what should I use instead a task manger - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

App be running in the background n I thought task manger was the best.
Samsung captivate
glitch kernel
cyanogenmod 7 #89
OC and UV

Have you looked in settings/Applications/ and looked at running services ? that will show others apps running you may want to close.

Advanced Task Killer is where it's at. (I'd give you a market link, but I'm lazy)

It is not needed. It doesn't help anything. Go ahead and uninstall it
Do a search about task killers and Android. They usually do more harm than good. Instead use Auto Killer or Auto Memory Manager. Set it to optimum and enjoy.

[Q] Program Manger Widget Replacement?

Does anyone know if there is a good alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S' "Program Manager" widget?
This one little widget is the only reason I'm still using TWLauncher rather than Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher.
Any ideas?
you mean the App that lests you install/uninstall Apps?
there are tons of it if that is the case
Astro file manager comes build in with it

I'm referring specifically to the widget it provides that gives you a counter of how many programs you have running. And doesn't kill all processes when you tap on it.
i don't like the stock Task Manager, it is innacurate, it doesn't show a lot of the hidden apps running. It is a nice feature that shows how many apps are running but that's about it.
There are a lot of alternative Task Managers, but so far i've not found a good one that includes a widget
this one does but is not free
http://www.appbrain.com/app/status-widget/com.domobile.eray.widget
the next best thing is this one
http://www.appbrain.com/app/advanced-task-manager/com.james.SmartTaskManager
but it only tells you how much RAM you have left, you click on it and goes into the full screen which shows everything in detail

I love the stock Task Manager! It doesn't count the running services, which is good because I rather them be out of sight
Hmm that widget could work, but it takes up so much screen real estate.
If you or anyone know of any others, please share!
Closest I could find: http://www.appbrain.com/app/task-manager/com.futonredemption.taskmanager

What's the best custom ROM for saving ram?

What's the best Rom to save Ram
I'm on miui usually I have 70-110 ram free
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Its not so much as you need a different rom as you should try stopping startup apps. I use autorun manger app and optimize toolbox. Download off the market and if you got root you can stop system apps like gmail and google maps from starting up when y0u arnt useing them. Optimize tool box has a task killer and a startup manager i disable everything in there except autorun manager. Autorun manager on the other hand i disable everythin except like android os and other important stuff like that. With the pro version if you have root you can stop the recivers which helps alot. Another app if you have root is fast reboot pro, which is another very good one to have. Try not to use widgets they take up ram as well. Using those meathods i manage to get my ram down to about 117 mb used, which is just over 200mb free. I hope this helps.

ive downladed The Dark Knight But in its data theres Nova Launcher(nova launcher is an launcher like Adw , go launcher , but nova is ics launcher , does this mean that the Dark knight is Launcher instead of ROM?)
Dark night is a rom but that is what they are using as a stock launcher for the rom

No,
do u know how ?
These apps open and suspend until you use them. So in fact it's better because they are ready to go. Otherwise you have to use system resources to load them up every time. I know I suck at explaining it but it's true. Perhaps someone more savvy can find better words.
This is a Kinology HD using XDA Premium
While krsmqn is correct, there is also Greenify.

true, changing min free values work very well, to kill them faster, but, using a task killer reset apps, using an hinbernation app sleep them, it kill them and put them to "sleep"
in my tweaks, for example, i use minfree to set the minium free memory for each group of apps, so there will be more free ram and more speed
