So I've been a lurker on the boards for awhile, following the Android development and experimenting as I can, since I want to start doing my own ports. However, recently I've been running into an issue that I'm trying to fix.
I've searched the boards and have only found one solution, but I want to see if there are other options.
Do any Android Builds have a working camera? I know zenulator developed a Donut 1.6 build with a working camera but I found it's not nearly fast enough on my system (Vouge running Myn's Warm Donut) for me to make the switch, in addition to not being updated since November. Are there any other builds with a camera? I'm not too upset, it just irks me that I have to reboot WM just to take pictures.
Not sure what you are talking about. All donut builds have a working camera (the quality is not as good as WinMo, but it works)
The Eclair builds do not have working cameras.
In some of the kernels the camera app is soft resetting the device

I believe you need a kernal from 4-6-10(April 6th) or earlier to avoid camera reset.
I'm guessing that fixing the camera quality is not an easy task otherwise it would probably be done. But I think it would be great if we could get the same picture quality as winmo. Is anyone working on this?

id like to know this aswell aslo is anyone working on video with the camera?
VirginIncVuture, [ROM] Myn’s Warm Donut - [RLS 5 - 04/24/2010] -Added 240x320 Complaint Dialer 05/07 All work's great!!! But i like Eclair with no worked Camera, Voice Dial, Bluetooth!
Third inquiry as to the camera quality.
Does anybody have plans for the camera?
doesn't sound like it man.
Yeah I worked really hard at getting the camera to work through Donut only to later look at the actual picture quality and it wasn't even worth my time (
Shame really...
Yeah I mean the quality on Myn's rom is OK I guess. But it's not really worth the development time unless it looks like it did while using it on WinMo. Totally a shame...
Sorry, but whose dev time is it not worth?

I find the camera results are *better* in Android than WinMo. Do not judge the camera by the preview, which is pretty crappy on vogue android. The picture will not look like the preview.
The lack of any camera support in Eclair for the past 4 months is the only thing keeping me off it. I really wish I knew what was wrong.

Really?
I always assumed that the low quality pics in Android would look the same on my laptop. I will have to take a look for myself.
Thx...
myn's for sure the camera works at 320x480 if you use a non native resolution the camera for me has not worked
The quality is atrocious no matter what.
I have used warm donuts 320x240 and this is a sample of 320x480

Yeah the quality is actually pretty bad, its not just a preview issue.

I thought that this should get its own thread. In light of recent events, i am now trying to try to port froyo to the dinc. If anyone is interested...well notify me
YES! Most Def.
I already have one person on my waiting list, so i take it that u want to be on my list, too?
Can you add sense to it...? Of course with the option to run it when you want

I agree 100%, nothing against the N1, but I would have gotten one if I liked the UI--I had enough of it on the G1, I'm glad to have a very fast sense and would like to keep it with 2.2!
I for one dislike sense. I prefer the stock vanilla ui, but if i can port sense to froyo than i wont hesitate in doing so
si senior.
vanillia Froyo all the way!!
Of course, sense with an official release of Froyo
I think this is a no brainer, most if not all want froyo
I like sense, but I would take it either way
A de-sensed froyo would be great. Even a de-sensed 2.1 would be nice. I really like the vanilla android
i'm definitely interested in some froyo action on my inc
If not full Froyo, at least its version of the gmail app to replace the stock one on the INC...
Vanilla android is awesome. I miss it after coming from the droid.
I've been waiting for froyo since the day I got this phone! So yes, count me in for wanting it!

I agree, which is why I don't completely understand why it needs it's own thread and why it's in the development section instead of general (since you are pretty much taking a poll).
If you are really going for a 2.2 port, I suggest getting together/talking to already well-known porters/Incredible coders if you aren't already, as a similar task may already be going on and the more the merrier (also faster =p).

+1 It's almost like asking if we want root... I doubt too many are hoping to install 2.0 or 1.6 on the phone.
Froyo allows rotation of the main android screens right? I hate that when my Inc is in my car dock(landscape) the main screens never rotate!
So yes, once I can get rooted, I would love Froyo for my Incredible. (I like sense too!)
TY
Hey rr12106 I would love to have froyo when its ready. Thanks for the effort.

Awww. I want it now.
Sorry, didn't mean to get you all excited for nothing! Don't worry though, we'll definitely post once CM6 is released for any Galaxy S devices - that's something people will want to know

Will they release a version of the mod for the i9000 (the eu one not the vibrant)?

Obviously yes, since phones are almost identical (you can even cross-flash firmwares, but you have to be careful about it).
If and when CM6.1 comes out, this board will be a flurry of activity and you will definitely not miss it.
Also it will be stickied at the top of the board

tried to see if what works? all thats been announced is that galaxy s is on the official "supported" list, so no mod for it yet but we will get the mod when they release 6.1

Lifehacker (sister site of Gizmodo) is also reporting that it supports Galaxy S phones.
There is only a start of CM6 for SGS. Check status here:

I am fairly new to Android ..But still heard the buzz about the fantastic cyanogen mods .. I also read that because of copyrights etc .. cyanogen mod do not contain google items ( market, gmail etc) ...Does that mean I can't use any of the googleprograms or can the be ( legaly) downloaded and installed in the rom ?
What makes the cyanogenmod so special that we even want that into our sweet SGS' ??

Although there's been some good answers already, what I'm particularly interested in is that the 6.x releases are all Froyo based which will bring a load of new amazing to the SGS, and depending on the CM release schedule, it may well in fact come to the galaxy BEFORE the official samsung froyo rom.
If that happens, it'll be a major coup for the CM guys, to not only be better than the stock rom, but to be dropping before samsung.
Froyo brings JIT and naitive apps2sd, which is awesome, as well as plenty of other goodies. The reason why the N1 recently jumped almost up to SGS levels on quadrant on 2.2 is because of JIT coding, so expect a pretty impressive jump in performance for us.
Also, there's the possibility that the CM rom will totally drop samsungs crappy slow ass proprietary file system that's caused so much woe for our devices, which translates into no need for lagfixes, and generally improved performance all around.
Thinking of streamlining stuff... No more bloatware, just the services and apps we need, which translates into better memory management, and so better stability and even better performance for multi-tasking.
Finally, no need for GPS fixes. CM should be coming with good, accurate and thoroughly tested gps code.
So yeah... All the joy of Froyo, minus the samsung junk, thats been developed by SGS users for SGS users. Might not see everything perfect in 6.1, but it will sure as hell be a leap forward. *straps myself in*

It just happens to be the best build of Android out there, by far! Runs like a bat out of hell on my Nexus One, would love to have it on my SGS.

Judging by the thread over at the CM forums, yes, they've tried - they've also tried hacking it on, with no progress. It's not something you can easily just drop in. If you want the dirty tech details, head over http://www.cyanogenmod.com and check the SGS section of the forums. You'll see which thread.
Looks like theres already an alpha version in the works

Nice, I just can't wait to see the best hardware phone out there with the best software
Im trying to decide on which Rom to install. Im searching for a stock android experience with the most stability and the least amount of bugs. I notice that Rubix is very popular and I see Fission is up and coming. If I read correctly the new rubiX is based off of the Fission base? Has anyone tried both?
I only had Fission running for a little bit but I RubiX is VERY fast and is 100% without all the Motoblur bloatware & it's been optimized as well.
I'm not sure what camera Fission has, but RubiX has the ASOP camera which is very fugly imho. I hope someone allows for the UI from the original DX to be ported over b/c it is much prettier.
You. Can just grab it from a blur rom. Paste it to /system and change permissions and the blu camera will work.

Don,t forget if you do, do this, that you will also have to move over the video player as well!
I installed fission 1.1 test 4 and it worked well...
then i installed rubix 1.0 focused and pretty much felt in love.
I will admit I still question rather i should give fission another try but I will see.

This method works great to get the DX camera back which is WAAYYY better than AOSP camera. But the other poster is right, you have to move the videoplayer.apk over too.
On another note, anyone know how I can get 3G hotspot back in Rubix 1.0? I tried copying over Mynet.apk and even flashing the TBH hotspot but it seems that Rubix doesn't want to recognize it.

Actually, the AOSP camera takes way better pictures. The blur camera is very very grainy and doesn't look good. Even with low ISO settings, my pics with the blur camera suck. 8mp on the AOSP looks worlds better than 8mp on the blur.

i prefer rubix. it seems less buggy to me. plus I can restore back to it if I need to. for some reason with fission, if i restore back to an earlier install it messes up my phone and I have to wipe data/cache and reinstall it all over again. also rubix has a nice boot animation which is an extra bonus.
Hello guys,
i just looked a video about the htc ones slow motion function. I^ve tried it with the cyanogenmod 11 build in camera, but it crashes when i chose hdr and i cant find the slowmo function, so i`m looking for the htc ones stock camera app. Ive already tried to search it via google but without any results. Are there any possibilitys to install the 4.3 stock Camera on cm 11?
Thanks a lot!

Sorry to disappoint, but this is not possible. The HTC Camera app uses code that is a part of HTC's Sense UI. Without a stock Sense Rom, you cannot install the Sense Camera, which is a shame.
The biggest problem is that the code related to the camera app is not open source, so Devs cannot really use it to port the app to AOSP/CM roms.
Hopefully some genius dev will be able to replicate the function of the required code, and port over the camera, but it is not really a priority for any of them right now.

oh, well, i allready thaught so..
it seems, that the camera app is a vergy good work from htc. As i heard, it comes with the best slowmo quality until now.. what should i do now? are there any better ways then taking the stock rom? I really like the design of 4.4 , but the batterylife decrease slightly. I think i would take a custom rom with sense, so i can delete some stock roms. Is that possible?

I think you meant you would delete/replace some of the stock apps on a rooted Sense rom... Am I correct?
If so, yes. I personally would vouch for ViperOne. The team is super amazing. They have quick, over-the-air updates, and their rom is rock solid stable. To delete apps, you can use Rom Cleaner (just search the XDA forums in the general android development) I can provide links 2morrow when I get back home bcoz my phone doesn't show the XDA search bar lol.
But an even better approach than removing apps yourself is to Use Eragon Rom. I have a link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423492&highlight=eragon
The developer removed the sense launcher and everything, but kept some apps like the camera, gallery, dialer, and sound equalizer. It is pretty smooth, and tbh, the Dev is a nice, helpful guy.
Hope I helped

I do believe Eragon has the HTC gallery app as well. In fact, I am sure, because it supports HTC Zoe, which requires the HTC gallery.
