Howdy folks,
Just had a bit of an adventure with my milestone replacing the screen, unfortunately, I dropped it when putting it back together and accidently snapped the ribbon cable connecting the speaker and microphone to the mainboard/chassis.
Anyway, I just bought a faulty CDMA droid on ebay (won't power on), because I know the chassis itself (where the broken bit is), is the same.
I was thinking though, if it's just the mainboard on the droid that's fried, how would I go just replacing it with the one from my milestone? are there actually any hardware differences between the two apart from the modem/antenna being different?
Any responses would be appreciated,
Hobo
Should be the same I think...
You can find the exact comparison between the hardware of the Milestone and Droid on And-Developers.

So, after replacing my flex due to a broken power button, I seem to have broken the LCD-connection on the mainboard itself. The screen is going black, so that is definately the problem and I will need to replace the mainboard itself (not the flex)... Couldn't find it anywhere for less then 200 dollars, but i have found a mainboard for a HTC Desire thats cheap. I know they are very similair, with pretty much the same hardware.
The question is, will it fit the Nexus one and work??
From pictures they sure look the same, but there might be issues on the software side with the different buttons/trackball.
Even if it works, if you have a AWS N1, you'll lose 3G after the swap.
Edit: When looking for a flex board, I saw some sellers claim the same board worked for both phones.
Thanks, but what if i flash a Nexus one ROM onto the Desire motherboard, wont that fix the capacitive/hardware button problem??
And i think my Nexus is from Hong Kong, for some reason the manuals are in chinese even though the phone is in english..

Why dont you just buy a new phhone? Nexus is 150$ Or just upgrade to other phone, nexus is not worth spending more money on.
You're right, the thing is that i live in the UK, so in September 2011 i go and buy the nexus for 200 pounds brand new with a 16gb memory card etc... after two months of usage the power button broke down, so i bought a new flex, which caused me to break the lcd connector. So, since i havent used it that much i don't really want to throw it away, since it is still brand new... and the motherboard i found is very cheap. It's cheaper than the flex or AMOLED... So i might as well.
So today my D3 was acting up with the brightness of the Screen and then it would only come on after messing with the screen by sliding it in and out until i came on and i had to leave it in that exact position or it would go black again.
Then my D3 wouldnt come on at all no matter what i did so i took the battery out and held the power button until i heard the boot animation. After awhile i noticed that it started getting very warm or at least i felt it was.
And well now the phone will not make any sounds or movement and no lights come on at all except the charging LED when i plug it in.
unfortunetly the phone is out of warranty and i dont have Insurance so im pretty much screwed which i guess is fine because its rooted and moded with Steel Droid 3.0 and I couldnt download the Stock Rom Zip.
Any ideas?!?
Can anyone help me?!?
Any similar experiences?!?
Could it be the Battery or is it the LCD is fried?!?!?
The only way to fix this is to unlock the bootloader!
I doubt the bootloader has anything to do with it. It sounds like a hardware problem, possibly the ribbon cable for the screen coming loose. If that is the problem you could try taking the phone apart to see if it is loose and disconnect and reconnect it to see if that helps.
Sounds like the flex cable connecting the two halves of the phone has failed. All you need to do is to have it replaced. You can find replacement online - eBay/etc and do it yourself if you are comfortable taking the phone apart. It is not super difficult.

I agree it sounds like a failed flex. Unfortunately it's a pricy cable, as it has all of the front sensors attached to it. I have seen a few places online that sell them. If anyone finds them cheap, share here, I have a couple D3s with bad flex cables in my bad phone pile.
Best bet is to sell the dead phone, and buy another. People may still pay a few hundred for a non working D3

Sounds like you are going into emg mode e.g. vol up and power.
If the phone is off and you plug it into your computer do you get the charging screen?
Follow-Up Needed from Original Poster
My nephew owns an LG THRILL 3D P925 from AT&T. He dropped it and broke the digitizer resulting in huge spider cracks. So, for his birthday I decided to be a great uncle purchase a digitizer online.
I received a P920 replacement digitizer. I was told this would be compatible with the phone by the company I purchased it from.
Everthing went really well with the digitizer replacement as the process was pretty easy. However, when I attempt to power on the phone, I get a vibration with zero activity from the LCD.
At first I thought that I somehow ripped the LCD cable or the digitizer cable; however, after close inspection, I do not see any flaws in either cables or their respective connection points.
I too feel like the phone is stuck in download mode. I wish I knew if the original poster has resolved their issue, and I would not mind continuing the discovery process on how to fully troubleshoot this with you John if you would oblidge. I did not think it would be beneficial for me to start a new thread considering I am experiencing the exact same issue as the OP.
Thanks in advance for any assistance from Anyone!
Bump..
Should I just start my own post?
I don't think another post would get anymore attention

I work in a computer store where we replace lots and lots of screens and digitizers....it is not unheard of to get a bad one......I have seen at least three this year.....
I have two Nexus One, of of them with a broken power button.
I already bought two flexes from eBay, but none of them worked in either phone.
Is there a catch or they're just bad?
Can somebody tell me if there's any other trusted place from where I can get a flex?
Sorry for that .. i have two Nexus One phones too and i fix the power button by this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY3us4w9GL8
Thank you fancyfree.
I know how to do it, the only problem is that the two flexes that I got didn't work.
The flex from the phone that's working, works perfectly in both phones, that's why I'm saying that the replacement flexes that I got are faulty.
so I blew out my microphones on the phone with some compressed air, and completely destroyed them both. I took the phone apart and ordered a new daughter board for $75 bucks. Now here is the issue, the new daughter board doesn't have an antenna cable connector that is located next to the volume rocker side, like the original one did. if you look on ifixit or even youtube teardown videos the daughter board is different than the one I had originaly.
My thoughts are I had a first generation daughter board?
I don't need this cable anymore?
does anyone know what this antenna cable is really for?
the phone works fine... other then the front facing camera doesn't work anymore. and I haven't tried the Bluetooth.
please help lol

You disassembled the HTC one? Respect...
Well, I don't know if there are different hardware revisions, but I'd just say that the sprint version uses different hardware.
It isn't exactly unusual that us carrier versions of a phone have different internal hardware.
You should try finding an appropriate daughter board for your device.
