[Q] Root - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I think I messed up my phone pretty bad. Firstly, I tried putting in CWM kernel, my device was at 2.2.? that time and it was a 2.3 kernel. Device wouldnt boot, tried installing some 2.2 kernels but that simply didn't work (with Heimdall).
I tried installing I9000XWJVH_ODKJV3_XXJVO with Odin. It managed to get to the Galaxy S video but not any futher. And this is where it starts to get strange; I ticked "Phone Bootloader update" and "Phone ESF clear" and right now it has a black screen... but all the sound is working, and I still can get into download mode.
Ive tried most things, but without succes. Does any of you have an idea?
edit: so after 10 minutes of pretending to be dead, it resurrected. I tried rebooting (the fw was 2.3.3 and kernal was something rooted) to install CWM but now it wont respond anymore?

If you can access Download mode with 3-buttons combo you can odin-flash a stock rom (JVT for example), reboot and flash a custom kernel to have root and CWM recovery.

Problem is that I cant acces the CWM. Well, atleast I can't see it. I tried flashing CWM on it, Heimdall said it went OK. When I boot, I get a black screen, hear the boot music and see the touchbuttons lit up. The only thing that wont respond is the screen, I can only to get it to work when I check my pit using Heimdall fronted and let that program reboot my device.
OK, the result:

Does anyone have a clue?

Still noone has a clue?

Do like above poster said and try to access download mode, done by either volume down, home, power, all together or by using a jig if that doesnt work. Even if you screen is not displaying anything hook it up to odin and see if odin detects it. Youll know if it does because a com port will turn yellow. If it does flash back to stock and repartition with 512pit.

Doesn't switch on after flashing HELP NEEDED

Hi,
my girlfriend just came back from China with a P1000 from her friend. As the whole device was running on chinese language and for some strange reason it was not possible to enter System Setting to change the language, I decided to flash her the latest firmware and just make a fresh start. (i'm a flash veteran on my SGS since 2 years, so I know how to use Odin)
I downloaded the P1000XWJQ8 from Sammobile, fired up Odin and flashed the new ROM with repartition enabled.
The procedure went through without errors:

At the end of it the device didn't auto-boot as expected, it just stayed there with a black screen!!!!!!
Disconnecting and reconnecting it triggers in Odin the REMOVED and the ADDED lines but nothing happens.
I cannot switch on, cannot go into download nor recovery, the device just seems to stay dead :-(
My next idea was trying to pull the battery but apparently the battery is glued to the casing, so before I do more damage, I better start asking here.
Hope someone can help, my girlfriend will kill me if I can't repair this damn thing...
EDIT: after having closed Odin on the PC I tried to connect the device again and it started to play the startup song and Win7 started to install the new drivers from the new firmware. 7 out of 9 found drivers installed correctly, 2 instead failed.
But nothing changed to the vegetarian state of the P1000
EDIT 2: now, after 12 hours wait, the device doesn't do anything anymore when I connect it to the PC, no USB connect, no sign of adding it in Odin. It seems like the charging mechanism doesn't work anymore either. The deivce appears totally dead.
Did you see my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769144? This problem is totally the same as mine.
Is yours rooted? Coz it says here http://www.teamovercome.net/p1000/?page_id=17 that :

Note Hung On Samsung Logo Screen - Stock ROM

I have a Galaxy Note which has never been rooted and has the factory Gingerbread ROM running.
This morning it worked fine, then a couple of hours later the screen was black and I couldn't turn it on. So I removed and replaced the battery and turned the phone on. Ever since then, and no matter how many times I turn it off/on, it just freezes on the Samsung logo screen with the logo fading in/out.
What's the solution and what has gone wrong with it?

I would suggest booting into recovery and doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work use Odin to reflash the stock firmware, and see if that fixes things.

My phone is still in warranty. Am I right in thinking that using ODIN will void the warranty?
How do you boot into recovery on a factory ROM?
instal a stok rom with odin

Get a stock rom from dr. Ketan's thread in the original development. Press volume down+power+home buttons to boot into download mode then you can flash the rom you got using pc odin. It won't affect the warranty as it will not raise the counter and because you are flashing a stock rom

What could have caused this crash? My only concern is that it could be a hardware memory fault, hence it would be worth sending it out to Samsung just in case.
Just flashed a stock UK ROM via PC Odin.

Now that you have flashed the stock image, boot into recovery and try a factory reset again.
A factory reset fixed it! Why did I have to do a factory reset AFTER installing the new ROM? Why didn't the new ROM installation work on its own? Looking for a technical answer here .
May be the battery went dead because of which the some data got corrupted.
If I am not wrong it was stuck at the Samsung glowing logo?
data corruption causes boot loops and a factory reset will solve it
the rom you installed was a non wipe rom which does not do a wipe and just upgrades the os to stock so the corrupted data still remained. thus required a reset
Thank you for the explanation .

i can only get it in download mode.when i try to start recovery mode the phone stops at samsung logo and just hangs there all day
Go to the download mode, flash a stock ROM for your region using PC ODIN and go thru dr.ketan's thread in the original Android development forum. Flash a stock ROM and then flash a kernel like the PhilZ kernel that you'll find in the thread on how to root and this boot loop bug will be out forever.
thanks for your effort Varad, but still not luck.I guess I got a pretty expensive paper weight :crying:

friend told me to try a full wipe rom.is it a good idea?if it is,i just wanna know if it is flashable via odin.
Look haven't you wiped data before flashing ROMs? And yes any full wipe ROM with a .tar file is flashable via odin. But a full wipe ROM is of no use if you wipe data and cache before a flash, it's the same.

I had this problem.. You must have v3.10.6 and flash every file in the corresponding place, after that I still got a fail message but I tried un-checking the auto reboot option and that did the trick (this will make the phone stay in download mode even after you complete the flash, to quit download mode you must press the volume down button and the power button at the same time for about 10 seconds) hope that helps, let me know.

What do you mean with that? witch 4 files?
Hope you can help me.
After a factory swipe and installing vodafone wallet on my S6 it says that it doesn't work on a rooted Phone
You have to put each file in the corresponding place, when you download the stock rom after you've extracted the zip you're supposed to have a file called AP, BL, CSC, AND the other which I cannot remember, those are the files you're supposed to flash, if you try to flash just AP like on the screenshot it's not going to work.

I think you downloaded the wrong firmware for your phone, your phone is G920F and the firmware you are trying to flash is G925F.
@Neostatic17, it looks like you downloaded the wrong file. The file should be a tar.zip, not tar.md5. Once you download the correct tar.zip, extract the file and you will see 4 files within the one file you downloaded. Then flash all 4 files with odin.
Edit...Ok, I've checked my pc and the file is a tar.zip before you extract it and once it's extracted, there are 4 tar.md5 files. All you have to do is put the AP file in the AP slot, BL file in the BL slot and so on. I leave auto reboot checked, but that is up to you.

odin fail! when flashing stock rom. n920i

im running infinity note 7 port p8, and now i want to flash stock rom but im getting this: im flashing this N920IDVU3CQD3_N920IOLC3CQD3_N920IDVU3CQD2_HOME.tar

it was stuck then i reboot it, got an error saying:
an error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software. i used that function but nothing happened, now it just stuck at this place.
Just turn it off and retry.
tried that already many times.

you are not trying hard enough. hurry up before the battery drains out or you are gonna have a really bad time
press power, vol - and home for 9 seconds. Nine. At the 10th second the phone WILL reboot, now you must enter recovery (power, vol + and home) to keep it off and after that you may try to get into download mode.
once the phone reboot, it would bring me back to the error page and wont let me get in to download mode.
Flash with repartition ticked and add pit file for firmware you are trying to flash
Where does the pit file go?
you have pit tab in odin, next to log and options
where can i find nougat pit file? only seen 5.1.1
is same pit for all android versions, make sure is for your csc
thank you guys for helping me out and replying back fast. i fixed the problem.
