Jobs found a loophole in California vehicle laws and simply took advantage of it.

how typical, and he has the balls to go after google/samsung for finding their loop holes?
I hated steve jobs but that's actually pretty funny.
That's no big deal. If some idiot wants to keep paying taxes on a new car every 6 months, that's more money for the local government than the price of the tags. Remember that the taxes on the whole vehicle are paid at the time of the vehicle's actual sale, which means right before the vehicle is driven off the lot.
Remember that California has a sales tax rate of 7.75%, so every 6 months, they get to charge $10230.00 in sales tax. When the vehicle gets flipped 6 months later, they get to nail it for sales tax a second time.
Basically, this idiot was paying more than $20000 per year just to drive without plates. The average price of a new car in the US is under $30000, also known as 18 months of driving without plates for stupidface.
Sorry, but this MORON didn't find any loophole. He found a hole to shove money into by the wheelbarrow.

Yeah - absolutely right, unless he leased it, which is says in the article he did.
I don't get the logic behind allowing 6 months to get plates.

MK's grid system makes an excellent rally course (as seen on Road Wars)
I wonder if sales tax is applicable to leases, or company purchases?
As for jokes: People from MK are so 'ard, even their cows are made of concrete!

Hahaha - that's actually good. And in all seriousness, I really do like the grid thing. 1st time I went to Milton Keynes I had a letter and a number and a street name and found the place straight away. I really does make things very easy.
Milton Keynes road system FTW!

It works great as long as you ignore that some of the H roads go vertical and some of the V go horizontal.
The main utilities are buried in the banks either side of the roads so traffic doesn't have to be delayed by roadworks.
The grid wasn't the first design though. Originally the plan was a 4 leaf clover layout, with a monorail around the border. How cool would that have been?
No home was to be more than a 5 minute walk from a bus stop, and 15 minutes from a monorail stop.
Way too expensive though so they dropped it.
They did, back in the 50s/60s foresee a time when homes would have more than one car which is pretty foward thinking for the time.
Although they forgot about the need for a hospital or firestation!
New home owners were given a voucher to buy and plant a tree, resulting in hundreds of trees needing to be ripped up 20-30 years later due to growing too close to roads/buildings etc.
"Note for Americans and other aliens: Milton Keynes is a new city approximately halfway between London and Birmingham. It was built to be modern, efficient, healthy, and, all in all, a pleasant place to live. Many Britons find this amusing." -Good Omens

$750 for both eyes?
I paid $3,000US, but I live in New York where everything is more expensive, and I wanted a doctor with one of the best educations available (He went to Princeton for undergrad and U. Pen for med school).
EDIT: I forgot to mention, this was 2 years ago, and my eyes are great. I have perfect vision, whereas previously I had a +6 prescription. My night vision is excellent, my only qualm is that I am severely affected when cutting onions, whereas before I was not.
I want to do that, but I dont know what r the issues with that operation
My wife had hers done about 10 years ago - cost her about £2000 I think. She was really pleased and didn't need glasses, until a week ago and now she needs them for driving. This reminded me laser surgery can only get your eyes to perfect, it cannot fight natural aging too.
I went 18 months ago, attracted by the adverts saying "from £395 per eye". Turned out my eyesight was bad enough that I didn't qualify for the cheapest option, and that my pupils were 1mm too large to qualify for the second cheapest (!). This left me with only the final option available to me - £3300 all in. Couldn't afford that, so used the grand I'd saved to buy a Thunderace instead.
Wish I could get my eyes done as I'd love to be able to see when I first wake up, and when swimming, however, I cannot afford it at the moment. One day....
I did it 1½ year ago on both for ~2000 USD here in Sweden. It feels like my eyesight is getting worse again so I think that I did it too early before my eyes had stabilized. They did warn me about doing it to early so I can't blame them. I did it when I was 22 years old. Of course my eyesight is much better than before but when you pay that much you will easily get a bit picky.

Yeah I'm getting mine for $3,700 (insurance won't cover it) with one of the best on the west coast..
Sorry to hear about the onions situation lol
I had mine done last month.. I LOVE IT.
Costed me $3700 for the lasik which was cleared for at the last min but was going to get the prk which the price for that was $3200. BUt it had a longer recovery time.
All in all the lasik is the best. ITCHED LIKE HELL FOR THE FIRST DAY. (make you wanna rub the stuffing out of your eyes) but after you put some drops in there and goto sleep by the time you wake up your vision is clear as day.
* Its actually clear as soon as you get out but not as clear*
I now have 20/15 vision.
I must say is the best volunteered money i have ever spent.
Good luck when you get it done..
FYI. they gave me tylenol pm before my surgery to help me goto sleep afterwards... ( word to the wise - Bring something a little stronger)
the procedure only take 7 mins if that for both eyes and you want to goto sleep as soon as possible, trying to stay up and enduring the pain till the meds kicks in isnt a good feeling at all
GOOD luck to all those are getting New eyes...
I had been considering too, but I dont want to risk both eyes, so I think I will do my left eye first, wait until it "recovered' then do the right eye.
One eye at a time is more expensive.
does age affect the lasik operation decision making? i mean im 37 now and everybody says that it's a waste of money coz by the age of 40 everybody will surely have poorer eyesight. i've been considering lasik for 5 years now.
is it painful? during or after?
Interesting thread. I've been thinking about having this done for a long time but scared to do it (I have an eyephobia... there's probably a decent word for it but eyes do really freak me out). Do you have to be awake during the procedure?
BTW it's a couple of thousand Euro's here.
afaik, yes you'r awake during the opt. it only takes ~10 minutes to complete it
Finished!!!!! 20/20
Surgery finished! 20/20 vision!!!!
And came out with some good drugs! haha j/p
congrats and be careful with the drugs
keep us posted on any side affects like dryness, etc.
A cubical job. Where you go and sit in a cubical and have your own desktop and a BlackBerry for your job and you wear a suit everyday with a nice view over DownTown Chicago and you travel a lot to foreign places with good food.
What kinda positions have this?
Hmmm. Managing director doesn't have to work in a cubicle, they get an office with a view
To get a job like that, how about IT Manager, or Director of Technology? Trouble with other jobs would be lack of foreign travel (you need to be at management level or above to get some of the best hotels)

We have a wee bit of rioting in Belfast this evening. There's a parade on somewhere or other. Got me thinking about rioting in general. We get a lot of it here. LAst summer was particularly bad with a lot of rioting around the city and around NI in general. this is a video from last year at Ardoyne. It doesn't kick of right away but it gets a bit out of hand. This one is quite tame. Afterwards a policewoman was seriously inured when a rioter through some concrete on her.
Belfast and Vancouver may be on different continents but they have the perennial riots in common. It's only 0.1% of each population though, while the rest look on thinking 'what a bunch of asshats'
It'll all change given, oh i don't know....300 years? Shame we won't be around to enjoy the peace!

good heavens! ur from belfast as well! the riots last summer was madness. thank god most of it was around Derry and North Belfast! just when you think people are matured enough to put the past behind them and move on! no wonder most of NI is a dump...lol
i was however stuck in the middle of the riots last year (if i remember right) along the lower windsor avenue when the polish supporters clashed with the local ones. 'twas a bloody affair i tell you. i actually pity the coppers in NI. poor guys are hated by both sides and have been putting up with sectarian s**t for too many decades now
If citizens were allowed to carry firearms it would pretty much stop the rioting. People are less inclined to do something that may get them killed....

rioting is one thing but the assassination in the antrim base, the cold blooded murder of the police officer in craigavon and the recent ones as well have taken things just a bit too far. what do they hope to achieve. yes i do know they are fighting for a cause, but blood baths isnt the answer.
It has really kicked off the last two nights with up to 500 on Monday night rioting and 700 last night. A photographer was shot in the leg last night, you can read the article here.
Shots have been fired by both sides of the community and there is very little the police can do without being heavy handed. This is putting such a negative slant on Northern Ireland which is a fantastic little country.
Let's face it, humans don't need a reason to be violent. They just need an excuse.

Can somebody explain this strange phenomenon to me? Not a single week goes by when i don't drive over a solitary sneaker laying in the middle of the road. Last night alone i passed by two of these lost loafers! Sometimes they're a running shoe without the runner, but could equally be a business shoe without the business man.
So what's going on here? Are people leaving home with their footwear on the roof of their cars only to have their favourite flip-flops go sailing off on the first bend they take? Are moped owners arriving at their destinations only to find that they are one plimsoll short of a pair?
Has anybody here mysteriously lost one half of a nice pair of pumps during their journeys on the road, perhaps stepping out of the car wondering why their stocking clad right foot just took a soaking from that puddle?
Is it the aliens...?

Market place Bitomat had to place themselves to the sale, because they had lost the access to 17.000 Bitcoins.
MyBitcoin had give up after a hacker attack, whereby more than 78,000 Bitcoins disappeared.
In 2012 had to stop the market place Bitfloor temporarily the activities, because by a hacker attack 24,000 Bitcoins were stolen.
And so forth ...
Ahhhh the "silk roads" favorite currency

Too much of a hassle. Plus anything I would buy with them I can probably find IRL.
I used to. Sold it on Tuesday when it was $170. Got $1700. Do the Math.
The reason I sold it is simple. I may sound like a Hipster but now Bitcoin has become huge and mainstream and that my local news channels talk about it, people would start to try it and the price would crash. Upon this prediction, I sold the coins. And like I predicted, the stock crashed and the people on reddit all got paranoid. Job Well Done.
Nope, never have and I hope I'll never have to. My friend used to, but gave up because of how ridiculous the whole process was.
Im bitcoin mining! Hoping to strike it rich!

Yes I use cryptocurrencies (BTC LTC NMC etc..)
First, anyone saying Bitcoin has been compromised is flat out wrong, and either mis-, or (more likely) under informed.
Saying Bitcoin has been hacked is the equivalent to saying "I use an MS operating system and visited a shady website, and subsequently became infected with malware in the form of a key-logger. The owner of the malware then used the logger to gain access to my bank account. Clearly my bank has been compromised."
What has not happened is bitcoin being compromised. What has happened are DDoS attacks and computers that hold bitcoin wallets being compromised. This is mitigatable by simply storing your wallet on a USB stick or some other off-line medium, you cannot hack what is not plugged in.
Bitcoin uses SHA-256 encryption that, has not been compromised, and even if it were 512 or 1024 etc.. could be easily implemented, which are orders of magnitude harder to decrypt. Bitcoin did not invent the security it simply implemented it in a new an unusual way. If security is an issue take a look at LiteCoin, it's security is impressive to say the least.
Second, my grandmother (God rest her soul) never used email, but she did write letters. Bitcoin may not be the end all solution, but it's the beginning of what will be to currency as email was to letters and the web is to newspapers. Did you use BBS before the internet took off? I did. It wasn't the best solution, just the best one we had at the time. Bitcoin is an experiment read the whitepaper released by Satoshi Nakamoto.
Yes, the market is volitle, and rightfully so it is new, and the attacks against it are a good thing, as they are strengthening it. You wouldn't want a lock that had never been tested.
I've used it to buy all manner of things, (food, clothes, TV, computers) and I mined most of the coins I currently hold.
I'm not saying use it, but if your going to knock it, at least know what your talking about. I'm someone that likes to use bleeding edge tech, and am aware I may be burned by doing so. This one technology has allowed me to enjoy other tech devices, as I could not afford them without the profit I've made mining.
I do wish it was implemented on these forums, as I would tip posts and use it to make purchases on this site. Yes you do have PayPal, and I've got a rotary phone but I'm not going to use that anymore either.
Funny reading this thread of all the losers who put down bitcoin because they know nothing about it. I am making a fortune off it! These posters might want to open their eyes and look again.

I mine Bitcoins and use them to buy Lindens. I use an old Acer laptop that uses very little power, running Mint. This is not a real good way to make money. I do it mostly for fun.
Bitcoin is now trading at $320. Has anyone else taken a second look? I really believe these are about to go ballistic because now the entire world is starting to catch on. Right now, China is buying up about twice as many as the US. As more countries adopt the bitcoin as a true value currency you are going to see exponential growth. Curious to hear other people opinions.
