[Q] A Rhetorical Question: Should I Buy The 2X? - LG Optimus 2x

Thats right people, i just made the million dollar question. As a quick background, ive owned an ETEN X500 (terrible phone), an HTC TD2 (ridiculous newton rings issues) and up until a few days i was a proud owner of an Acer Liquid E, which was, with the help of some geniuses up at modaco, an amazing handset which had cost me only about 280 euros more than a year ago. Due to a terrible car accident (from which i miraculously survived almost intact) the Liquid fell into the sea and, well, thats all with that. As you can tell im not into paying incredible money for a phone, since i hate contracts (pay-as-you-go is the future lol), so id rather save up and pay for an unlocked device. I have found a pretty good deal on the Optimus 2X, about 380 Euros, which i consider great for a dual-core device, but as i keep on reading page after page here, im quite shocked on the amount of issues this phone has. The screen bleeding is really nothing new for an IPS LCD display, ive seen it b4 and im sure ill see it again, and its only noticeable in extreme situations (full brightness, black background and nothing else) so im not so much worried about it. The lag/freeze/reboot situation is a completely different issue of course. There are so many people experiencing these problems that one may think that the 2X is a faulty device by design, but im still not totally convinced about it. Are we seriously talking about bad HW here, or is there any substantial hope of getting a holy-grail-type SW fix? I know that this has been talked over again and again and i have already read more than 50 pages on that, so my question goes more to the people that have done serious research on the issue and could, possibly, have a more global view on it. The phone does have all im lookin for on a device: dual-core CPU, LCD display (S-AMOLED burn-in? no thanx), HDMI, 1080p video, affordable.. But having lots of doubts, as expected.
Anyways, any thoughts/replies would be very welcome.
PS Even if i dont end up buying the phone, good luck to the owers
Peace

Buy it, root it, install CM7 on it, most issues would be gone. Gingerbread also slated to come soon. This is a value for money phone imo.

The freeze problem I think are not on every device. I think that some countries do not have this prohlem at all. Like here in Slovakia I read a lot of reviews and people reviews, and no one was affected by this problem. So I bought it too, and never this problem never happened so far. So... you make a conclusion

Buy the phone, The bang for buck is high regarding performance. Screen is good and if you lucky like me almost no back bleeding. The phone itself has a solid build and you get the Quality feel when you hold it. Camera is good and HD recording as well.
I only had the random reboot issue at the begging but with the latest Update its better now, has occurred but not that often like 1 in a month or something. Lags sometimes when installing apps or the F-secure is doing its thing.
Overall i'm happy with the phone, Just wished that LG put more ram and faster NAND. However don't get me wrong the phone doesn't bottleneck because of this performance wise. If i where you and wanted powerhouse that's cheap then the 2x is for you.
Also note that i run Stock ROM froyo, think with GB things will get better.
A tip if you get it change the launcher right away or put another ROM(CM7 or Modaco if you ask me, also check out MIUI) and Kernel.
(Haven't done it myself cause of lack of time, need to start exploring Android dev wise. Used to work with Winmo 6.1 on my xperia x1 (old dev) ).

If you have plans to use custom ROMs, buy it. I never had any problems with it.

Thanx for the replies guys, its good to know that things may not be as bad for everybody. I guess i might take my chances with this one.. Ill def be doing some more reading bout it though.. thanc again

I compared 5 phones:
Sony Ericsson Arc - no front facing camera
Motorola Atrix - no FM radio
Samsung Galaxy S2 - great phone, but a little out of my budget
HTC Sensation - a real contender, but more expensive than the LG and starting to get close in price to the Samsung
LG O2X - the lowest price with all the features I wanted.
I've had one reboot in over one month's use: I had the LG tethered to my notebook (works surprisingly well as a 3G modem). Surfing the net and charging the phone at the same time. I then started making voice calls and Tango video calls while still tethered to the internet and charging.
I could feel the LG starting to get a little warm and then bada bing! Re-boot.
I think I pushed it a little too hard that day.
Under normal use and conditions, my LG works well.
I would happily buy another one of these bronze beauties.
(I think black is also available, but I only ever seem to see the bronze coloured handsets)

Rhetorical answer - No.

Hi mate, are you from Italy?
I bought it 10 days ago at the same price you said on an Italian website (maybe the same u saw) and I had a lot of BSOD. IMO when you find it at a very low price it's because they have "bad" phones and they want to sell them as soon as possibile but I don't know if this is true!
But you have to consider that with the warranty you are almost sure that any issue will be resolved, you just have to wait... Mine is at the LG center right now and I'm waiting for it. Luckyli my HTC Magic is still working, so I have a good replacement during the wait!
Sorry for my English, I hope you understand everything

After first few days I was realy disapointed. The SW is realy but realy crap, battery was overheating, lasted only few hours. Response of the phone was very slow and I had few reboots. After 3 days I rooted it, flashed MODACO rom and ... I couldnt get better device for the price.

I am in Spain actually and it seems that my case looks a lot like yours. The retailer is very well known and it sells in all Europe. There is only 1-5 phones on stock at the moment so i think that maybe its a 'bad batch' that they are trying to get rid of, hence the low price tag. Mixed opinions here as well, so.. im really not sure about it at all. Continue reading

I'm satisfied of the phone...
When I buy it I had a lot of SODs with stock rom, but now with CM7 and MIUI this phone is much better...
Call quality is good
Camera is good (the glass in front of camera is crap...you have to clean it every time otherwise it causes the "myst" problem on the photos)
Battery is average

So.. The phone arrived yesterday from the UK. After about 10 hours of heavy usage i had 1 reboot, that, from what ive read over these days, doesnt really bother me.. Coming from a Liquid E, this phone feels very very fast, no lags or slowdowns of any kind. From earlier experience and knowing that the phone is on stock ROM, i can imagine that with a custom CM7 it should be faster than Bolt. BTW i left the phone last night with 64% battery and this morning i had.. 64% battery!! Incredible.. Anyways, im not gonna be flashing custom roms just yet, the only thing im interested in at the moment is getting the [email protected] patch working.. Even though i have found the 'start here' post here on xda, it will take some time to understand what needs to be done 1st etc since there's no clear guide, but im used to this kind of situations (just like anyone with a smartphone browsing through xda pages i guess).. Very happy with my purchase for now, i think that a tegra2 phone for 370 Euros was a bargain after all.. Thanx for your input, c ya around

in Holland u can get it for €318,-
its alot cheaper then the €478,- for the galaxy S2 and Sensation.
2 of my hfriends have a sensation and galaxy s2. mine is the fastest
(i want an optimus 3d now )

i can only choose between LG O2x or Nexus S, i like the timely software support of the S but the specs on LG are way superior...should i just get the LG?

Abot the battery issue, Ive been having it too after one month using it. The thing is, that the phone actually gets charged, but somehow the phone unable to detect the actual battey level.
I found that restarting the phone will get the phone to redetect the battery again. I think its a SW problem though, so any custom ROM will likely fix the problem.

If you like to have the latest version of Android OD with no bells and whistles then get the Nexus.
If you like to wait 6+ months for LG to install a boatload of crap (that nobody wants) into a phone, then be late for work every other day because the alarm didn't work etc etc then go for the LG.
Nexus S anytime.

Hands on with G2X today for 2 hours!

So I am going to tell you about my experience with a G2X today I was invited to come to my local store by my friends that work there, since I root all their phones they were very excited to show me it.
I arrived and was given the phone quickly, I was wow'ed by it in my hand, it has a very nice feel to it weight is around the same as the nexus one. Size is nearly the same as the vibrant, while the screen is simply shifted more to the top of the phone, I found this to be much nicer for one handed operations.
The overall construction is fantastic, rubberized back and the best thing is the screen is rolled off the edges and very nice. Speakers are as loud as the vibrant, phone is incredibly fluid smooth and never crashed or had hangups. I loaded several apps through Bluetooth all worked flawlessly, no blocking issues like some phones.
Tethering is on the phone stock, along with wifi calling however was unable to test it, due to no wifi source. The phone is reported to have a TFT display however it is not, it is the IPS display and it is amazing looking, next to the vibrant levels the same, the screen is as bright as the vibrant with. just a touch less color. I was most worried about the screen but I am not anymore.
Internet is blazing fast flash loaded very quick little to no lag. I was also worried about the battery life of the phone and can say I only used 1/4 of the battery over the almost 2 hours crash testing I did on it to verify it to be stable. the 4g radio is strong than the vibrant 4g I checked in the store, speeds were over 9mbps I got 3mbps on my vibrant (non 4G).
The only downfall to the phone is the power button is on top and is tiny. The phone memory was 6gb with 1.5gb internal? Without memory card installed so I am guessing this is around 8gb with 2 partitions they advertised.
There where some new menu items like smart share and something else forgot to look at it. Overall I am very impressed boot time is around 5-6 seconds. I am buying one day one for sure, I will most likely buy a GS2 when the come out too but for the next few months this is what the g2 should have been. Can't wait for 2.3.3 to release on this phone as it will only get better, but for now 2.2.3 will be great plus it will root with one click root as reported. Also I have heard that Team Whiskey is moving to the G2X day one so this will be unbelievable within a short time, save your money and donate often to get great support.
sounds like very good news thanks for all the info
Really great news! Specially that Team whiskey is getting their hands on this phone as well. I will be picking up mine tomorrow if God allows
Thanks for sharing your initial impression. g2x is running the original stock froyo so i can expect it to run w/ less bugs and errors.
So cyanogen, paul of modaco, and now them. Nice to have great and popular devs developing for g2x/O2x.
And now Eugene is coming from the vibrant to the g2x so glad I'm switching to such a highly developed for phone
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Wohoo, I'll be switching to this also, only because eugene, and TW were once the most greatest devs on the vibrant, so there work will be LOVED here
Unlocked bootloader is great i would never buy something that has a locked bootloader either signed or encrypted. Haha

G2X && O2X == LG O2X
After a few weeks when they get this partition business sorted we will be saying they should have the same forum.
The same thing happened with the Desire Z and the G2. Everyone in the Z forum wanted a merge because there was no Devvin' in the Z forums at all.
I think the G2X should have its own forum, but only for a few weeks, until we can make all the ROM's interchangable.

The G2X is the soon to be released T-Mobile USA branded version of the LG Optimus 2X... So they are the same phone in all but one regard, The G2X has support for HSPA+ and the LG 2X doesn't.
JD
Okey thanks
I was getting mad at all these people talking about gs 2 in our o2x forum !! our house !! how could they !!
But I was wrong ^^
Many thanks for the thorough review - I am coming from a MyTouch4G which I've had for a few days and can't stand and before that, I had the Inspire 4G (worse battery life than the HTC EVO), then I had the Captivate (at&t's Vibrant) from November til April. I loved the Cappy but it wouldn't hold an at&t signal in my area I just moved to. Got the Inspire, issue was much worse. Got the MyTouch4G and at least I can make calls at home - HSPA+ is hit or miss. Sometimes its 3-4Mbps, usually its more like 300kbps but I've yet to drop a single call. When I went to my friend's house in downtown Denver tonight, I experienced an 11.9Mbps average on a 50MB speed test so needless to say, I'm extremely excited about T-Mobile at the moment.
The only complaint I have for the phone is that its crap they didn't include 21Mbps HSPA+ and that you have to have a Vibrant 4G in order to get that. For their latest and greatest phone, they really should have upgraded the radio. :/
Anyway, mine was ordered Friday but didn't ship til Saturday so even though I got Saturday shipping, I won't have it until tomorrow. Can't wait to get my hands on it though and send this myTouch4G piece of junk back (got the one with the bad screen, bad GPS, fluctuating HSPA speeds, and random noise on phone calls - pretty much has every known issue including bootloops that require a full wipe of the device to factory every few boots) - and I've always been a huge nVidia fan.
Did you get to run any tests on it? Games? I heard about the nVidia Zone which has games that will ONLY run on Tegra 2 - curious to see how that turns out. It seems that devs are taking to the Tegra, even though the OMAP AND Exynos will be faster (theoretically, anyway - I find it hard to believe Samsung can improve graphics performance 5x over Hummingbird) - must be their reputation as a leader in the PC world.
I tried a demo unit at a store - very snappy and no lag. Mine is coming Monday or Tuesday, and will be rooting it so I can do a nandroid ASAP. I have heard of no warnings on flashing the recovery on it (but cannot use the installer). I already downloaded the drivers and oneclick (I am assuming there are also compatible with the G2X).
I am coming off a MT4G and have had just the opposite experience of the post above. It was an early release unit, and it has had just about all the basic CM ROM's on it. Now I get to start all over again - lol.

My impressions on my day-old O2X

This post is primarily for people who are considering whether to get the Optimus 2X or O2X from now on, and are sitting on the fence. I got my O2X at 1400 hrs on the 11th of May. It's 1845hrs now on the 12th of May.
Prior to getting the O2X, I became active in the O2X forums here on XDA. And I downloaded all the necessary software for it too such as new baseband, latest ROM (I use Fear's), OneClickRoot, LG drivers etc. First thing I did when I got the O2X was to plug it in to AC Power and charge it. Battery was at 44% out of the box.
Once it showed 100%, I plugged it in to my USB and checked the baseband. Was the old one. So I rooted it, updated the baseband and flashed Fear's ROM. Before that, I played with the stock LG Android for a little. When I first booted it up, for the first 30 secs, it was real laggy. But after that, it was real smooth. No noticeable lag at all.
So after I flashed Fear's ROM, which is rock stable for me, I began downloading apps I used on my previous Android phone, the Dell Streak. Downloaded Juice Defender. Phone began to reboot by itself. 3 times in an hour. Uninstalled it and back to its stable self. Been using it the whole of today, no lag, really fast. And the screen is really gorgeous too. Bright and vibrant. Installed LauncherPRO, GOSMS and GOContacts so I could completely stop using LG apps. Battery usage was on the high side though that was expected. Read somewhere battery wont be spectacular for the first couple of cycles so I will update on that later, after more usage. Gaming wise, tried 3 games. Asphalt 6 HD, Samurai 2 and Angry Birds. O2X handled them exceptionally well. No lags. Angry Birds seem to be build for Tegra. Butter smooth. You gotta see it to believe it. Havent tried playing it on my TV though although I suspect Ill do that soon enough. Web surfing was a pleasure too. Incredibly smooth.
On the hardware side, I wasnt impressed when I saw it on the photos online. But holding it in my hands, it's definitely a well made product. Really slim, and light too (At least for me, coming from a Dell Streak). I don't have any heat issues too other than during charging which is to be expected. The 4" screen is a real beauty, the curved glass in the edge is a nice touch. I even hear the screen is Gorilla glass although I can't confirm it. Call quality is excellent for me. The speakers are above average and are stereo.
Final words, the O2X is hands down the best Android device I've owned. Arguably the best phone I've owned even (And I've owned quite a few). CM7 is in the nightly build stage, moving forward in full force. Once CM7 gets stable, the O2X will fly. The only bottleneck now is software since we already know the O2X is a beast inside. Once that get's settled, you've got one heck of a mean device on your hands.
So to summarize,
+ Beautiful 4" screen
+ Monstrous Speed
+ Awesome web surfing abilities
+ Excellent construction
+ Able to play any game you throw at it, more Tegra optimized games will be out soon too
+ HDMI Mirroring, and it was nice having the HDMI cable included
+ Camera and video camera works well too
- Only average Battery life
- Have to wait a while before you can get your hands on CM7
- LG Software sucks.
- No dedicated camera button
- From what I hear, LG Support is not that fantastic.
In all honesty, I feel the pros greatly outweigh the cons. I would recommend the O2X to anyone I will be updating this with any new thoughts or experiences in the future.
Thanks to :
You, for taking your time to read this.

FearKill, for the fantastic ROM

also - give me example of smartphone with good support? htc? NO samsung? NOOOOOOOO motorola: I dont think so

how do you know it is not causing your problems?
Juice defender causes the phone to reboot because it comes with buggy drivers. In particular the wifi driver seems to be the biggest cause. If you stop it from enabling/disabling wifi it should work well.

for gingerbread juice defender sucks. sorry to tell you but i used it myself a long time on the n1, then the nexus s and on the lg o2x. i occasionally give it another try but always come to the same conclusion. since we got gingerbread (that would require you to run cm7 at this point) it just stopped working properly for me. especially now on the o2x, on which we do not have software running as it suppose to run, i'd adwise you not to use juice defender. but you should test it for yourself... just my experience with it....

I myself have never tried gingerbread before. And I am reluctant to try the nightly builds just yet. But JD works well with Froyo. Just not well with the O2X since we have driver issues. A hardware problem. Not a problem with JD. Anyway, I am runny Froyo now and had JD uninstalled due to the reboot problem allegedly caused by the wifi drivers.

Thanks for your review. I was thinking between Atrix, Galaxy S2 and 2X. GS2 has too big screen(and still not in my country) for me, Atrix is too expensive in Europe (£499 in UK -.-' without docks), so I think 2x will be my choice.
But wait, that wifi driver can't be fixed? I always connect drivers with software, not hardware.

GS2 isnt out here either (Singapore). And heard the Atrix has a locked bootloader. The wifi driver will be fixed eventually. Dont misunderstand me. Wifi works fine. It only goes bonkers when you install JuiceDefender and it tries to disable your wifi.
If you use a custom kernel with an update wifi driver it doesn't reboot at all anymore

Nice to hear that. Seems that 2X is the best buy, has unlocked bootloader, very good HDMIout performance, high FPS ingame etc. I can get it sim-locked for 100euro + 40euro monthly, and sim-free it is 450-500euro. Could be cheaper but my country sucks xD. I will get it for 1-2 months, it should be much cheaper .

Yep, for its calibre, the O2X is priced really nicely. I got it for 348 Singapore dollars, which is USD$280, with a 2 year contract.

So, there are NO hardware problems with O2X, it is only a bad software?
I was in dilemma between those 3 devices, but almost gave up of O2X because someone said reboots/freezes were hardware problem .

[Q] should i buy this ...thing ?

Hi guys,
i am thinking to buy optimus 2x or desire s. (they both cost almost the same, minor diff), i dont even dare call optimus 2x a phone anymore
desire s:
cool looking, metal body, great size,
BUT sucky camera, non rootable without xtc clip, no devs working on it, and some battery cover problems (squeaky)
optimus 2x:
LOTS of devs (which im hoping will fix the reboot issue), CM (yeaa!), great camera, hardware etc...
BUT its rebooting, getting very hot (for many), screen backlight bleeding and generaly unstable phone... my only gripes with it.
im so lost. any advice is VERY appreciated
The hardware for the Desire S is a real let-down IMHO. I've found my O2X to be stable generally, the early nightlies of CM7 weren't great but after about 10 they really improved. LG's software sucks but the phone is still usable, if laggy.
I've had no heat issue (if anything it runs cooler than my old Desire, if not my DEXT). Likewise the screen bleeding issue. I wouldn't choose any other phone right now.

The hardware for the Desire S is a real let-down IMHO. I've found my O2X to be stable generally, the early nightlies of CM7 weren't great but after about 10 they really improved. LG's software sucks but the phone is still usable, if laggy.

and if i may ask, for how long have you had your o2x ?
Looolll.
Is like comparing a Toyota with a Ferrari....
Ofcourse LG O2X.
I have mine since day one of release.
Some times (once a week or in 2 weeks) BSOD.
Phone never gets warm or what so ever.
Kept it stock for a long time. Rooted my phone like 2 weeks ago.
Just for Adfree, nothing else.
Had mine for a week. Stabile as rock! Not one reboot. No heat issues.
I have frozen antivirus and drivemehome (perhaps those who make the device reboot??)
My battery is good for 2 days with moderate use on 2G network. Have disabled 3G...
The backlight bleeding is a problem with all LCD screen more or less. I dont know why you want to stare at the screen while its pitch black in a room without light... I have some bleeding, but never bothers me. It is usually something to see in the screen
and what about the other loads of ppl who have bsod 5 times per day :| ?
i just really dont want want to go wrong with this because return is not an option

Just play with your phone hardcore for 3 days.
If any BSOD, REBOOT, hot tempure will occure you can go to the store en switch the phone.
And if your phone has these issues, I think you will notice it on the hardcore 3 day use.

I would do the opposite actually. Using the phone will give you no issues, it's only when left alone that the problems occur.
I seriously wouldn't risk this phone to be honest. You're guaranteed to have issues in one way or another, and you shouldn't have to root and void your warranty to get a reliable phone.
IMHO, if you can wait, I would suggest waiting 6 weeks to 2 months to see how the dual-core phone scene pans out. I think gingerbread would likely be on LG2X by then, as would improved stability on other dual-core phones as well. Also, like all electronic products, the longer you wait to buy - the cheaper they become.
keep in mind that some people had the O2X for 3 weeks before they started getting reboots/ freezes and BSOD. Just saying
Just you wait a little more while. CM7 will be as stable as a rock soon enough.
IMO. The Desire S should be around 2/3 the price of O2X to make it any worthy compared to O2X. It's just an upgraded version of the original Desire with a high pricetag.
The desire and incredible s work out of the box though. Without random reboots and freezes. If you just want a phone that works, I would go with the desire.
The 2x is great hardware for the money, but hardware isn't everything. I'm saying if you were concerned about problems, this really isn't the handset for you. Because you are 99% guaranteed to have issues.
If you are buying this with the intention to hack the hell out of it, you might be ok. You can't beat it's hardware to price ratio.
Don't even think about running this phone on stock if that is your intention.
It still hasn't been fully determined if anyone running stock, no root, no changes haven't had issues. Checking the various threads, I can't see anyone using stock that doesn't have issues. Most have either rooted and frozen apps, or put a complete new rom on.
If there are people running stock and don't have issues, they are a minority at best.
The op is saying a return isn't really an option to them. If so, then look elsewhere.
I hacked the **** out of it. And I love it. I could get an sgs2 but I didnt and thats saying a lot.

Hope this helps u decide, and let us know what u get.

thanks guys. idk, i think im more leaning towards optimus 2x now, cuz of CM mostly, but then again, the size is kinda huge especially for a 4 inch screen.
and 1 more question, hows the audio quality through headphones ? i read in gsmarena that stereo crosstalk is pretty awful, what do you people think ? its kind of important cuz i always use my phone as a music player
Why isn't the stock ROM an option? My first handset had to be replaced on day one. My replacement has BSOD once in a month. BSOD aside, the stock ROM really aint that bad - the LG home app isn't so great, but replace it with Go Launcher (or Launcher Pro or. . . ) and it's fine.

lol this bsod stuff looks so god darn random, i wish it was more concentrated so ppl could determine the ultimate cause.
btw another Q, hows the call quality ? and still: hows the sound through headphones ( is the stereo cross talk bearable ? cuz gsmarena said its pretty sucky, wondering how is it in real life situations)

I've found the call quality to be fine - in quiet situations, it's excellent, in noise situations it's fine. I've not used the handsfree, so don't know how calls are through headphones, but music is aok .

[Q] Need advice, considering buying Optimus 2x

hi all i'm currently deciding whether to get the optimus 2x.
im wondering what are the pros and cons after months of usage by you guys.
im interested to know about stuffs like:
- battery life
- custom ROM availability
- performance (game, scrolling, browser)
- defect (anyone who has a defect unit pls specify tyvm)
- screen quality
- sound quality
- etc (specify)
am i recommended to get this optimus 2x or you would recommend me to get other phones such as i9000, i9003 etc?
If you like custom rom's then this one is really good if you can get it for a low price Battery for me about 30h with Cm7. Performance very good. Good screen and with Fiio E11 the audio quality is better than my cowon o2 (using sennheiser hd 25)

Hi, I bought my O2X two months ago. I only bought it because of the CyanogenMod support. The stock ROM by all accounts is s**t.
Using CM7, the O2X is fantastic.
Screen: Great.
Audio: Great.
Battery: 8-14 hours with 3G. On 2G 30 hours.
Performance: Using Launcher Pro, the interface is silky smooth.
Custom ROM: At least 3 very well supported ROM's.
Games: It plays everything.
GPS: Locks in under 3 seconds.
I bought my O2X for £270. Which for me is great value. I strongly recommend you buy a new handset, and pay with a credit card. Some users with older handsets report issues which can only be attributed to faulty hardware.
I am very happy with my O2X.
Have fun. Anil
what about the random reboots and reboot loops?
btw thx for the input, yea im able to get it in a pretty reasonable price

Hi, I think the reboot and the BSOD problem, are either related to a dodgy handset, the stock ROM, or both. Which is why I suggested buying a new handset, and using CyanogenMod.
I have NEVER had an issue with CM7 & my O2X. Apparently the MIUI ROM, is also very good. A lot more like Apple's iOS than ANDROID. Which is what some people prefer.
Have fun. Anil
You will regret it. I had to choose between samsung galaxy s2 and lg optimus 2x. Unfortunatelly I did choose lg because of the price difference and I made a big mistake. Lg doesn't upgrade their phones and you will have to try a lot of cooked roms untill you will find the best for you, but even then it will not work as you want it. The camera quality is bad for a 8mp camera, the full hd recording isn't even close to hd quality, you will need fixes for the gps and if you will have the oportunity to compare the lg 2x display and the samsung super amoled plus display you will notice a really big difference.
Maybe I am one of those who will never again buy lg phones but take a look at the lg facebook page and you will find thousands of people who complain about their phones.

If money is not a big issue (it was for me), go for de Samsung. I had random reboots and BSOD that disappeared with CM7 stable, but LG support is worse than poor. And the Samsung is, have to say, a better choice.
I would buy it if I were you I had first galaxy S, then iPhone 3gs and this summer I was choosing between S2 and O2X. I would choose LG again. I don't have problems with reboots or any other issues. I was using CM, MIUI and Paul's ROM. At the moment I am on one other stock based ROM and everything works great. People are complaining about LG support and crappy software but I remember how ****ty galaxy s was... This device is far better for me so I could only recommend it to you. But at the end, it is your decision what to do

If you want it great out of the box get the s2 if you enjoy tinkering and flashing new roms I'd get the o2x as I've seen real improvements using miui or cm7

I bought the O2x shortly after launch and have regretted it ever since. It is a fantastic handset with great look/feel BUT I get the BSOD / reboot loops - the phone has been in for repair twice and I have had it replaced once - still getting the same issue. I am currently fighting with my supplier to swap to a different phone.
It's a shame - when it works it works fantastically well - but I just can't afford to have a phone that can't be relied upon to take calls and set alarms.
(I have had issues on Stock and CM7 - I am convinced that this is a manufacture flaw.)

strange,, i had no issue like that... both on froyo and ginger on stock or custom
hope your phone will be quickly repaired,,
I think that most issue is software related. The hardware is quite good but a bit less fast than a samsung galaxy II. Buy a O2X if you want the best price, or buy a sgII if you want quality.
On the end, the O2X will have android 4.0 too (well, Lg committed to that, might be in 2 years).
Oh one thing I don't really like is the flash of the APN. It's way too brilliant.
Ohh and if I have to recommend a rom, it would be the stock v20L. Well, CM7 is good too.
Touch Wiz
The reason I bought my O2X is because I really like CyanogenMod. Are there any custom ROM's for the SG2? If not you will have to use "Touch Wiz".
I for the record bought a new O2X two months ago and I haven't had any hardware issues.
Anil
EDIT: CyanogenMod does support the SG2.
My lg works perfect,my sister got sensation today and it is a little better phone but not 200euros better. My advice buy lg. Never had bsod, reebots etc. Tryed miui,topogigi,cm7 but it works best on froyo stock.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Often overlooked, but the screen is, IMHO, as good as I've used; this includes the IP4, SGS2, Omnia 7 etc. The colours are very natural, lovely saturation and contrast; and the curved edges make it a very holdable handset.
MASSIVE downpoint for me; using stock, appalling battery life. I'm a very light user, use nothing intensive and cant make a whole day on a single charge. Get that up to a usable timeframe and its as good a phone as there is out there in real term day to day operation.
Oh, and the ridiculous number of ****ty bugs in the stock ROM. Such as random switching off, random refusal to find known WiFi networks, random refusal to find signal, random refusal to charge the battery.....
Hardware is lovely, software is as bad as I have had on a mobile. Except my Nokia E52, but that was an extreme example

Is the Lg Optimus 2x good?

Well im going to buy the 2X soon after i buy a laptop but thats not the point, the point is , is the 2X worth buying? Tell me your experience uding the lg 2x.
Spend a couple of 100 bucks more and buy a proper phone. LGO2X is crap tbh. It gets way better with cm7 and cm9 and custom roms in generel, but no its not a good phone.

Not exactly a lie. Don't get me wrong here, I love my O2X now when I've figured out the right baseband/RIL combination and found myself a preferred kernel (which doesn't work right now because of the system r/w corruption bug). It is a great phone if you like experimenting. If not I'd recommend a phone which is using Qualcomm-SOC solution.
So I guess it all comes down to the user.

I had this phone for over a year now. The first 9 months it was a laggy, buggy and hopeless experience, though cm7 after 6 months made it better. Then Gingerbread came along from LG, but it was still buggy and laggy. Random reboots then charging and in general. ATM i am on owains cm9 with harch kernel and my phone has never been better. But still.. I regret by a 1000 that I bought this phone and not the SGII. I will buy the SGIII then it comes and if that disappoints the One X. Sorry to say but the OX2 has been a huge let-down. Hardware was good at the price but software and build-quality was never well.

Well I jumped in around CM7 build 170, so I was fortunate to get the phone in it's prime. I know you had a crap experience at the start, but the OP doesn't have to buy the phone using a time machine. In it's current state it is a better phone than the SGS2 in my opinion. (unless ICS is a factor, then the SGS creams it)
The SGS2 has a horrible screen, costs $150 more, and is worse than the O2X in gaming stability.

I utterly disagree. I do not find the SGII screen worse than O2X, quite the contrary tbh, but thats a matter of taste. The SGII is more stable(can actually use the alarm by night not fearing the phone will shut down during night), custom builds have very stable ICS with chrome, the very possible chance that it will also be upgraded to Jelly Bean and imo better gaming and better battery-life.

And better camera.. I have just been so annoyed and disappointed with my O2X, not saying that models build later can not have eliminated many of the bugs i have experienced, but i would never recommend this phone to anyone. My gf has a SE mini pro, which is far mor stable and faster in everyday use (open texts and stuff) than my O2X ever was.

My friend may have had a dud screen, it had a green tint to it, looked nasty.
Another friend has a Motorola Razr, his screen was terrible whereas the O2Xs is actually white. I guess it depends on the batch.
I've had both galaxy s2 and the optimus 2x. In really do like the o2x when compared to the gs2 screen.
I ended up sticking with my o2x and selling my gs2 (':

I have Samsung Galaxy s2 it is horrible, good performance good camera but ultra lame overheats all the time , milti touch bugs sometimes... Crap , waht do you guys recomend then?
Considering what users have experienced with galaxy s2, and the super speedy responsivness my O2X running CM7 and the now working etana kernel. I'd say go for an O2X. Hardware quality is top notch.

I would say that gpu in galaxy nexus is not very good for 720p resolution. At least for games.

If you're not worried about something being new, the HTC Sensation resale value has dropped a lot, I just picked one up for £140 and it already has ICS, more RAM and a qHD screen.
Dunno if I'll keep it, but for that money it was silly to pass it up.
"bof bof " as we say in france
For the good news :
It's a powerfull phone,
For the medium news :
Battery is not that good 14/15hours when I don't use it often, 8/9 h when I use it with internet or wifi a part of the day.
For the bad news :
If you want to use the fm radio, forget about it, it is just horrible.
Result, for the price, you can take it.
If you've got some more cash go for a galaxy S2, or nexus.
Was just browsing one my of favourite forums and came across a screen burn in thread re the SGS2..
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1897429#r1
Seems this phone is getting worse all the time lol, when I bought my O2X I dreamed of an SGS but couldn't afford it, now I'm sure I made the right decision.
Its a good fast phone that runs anything you throw at it, its the cheapest out of all dual core devices and is worth it.
I dont regret my buy at all, i wish lg would update faster and nvidia supported it properly but its still a good device.
Well everything depends.. What is the price, that you are going to spend ? I bought O2x for about 450$ a time ago, and was really sad coz it lacks support.. And i had it with 2.2.2 android.. Anyway I decided to break warranty and mod it and it changed the thing, especialy now when I'm using Owain's CM9, Its just fantastic, except video cam is not supported for now, but hopefully official ICS is rolling out this month..

And another dissapoinment I had ,when the phone slipped out of my hands in winter and bottom left side of my digitizer get spider net (crack) on it, and I found out that digitizer price was around 50-60$ comparing to 14-20 for iphone, some htc an samsung, that i checked... You are lucky.. I got digitizer cracked with first serious hit on concrete.. Is that possible coz of low temperatures ? I guess it was something about -25 -30c outside that period.. and phone was just un trunk of my car for hour or so..
