviced....and post update.

You're Welcome buddy! :highfive:
Hello XDA Community!
So, I searched the forums for smart-cover support on the Nexus 6 and have thus uncovered the magnetometer location (around where the clock is displayed on the lock screen).
Now, I "hacked" together my own smart cover with a tiny neodymium magnet but noticed that the phone does not wake up upon opening the cover [the first time]. It locks alright but it only ever wakes up after TWO magnetometer events. That is, I have to open the cover, close it and re-open again. It's not an issue with the magnet being too weak or anything since the screen locks correctly with 100% reproducibility at around 5mm distance. It also UNlocks reliably but always only after the second attempt.
I tried different kernels for what it's worth just to see if it was a problem with e.g. franco's (which I'm using) but it's the same everywhere (Lean Kernel, Elemental X, Stock).
Anybody experienced similar issues?
Anyone noticed something similar?
Sometimes when unlocking phone with the unlock button or by double tapping it wakes up but is unresponsive to touch, the brightness alters with random intervals, wallpaper flickers. The phone becomes usable again after a few locks and unlocks with the button , although very rarely but still sometimes it automatically locks itself after unlocking.
Factory reset didn't help and before that I was using all the latest updates.
Is this a problem on the hardware side?

Pretty sure mine is. It started with similar issues and has only gotten worse. Flexing the phone a bit makes the screen go all wonky and it's the only way I can get it to come on/become responsive. I will more than likely have to send it in to Sony. Ugh.
Sent phone in
Received back with the following itemized work:
Action: part (s) replaced
Part Description:
Front Cover Assy Green
Screw Len: 2.0 Diam: 1.4
Screw Other Len: 3.0 Diam: 1.4
Screw Other Len: 3.0 Diam: 1.4
Screw Other Len: 3.0 Diam: 1.4
Shield Camera
Screw Len:3.2 Diam:1.2
Screw Len:3.2 Diam:1.2
Cap USB Sub Assy Green
Cap SIM Sub Assy Green
Panel Side Charger Green
Window Back Sub Assy Green Row
Idk wth all that means. Some of it I can guess at...but for a phone that was treated rather gingerly...to have behaved in such a manner after X amount of months (7, I think it was, before stuff started going wonky) w/out the screen being cracked or damaged in any way...the answer is lost on me! Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

I don't know if this is normal for this device, but I've been having some fairly unbelievable problems with this touch screen. Symptoms:
- Seems to randomly fail to register single taps somewhat often
- Occasionally stops responding to all touches for several seconds
- Touch event location is often skewed (usually down or right, I think) by anywhere from 1-10mm, seemingly at random. Sometimes it will be off by several cm.
- Multitouch events will frequently cause one of he touch events to happen averaged between two touch points.
- Nonuniform calibration? This manifests as seemingly-random sensitivity changes when dragging, or the touch circle skewing differently depending on where I tap.
I've observed the locations by turning on touch points in the dev options; Rooted, S-OFF, 3.4.0-public-v1+rbheromax kernel
I'm not even using this as my daily phone (too big and the screen kind of blows anyway), but I do use it for games and it's infuriating when these things come up suddenly while I'm playing. Is this a deficiency of cheap hardware (resolution too low for the size of the screen) or is it a software problem that can potentially be fixed?
