Hello, I was just wondering if someone could fill me in as to how to apply an ext filesystem to my telus milestone running CM7. Also which one is the best and how to apply it.
Thanks!!!

CM7 will automatically recognize that you have an ext partition and mount it.
Most people create an ext2 partition, but I don't know what the differences are so I just stuck with ext2 and it works wonders.

Thank you very much! I will try that, but I am still curious as to how to get ext4 working. I tried the steps in that link, but they only work for ext2. Any suggestions anyone?

Alright, so I did the ext2 thing, and it worked, but I rebooted, and my phone doesn't recognize it anymore Its definitely still there, but my milestone cannot read it for some reason... help?

What do you mean it doesn't recognize it? Have you looked in /sd-ext or /system/app?

I mean that that folder is gone, and all my apps don't show up anymore, but when i check on my computer, its there and so are all the apps. I re-installed CM7 and didn't apply any scripts, and it appears to be working, so hopefully it sticks when I reboot.
Update: It does not stay when rebooted Any suggestions?

Did you follow sileshn's guide to the T? I did it that way and got it to work perfectly fine. If you're still stuck, post your issue in the CM7 thread in Development.

Did you make sure that you had fat32 followed by ext2? Also, both have to be primary partitions.
I have also provided the link to convert your ext2 to ext3/ext4.

Yes I did. And it works, but only for the initial boot, then after reboot, its back to no ext2. I don't think its loading a script to mount it at boot, or maybe something gets erased, I don't know. I've made a post in the CM7 discussion. Thanks for the help!

Well, it could be because there is a script which checks for sdcard errors before it mounts the sdcard. So if there is any error, it will not mount the sdcard, hence you will not see the apps installed on the sdcard.
But why it works the first time and not later is still beyond me.
You could try formatting your card again.

Scripts are there in /system/init.d folder.
06mountsd checks for sdcard errors and mounts the sdcard if no errors are found.
07app2ext actually moves the apps to ext partition.

What rom are you using.
the dudes 1.2rc2
Personally I'd recommend switching over to Cyanogen's ROM...its blazing fast and Apps-to-SD it automatically incorporated as long as you have an ETX2/EXT3 partition on your micro sd card...by the way, DO you have the second partition? Because if you dont, that could be whats causing your problem
yea i repartitioned using the app it said it was creating an ext2

I agree that switching to Cyanogen's is the easiest way to go. You'll just need to format the ext2 then flash the rom.
so when the app told me it was kaing an ext2 it didnt?
or should i just use cyan rom and try the appstosd again

I'm not sure, but cyanogen has included modifications to make A2SD more stable, less chance of corruption. I think you're ext2 partition is corrupt, but ext3 is better anyway. So the best way to go is format the card in your phone and add an ext3 partition yourself, NOT using the app. then wipe and flash the rom.

It sounds like you are using apps2sd2 if that is the app you are using to create the partition. If you are using apps2sd2 to move your apps that is your problem. That is why they said not to use that app cause its a different method that doesn't work well. If I were you create the partition yourself using any of the methods on here (I like using ubuntu, there is a tuturial in my sig) then move the apps with apps with apps2sd1.
thanks i tried cyan rom and it did it automatically
Hello guys!
I have a Milestone and I'm using the CM6 ROM from milaq which is pretty good!
It has the scripts to make App2Ext works built in: 05mountsd and 07app2ext.
I partitioned my sd card like this: 6 GB to FAT32 and 2 GB to EXT3.
Just this and everything works, because I saw the "/sd-ext" in the ES Explorer. When I installed some apps at "Internal Memory", this apps appeared inside the "/sd-ext" folder.
But, some things seems to be strange for me:
1. When I went to "Seetings > SD card & phone storage > Internal phone storage", the "Total space" doesn't change. I mean, the "Total space" from "Internal phone storage" continued with 197MB like before activate App2Ext. Is this right? The space from ext partition shouldn't be understood as "Internal phone storage"?
2. The phone seems more unstable. I had some reboots when I was installing some apps and sometimes some widgets doesn't load. Is it normal?
3. My method is it ok? Just to create the ext partition. Should I make some other things?
Thanks!

That's probably becoz dalvik-cache is moved to ext partition as well. Milaq's CM6 uses CM7 app2ext which leaves dalvik cache in internal memory and only moves data apps to ext partition.

I need your help guys: For the first time I need to install many apps and the 190MB aren't enough. So I wanted to use apps2ext. Since I've never used it before I don't know where to start. (Format card, what to install then, if any scripts are needed, etc.)
Is there any guide somewhere?

You don't need to do anything. The rom has app2ext built-in. You just need to create the ext partition.
Also note that CM7 based roms don't move the dalvik-cache to ext partition. You need to modify the script to do it. I have posted a modified script for that in the same thread. Check the last 2 pages.

Thanks,

Any idea? I have 2 partitions on the ext SD card, both primary, size aprox. 15 GB each... One of them is FAT32, the second one is EXT4. I tried formated the second partition with EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, FAT32... always the same error... Thanks for help
Hmm... this is interesting, it looks like many users are reporting this same error. Sorry about that!
I haven't installed it yet, as I added in my edit above, but I'll give it a try later on and see what I find.
Edit: if you want to move Gameloft files, then there's also GL to SD which is reported to work (but then again, so was the one I suggested above ).

App2SD won't work since the only thing it does is inform you that an app can be moved to SD and present you with a shortcut for that action - it's not compatible with Android 4.0 and above since Google disabled the feature. You can only use it in previous versions where the option is accessible from the app's screen anyway.
If you're really anxious, then there's also DirectoryBind and a nifty tutorial here to test.

That's really weird. It's not supposed to happen. Though I have had some issues like that, it's because you know some parts of the app stay in the internal memory of the phone, they have to be manually moved to the SD over time. Since it's a really small amount of storage that that part of the app takes, it really shouldn't be a problem. But since you have a lot of them installed, you're gonna have to manually move the apps to the SD.
Use Titanium Backup and batch move the heaviest apps you have to the SD and it'll work normally.

Sorry, I'm just having no luck getting the fixed IN2EXT4+ to work on an international galaxy ace. the script creates a file in the init.d folder, as opposed to the unfixed version, but it still doesn't mount or recognise the ext partition on the SD card. I've followed your guides very closely, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
after each attempt, i start from scratch (clean ROM install), and yet I keep failing ;/
I partition using CWM recovery 5, so does that create an ext4 partition or 3/lower?

Hello, I am new to SD-ext and Link2SD and such things, I googled around a little and found the most suitable solutions for the internal memory shortage of CM10.1 is either Link2SD or INT2EXT+
Now I want to ask, which is better at performance, more stable?
I would have went around experimenting as they say but the problem is that I don't know how to remove either of them, so please tell me that too, so if I didn't like one of them I remove it and try the other.
That's all for now, thanks in advance!
I would suggest int2ext, because effectively it increases the size of your internal storage instead of moving apps to sd. As long as you have a class 10 or better sd, you won't notice any difference in performance.

You can still use int2ext, but you will get a quite noticeable performance decrease. Just test it! To remove just go to system/etc/init.d, then you can just remove its files.

I actually tried Link2SD (With a EXT4) but it didn't read or create a script. I googled, people said use EXT2, so I just said, since it didn't work, let's try INT2EXT.
I flashed it (without removing Link2SD) and nothing changed...
I, just now, removed Link2SD and restarted: no changed.
What do you advice me to do? ((I think the problem is because this ROM doesn't support EXT4, but I am not sure of course))

Int2ext needs ext 4. After removing link2sd, you should reposition your sd to ext 4. And which Rom you have? Because current ones are all sporting init.d, so they support sdext.

Int2ext needs ext 4. After removing link2sd, you should reposition your sd to ext 4. And which Rom you have? Because current ones are all sporting init.d, so they support sdext.

I have CM10.1 Lastest nightly. What do you mean by reposition your SD to EXT4? You mean to create a EXT4? (I already have one)

Oh, so you think that update will work? I will try it now.
EDIT: Nothing new: After reinstalling it and choosing EXT4 it still say "Mount script cannot be created"
NEW EDIT: I apologise, I now know where did the error come from, I stupidly enough installed an EXT3 instead of EXT4.
Link2sd work fine with me on CM7 or CM10.1
On your cm7 you should set allow installing data on sd card and in settings of link2sd should be set on automatic
Ext2 on link2sd work fine with me

in some devices, even If your partition is of ext2 or 3., it mounts it as ext4 itself
so while using link2sd try recreating mount script as ext4

Would you mind writing me a little guide of what you did to install it on CM10.1?
(I will try EXT2 if everything you have done I tried.)

Well, seems I should really change it from EXT4 to 2, I guess that's what I will try.
Thanks everyone so far! :good:
Since you have the latest CM10.1 nightly.. I suggest u try this..
Take a complete back up of your SD card.
Make sure u have uninstalled any apps and removed any scripts related to link2sd and such scripts. (When there's any doubt whether the old scripts would cause any problem, i always prefer wiping the device and freshly installing the rom to avoid any mistakes)
If u do not have any problem flashing the ROM again, i really suggest u to do so and then do the below steps. Definitely should work.
Reboot into recovery mode.
Go to advanced option and select SD partitioning option
Select the partition size as 1024mb and swap size as 0mb.
Proceed with partitioning.
Reboot your device.
Save fixed-int2ext+ for android 4.2..1 by CronicCorey on the root of your SD card..
Boot into recovery again.
Go to mounts and storage option and mount data, system and sd-ext.
Go to install zip from SD card.. Choose zip from SD card.. Select the int2ext+ script.
After installation.. Go to mounts and storage and unmount data and system and format sd-ext.
Now reboot the device and check.. It'll be done.
I have done this many times and it's worked. I use 16gb class 4.. No issues.. Smooth for me..
After installing this script.. Make sure u dont wipe dalvik cache using recovery mode. Your device will get into boot loop.. Use wipe dalvik cache script specifically created for int2ext by croniccorey..
